I didn't want to touch that legacy," he said. The filmmaker said he wanted to explore the horror genre for a long time. "Having already made a film in the psychological thriller space, 'Deewangee', which featured a character with a split personality, I didn't want to repeat myself by working in that genre again. "That's when I decided to take the horror-comedy route. Growing up, I heard many horror stories in my village, and I've always been intrigued by the genre. I wanted to create a horror film that could also be enjoyed by kids. So the goal was to make a film that would make people laugh while also scaring them," Bazmee said. This means that independent trilogies like "Iron Man" and "Annabelle" within an existing franchise count, but trilogies that are continued years later like "Bourne" or "Pirates of the Caribbean" don't.We then took 70 of the highest domestically grossing trilogies in the US and calculated each film's average Rotten Tomatoes score based on both critic and audience ratings to get a more accurate depiction. There are two factors that come into play here: formula and necessity.The reason why film trilogies have been around for so long is that they're a really great structure to tell a long story, with each film serving as a beginning, a middle, and an end. This also means that each film should serve a very specific purpose.No matter the genre, the first film always serves as an origin story that introduces us to our heroes and the world they live in. That's why successful first movies usually fit into one of two categories. One, adapted materials from an existing body of work, like "The Silence of the Lambs" or the "Star Trek" reboot, that accurately capture the essence of the original source material, or, two, fresh, original IPs, like "The Matrix" and "<keyword id="61596" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Star-Wars">Star Wars</keyword>," that are quite unlike anything the audience has seen.The <keyword id="371763" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="sequels">sequels</keyword> always tend to enjoy more freedom, since their characters and worlds are already established for them. For this reason, the second film is all about heroes facing the greatest challenge they've faced yet, whether it be iconic villains or a battle that just seems impossible to win.This is where the problem with threequels comes in. There isn't really a formula for a successful threequel, at least not yet. And while sequels can usually stand on their own and focus on telling a good story...Bernie: Morning, partner.Narrator: Threequels have a lot more to accomplish. They not only have to tell a great story that tops the films before it, but they also need to tie every loose end and somehow bring a satisfying conclusion to the saga in almost exactly the same length as the other films. Studios often try to solve this problem with a bigger budget to visually raise the stakes. But it often just comes off as repetitive.Some threequels actually repeat previous successes as a strategy, like how "Return of the Jedi" was really a rehash of "A New Hope" but with a bigger Death Star, and "Spider-Man 3," which crams so many villains into one film, just replicates the same plot beats as its previous film. Which brings us to an even bigger problem: necessity.Trilogies suffer the most when they're just not needed at all. Skim through 33 of the worst-rated trilogies, and you could argue that about 85% of those films aren't needed after the first film. After "The Hangover Part II" destroyed everything the first film did right by replicating it, there were no loose ends that needed to be tied up, nor any separate conclusions to be made. But two years later, "The Hangover Part III" still arrived in the theaters with an even more abysmal rating.So, despite all of this, why does Hollywood keep making terrible sequels? The answer seems obvious. Money, right? Well, the box office shows that each movie in a trilogy generally makes less money than the one that came before, but their differences aren't big enough to not warrant a threequel. On average, that third movie still makes four times more than its budget. While Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), and Nebula (Karen Gillan) adjust to life on Knowhere, Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) has buried himself in booze.Still reeling over the loss of Gamora in "Avengers: Infinity War," the Guardian leader can't move forward and accept that there's another alternate-timeline version of the woman he loves who's a stranger to him. Moving back and forth between past and present to dive into Rocket's heartbreaking mysterious origin, Gunn delivers an emotional sendoff for his ragtag group of misfits that possesses the humor and heart of the first two movies.Devoid of any real stakes, "Vol. 3" is not the best of the trilogy, but it's better than the last outing.<h2>Chukwudi Iwuji delivers a brilliant villain</h2><div type="image" title="Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 The High Evolutionary" height="5760" width="7680" msid="99854622" hostid="261"></div>The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) — an extreme nightmare mix between the creator in "Edward Scissorhands" and Sid from "Toy Story" — is obsessed with genetically engineering the perfect utopian society. His methods are madness though. He's one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's creepiest and most unsettling creations. His complex relationship with Rocket, who he created, drives the story's emotional theme about respecting and loving yourself for who you are and finding purpose in the world.<h2>The sequel could've been done without Warlock and Gamora </h2><div type="image" title="Adam Warlock GotG" height="600" width="1200" msid="99854623" hostid="261"></div>Flying in like a bat out of hell, Warlock is a big, beautiful, and strong Grade-A dum-dum. (Think Johnny Bravo.)Though he adds levity to the threequel's darker tones, his addition wasn't necessary and was clearly added for potential future Marvel outings. "Vol. 2" set Warlock up to be the sequel's main villain. So it's weird that's not really what happens here. Instead, the Sovereign's revenge takes a backseat in preference to the High Evolutionary.<div type="image" title="Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Gamora" height="4000" width="6000" msid="99854625" hostid="261"></div>Gamora's (Zoe Saldaña) presence also adds little to this movie and, if anything, becomes a slight annoyance. Despite exploring the complexities of moving forward after a loss and imposing undesired expectations on a person who simply can't fulfill them, this Gamora's too unrecognizable and mean-spirited from the one fans have come to love. While she adds some elements of humor to the film, it's clear Gamora didn't need to be here. Her character doesn't even want to be here. Back in 2014, critics believed it could be the first <a href="https://gizmodo.com/why-guardians-of-the-galaxy-could-be-marvels-first-fl-1516575377" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MCU flop</a>. Instead, Gunn took one of Marvel's most obscure comics and turned a talking tree who spoke three words ("I am Groot") into a household name. No other Marvel franchise has directly tied music so intricately to its plot that it becomes invaluable to the story. Nearly every needle drop works because Gunn <a href="https://screenrant.com/guardians-galaxy-3-soundtrack-every-song/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hand-selected which songs to include</a>. It shouldn't be a surprise then that the ending leaves things open for another possible "Guardians" outing. But, let's be real. Whoever may take over the "Guardians" franchise has enormous shoes to fill if Gunn's no longer attached. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is in theaters on May 5. Stick around after the movie ends for two post-credits scenes.<h2>Grade: B+</h2>

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' is a satisfying (but safe) ending to a decade-long franchise

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Activists fighting <keyword id="12198336" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="gentrification" source="Orion">gentrification</keyword> released a set of demands for <keyword id="11922325" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="barack-obama" source="Orion">Barack Obama</keyword>'s Presidential Center.</li><li>Residents demand investment that doesn't displace the community's Black residents.</li></ul>The ongoing, and years-long, fight over the forthcoming Barack Obama Presidential Center in <keyword id="11922327" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="chicago" source="Orion">Chicago</keyword> is heating up. Activists recently released a new set of demands for the project aimed at combating gentrification. They aren't protesting the center itself, but are working to stop development from displacing them. "We're not against the center," Dixon Romeo, an organizer with the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition, told Insider. He added that South Shore residents were among those who sent Obama to Springfield as an Illinois senator and later the White House."The issue is if you're not investing in community members and the costs are going up, there's nothing in place for folks to stay, it becomes harder for folks to live there," he added Even though residents of the South Shore neighborhood voted overwhelmingly for the Democrat both in 2008 and 2012, they stand to lose their homes should the project cause rents and home prices to skyrocket even further. Their demands include developing affordable housing from the city-owned vacant lots in a neighborhood whose residents are predominantly low-income and Black, as well as allocating money to the Chicago Low-Income Trust Fund for subsidized units in the area. The coalition is also calling for expanded tenant protections, including the establishment of a Tenant Opportunity to Purchase program, and greater Fair Notice protections. These measures would shield tenants from arbitrary punishment. Potential and current homeowners would also be protected. The policy demands include apportioning funds to provide grants and down-payment assistance for South Shore residents, forgiving the $2.3 million tax debt owed by primarily low-income residents. "You can implement all of the demands immediately," Romeo said of the<a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dniIg6VQ_zAgI44mkmA9rE-SbFk2bxfhJxIBQqA9u-I/edit"> list </a>the advocacy group released in November. "They would have an immediate impact and effect and help stop the <keyword id="12697938" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="displacement" source="Orion">displacement</keyword> that we're seeing," he added.<h2>Chicago's south side has a long history of gentrification and displacement </h2>There's a well-established precedent of displacement for Black communities in the South side of Chicago. In the past, much of it came at the hands of the University of Chicago, as the cultural critic Davarian Baldwin details in his book In the Shadow of the Ivory Tower: How Universities are Plundering Our Cities. Though the center is still being developed, its announcement has already had tangible effects on the housing market on the South side. Baldwin noted that "as soon as it was announced that the center would be in Jackson Park, speculation drove housing values up at exorbitant rates.""A real estate website named Woodlawn one of the hottest neighborhoods on the South side a couple of years ago," Baldwin told Insider. "That's cool and everything, but it comes after decades of profound divestment in historically Black neighborhoods like Washington Park, Woodlawn, and Bronzeville." "Many of these neighborhoods have been left to die," he added. According to the US census and data from Redfin, nearly 80% of South Shore residents are renters. Of those, more than half are "rent burdened," spending on average more than 30% of their income on rent. Meanwhile, the median sale price for homes in Woodlawn rose 106% from 2016-2020, according to <a href="https://www.movoto.com/chicago-il/woodlawn/market-trends/">Movoto</a>, a digital real estate company. South side residents like Jacky Brooks, who is also a member of the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition, are concerned that even though they want to invest in their communities, they'll have to move from these neighborhoods because of the lack of affordable housing. "I'm a younger millennial trying to buy into the place that I'm from, but I'm finding it difficult," Brooks told Insider. "Younger folks are actively trying to buy into the community and are getting priced out." <h2>The coalition is striving to replicate success seen in other areas </h2><div type="image" title="Woman fills out form." height="2000" width="3000" msid="88173212" hostid="261"></div>While ensuring a project as major as the Chicago Presidential Center meets community members' needs is a mammoth task, organizers at the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition have already seen some success. After five years of organizing, the coalition was able to <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/city-hall/2020/9/9/21428936/obama-presidential-center-jackson-park-residents-housing-community-gentrificaton-woodlawn">win protections for Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood </a>in September of last year. Woodlawn is a predominantly Black neighborhood and about 40% of the neighborhood's population is living in <keyword id="11964087" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="poverty" source="Orion">poverty</keyword>, according to a <a href="https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/-/media/pdfs/adult-pdfs/community/chna-community-profiles/woodlawn-community-profile.pdf">University of Chicago study.</a>The protections include grants for a program aimed at keeping housing affordable and money for residents to repair their homes. Construction on the Obama presidential center was also delayed in part because of a lawsuit filed by the nonprofit Protect Our Parks, separate from the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition. Protect Our Parks sued Chicago, federal officials, and the Obama Foundation in April, arguing that the site plans <a href="https://blockclubchicago.org/2021/08/06/federal-judge-denies-bid-to-block-obama-centers-construction-in-jackson-park/">did not follow federal regulations. </a>While a federal judge ultimately denied the advocates' attempt to halt construction of the project, the lawsuit reflects a community push for the construction of the center to actually benefit long-standing residents. "It was hard for long time for residents to express their frustrations about the center, because they didn't want to get called traitors," Baldwin said. "There was this idea of going against the 'Black Savior,' so to speak, but the fear of displacement became so profound that we saw labor organizations, community groups, and even University of Chicago faculty come together around the Community Benefits Coalition." <h2>As construction approaches, the fight for "true" investment continues </h2>Last month, the Obama Foundation, which is overseeing construction of the center, announced that <a href="https://www.obama.org/updates/bezos-donation-2021/">Amazon founder Jeff Bezos donated $100 million to its organization. </a>Bezos requested that the center be named after the late Congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis as part of the deal. The donation comes a couple of months after the Obama Foundation <a href="https://www.obama.org/the-center/groundbreaking-2021/">officially broke ground on the site of the center</a>. Bezos isn't the only mega-donor to contribute to the center; the Obama Foundation announced it has received at least $10 million in donations from corporations and other foundations. The center, which will include a museum tower, plaza, a Chicago library branch, a forum, and an athletic center, is drawing significant financial investment. But whether that money will actually benefit South Shore residents and other Chicagoans living on the city's south side is yet to be determined, according to advocates. Neither the Obama Foundation or Obama responded to Insider's requests for comment about the center. However, the Obama Foundation advertises the project as one that will "create new jobs and opportunities" and "uphold our commitment to this vibrant community" on its website.Obama also previously told <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/exclusive-barack-obama-defends-location-obama-center-absolutely/story?id=80267219">ABC News </a>that he's "absolutely confident" the center will benefit the community. But some are not convinced this will be the case. "We've seen this movie before and we don't want a three-quel," Romeo, the Obama Community Benefits Agreement Coalition advocate, said."We've seen the promises made by the city, but there's nothing in writing and nothing that's legally binding, and then you look up and you can't afford to live here anymore."

The three-quel earned a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/iron-man-3-breaks-box-office-records-with-1753-million-2013-5">massive $175.3 million</a> opening weekend. 
That's not a surprise. 
Moviegoers not only saw the film as a sequel to 2010's "Iron Man 2," but also as a followup to last year's highest-grossing film, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=avengers11.htm" target="_blank">The Avengers</a>." 
The result may not have been as high as the opening weekend for "The Avengers"—the movie wasn't as kid friendly—but the film still set box-office records in China and here as the second-highest opening weekend at theaters. 
Meanwhile, the rest of the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> took a huge beating. 
Out of the top ten this week include Gerard Butler's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=olympushasfallen.htm">Olympus Has Fallen</a>," "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jurassicpark3d.htm">Jurassic Park in 3D</a>," and "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=gijoe2.htm">G.I. Joe: Retaliation</a>." 
"Retaliation" took a hard hit this weekend dropping five spots and more than 65%. After six weeks, the film has taken in $355.9 million worldwide. 
Here are this weekends winners and losers in Hollywood: 
10. Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=placebeyondthepines.htm">The Place Beyond the Pines</a>" dipped 50% this weekend earning $1.3 million. The Focus Features film has earned $18.7 million at the box office. 
9. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=scarymovie5.htm">Scary Movie 5</a>" barely holds on with $1.4 million. The sequel featuring Lindsay Lohan has earned $49.4 million worldwide. It's the <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?id=scarymovieshow.htm" target="_blank">lowest-grossing film in the series</a> to date. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=scarymovie4.htm" target="_blank">Scary Movie 4</a>" earned $178 million worldwide. 
8. Oddly enough, Disney's big March hit, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=oz.htm">Oz the Great and Powerful</a>" jumped five spots this weekend earning $1.8 million despite bowing out of 450 theaters. The Sam Raimi directed film has earned $484.8 million worldwide. 
7. Reese Witherspoon's arrest isn't hurting the income of her latest film, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=mud.htm">Mud</a>." If anything, it's helping to make her indie film more popular.The film moved up four spots earning $2.2 million at theaters. 
6. Amanda Seyfried's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=bigwedding.htm">The Big Wedding</a>" manages to only dip two spots after a weak opening last week. The Lionsgate film took in $3.9 million. 
5. DreamWorks Animation's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=croods.htm">The Croods</a>" saw one of the lowest dips at theaters (37.2%) earning $4.2 million. The caveman flick has earned $517.9 million worldwide. That's good for animation studio as analysts are worrying its next film out, "Epic," may not hold water at theaters. 
4. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=oblivion.htm">Oblivion</a>" finally took a hard hit at theaters in week three earning $5.8 million. Tom Cruise's latest action thriller has earned most of its money overseas (66%) bringing it to a total of $222.8 million worldwide. 
3. While Cruise's audience disappeared, Jackie Robinson fans helped keep "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=42.htm">42</a>" afloat with $6.2 million. The Warner Bros.' baseball film has earned $78.3 million without playing internationally. The film cost an estimated $40 million to produce. 
2. The Rock's "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=painandgain.htm">Pain and Gain</a>" dropped 62.5% in its second week in theaters earning $7.6 million. The Michael Bay-directed film has now earned $33.9 million at theaters. 
1. "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ironman3.htm">Iron Man 3</a>" beat all estimates for the weekend taking in a huge $175.3 million. Compared to previous installments of the series, the third film blew "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ironman2.htm">Iron Man 2</a>" ($128.1 million) and "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ironman.htm">Iron Man</a>" ($98.6 million) out of the water. The film is well on its way to earning $1 billion at the box office. Since its international debut at the end of April, the film has earned an incredible $680 million worldwide.

'Iron Man 3' Has The Second-Highest Weekend Ever At Theaters - Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

<keyword id="27900" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Christian-Bale">Christian Bale</keyword> <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/07/01/christian-bale-batman-justice-league/" target="_blank">confirmed to Entertainment Weekly</a> that he will never ever play <keyword id="25718" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="batman">Batman</keyword> again. Ever. 
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” said Bale. 
He added he rather see someone else take on the role in the future.
"It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
Since the release of "Man of Steel," there's been talk of a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/man-of-steels-henry-cavill-wants-to-see-a-batman-superman-crossover-movie-2013-6" target="_blank">future "Justice League" film</a>, something Bale told EW he doesn't have any knowledge of either. We're not surprised by that since that film would be in the earliest of development stages.
This isn't particularly new. 
We've heard <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi3BYcem4yU" target="_blank">rumors</a> before the actor isn't interested in donning the cape and cowl again. However, we're just not buying that Bale would never have anything to do again with the Bat.
Yes, we know Batman screenwriter David S. Goyer has basically confirmed the next go at the Dark Knight <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/06/14/justice-league-batman-christian-bale/" target="_blank">would be a reboot</a>, but we're not shelving Bale just yet. 
There's just way too much money at stake.
1. You don't just walk away from one of the all-time highest-grossing superhero films.
<keyword id="127480" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Christopher-Nolan">Christopher Nolan</keyword>'s Batman trilogy has earned $2.5 billion worldwide. $2 billion of those earnings came from the last two films alone.
"<keyword id="462161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Dark-Knight-Rises">The Dark Knight Rises</keyword>" had one of the all-time highest grossing opening weekends earning $160.9 million. While "The Avengers" holds the top spot with $207.4 million for the largest debut, "TDKR" earned that much money despite no 3D screenings and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/at-least-10-killed-and-30-40-injured-at-dark-night-rises-premiere-in-colorado-2012-7">tragic Colorado shooting</a> at a midnight showing for the film.
Had the tragic events that unfolded that weekend not occurred, that film would have most likely <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-dark-knight-rises-box-office-outlook-2012-7">beat out "The Avengers" for the largest box-office weekend</a>. It earned <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-dark-knight-rises-becomes-second-highest-grossing-midnight-opening-2012-7">more in midnight sales</a> than the Marvel team and was <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&amp;id=avengers11.htm">on pace with the film</a> <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&amp;id=avengers11.htm">Friday</a> before taken a huge dive in theaters Saturday.
After the "Harry Potter" franchise ended, Batbale and Nolan have been much of <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?studio=warnerbros.htm">Warner Bros.' backbone at theaters</a>. Sure, they have Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" series for two more years, but after 2014, if WB wants to compete with Disney and Marvel it needs to figure out what it's doing with the DC universe.
2. Warner Bros. could have Disney right where it wants them.

That's massive for a franchise start. 
"Man of Steel" <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?id=superheroorigin.htm&amp;sort=opengross&amp;order=DESC&amp;p=.htm">blew away every other superhero origin story</a> including "<a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=spiderman.htm">Spider-Man</a>" which previously had the number one spot on the chart grossing an unheard of $114.8 million opening weekend back in 2002. How did the first Iron Man film fare? It earned $98.6 upon its debut. 
Immediately following <keyword id="7435" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Superman">Superman</keyword>'s killer box-office weekend, Disney and Marvel announced<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/robert-downey-jr-signs-on-for-two-more-2013-6"> Robert Downey Jr. was secured for two more "Avengers" sequels</a>. 
Disney could have continued "The Avengers" without Downey Jr., but after "Iron Man 3" made a massive $174 million at the box office opening weekend, it was clear he's the main draw to an "Avengers" flick. 
In the same way, if Warner Bros. is serious about making a "<keyword id="254726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-League">Justice League</keyword>" film — and how could they not when Disney is announcing their line up for future <a href="http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=37826" target="_blank">Marvel films left and right</a> — Batman's needs to be in it. Other than Superman, he's the glue that holds the crew together. 
Could Warner Bros. do a "Justice League" with a different Batman?
Sure. 
Sony decided to do another "<a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=spiderman4.htm" target="_blank">Spider-Man</a>" franchise with Andrew Garfield as a younger Spidey, but it's not doing as well as its <a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/search/?q=spider-man" target="_blank">original "Spider-Man" threequel</a>.
In terms of star power, Henry Cavill has been well received as the icon for Superman. Parallels to the comics aside, Batman is Warner Bros.' Iron Man. Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne is Warner Bros.' Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark.
3. Why Bale could still be Batman.
It's no secret Nolan and actors in big blockbusters seem to have no problems lying to press concerning big roles.

Technically, he doesn't need to be the Caped Crusader. In "The Dark Knight Rises" his character repeats numerous times a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRMu1LA1gq4" target="_blank">hero can be anyone</a>. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svoroDTmiuo" target="_blank">Batman can be anybody</a>.
However, only one person can be Bruce Wayne.
For those familiar with the DC universe, Wayne wasn't the only guy to fill in the Bat's shoes.
One easy-to-comprehend route WB could take that makes sense with the franchise is to call back Joseph Gordon-Levitt who inherited the bat mantle at the end of "The Dark Knight Rises."
Make him into some sort of <a href="http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Nightwing" target="_blank">Nightwing</a> or "<a href="http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Batman_Beyond" target="_blank">Batman Beyond</a>."
Lucky for us, Wayne <a href="http://www.dccomics.com/tags/justice-league-beyond" target="_blank">wasn't the only Batman wrangled into the league</a>. This way Christian Bale could have the freedom to pop in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MbRyRlMGdQ" target="_blank">every now</a> <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXbGQZqu3KA" target="_blank">and then</a> as a mentor type.
Plus, IF those many rumors of a future Batman reboot are true (please no), it wouldn't be a far stretch for WB to explore a "Batman Beyond" film. They've tried in the past. 
According to "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Sci-fi-Movies-Revised-Expanded/dp/1845767551/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1372781668&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=tales+from+development+hell" target="_blank">Tales From Development Hell</a>," Warner Bros. seriously considered adapting the animated cartoon about an older Bruce Wayne passing over the bat mantle to Terry McGinnis to film. The studio even registered domain names related to a potential movie.
In 2000, it even appeared to be real.
"As co-creator Paul Dini told website Comics Continuum, 'Boaz is co-writing the script with Alan Burnett and myself, as well as directing.' Although such a script was almost certainly completed, soon after Dini's announcement the studio let it be known that it was no longer pursuing the Batman Beyond approach."
Thanks to "Man of Steel" we know <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/there-will-be-a-batman-easter-egg-in-man-of-steel-2013-6" target="_blank">Wayne exists in this universe</a>. So it wouldn't feel out of place to have Batman be played by one individual while Bale reprised his now-iconic role.
Bottom line: If Warner Bros. doesn't want Disney running laps around them with the Marvel, it needs to put its best foot forward. 
Fine. Don't have Bale play Batman, but don't discard him completely. 
Christian Bale is the hero Warner Bros. deserves (even if he claims <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL7PSlUuWPs" target="_blank">he's not the one it needs</a>).
