<ul><li>On February 28, 2020 India will celebrate the National <keyword id="563729" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="science-day">Science Day</keyword>, an annual feature observed since 1987. </li><li>National Science Day came about to etch the memories of a significant discovery by Sir C V Raman, a physicist and a great thinker. </li><li>It was on February 28 in the year 1928 that C V Raman discovered what is labelled as the Raman Effect referring to the scattering of light particles under a particular environment. </li></ul>India will celebrate the National Science Day on February 28, 2020. The theme decided for this year is "Women in Science." Commemorating the National Science Day, the country will see a number of programs organized at schools and colleges, and other higher education, research and technical institutions based on the theme earmarked for the year. National Science Day is an annual feature celebrated year on year right from 1987. Going to the roots National Science Day Commemorates the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman, a renowned physicist and a thinker hailing from Tamil Nadu, India. On February 28, 1928, Raman discovered what was later labelled as Raman Effect, a wonderful light scattering phenomenon which created strides in the physics of Light. This notable discovery won him the Nobel Prize in 1930, a couple of years later. In 1986, the NCSTC recommended to the Government of India that February 28 could be designated as National Science Day. The First National Science Day (NSD) was celebrated on February 28, 1987. On this day, NCSTC announced institution of the National Science Popularization awards for recognizing outstanding efforts in the area of science communication and popularization. About Sir C V Raman Raman was born on November 7, 1988. Hailing from Thiruvanaikovil, Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, the great scientist and thinker carried out an outstanding research in the realms of light physics. After serving for several years with the government in the department of Accounts, he founded several organizations like Indian Science Academy, Current Science Association and Raman Research Institute and journals like Journal of Physics, Current Science, and others. In 1954, he was honored by the Government of India during his life time itself with the highest civilian award of the country Bharat Ratna. What is Raman Effect? A path breaking discovery in spectroscopy, Raman Effect refers to the change of wavelength of light when a light ray is deflected by molecules. C V Raman found that a fraction of the incident light is scattered when a light beam traverses through a dust-free, transparent sample of a chemical compound. While much of this scattered light has the same wavelength, a small part is found to have a different wavelength than the incident light. This feature is known as the Raman Effect, named in honor of the renowned scientist C V Raman, the brain behind this momentous discovery. Theme of National Science Day The National Science Day is celebrated with a wide range of events and programs like special programs on TV and Radio, science exhibitions, science movies, debates, quizzes, public speeches, live projects, and several other activities. Year on year, the theme of the National Science Day would be announced much in advance so that the programs can be tuned to the given concept. The theme of the NSD in 2020 is "Women in Science."

While his mother was a Congress MLA in Andhra Pradesh, his father was a minister in the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh. Worked as a sales girl in London Before joining the Price Waterhouse in London, she worked as a sales girl for a brief period with Habitat, a Home Décor Store at London’s Regent Street. She recorded the highest sales in Christmas which won her the appreciation of the store management. She decided to come back to India along with her husband only for the birth of their daughter as the couple was keen to raise their daughter only in India. When their family settled in Hyderabad, she established a school for underprivileged children in the city clubbed with a policy research centre. Served as a member of National Commission for Women An active representative of the woman community, she has been taking a lot of interest in the subject of women empowerment. She served as the member of the National Commission for Women from 2003 to 2005. If we compare the two analysis, cities that have improved include Visakhapatnam, Surat, Rajkot and Gangtok. 
 
Meanwhile, the 10 dirtiest cities include Ghaziabad and Meerut. 
 
In Delhi, South and North Delhi Municipal Corporation improved rankings and were at 47 to 43, respectively.

As per the government data, there has been a staggering 137.7 per cent growth in tourists arrival on e-tourist visa in June 2016 over the same period in 2015. 
 
A total of 36,982 tourists arrived in June 2016 on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 15,557 during the month of June 2015. 
 
The facility was launched in 2014. 
 
This year till June 2016, a total of 4,71,909 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 1,26,214 during January-June 2015, registering a growth of 273.9% .

Weeks after the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> government named the cities which are to be transformed into <keyword id="6377036" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="smart-cities">smart cities</keyword>, we came across the list of firms that have been assigned the job. 
 Consulting firms like <keyword id="6359483" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Crisil">CRISIL</keyword>, <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword>, <keyword id="6372399" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="McKinsey">McKinsey</keyword> and Mott MacDonald are among those 37 companies which will prepare the roadmap for the 88 out of a total 98 cities’ list that the Modi government plans to develop as smart cities. An Economic Times report revealed that the consulting firms’ names for the remaining 10 cities will come-up by the end of this week. 
 
States like Uttar Pradesh and Jammu &amp; Kashmir are yet to nominate a city under this very ambitious plan, wherein the government plans to develop basic infrastructure and enhance urban living. 
 
KPMG will develop an action plan for New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area while McKinsey will do it for Pune. 
 For the <keyword id="513113" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="smart-city">Smart City</keyword> Mission, a two-day "Ideas Camp" has been organised to enable effective participation of all the 98 cities in the second stage of <keyword id="3088459" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="City-Challenge">City Challenge</keyword> competition. However, only 20 cities will be selected out of the total number in the first lot. 
 
CRISIL Risk and Infrastructure Solutions Limited in association with Pri Move Infrastructure Development Consultants Private Ltd and Probity Soft Private Limited have bagged the contract for six cities – Nagpur, Kalian-Dombivali, Nasik, Thane, Solapur and Amaravati. 
 
While Jones Lang La Salle Property Consultants India Pvt Ltd in association with Townland Consultants Pvt Ltd and Tata Consulting Engineers will work in the cities including Vadodara, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Chennai and Tiruchirapalli, the business daily revealed. 
 
ICRA Management Consulting Private Limited in association with NJS Engineers India Private Limited and All-India Institute of Local Self-Government has managed to get for five cities including Rajkot, Kochi, Ajmer, Erode and Coimbattore, as per ET. 
 
According the plan, the Ministry of Urban Development will provide Rs 100 crore to each of the cities over the next five years. On the other hand, the central government has decided to provide Rs 48,000 crore for the mission. The government will also provide the funds to urban local bodies at frequent intervals in the next five years. 
 
The central government has also asked the state governments to generate the equal amount as the cost of the Smart City Mission is estimated to be around Rs 96,000 crore. 
 
Kanpur, Ghaziabad and Thanjavur will seek help of Dorsh Holding GmbH in association with Dorsh Consult India Pvt Ltd and L R Kadaliya and Associates to prepare plans. While Greater Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Durgapur (Bengal) will take help from Alia Consulting Solutions Pvt Ltd and Genesis Fin. 
 
The Economic Times also added that Lucknow and Namchi (Sikkim) are working with Dataworld Pty Ltd in association with Innovest Advisory Services Pvt Ltd and Caritas Eco Systems Pvt Ltd for finalising plans. 
 
On the other hand, Hyderabad and Aurangabad are with Knight Frank (India) Pvt ltd with Fortress Infrastructure services and PSP Financial Consultants Pvt Ltd. 
 
Moving on to Navi Mumbai, we see that the city has to preapare plan with Tandon Urban Solutions Pvt Ltd with Spatial Decisions and Maha Infortech Pvt Ltd while Bhopal will do it with Price Waterhouse Coopers with Rudrabhishek Enterprise and CPG Consultants Pvt Ltd. Visakhapatnam and Ludhiana are to take assistance from AECOM India Pvt Ltd with AECOM Asia Company Ltd and Varanasi and Jhansi from N K Buildcon Pvt Ltd. 
 
All city-wise Smart City Plans will be evaluated in the second stage of the 'City Challenge' competition for identifying the top ranking 20 cities for financing during the current financial year.
