The fourth edition of the CRIF High Mark report noted a slowdown from the 17.4% growth recorded in March 2023, largely due to a deceleration in the home <keyword id="6362287" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="loans" source="Orion">loans</keyword> segment, which accounts for 40.1% of the overall consumption loan portfolio by value. The home loans portfolio saw growth slowing down to 7.9 % YoY in FY24, from the 23 % expansion seen in FY23. This was mainly due to muted growth in "originations", which increased by 9.2 % in FY'24 compared to 18.2 % in the previous fiscal year. Origination refers to the process by which a lender creates or initiates a new loan or credit, including evaluating, processing, and approving a borrower's application. The report finds a shift toward higher <keyword id="6871589" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticket-size" source="Orion">ticket size</keyword>s, with a growing preference for loans above Rs 35 lakh, although the average ticket size (ATS) rose by 32% from Rs 20.1 lakh in FY20 to Rs 26.5 lakh in FY24. In contrast, the personal loans segment maintained strong momentum, growing by 26% YoY in FY24, despite recent regulatory reforms. Larger ticket loans of Rs 10 lakh and above increased their share in originations by value, while loans under Rs 1 lakh continued to dominate in volume. Banks led in value-based originations, whereas non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) remained dominant in volume. Two-wheeler loans experienced a 34% YoY growth in FY24, up from 30% in FY23, fueled by a shift to higher ticket-size loans. However, the overall volume of originations grew at a slower pace of 13% in FY24 compared to 32% in FY23. <keyword id="35527" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-loans" source="Orion">Auto loans</keyword>, on the other hand, grew by 20% YoY in FY24, compared to 22% in FY23. Consumer durable loans posted a robust growth of 34% YoY in FY24, up from 26% expansion in the previous fiscal. This growth was driven by a shift to larger ticket sizes, although origination volumes grew by only 8.5% in FY24, compared to 38.2% in FY23. The MSME lending segment displayed mixed results, with individual MSME loans growing faster than entity MSMEs. The individual MSME portfolio increased by 29% YoY in FY24, accelerating from 15% in FY23, while entity MSME loans grew by just 6.6 % YoY, a sharp slowdown from 17.2 % in the previous year. Microfinance lending also saw strong growth, with the portfolio rising by 27% YoY in FY24, compared to 21% in FY23. "The resilience of the Indian credit market is evident in the strong performance across various lending categories and the stability in delinquencies. Home loans remain dominant, but the growth in personal loans, two-wheeler loans, and the rebound of NBFCs highlight significant shifts in the lending landscape," CRIF High Mark MD Sanjeet Dawar said.

Business Insider contacted the company for further comment but didn't immediately hear back. <h2>Custom beverages drive high ticket prices</h2>CEO Laxman Narasimhan said that high sales of cold drinks — which are generally more profitable for the chain because customers add more costly modifications to them — and its gingerbread range helped drive the ticket prices during the most recent quarter. Customizations are a major driver of high ticket prices at Starbucks, which cost around $1 individually but can easily add up and double the price of a drink. The company, which has a current employee strength of 488, is looking to hire another 370 people in the coming months, Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, told Business Insider. Pitti said, “As there is a huge requirement to grow organically and inorganically, that is why we are looking forward to doubling our headcount by next year or so.” The hiring will be done across various domains like technology, marketing, support sectors to name a few. In a conversation with Business Insider, Pitti also expressed his interest in hiring interns as well across product and analyst segments. He said, “We are more than happy to hire interns on the product side, analyst side. If we can connect to some universities, we’re happy to take interns.” When asked about how many internships the travel company is planning to roll out, Pitti said, “ There is no specific number in our mind, but we’re really looking forward to welcoming interns or freshers in our team.” Talking about the growth plans of the company, Pitti also mentioned that EaseMyTrip will be acquiring a few more companies in the near future, but didn’t reveal the name of the companies. “There are many more acquisitions which are in the pipeline.. But we can’t reveal the names and other details,” Pitti told Business Insider. EaseMyTrip, in 2021, had acquired three companies — YoloBus, a premium intercity mobility platform, Spree Hospitality, a hospitality management company and Traviat, a business to business travel platform — for an undisclosed amount. “ We also plan on leveraging our vast agent network and utilising it for the holiday bookings which shall complement the company’s hotel and holiday businesses. We also aim to rapidly grow across our international markets where we have recently expanded our international presence to six countries where we added the Philippines, Thailand, and the USA as well,” he added. EaseMyTrip says it will double its workforce by March 2023

Currently, one-third of India's population reside in cities and it is estimated to go up to 50 per cent by 2030. There is a steady rise in the number of households with a shift towards nuclear families and increased urbanisation. The 66 per cent young population - below 35 years of age, are emerging as young millennial borrowers of home-loans. It is also true that home-loans market is driven by young borrowers within the age group of 26-35 years - about 25 per cent and also by people in the age group of 36-45 years - about 28 per cent. These are all active home-loan audience and jointly account for 53 per cent of annual originations. The average ticket size of a home-loan of young borrowers has continued to increase over the last 5 years, with a CAGR of 6.2 per cent. The ticket size continues to increase more for women than men. The cumulative active home-loan base of these borrowers has seen continuous growth over the last 3 years at a CAGR of 3.5 per cent. These young borrowers have been the reason for change in the home-loan market. Within the affordable segment, volume growth in home-loans of Rs 15-35 lakh, over the last 4-5 years, indicate shifting preferences of buyers towards higher ticket sizes. Rural Housing demand for mid-range and higher ticket sizes has continued to increase over the last 5 years too. Share of annual originations (volume) of Rs 35-75 lakh ticket size has increased by 4 per cent in the last 5 years. Share of annual originations of Rs 75 lakh plus ticket size has increased from 0.37 per cent to 0.87 per cent in the last 5 years. Share of annual originations of Rs 15 lakh ticket size has declined over the last 5 years, largely due to falling demand for very small ticket size segment of Rs 2 lakh. The dearth of disposable income has been a deterrent factor for salaried class towards taking home-loan and buying real-estate. Since the input cost in real-estate has increased the rates, the salaried class is left with no other option but to approach for home-loans from financial institutions. Interestingly, the tenure of repayment of home-loan is fluctuating between 11-30 years. There is also a deterrent factor for salaried class in home-loans and EMIs. The EMIs are no more supportive since the financial institutions first draw larger part of interest in the EMIs and principal component is kept less in more than first 50 per cent of the EMIs. As the EMIs near completion, the interest component becomes negligible and principal component is much higher. Even if the buyer has the provision of pre-payment of home-loan, he ends up paying the larger portion of principal amount rather than saving on the interest. Further, the financial institutions also levy heavy fees on pre-closure of loans. In case the buyer opts for higher tenure for loan repayment, it then makes it difficult for the buyer to invest in second property. One question that has been asked frequently is - "If the principal and interest amount are predefined, why the EMIs can't have equal amount throughout the tenure." Coming to tax benefit, repayment of principal amount in a home-loan qualifies for deduction under section 80C, which has an upper limit of Rs 1.50 lakh per annum. Since the same section - 80C, accounts a number of other investments including PF, PPF and life insurance policies etc, it becomes impossible for a buyer to take advantage of any benefit out of this section. Buyers are looking forward to increase in this limit in Union Budget-2022 since this limit has not been increased in last many years. On the tax benefit for interest payment, since under section 20(b) of the Income Tax Act, there is a cap of Rs 2 lakh per annum on the interest part of the home-loan, home-loans being larger in size, the buyers are unable to take much benefit of the same too. To extend tax benefit to the buyers the government has also added few sub-sections 80EE, 80EEA under the Income Tax Act but the volume of loan is not allowing buyers to gain desired additional benefits out of these sub-sections. What perhaps needed in the Union <keyword id="10547300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Budget-2022" source="Orion">Budget 2022</keyword> is to bring dynamic changes in the income-tax slabs and increase the rebates under section 80C, 80EE, 80EEA and 24(b) of the Income Tax Act. If two arenas have the same level of ticket demand, the one with more seats could, in theory, have lower ticket prices.With a maximum seating capacity of nearly <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sportskeeda.com/us/wnba/5-wnba-stadium-largest-seating-capacity">18,000</a> fans, the Fever's Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis — also home to the NBA's Indiana Pacers — is the fifth biggest arena in the WNBA among its 12 teams, per the sports content platform Sportskeeda. The average capacity of a WNBA arena is about 12,000.So it's possible the Fever's above-average arena size could be helping to keep home prices in check — and their opponents's smaller arenas could be propping up the prices of the team's road games.But Matheson said this doesn't tell the whole story. In part, that's because some WNBA teams with smaller seating capacities have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/sports/wnba-teams-bigger-arenas-host-caitlin-clark-fever/3426538/#:~:text=The%20Las%20Vegas%20Aces%20and,indicates%20it's%20a%20smart%20move.">ditched</a> their arenas when the Fever came to town so they could accommodate more fans."Fever opponents have been frequently moving home games against Clark into larger arenas," Matheson said. "For example, the Washington Mystics moved their June 7 game out of the Entertainment and Sports Arena into 20,000-plus seat Capital One Arena, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wusa9.com/article/sports/washington-mystics-play-against-indiana-fever-basketball-caitlin-clark-dc/65-0e869734-504a-4e0a-ae19-5200a386ae8c">sold it out</a> at sky-high prices."<h2 id="222ee2e5-89bc-4b04-9e11-f4700bd61185">Tickets cost less in smaller markets</h2>Things tend to cost more in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-cities-with-the-lowest-cost-of-living-2016-7">cities like New York</a> than they do in Indianapolis, including ticket prices.In the NBA, for example, Matheson said ticket prices for New York Knicks home games can be more than $100 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.axios.com/2023/11/02/nba-tickets-price-cost-expensive-basketball">more expensive</a> on average than Indiana Pacers home games.One of the reasons for this is that the Knicks and Pacers have the same number of home games, but New York City's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2024/subcounty-population-estimates.html">population</a> is nearly 10 times the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.axios.com/local/indianapolis/2024/06/03/indianapolis-population-census">size</a> of Indianapolis's. Much more demand for similar ticket supply — the Knicks's arena is a bit larger — is among the reasons Knicks tickets tend to cost more than Pacers tickets.It's possible that, to some degree, Fever home ticket prices have been kept in check by the Indianapolis market. Per data from CoinMarketCap, 24-hour trading volumes are down to about $20 billion a day from all-time highs near $70 billion at the beginning of the year.But "the market is robust" for Circle."The minimum ticket size has moved up to $500,000 with an average of $1 million," Allaire said.Some transactions, according to Allaire, are larger than $100 million. Previously, the minimum ticket size for a trade at Circle was $250,000."That water mark will continue to rise," Allaire said.OTC trading occurs off exchange venues, such as Coinbase's GDAX or Kraken, for instance. The point of such desks is to provide a platform for high-net-worth crypto-holders and institutions to make large trades without impacting the broader market.As a alternative to crypto-exchanges, they typically have deeper liquidity to support such transactions. One industry insider told Business Insider that deeper liquidity in OTC markets has played into the growth of a number of trading shops."If I have $5 million, I can't do that trade on GDAX," the person said.OTC desks can also provide a more secure alternative to crypto exchanges, which are known for hacks and outages.Circle, which counts investment bank Goldman Sachs as a a strategic backer, trades more than $2 billion in cyptocurency a month. Overall comparative sales grew by 4.5%. Neat earnings increased $4.8 billion, compared with $4.3 billion in 2020. But the company was always going to be up against stiff competition: Last year, comparative sales jumped a startling 25%. Home Depot had previously been posting stunning sales results, as bored consumers tackled <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/home-depot-and-lowes-benefit-bored-shoppers-hammer-away-home-2020-8">home improvement</a> projects during the pandemic.Overall, fewer customers visited Home Depots this quarter, with the company experiencing a 5.8% drop in transactions compared with last year. "We're very pleased with the strong performance we saw in the second quarter, particularly as we lapped the unprecedented growth we saw this time last year," Home Depot's Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail told analysts. "And while these challenging compares continue for the back half of the year, we are encouraged by what we are seeing."CEO Craig Menear also touted the company's growing pro business, which has outperformed Home Depot's do-it-yourself performance for two consecutive quarters now. It means that recent store openings and closures aren't taken into account.Starbucks' global comparable store sales dropped 4% and 3% in the two most recent quarters.Starbucks last posted a drop in global comparable store sales in late 2020, during the height of COVID.Starbucks has given numerous reasons for its poor performance. In various markets, some customers have <a target="_blank" rel="" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-sues-employee-union-over-logo-use-pro-palestinian-posts-2023-10">boycotted</a> the chain related to the conflict in the Middle East, which Narasimhan told investors last month was "driven by widely discussed misperceptions about our brand."<h2 id="6ed2c5c6-4052-4f76-baf4-a1ef237f10e0">US consumers are visiting less often</h2>Comparable store sales are made up of two measures — the number of transactions and the average ticket size.In the past two quarters, Starbucks' comparable transaction count — meaning the number of orders placed at comparable stores, also known as traffic — has declined in the US compared to the same periods the prior year. This means fewer customers are placing orders at Starbucks stores, or they're visiting less frequently.In some cases, like during the height of the pandemic in 2020, the huge drop in comparable transaction count was partly offset by a 25% jump in average ticket size, likely because more people were placing group delivery orders during waves of lockdown.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-customer-orders-bigger-than-ever-before-food-customize-beverages-2024-1">Average ticket size</a> increases because of several factors: People could be ordering more items per transaction, like purchasing for a group or adding food; they could be opting for pricier items, like beverages with costly modifications; or Starbucks could simply have put prices up.Starbucks' average US ticket size keeps rising, but in the last two quarters, it has not been enough to offset the drop in orders, as the graph below shows.The US is Starbucks's biggest market by far. The Seattle-based coffee chain has more than <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://s203.q4cdn.com/326826266/files/doc_financials/2024/q3/3Q24-Earnings-Release-Final-7-30-24.pdf">16,700 stores</a> in the US, or over 40% of its total store count.Jefferies restaurant analyst Andy Barish told Business Insider that there was a "pretty long list" of reasons for Starbucks' decline in comparable store sales, including a drop in occasional consumers who visit in the afternoon.Customers are getting fed up with rising prices, which Edward Jones analyst Brian Yarbrough told BI Starbucks needs to address: "As we all know, Starbucks isn't known for value."In a July survey by Deutsche Bank, nearly half of respondents who reported stopping going to Starbucks or cutting down their number of visits said this was because it had "become too expensive."<div type="image" title="Atlanta, Georgia, Starbucks Coffee, customer using mobile app to pay." height="2533" width="3800" msid="112568125" hostid="261" sizebytes="551706"></div>Barish pointed out that many Starbucks promotions are only available to app users. He said that only 14% of transactions were driven by offers — 10% for Starbucks Rewards star-based offers and 4% for price-based offers — compared to an average of 29% at competitors.Plus, its menu could be alienating some customers. Recent innovations, like lavender beverages, energy drinks, and popping pearls, likely didn't resonate with Starbucks' core customers, Barish said. Starbucks, however, said drinks with the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-popping-pearls-boba-drinks-summer-berry-skies-refresher-sales-2024-7">boba-inspired popping pearls</a> have sold well.<h2 id="b674f07c-2ced-4f8e-b868-0f951f642947">What's happening in China?</h2>China, the world's second-biggest country by population, is a huge market for Starbucks. The coffee giant has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://s203.q4cdn.com/326826266/files/doc_financials/2024/q3/3Q24-Earnings-Release-Final-7-30-24.pdf">more than 7,300 stores</a> there, nearly 20% of its global locations.Starbucks' comparable store sales in China have been incredibly volatile over the past five years.This has largely been caused by changes in the number of orders, but the average ticket size has also been steadily declining over the past two years. In the most recent quarter, both the comparable transaction count and average ticket size were down 7% year-over-year.Sales were massively affected by <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-protests-covid-lockdown-explainer-stakes-2022-11">China's strict zero-COVID policy</a>. But in recent months, they've been hit by cautious consumer spending and increased competition, Narasimhan told investors in July.Luckin Coffee, its biggest rival in China, has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://investor.lkcoffee.com/news-releases/news-release-details/luckin-coffee-opens-its-landmark-20000th-store-beijing">nearly three times</a> as many stores as Starbucks in China after monumental unit growth. The chain has continued to grow in China "in the hope that there's some market shakeout," but in the short term, "it's a pretty tough road that they're going through right now," Barish told BI."They would probably be best served by slowing down the growth there and waiting for some of the shakeout that may or may not occur," he said.

Growth at locations with drive-thrus in rural and suburban areas more than made up for a slower recovery in urban centers. "Out the window sales," including drive-thru and mobile orders completed through the drive-thru, made up over 50% of sales with a 10% increase over pre-pandemic levels.The CEO noted Starbucks' new strategies for keeping <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-drive-thru-menu-changes-customization-orders-2021-3">drive-thru wait times down</a>, even as customization increases and average ticket size grows. Starbucks began rolling them out in 2015, and they also use Deep Brew AI. The company is also rolling out handheld devices for baristas to use for inputting orders. Starbucks says they are in 500 stores already after being implemented during summer 2020. Starbucks says it is designing new drive-thru ideas, including double lanes, drive-thru-only stores, and drive-thru plus curbside pickup locations. "Full sales recovery in the US and favorable trajectory from here, robust growth in digital, and raised margin targets are encouraging," UBS analysts said. Starbucks says its US stores have made a full recovery from the pandemic thanks to drive-thrus and mobile orders

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startup+">startup</a> culture is growing in India as high networth individuals (HNIs) have invested more than Rs 1,200 crore into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=venture+capital+">venture capital</a> funds focused on helping early-stage entrepreneurs. 
 These <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> have flowed in over the past year into these venture <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=capital+funds+">capital funds</a> - <keyword id="2491409" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Orios-Venture-Partners">Orios Venture Partners</keyword>, Zodius Capital, Your-Nest Angel, Kalaari Capital and Blume Ventures - which have together raised Rs 4,360 crore, data shared by these funds with the Economic Times reveal. 
 
These funds have the mandate to invest in app-makers, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=radio+taxi+">radio taxi</a> companies, food-ordering platforms and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=healthcare+">healthcare</a> aggregators and such Internet businesses and other <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword>. In some funds, over 50% of the corpus raised has come in from high networth individuals. 
 The trend to invest in startups started with top executives and businessmen. "People who are exposed to various asset classes have now begun seeing value in venture funds," says <keyword id="1768757" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sunil-Goyal">Sunil Goyal</keyword>, CEO of YourNest Angel Fund. 
 
He said: “Even traditionally wealthy investors are warming up to the idea of investing in startup funds." 
 
These numbers are in line with an ET CXO poll on startup investing published on Monday. Over 60% of the 100-plus CXOs polled by ET said they had already invested a portion of their wealth in startups. Another 25% expressed interest in such investments in the future. 
 
· Low awareness level "The HNI response to startup funds has been pretty good, but awareness level is still low," says Rehan Yar Khan, founder-partner at Orios Venture Partners. These funds, Khan says, are not yet as popular as <keyword id="6354553" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="real-estate">real estate</keyword> or equity funds. 
Orios Venture mobilised close to Rs 150 crore from HNIs in its earlier fund, which closed in August 2014. It is now raising Rs 1,200-crore fund and expects to get Rs 300 crore from rich Indian investors. 
Zodius Capital recently raised over 45% of its Rs 700-crore fund from rich domestic investors. 
 
· Ticket sizes have grown 
Individual ticket sizes have also grown over the past few months with average investment ticket sizes of Rs 10-20 crore. Wealth managers seek larger investments as these funds have a high failure rate. A portfolio of 20 companies may only have 3-4 multi-baggers (yielding returns of over 50 times), the rest being average performers and many turning plain duds. 
 
Wealth managers say funds will have to generate gross returns in excess of 20 per cent to make a meaningful case. "We'll have to wait and see how the first batch of funds delivers in terms of returns. Vintage funds in this segment will set the tone for future investments in startups," said Karthik Reddy, managing partner at Blume Ventures.
