<keyword id="1042120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber" source="Orion">Uber</keyword> on Thursday refuted a report that claimed the ride-hailing major planned to exit the Indian market and held discussions with potential buyers to sell its India business. Bloomberg reported that the US-based company explored selling the India business, but "suspended discussions after tech startup valuations cratered." In a statement shared with IANS, an Uber spokesperson said the company never explored exiting India -- not even for a minute -- and the report is "categorically false." "India is as important to Uber today as it was when we launched nine years ago. We are serving riders and drivers across more than 100 cities, hiring Indian talent aggressively, and planning for the next decade and beyond," the company spokesperson said. Uber competes with SoftBank-backed <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> in the country. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in April that it will expand its product offerings and its team in India. "We continue to expand the product offerings for the Indian consumer. Whether it is autos, motos or high-capacity vehicles or rentals, India has always been a very big part of the Uber journey," he said during the Virtual i3 summit organised by Times Bridge. Uber aims to expand its engineering talent in India to more than 1,000 people from 700 at present, he had announced. Last month, <keyword id="2502101" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber-india" source="Orion">Uber India</keyword>'s Director of Central Operations, Nitish Bhushan, said that they are "always striving to make driving with Uber a viable and attractive option for drivers and the recent hike in fares will directly boost their earnings per trip". To remove frustration for riders and drivers alike, the company is also showing trip destinations to drivers before they decide to accept the ride. "Drivers at the Uber advisory council meeting told us they would like more flexibility around payments. We are now showing drivers the mode of payment (cash or online) before the trip starts," the company said. To make the cash or online decision irrelevant, the company has also introduced a daily pay process for drivers. With these changes, the company said that they are also reinforcing their service quality expectations with drivers, especially in areas like cancellation and ensuring AC rides. Uber dismisses report that said it's planning to sell off its India business

The face of <keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telecom">telecom</keyword> in India has been redefined in the last 2 years. Entry of a large player with deep pockets, significant consolidation (both large and medium size organizations) and not just that but mobile telecom service providers investing in a parallel business model of payment banks. 
 
Naturally, all of this has had a huge impact in the way talent is viewed.

As the talent market matured, the sentiment-linked salary increases got backed up by business realities. 
 
At the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century – Telecom in India took a turn which was smarter and sharper in talent and reward management practices. Amongst services organizations, telecom historically has been one of the early ones to adopt best in class people practices. This has been showcased in the way Telecom has been reacting to business challenges and in turn rewards and HR budgets.

Navneet Rattan - Industry Lead – Manufacturing &amp; Services Sector, Aon Hewitt commented on the sector saying, "Amongst all the challenges that Telecom is weathering, it is still projecting a healthy 8.9% salary increase in 2017. Compared to a 9.7% salary increase average last year, it is a decrease but it is due to volatile developments in this sector." 
 
In the last 3 – 4 years, Telecom has consistently been close but lower than India average which is concerning. 
 
However, it's important to remember telecom was one of the first industries to adopt high differentiations for top talent. 
 According to Aon Hewitt’s 21st India Annual Salary Increase Survey, In 2016, not only were the number of employees ranked ‘A’ are less than 10%, the differentiation offered to top talent was 1.7 times. This differentiation has consistently grown year on year which means that compensation levels are competitive and some key job roles are expected to get hefty compensation compared to their counterparts in the <keyword id="34981" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="telecom-sector">Telecom sector</keyword>.

In addition, the adoption of pay at risk is fairly significant. 
 
At 13.2% of pay paid through variable pay, telecom is only second to financial institutions and Hi – Tech (in the overall services category). Further, telecom has been one of the first adopters of high long-term incentives at the senior and top level and this trend continues. 
 The attrition in telecom is 19.2 percent. This is approximately 3% higher than <keyword id="46431" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-Inc">India Inc</keyword>. average but in line with any service based industry with a large sales force. While the overall attrition in Telecom is higher than India Inc., the key talent attrition is below the India average and stands at 7.6%.

LinkedIn data shows that India, which has historically lagged in hiring women into leadership positions, has gained significant momentum with the largest percentage increase being hired into leadership roles (25%).

LinkedIn also evaluated the roles women were being hired into overall. It may come as a surprise that the technology industry saw the largest change with an 18% increase in female leaders hired. 
The top three job titles that have seen the strongest growth are all technology roles: User Experience Designer (67% increase), Chief Technology Officer (60% increase) and Web Developer (40% increase). 
 
Women CEOs make up only 18% of the workforce 
 In the C-suite, the single role that women hold more than or equivalent to men is Chief Human Resource Officer (56%, which is an increase of 82% since 2008). In contrast, women CEOs still make up only 18% of the workforce. At the director-level, hiring for women in the Director of <keyword id="6363148" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="information-Technology">Information Technology</keyword> role has increased by 57% since 2008.

LinkedIn data shows that diversity and inclusion are becoming a priority for companies worldwide. More than 37% of talent acquisition leaders believe that diversity will be the number one trend defining the future of hiring.

These three women are a beacon of inspiration for the rest of us. Whenever you feel like it couldn’t get worse, remember you can either be the person who feels sorry for yourself or you can work harder to ensure you achieve what you have been dreaming for, irrespective of the challenges. 
 
 
 
 
1. Shantham R, <keyword id="3275829" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-driver-partner">Ola driver-partner</keyword>, Bengaluru 
 
At the age of 58, when most people think of retirement, Shantham thought of turning into a new leaf by letting her entrepreneurial spirit take wings. Coming from a modest upbringing, life threw her a challenge when her daughter passed away soon after giving birth to her grandson. 
 
Though, she and her husband decided to take the onus of takingcare of their grandson, they were however battling immense financial constraints. 
 Shantham’s determination to ensure that her grandson gets the best education opportunities led her to joining <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>. 
 
Today, she owns an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/Ola-Cabs">Ola</a> Auto and is in the position to earn and save more than she did in her previous job. She has been successful in saving about two-thirds of her income till now. 
 
She also has a word of advice for everyone. “The world is yours to conquer. Go ahead, and work towards your dream!” 
 
 
 
 
2. Ganga Reddy Venkataapa, Ola driver-partner, Bengaluru 
 
 
After working as a teacher for the past 15 years, Ganga took the bold step of quitting her job to follow her passion for driving. The fact that she could work on her terms is what motivated her to join Ola. 
 
Even though she’d thought teaching would be an onvious career choice for her, considering she studied B. Com and B.Ed, she never quite enjoyed it. 
 
Apart from the flexible work-timings and self-reliance, her family’s support and her friends’ advice regarding the benefits of the platform pushed her towards becoming a driver-partner with Ola. 
 
Now, she is able to spend more time with her husband, who works in the Indian Railways and her son and daughter, who study in the 7th and 9th standard respectively and earn more money than she was previously earning at the same time. 
 
 
 
 
 
3. Pinky, Ola driver-partner, Delhi 
 
Life has posed Pinky many a hurdles but she hasn’t let that get to her and has always believed in the saying ‘Let the possibilities inspire you more than the obstacles.’ 
 
After the demise of her husband, Pinky had no time to grieve as she was left to fend for her family all alone. Not one to lose courage, Pinky quit her job as a driver with Airport Taxi, where she has been working for years- as it did little to help her financially and joined Ola in a bid to give her family a better quality of life. 
 
She’s been associated with Ola since the last year and now doesn’t only earn more than enough to support her family and ensure her three children get the best education possible. 
 
She not only takes pride in being member of the Ola family but has also been encouraging more and more women to take charge of their lives rather than succumbing to the unfortunate circumstances life throws at them.

Meet the three women Ola drivers who are driving their dreams across India

It’s a fact universally acknowledged that city commute for urban young Indians have undergone a vast makeover. Thanks to <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ola">Ola</keyword> and Uber, getting a cab has been breeze and doesn’t burn a hole in the pocket. However if you are regular to any of these cab services, you would know, some of the chauffeurs often tend to be rude, inattentive to customers and callous. While in some cases, it’s the general habit of chauffeurs, many a times; the driver is doing his duties for last 17 hours or more continuously. And his lack of rest is a major reason for the behaviour. When these chauffeurs had joined Ola and Uber, they thought that the earnings would be no less than Rs 1 lac, as advertised. While the initial days looked dreamy, some drivers repent of having bought a vehicle and paying the <keyword id="6357050" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="emi">EMI</keyword> now. The earnings have gone below expectations and now the chauffeurs need to work very hard to make ends meet. The drivers have often protested but to no effect. And this is where a new cab hailing service <keyword id="4638372" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sewa-cab">Sewa Cab</keyword>s had come up. Offering a tariff much lower than Ola and Uber, Sewa Cabs is run by drivers’ union in Delhi. The drivers conceived and soft-launched SEWA CAB on the first of May as the cheapest cab service in India with fares starting at just Rs.5 per k.m. Full launch will take place in the first half of July. Terming its model as ultra-low cost and independent of external funding, this promises to give power back to the drivers and liberate them from Ola and Uber while ensuring reliable, secure and affordable service to passengers. As opposed to 27% commission deducted by others from the driver’s earnings translating into more than Rs.15, 000 per month, Sewa Cab uses a subscription model with a fixed monthly fee of Rs.700. In other words, it will charge just a little over 1% of the driver’s earnings and still stay in black. This service has also introduced “Street Hail”. One can simply hail a cab on the street and still enjoy fares lower than any other cab operator in the country. More than 100+ drivers are signing up for Sewa Cabs on a daily basis. Commenting on his views on viability, the founder of Sewa Cabs, <keyword id="201896" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="rakesh-agarwal">Rakesh Agarwal</keyword> told <keyword id="824043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword>, “Our first step is to make people used to Sewa Cabs. And in a few years, Ola and Uber would be out of completion. Then we would start charging a bit higher tariff. “ Before deciding the fares, we spoke to hundreds of drivers. They all said that the average fare works out to Rs.15 even though the fare advertised by Ola and Uber is Rs.6 per k.m. “In order to compete against them effectively, the drivers unanimously suggested that we keep our fares at par with them,” he added. Sewa Cabs takes pride in the fact that it is owned and governed by the drivers through a nine member governing body – all of them are cab drivers. Apart from lower commission to be paid to aggregator, the drivers would be trained on various aspects of life. Apart from that drivers would be provided proper guidance on relaxing from days’ work. While <keyword id="781" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="agarwal">Agarwal</keyword> himself is quite positive about the endeavour, what made us feel worried is that passenger issues haven’t been taken care of. Speaking to Business Insider, Agarwal said, the customer care will also be by the drivers’ union and this is where it gets worrisome. We have seen how auto-rickshaw unions don’t advice drivers on charging above meter and refusals. And it’s the irate auto rickshaw drivers that have buoyed cab hailing service in most urban metros. Of the leading cab hailing services, most of them have a well managed social media response team with whom you can get in touch at any point of the day over most major issues. Moreover, it’s not always a cheap mode of transport. <keyword id="624" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Women">Women</keyword> in Indian urban cities alarmed by rise in the incidents of women harassment look for a reliable mode of conveyance. While autos hardly go by meter, it’s cab they trust upon, which again have precedence of not-so-decent treatment to women. Sewa Cabs could have fared really good had they prioritized womens’ safety and not just drivers safety.”

This summer, commuters in the NCR, willing to ditch metros and buses, will have several choices to book their cabs. This would also benefit them in terms of money, owing to the price war between these apps.

Cabby, the cab aggregator app to be launched today, has been developed by Sahil Arora, a seventeen-year-old school dropout from Gurgaon. The app will have 25,000 operational cabs in NCR, following which it would move to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/bengaluru-feel-relieved-as-ola-anduber-drivers-call-off-strike/articleshow/57221582.cms">Bengaluru</a>.

 Cabby would charge a base fare of Rs 37.50 for the first 2 km, followed by Rs 12.5 per km. Arora told ET that this is actually very competitive, and the fare would be lesser than what <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and Uber charge.

The second cab-aggregator app to be launched today is from 74 BC Technologies, operational from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/UberMOTO-enters-Gurgaon/articleshow/51603369.cms">Gurgaon</a> where it is known for the bike taxi aggregator Baxi. 
 
Baxi is now launching cab services in seven cities including Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. Acting as a technology provider for the app, it will be available free of cost for cab drivers. 
 
"Baxi will not take any commission from the drivers to use their technology platform," said Ashutosh Johri, co-founder of Baxi and an IIT Delhi alumnus. It would charge a base fare of Rs 50, followed by Rs 9 per km. Having around 1,000 cabs in its fleet, it would also have Re 1/minute wait charges.

Two new apps to take on Ola and Uber in NCR

Travelling within the city is a bane for all especially those who travel long distances for work. While women are increasing joining the workforce, their daily commute is still a tall task. Shuttl SAFE is also equipped with productivity tools for the commuter such as Shuttl TV, with exclusive content by Shuttl that engages the commuter while travelling to work. All seats shall be provided with earphones for the commuters to experience engaging content on Shuttl TV. Thus, controlling sound-levels within the Shuttl thereby taking care of the commuter’s privacy where she is also free to engage in any other personal activity without any disturbance. (Eds: Combining related stories) New Delhi, Mar 31 () Seeking to ease hardships faced by people during the ongoing lockdown, several banks on Tuesday initiated steps to effect the RBI-suggested moratorium on loans taken by their customers and e-retailers began deliveries, but job losses and pay cuts continued to haunt many even as authorities promised special facilities, including for migrant labourers. As the 21-day nationwide lockdown entered its seventh day, the Centre also asked all states and Union Territories to ensure normal functioning of banks and ATMs during the lockdown period and said the Rs 27,500-crore financial package under the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana will be disbursed in coming days. Separately, several public sector banks said they have started sensitising their branches about three months' moratorium on all term loans, including home, auto and crop loans, to help customers in overcoming financial difficulties due to the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent nation-wide lockdown. Similar steps are expected from the private sector banks also. The Retailers Association of India, however, complained that banks are unwilling to extend the three-month moratorium to borrowers even after four days of it being announced. It sought the RBI's intervention in the matter. Some telecom companies also announced free talk time and free SMSes for a limited period, especially for the low-income group customers and those distressed during nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. Ride-hailing platform Ola said it will offer interest-free credit of up to Rs 3,600 to driver-partners to help them meet immediate household expenses amid the coronavirus pandemic. E-commerce companies like Amazon and Grofers are also gradually resuming services across various cities they operate in but it will still be at least a week or so before they can clear the pending orders, according to industry executives. However, job losses remained the biggest worry for many, for those working in the services sector as well as the contract labourers in the manufacturing plants most of which have been shut due to the pandemic. Besides, the Union Home Ministry said over 21,000 relief camps have been made operational in the country where more than 6.6 lakh destitute people and those stranded because of the COVID-19 lockdown are sheltered as of now. Punya Salila Srivastava, a joint secretary in the ministry, told reporters during a daily briefing on the coronavirus and lockdown situation that over 23 lakh people are also being provided food at these camps and other locations. Separately, the Supreme Court asked the government to prevent migration of people due to coronavirus and said "panic will destroy more lives than the virus". It asked the Centre to get trained counsellors and community leaders of all faiths to calm down the migrants kept in shelter homes across the country. The court said these shelters should be run by volunteers and not the police, and there should be no use of force and intimidation. Experts, meanwhile, said domestic violence cases in India have increased since the lockdown began with husbands venting their frustration on wives, who have no escape from their abusers. India has been under a three-week lockdown since March 24 with its 1.3 billion people instructed to stay home in view of the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 32 lives and infected over 1,200 people in the country. The National Commission for Women (NCW), for instance, received 58 complaints from March 23 to March 30. Many of these complaints have come from north India, particularly Punjab, said NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma. In Kerala, the state government has decided that special passes will be issued for tipplers to buy liquor but on doctor's prescription that they are showing withdrawal symptoms due to non-availability of alcohol in view of the coronavirus lockdown. At least three men in Kerala have committed suicide after allegedly showing alcohol withdrawal symptoms within days after liquor stores shut the doors. Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of the country including in neighbouring Telangana and Karnataka. Kerala has the highest per capita consumption of alcohol in the country. The sale of liquor in the state has continued on an upward spiral despite the prohibitive tax on legal alcohol and the many dry days. At the same time, more companies announced pay cuts for their staff, while a large number of people, including the contract workers and daily wagers, have already been rendered jobless. Budget carrier SpiceJet has decided to cut up to 30 per cent salary of its employees in March, though the company told its staff that Chairman Ajay Singh has opted for the highest 30 per cent cut in compensation. In the US also, foreign IT professionals, a majority of them Indians with H-1B visas, have urged the Trump administration to extend their permissible stay from 60 to 180 days after job loss, amidst the massive layoffs in America due to the coronavirus pandemic. The H-1B visa, most sought after among the Indian IT professionals, is a non-immigrant visa that allows the US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.
