New Delhi, Jan 25 () Private sector lender ICICI Bank on Saturday reported an over two-fold jump in standalone net profit at Rs 4,146.46 crore for the third quarter ended December 2019.
It had registered a net profit of Rs 1,604.91 crore in the October-December period a year ago, ICICI Bank said in a BSE filing.
Total income rose 17.23 per cent to Rs 23,638.26 crore during the quarter under review as compared to Rs 20,163.25 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
The bank's asset quality improved with gross non-performing assets (NPAs) falling to 5.95 per cent of gross loans at December-end 2019, compared to 7.75 per cent a year ago.
"The net interest margin was 3.77 per cent in Q3, FY2020 compared to 3.64 per cent in the quarter ended September 30, 2018 (Q2, FY2020) and 3.40 per cent in Q3, FY2019," ICICI Bank said in a statement.
Net NPAs stood at 1.49 per cent of total advances as against 2.58 per cent as on December 2018.
"Provisions (excluding taxes) declined by 51 per cent year-on-year to Rs 2,083 crore in Q3 FY2020 from Rs 4,244 crore in Q3 FY2019," it said. 
In absolute term, gross bad loans of the lender stood at Rs 43 453.86 crore as on December 31, 2019 as compared to Rs 51 591.47 crore a year ago
Net bad loans were valued at Rs 10,388.50 crore as against Rs 16,252.44 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.
On consolidated basis, the net profit was at Rs 4,670.10 crore during the quarter ended December 2019, against Rs 1,874.33 crore in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
Income, on consolidated basis, was at Rs 38,370.95 crore during the quarter ended December 2018-19 from Rs 33,433.31 crore in the year-ago period.
Treasury income grew by 11 per cent year-on-year to Rs 531 crore in quarter under review from Rs 479 crore in the third quarter a year ago, it said.
 Net interest margin was 3.77 per cent in the third quarter.

New Delhi: Steel companies in the country are likely to face margin pressure in the third quarter of FY25 as muted steel prices compress spreads, according to a report by Axis Securities. The report stated that the weak demand in China and higher exports from the country have been identified as key factors behind the decline in steel prices. The report highlighted that <keyword id="24048830" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-steel-exports" source="keywords">Chinese steel exports</keyword> reached 92 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) between January and October 2024, marking a 22 per cent year-on-year increase. This has led to an oversupply in the global market, weighing down prices domestically. It said "Weak Chinese domestic demand along with higher Chinese exports has led to a decline in steel prices in India. Chinese steel exports from Jan'24 to Oct'24 stood at 92 MTPA, up 22 per cent YoY" In India, the average price of hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel in the trader's market in Mumbai fell by 8 per cent year-on-year and 6 per cent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 51,802 per tonne in the second quarter of FY25. Spot prices have further declined to Rs 49,000 per tonne, 5 per cent lower than the Q2FY25 average. The report also noted some signs of recovery in China's residential property sector, with increased transactions in major cities following policy measures aimed at boosting demand. However, challenges remain, as the three-month moving average of year-to-date floor space declined by 19 per cent year-on-year in September 2024, remaining in negative territory. It said "China's residential property sector is showing some signs of improvement with the transactions in major cities rising after recent policy measures introduced to boost demand". On the global front, the report noted that the probability of a 25-basis point rate cut by the US Federal Reserve in its December 2024 meeting has fallen to 58.9 per cent, down from 76.8 per cent in October 2024, owing to strong economic data from the US. Additionally, China has removed a 13 per cent export rebate on aluminum and copper, effective December 1, 2024, in response to anticipated tariff measures by the new US administration. These developments highlight the ongoing challenges and potential shifts in the global and domestic steel and metals markets.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Gucci had a challenging third quarter partly due to its APAC slump, per Kering's latest earnings call.</li><li>The Italian luxury brand's sales dropped 25% this quarter compared to the previous year.</li></ul>Gucci just had a bad quarter, and Kering is attributing the lackluster performance to a slump in its Asia Pacific market.The Italian luxury brand saw a 25% drop in quarterly revenue as compared to a year before.Gucci's parent company, French luxury group Kering, reported $1.77 billion in sales in the third quarter of 2024, compared to $2.39 billion in the same period last year."Sales from the directly operated retail network were down 25% on a comparable basis, the House being particularly impacted by market conditions, especially in Asia-Pacific," Kering's press release on Wednesday said of Gucci.The Asia Pacific region, which accounted for about a third of Gucci's global revenue this quarter, was the major dampener on sales.According to a third-quarter revenue infographic by Kering, sales in the APAC region were down 38% compared to the previous year."With discipline and determination, we are executing a far-reaching transformation of the Group, and at Gucci in particular, at a time when the whole luxury sector faces unfavorable market conditions," the group's CEO, François-Henri Pinault, said in the release."This severely impacts our performances in the short term," he added.Kering's performance was weaker than analysts had predicted."Overall, we were expecting a challenging 3Q print, and some level of reduction in FY24E EBIT guidance, however the magnitude of earnings erosion in the short term is worse than expected," analysts at RBC said in a note seen by Reuters."Of course, the debate continues to center on Gucci. How can the brand recover its mojo, how will margins ever build towards the 41%+ mid-term target, especially after FY23?" Jefferies analysts, led by James Grzinic, wrote in a note released on Wednesday.Luxury brands have been struggling in the Asian market, particularly in China. LVMH <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lvmh-luxury-louis-vuitton-struggles-china-slowdown-2024">reported a 3% year-over-year decline in sales</a> in the third quarter due to waning demand from Chinese consumers.An ongoing property crisis, geopolitical tensions, and high youth unemployment rates have weakened consumer confidence in the country, which was once heralded as one of the world's hottest luxury markets.However, a bright spot for Gucci in Asia was Japan. According to Kering, Gucci saw a 7% increase in sales in Japan in the third quarter compared to the start of 2024.Luxury <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rich-chinese-flock-to-japan-in-search-of-luxury-bargains-2024-7">sales in Japan have been strong</a> despite a downturn across Asia. This was partially because of its weakened currency, which attracted foreign tourists to buy luxury items on its shores."Right now, the devaluation of the yen is driving a lot of tourism to Japan," Amrita Banta, managing director of luxury insights firm Agility Research &amp; Strategy, told Business Insider in July.Apart from Gucci, Kering's other brand, Yves Saint Laurent, also suffered a loss. YSL's sales were down 12% compared to the same period last year, Kering reported.Shares for Kering fell nearly 1.5% after its earnings were released on Wednesday in Europe. Kering's stock has fallen over 40% year-to-date.The third quarter earnings come shortly after Kering appointed Stefano Cantino as Gucci's new chief executive on October 8. Cantino was previously the brand's deputy CEO. Representatives for Kering did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

New Delhi, Jan 31 () The country's largest lender SBI on Friday reported a 41 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 6,797.25 crore in the October-December quarter this fiscal compared to Rs 4,823.29 crore in the year-ago period.
 Consolidated income rose to Rs 95,384.28 crore in the third quarter from Rs 84,390.14 crore in October-December 2018-19, SBI said in a regulatory filing.
 On asset front, the lender showed improvement with the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) falling to 6.94 per cent of the gross advances as at December 31, 2019 from 8.71 per cent by same period in 2018. The net NPAs dropped to 2.65 per cent from 3.95 per cent.
 On standalone basis, net profit jumped 41.2 per cent to Rs 5,583.36 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal compared to Rs 3,954.81 crore during the corresponding October-December period in the same period a year ago.
 "This is also the highest ever quarterly net profit recorded by the bank," SBI said.
 Income (standalone) of the bank rose to Rs 76,797.91 crore as against Rs 70,311.84 crore in same period of 2018-19.
 During the quarter, the bank exercised the option of lower tax rate taking a one-time hit of Rs 1,333 crore.
 "Excluding the impact of this one-time additional hit, net profit in Q3FY20 would have been Rs 6,916 crore against Rs 3,955 crore in Q3FY19," SBI said.
 The provisioning for bad loans (standalone) too came down to Rs 8,193.06 crore for the third quarter of 2019-20 from Rs 13,970.82 crore parked aside for year ago period.
