Speaking at Tuesday's Invest for Kids conference in Chicago, he said that AI, unlike other big technological advances, will be felt across sectors so all companies have an interest in putting money toward it.Large public corporations have the most resources to implement AI across their businesses, according to a recap of his comments viewed by Business Insider. In other words, scale is more of an advantage in the AI field than nimbleness.He said companies putting capital and talent behind AI projects are doing so without expecting a short-term return on their investment. The infrastructure required by these projects, he said, means companies are looking at the ROI a decade from now, not a quarter.Sundheim was speaking on a panel with Mala Gaonkar, the former Lone Pine executive who launched SurgoCap Partners at the start of 2023. From her vantage point, AI will impact industries on different timelines, so over the next three to five years, it's crucial to know which areas will feel immediate benefits and which sectors will take time.Gaonkar said medtech— such as diagnostic imaging — should benefit from AI advances earlier than other sectors.Sundheim also said that because of AI infrastructure needs, there will be investment opportunities in companies that supply the equipment to upgrade the electrical grid.Both firms have had strong years investing in public markets.Gaonkar's fund is up more than 25% this year, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lone-pine-spinouts-struggle-except-mala-gaonkar-surgocap-tiger-cubs-2024-10">BI previously reported</a>, as assets have swelled to more than $3 billion. Sundheim's D1, which according to regulatory filings manages roughly $26 billion, is up more than 34% in its public book though its venture investments have been marked down 2.6% so far in 2024, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.institutionalinvestor.com/article/2dw7rnwdclm7wl4q9tr7k/hedge-funds/d1-capitals-dan-sundheim-makes-changes-after-two-consecutive-knockdowns">a recent report from Institutional Investor</a>.The two funds are a part of Julian Roberston's Tiger Management's broader <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/billionaire-julian-robertsons-tiger-network-spans-hundreds-of-funds-2019-11">Tiger Cub network</a>, which is known for its focus on growth stocks, particularly in the tech sector. Sundheim, who was the CIO at Viking Global before launching D1 in 2018, joined funds like Tiger Global and Coatue in 2020 and 2021 in their aggressive funding of private companies. PitchBook notes that the firm has made 228 investments in private companies since six years ago.While the private portfolio has been a drag on Sundheim's overall returns the last three years — and he's now looking to public giants for AI exposure — he still said Tuesday that the most exciting company in the world is a private one: Elon Musk's SpaceX.D1 has a stake worth roughly $2.5 billion in the company, according to the II report.The two firms declined to comment.

It's the latest spinoff from long-running Tiger Cub Lone Pine Capital to shutter. Coulter, who started Cowbird in 2017 and managed roughly $200 million as of March, according to regulatory filings, did not return several requests for comment.Lone Pine, the $16 billion firm led by co-chief investment officers Kelly Granat and David Craver, was founded in 1997 by billionaire Steve Mandel. Mandel had previously worked for Julian Robertson's Tiger Management and was hailed by his late billionaire backer as "probably the greatest analyst of all time."But while Robertson's Tiger is now known as much for its talent development prowess as its investing acumen, Lone Pine's own alumni network has struggled in recent years. The firm has spawned at least 12 hedge funds, but about half of those have shuttered or are no longer running hedge fund strategies.The Tiger Cubs, dubbed so because they're descendants of Roberston's Tiger Management, have lost luster in recent years. It launched with capital from the massive Texas Teachers Retirement System, among others.While Gaonkar has appeared more on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.imago-images.com/st/0417365427">red carpets</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://omny.fm/shows/river-cafe-table-4/mala-gaonkar">cooking podcasts</a> than on CNBC — her partner is Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, whom she had worked with on various artistic ventures over the years — a person close to the firm told Business Insider that SurgoCap is up more than 25% this year. The firm now manages more than $3 billion, a big jump from the $1.8 billion she started with in 2023.SurgoCap — the largest-ever launch of a woman-run fund — has a few of the big-name tech stocks in its portfolio, including Nvidia, but its biggest holdings are stocks such as healthcare conglomerate McKesson and energy giant GE Vernova. The firm was also a part of the summer fundraising round by Figma after its deal with Abobe fell through at the end of 2023.<h2 id="9c9d8479-a4c4-491e-9072-0c010a34dc17">Inside the Lone Pine family tree</h2>Gaonkar's experience is far from the norm for Lone Pine alums though.Of the seven Lone Pine spinoffs <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/billionaire-julian-robertsons-tiger-network-spans-hundreds-of-funds-2019-11">Business Insider identified in 2019</a>, two — David Stemerman's Conatus Capital and Scott Phillips' Latimer Light Capital — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/article/markets/wealth/hedge-fund-latimer-light-says-it-is-shutting-down-idUSKCN1OK2AN/">had already closed</a>. Since then, another two from that original list of seven — Matt Iorio's White Elm Capital and Coulter's aforementioned firm — have shuttered while Eashwar Krishnan's Tybourne Capital <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-12-15/tybourne-to-shut-2-8-billion-hedge-fund-on-short-selling-pains">wound down its $2.8 billion hedge fund</a> at the end of 2021 to focus on long-only and private investing.Of those seven funds, only Li Ran's London-based Half Sky Capital and Brian Eizenstat's Dilation Capital are still running hedge fund strategies. Stemerman is now running a new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/centerbook-partners-hedge-fund-using-other-firms-to-invest-2024-1">multi-strategy offering called CenterBook Partners</a>, where he is not trading but mining external managers' books to create his portfolio.Other Lone Pine employees have started funds in recent years to mixed results. Paul Eisenstein's Vetamer Capital — a fintech-focused manager that invested in public and private companies — wound down at the beginning of this year after launching in 2020. Nikhil Trikha, who launched California-based Ampersand Capital Group in 2022, has less than $150 million in assets, according to regulatory filings.Meanwhile, former Lone Pine managing director Arthur Wit is launching Perryridge Capital, a new fund focused on healthcare and industrials stocks, later this year and declined to comment for this story.<h2 id="5e979d07-02cc-4225-835b-ed5c4da4f8d5">Is Viking Global now the gold standard?</h2>It's not uncommon for startup hedge funds to struggle to get off the ground and eventually stall out completely. Even though last year was the lowest level of fund liquidations in nearly two decades, according to Hedge Fund Research, there were still more than 400 closures.The pedigree of the greater Tiger Cub universe and the ambition of those who work at these firms means there'll still be a solid supply of new launches from funds like Lone Pine going forward. But the hallmark of Robertson's tenure atop Tiger Management was not just that his proteges would start new funds — it was that these new launches endured.Firms like Lone Pine, Tiger Global, Coatue, Viking Global, Maverick, Light Street, and others have lasted for decades and minted billionaires along the way.The firm that's come closest to filling Tiger Management's shoes appears to be Andreas Halvorsen's $48 billion Viking Global, which has become, to many, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-viking-global-thinks-about-analyst-talent-hiring-2024-8">gold standard of talent development</a> in the Tiger Cub world. The firm <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/viking-global-hedge-fund-launches-grant-wonders-voyager-d1-sundheim-2021-10">has been the launching pad for funds</a> such as Dan Sundheim's D1 Capital and Ben Jacobs' Anomaly. Ning Jin, the firm's longtime CIO, left at the end of August to start his own manager.Indeed, one of the biggest Lone Pine spinouts has a Viking connection: Marco Tablada, who was once on Lone Pine's management committee and worked for Robertson at Tiger Management before that, cofounded Alua Capital with former Viking CIO Tom Purcell in 2020.According to regulatory filings from earlier this year, the firm now manages close to $2.7 billion.

"We're able to respond faster, we're able to catch up to the bad guys faster with interesting transformational technology. We're able to move so much faster and do more with limited resources."Business Insider spoke with several cybersecurity professionals who attended the annual <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-ceo-rohit-ghai-navigating-5g-cybersecurity-2024-5">RSA conference</a> this week in San Francisco about how generative AI is increasingly used in cybersecurity for 5G devices and networks. They said that while 5G networks have higher security standards, attacks could still come from identity breaches of accounts or devices connected to those networks."If you can stay ahead of the risks you perceive when you implement 5G solutions, you're going to be in good shape," said Shaun McAlmont, the president and CEO of the cybersecurity-awareness-training company Ninjio.<h2 id="e5693285-b863-431e-b794-a5dcd40a41c0">Accelerating cybersecurity</h2>Generative AI can speed up more routine security processes and free up resources, helping cybersecurity professionals increase productivity and make decisions faster. Things like the design and architecture of a 5G application, generating code samples, conducting tests, and speeding up authentication can be automated. It can also prevent attacks by helping to configure and manage networks."There's a distinct benefit for organizations where we may leverage AI for improving network quality, improving security, and network healing," Chris Novak, the senior director of cybersecurity consulting at Verizon Business, said. "There are opportunities for AI to help us analyze network traffic flows in real time, recognize where there is an issue, and ensure little to no impact to network users."AI can also help 5G users monitor their security and ensure that the services they connect to have the appropriate certifications and authorizations for transferring data.Large language models can help mitigate security threats by identifying suspicious patterns in traffic and unusual attempts to enter the network. Because AI can process an enormous amount of data about malicious threats, it can help isolate them before they spread further. Additionally, it can triage malware and other threats, making sense of complex attack-path data and automating threat responses.Edge-protection tools powered by AI can be a "first layer of defense" that can deal with mass data, David Aviv, the chief technology officer at Radware, said."Competitors that didn't adopt those machine-learning technologies have gotten left behind," said Steve Wilson, the chief product officer at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/exabeam-ceo-handled-covid19-four-sick-employees-2020-4">Exabeam</a>, a network security company.<h2 id="5b84898c-98d6-47be-91d0-f45686ed332b">5G to strengthen AI</h2>5G can also boost the capabilities of AI applications themselves. With 5G, AI can do more computation and sensor analysis on the edge, meaning the computation is closer to the data source."The combination of AI and 5G will make it inevitable that we will be using machines for tasks that are currently performed by humans," said Ev Kontsevoy, the cofounder and CEO of Teleport, an identity access and management software company.It's becoming increasingly important for companies to apply AI to their cybersecurity practices because humans won't be able to keep up, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-president-cybersecurity-break-with-dell-2020-8">Rohit Ghai,</a> the CEO of RSA, said."Any 5G network is very very dynamic," Ghai said. "It's changing all the time. Human approaches to securing that are not able to keep up with the dynamic nature of the network."Now that mobile and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/iot-infrastructure-technology">Internet of Things</a> devices have become more ubiquitous, they're using even more data, which generative AI can help filter and secure."We're going to be required to collect an order of magnitude more data from more devices and provide really quick analysis on that," Wilson said.

In an interview with Business Insider, EY said it will also recruit 6,000 employees for its Global Delivery Services (GDS) tax team across various countries including India. GDS is a global delivery network which is a part of EY. It collaborates with the company’s team for various projects across countries like Argentina, China, India, the Philippines, the UK, Poland, Hungary and the United States — with teams from all EY service lines. “I think globally, the tax department will be recruiting 25,000 professionals and GDS will have 6000 tax recruitments across multiple countries and that too in different areas,” <keyword id="13892533" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashutosh-Rathor" source="Orion">Ashutosh Rathor</keyword>, global tax GDS leader and global tax industry leader told Business Insider India in an exclusive interview. That's when I knew I wanted to compete at the highest level.With a clear goal, I set my sights on improving my skills within the game, eventually receiving a scholarship to play for Robert Morris University. Being a professional esports competitor wasn't the most well-known or traditional career path at the time. My friends didn't really seem to care that much until the streaming platform, Twitch, grew in popularity, and with it, interest in competitive esports.Being on a collegiate roster, I always had to perform at my best, even with a grueling schedule. I would've lost valuable scholarship money if I had been demoted from the starting roster.Thankfully, that didn't happen, and I graduated in 2019 with a degree in computer network and security and a master's degree in information systems.<h2>Taking the next step</h2>After graduating, I started working as a software developer at a virtual reality gaming company. I played some on the side, but I was quickly losing interest in Counter-Strike, the game I'd spent thousands of hours trying to perfect.Riot Games released Valorant in 2020 as the company's entry into the first-person tactical shooter games, which reignited my drive to compete.I had an incredible boss who understood that drive and supported me, allowing me to work on a non-traditional schedule as long as I accomplished all necessary tasks.The grind paid off, and in mid-2021, I was signed as a player to pro esports organization DarkZero's first Valorant roster, finally living out my dream on a professional team.<div type="image" title="Valorant" height="2160" width="3840" msid="109649286" hostid="261" sizebytes="404686"></div>But the esports world is fickle— you've got maybe two weeks of bad performances before your team axes you from the lineup or roster. That's no longer the case. Many teams and players are either unpaid or paid less than minimum wage, leading players to point fingers and try to figure out the culprit.And sure, while some of Valorant's highest-earning players make 6-to-7 figures each year between their contracts, endorsement deals, and lucrative streaming, that's simply not the norm. In the most-esteemed franchised league in Valorant, the floor of player salaries is $60,000.My time with DarkZero was before Riot Games introduced franchising to its leagues, meaning that floor wasn't even there. I only made around $48,000 with the team, but it was enough to live off of.I know it's controversial, but I feel like a lot of the players who are speaking out about low pay would rather complain than work a few hours a day Ubering, bartending, working for DoorDash, Starbucks, or any other part-time position.If you're going to justify investing 10 hours of your day playing the game, you need to find some other way of making it profitable, like streaming or individually coaching players.Many of these young esports athletes are coasting off their savings or burying themselves in debt trying to make it onto the stage at a Riot Games-organized event, just as I did after DarkZero.Taking a little bit of time off from the game each day to earn rent money probably wouldn't even affect their in-game performance. Even though I'm playing far fewer hours per day than before — I only spend around four hours after work each day playing other teams and strategizing for my weekly matches — I'm in my best-ever form.That wasn't always the case, though. Over the course of my esports career, I've gained the discipline to be able to acknowledge all of the factors that I can control and optimize them as best I can.When I was teamless last year, I had all of the time in the world to improve but didn't have an ounce of discipline. I've now realized discipline is the biggest factor when juggling getting better in-game while working an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. job and still trying to get in bed by 11 p.m. each night.After years of competing, this is the first time where I don't care what the results are. If my team wins, or we get relegated or stay in for the rest of the season, none of it actually really matters to me.I'm not afraid of getting dropped and I'm not afraid of having to restart. Sharing salary information is considered taboo in India, and 61 per cent of professionals are more comfortable sharing their pay details with family members rather than with co-workers or friends, a LinkedIn report said on Thursday. Just one in 10 professionals said they would discuss their salaries with coworkers they trust (13 per cent) and peers they trust in other companies (9 per cent). According to LinkedIn's <keyword id="9245189" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Workforce-Confidence-Index" source="Orion">Workforce Confidence Index</keyword>, India's overall workforce confidence has dwindled slightly. "This is due to a volatile perception towards jobs, finances, and career progress in these times of global uncertainty," said the report. Despite a dip in overall confidence, India's workforce remains optimistic about navigating these challenges as seven in 10 professionals say they are confident about reaching the next level in their field, their work experience and education and chances of their income increasing. "Professionals are still not comfortable to have conversations about pay in the workplace," said Nirajita Banerjee, India Managing Editor, LinkedIn News. Family and friends remain India's closest confidantes when it comes to sharing the size of their paychecks. However, "the current generation of young professionals are more willing to share pay information with their coworkers and industry peers as compared to other generations", Banerjee noted. In fact, Gen Z professionals are found most likely to share their pay across their whole network as compared to any other age group. Around 72 per cent of Gen Z and 64 per cent of millennials in India say they are comfortable sharing their pay information with family members, while 43 per cent of Gen Z and 30 per cent of millennials are also willing to confide in their close friends. "Gen Z are keen to influence change and eager to lead these conversations in the workplace, Banerjee added. About 45 per cent of professionals in India say pay discussions among peers are discouraged at their workplace. Further, 36 per cent of professionals in India also say they feel anxious sharing their pay information with anyone.
