According to the Aam Aadmi Party, the meeting will be held at the Chief Minister's residence today. Following this, <keyword id="19901384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal" source="keywords">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> will meet the <keyword id="20976840" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lieutenant-Governor-VK-Saxena" source="keywords">Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena</keyword> at 4:30 p.m. today and the newly chosen leader of the legislative party will simultaneously stake a claim for the post of Chief Minister. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj remained tight-lipped about who will succeed Arvind <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword> as Chief Minister, stating only that the successor could be either a current minister or an MLA. "It does not matter who sits on the CM chair because the mandate was for Arvind Kejriwal. The public chose Arvind Kejriwal. He has said that he will not sit on the CM chair until the people ask again but the chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal for these and the next 5 years... One of us will sit on the chair until the elections take place. It will be similar to the way Bharat ruled in the absence of Lord Ram," Bharadwaj said. On being asked who will replace Arvind Kejriwal, Bharadwaj said, "It can be an MLA or any present minister. There will be a discussion with the MLAs today and the name may be decided". Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he would resign and would not resume the CM's post until the people of Delhi declared him "honest." He has also called for advancing polls in the national capital to November this year, ahead of the scheduled February elections. Kejriwal stated that if re-elected by the public, it would serve as a "certificate" of his honesty. He added that he would push for early elections, alongside those in Maharashtra. The announcement by the 54-year-old leader came two days after he was released from the <keyword id="20147871" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tihar-jail" source="keywords">Tihar jail</keyword> after being granted bail by the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Supreme Court" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Supreme Court">Supreme Court</keyword> in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. The apex court also imposed certain conditions on Kejriwal's release, including that he must refrain from making public comments about the case and must attend all hearings before the trial court unless exempted.

A court on Tuesday granted two-hour custody parole to <keyword id="22243221" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kashmiri-leader" source="keywords">Kashmiri leader</keyword> <keyword id="834128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sheikh-Abdul-Rashid" source="Orion">Sheikh Abdul Rashid</keyword> to take oath as a Lok Sabha <keyword id="19904133" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MP" source="keywords">MP</keyword> on July 5. Rashid, also known as <keyword id="21038061" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Engineer-Rashid" source="keywords">Engineer Rashid</keyword>, was elected from Baramulla seat as an independent candidate defeating National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in the recent Lok Sabha polls. He was <keyword id="19900069" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arrested" source="keywords">arrested</keyword> in a 2017 Jammu and Kashmir <keyword id="20041532" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="terror-funding-case" source="keywords">terror funding case</keyword>. Rashid had moved the court seeking interim bail, or custody parole in the alternative, to take oath and perform his parliamentary functions. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh allowed custody parole for two hours on July 5 to enable him to take oath. A detailed order is awaited. On Monday, the <keyword id="19907350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIA" source="keywords">NIA</keyword>'s counsel did not oppose Rashid's plea and said his oath taking should be subject to some conditions like not speaking to the media and completing all formalities within a day. Rashid has been in jail since 2019 after he was charged by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged involvement in a terror funding case. He is currently lodged in <keyword id="20147871" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tihar-Jail" source="keywords">Tihar jail</keyword>. The former MLA's name cropped up during the investigation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who the NIA had arrested for allegedly funding terrorist groups and separatists in the Kashmir valley. The NIA had filed a charge sheet against several individuals, including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin in the case. Malik was awarded life imprisonment by a trial court in 2022 after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Delhi Chief Minister <keyword id="19901384" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal" source="keywords">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> will return to <keyword id="56350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tihar-jail" source="Orion">Tihar jail</keyword> on Sunday as his interim bail in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam ends on Saturday (June 1). Kejriwal was given interim bail by the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="keywords">Supreme Court</keyword> to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections on May 10 and was asked to surrender to Tihar jail on June 2. The Delhi CM had earlier moved the Supreme Court for an extension of interim bail. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected his plea, stating that since he was given liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea here is not maintainable. Meanwhile, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday reserved the order on the interim bail plea moved by Kejriwal, citing medical reasons in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. The court fixed June 5 for the pronouncement of the order on the plea seeking 7-day bail, while refused to pass the order today itself as requested by Kejriwal's Lawyer. Senior Advocate N Hariharan, who appeared for Kejriwal, submitted that the interim bail was to campaign for his party (the Am Aadmi Party), which is a national party. "I am out for 20 days and had I not done it, you would've said see he didn't campaign and fell ill. It was a lot of stress due to the campaigning and you know that stress is a aggrevator of diabetes. What was alarming was that keto levels rose in the urine. The aspect of concern is the high level of sugar and the keto numbers," Kejriwal's advocate submitted in the plea. Appearing for the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju submitted that Arvind Kejriwal suppressed facts including about his health conditions. During preliminary arguments, ED lawyers stated that they have objections to filing interim bail as well. This court cannot modify the Supreme Court order. He's on interim bail because the SC granted it, what he is asking here is an extension of the Supreme Court order," the ED lawyers submitted. "This interim bail plea is required to be dismissed as it is full of suppression of facts. The Supreme Court had granted Liberty to him that he can file regular bail but the liberty to seek an extension of interim bail was not granted to him. He has said that these tests require 7 days, but the nature of the test has been suppressed," they further stated. ED also raised maintainability issues on interim bail plea and submitted that instead of getting a medical test done, he was travelling across. Medical tests would take more than one hour. ED further submitted that the applicant in fact has gained 1 kg weight and falsely claimed that he has lost 7 kg weight. The Registrar of the Supreme Court has passed a speaking order and the same has been suppressed by them. There is a reason for suppression and it is because he had been travelling for campaigning purposes, but he didn't get the tests done then, ED said. Recently Kejriwal through his legal team filed two different bail applications before the concerned court. His regular bail plea is listed for a hearing on June 7, 2024. Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal posted an emotional message on Friday and said that he is proud that he is going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. In his video message, Kejriwal said, "Tomorrow the 21 days are getting over, the day after tomorrow I have to surrender. I don't know how long they will keep me in jail this time. But my spirits are high. I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. I am proud of this. They tried to break me many times, tried to make me bow down but I didn't." Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled <keyword id="20106989" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Excise-Policy" source="keywords">Delhi excise policy</keyword> 2021-22.

The Special Judge, Rouse Avenue Court Complex has dismissed the interim bail application of <keyword id="174" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="thapar" source="Orion">Thapar</keyword>, which was filed on medical grounds, citing his deteriorating health. During the course of proceedings, the judge requisitioned the medical status report of Thapar from the Chief Medical Officer, <keyword id="56350" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tihar-jail" source="Orion">Tihar Jail</keyword>, where he is currently lodged in. The medical officer-in-charge of the Central Jail opined that Thapar continues to have persistent left-sided chest pain, palpitations, vertigo, blackouts, severe lumbar pain, and his previous records show severe co-morbidities. The report further stated that any delay in investigation and intervention may lead to irreversible damage. Counsel for Directorate of Enforcement, N.K. Matta, strongly objected to bail, stating that the jail authorities are well equipped to provide necessary treatment. Thapar was represented by counsel Sandeep Kapur, Senior Partner, Karanjawala &amp; Co., and his team comprising Vir Sandhu, Rajat Soni, <keyword id="13977064" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vivek-suri" source="Orion">Vivek Suri</keyword>, Mridul Yadav, Abhimanshu Dhyani, and <keyword id="13977065" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sahil-modi" source="Orion">Sahil Modi</keyword>.
