A video of her declaring that she is "a bad ass bitch" in four separate languages went viral after the show's premiere on June 1. The clip established her as the breakout star of the new franchise. Ayan grew up in a small village bordering Kenya and Uganda, according to the outlet.</p><p>"At 5 years old, my aunt and my grandma came to pick us up to take us to another town. And then the next morning at 6 a.m., I didn't know where I was going whatsoever," Ayan, 41, said during the interview. Couldn't pee. Couldn't move. When we needed to pee, they would carry us and put us on the grass. I just didn't understand what was going on whatsoever and my mom didn't know that that was happening to us," Ayan said.</p><p>Ayan added that she had to return to the doctor after getting married because "she couldn't have sex" adding, "then I had to wait until I healed." <ul class="summary-list"><li>Jason Nelson, a musician in Hoboken, earns $175,000 a year by performing at weddings and events.</li><li>Nelson transitioned from email marketing to full-time entertainment in October 2020.</li></ul><p><em>This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with </em><a target="_blank" href="https://www.essentialjasonnelson.com/"><em>Jason Nelson</em></a><em>, a 29-year-old musician and entertainer in Hoboken, New Jersey. It's been edited for length and clarity.</em></p><p>I'm a saxophonist, pianist, and business owner with a marketing degree and a certificate in recording arts. I earn around $175,000 a year in revenue playing events. I don't pay a manager, but I have limited business expenses related to gear, marketing, and transportation.</p><p>After graduating in 2017, I worked as an assistant strategist and then as an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/passive-income-email-marketing-business-steps-start-grow-subscriptions-members-2024-6">email marketing</a> coordinator. When I took my side hustle full-time, I started making around $125,000 more than my last salary.</p><p>Since October 2020, I've been a full-time entertainer for weddings, private events, and nightlife.</p><h2 id="ae6c5ebe-90cf-4dc9-ac0a-abc9a4ead51a"><strong>I started music as a side hustle in March 2019</strong></h2><p>I've <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/children-who-practice-this-hobby-are-more-likely-to-be-successful-as-adults-2016-7">played the piano</a> for 21 years and the alto saxophone for 18. From an early age, I learned that my pitch is perfect, which allows me to play any song by ear.</p><p>During my free time in college, I spent hundreds of hours mixing dance tracks in my DJ software program for my friends, and I DJ'ed myself occasionally.</p><p>Around 2015, I started an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/EssentialJasonNelson">Instagram account</a> where I posted short videos of popular songs on the piano and sax. I eventually was hired by a friend's sister to play cocktail hour piano at her wedding. She also had me play along with the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/worst-things-guests-do-at-weddings-from-a-wedding-dj-2023-9">DJ for the intro to her reception</a>, and I ended up staying for the entire wedding.</p><h2 id="1c8a7211-51e6-4dbc-8ad3-488490136532"><strong>I was so attracted to the adrenaline rush that I became obsessed with replicating the feeling</strong></h2><div type="image" title="a man playing a saxophone at a wedding" height="3333" width="4444" msid="112286557" hostid="261" sizebytes="472782"></div><p>I contacted several entertainment companies in my area and started getting booked to play at events. In addition to compliments about my musical talents, I kept being told I had so much energy and I was the life of the party. I realized my greatest passion was entertaining others.</p><p>While playing several events each weekend and still working my email marketing job, I built relationships with DJs, event planners, photographers, videographers, and other entertainers.</p><p>I also gathered content from my events to grow my Instagram and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@essentialjasonnelson?_d=d8h220f2dl59jf&amp;language=en&amp;sec_uid=MS4wLjABAAAAK0cUJs2HCg44FBVU5KSAgOLpPzPJCKKN38eofqbndHppgmwmXIrObVuRneSrfXOh&amp;u_code=d7f919k07d8lke&amp;utm_campaign=client_share&amp;app=musically&amp;utm_medium=ios&amp;user_id=6720542635264689157&amp;tt_from=copy&amp;utm_source=copy&amp;source=h5_m">TikTok</a> accounts, from which at least 50% of my event leads now come. I can reach virtually anyone worldwide, which has led me to incredible destination events in places like Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, and, later this year, Aruba and Dubai.</p><h2 id="cd757c08-6fa6-469c-9e92-b3841baf567b"><strong>I wanted to leave my 9-5 marketing job at the start of 2020</strong></h2><p>When the pandemic hit, I lost practically all my event bookings lined up for the rest of the year.</p><p>I was fortunate to still have a paycheck and work from home when most full-time event industry professionals were shut down completely. I continued to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/side-hustle-recommendations-jobs-to-try-this-year-concerts-surveys-2024-3">grow my side hustle</a> by networking virtually, posting content, and working on the administrative part of my business because I knew it was only a matter of time before events came back.</p><p>A surge of events started in 2021, and I knew I made the right decision to leave the 9-5 world the previous October. Thankfully, I had enough savings that if I failed, I could support myself for a decent amount of time or return to corporate work if need be.</p><p>Most of my live music packages start at $2,500 and peak toward $5,000, while the average is around $3,500. I play around 50-60 weddings a year and have had multiple occasions where I play two weddings in one day.</p><h2 id="3829df52-830e-4c44-ab1c-c227aca5282f"><strong>I saw a lot of growth in August 2022</strong></h2><div type="image" title="a man playing a saxophone at a wedding and the couple is shooting smoke" height="1365" width="1820" msid="112286565" hostid="261" sizebytes="240724"></div><p>Since I don't have an agent or any employees, when I started receiving an increase in demand, I was overwhelmed with how manual the booking process was.</p><p>I used to send out contracts and invoices using Google Docs and Sheets templates, converting them to PDFs, and having clients manually sign and scan them back to me. After hearing about <a target="_blank" href="https://www.honeybook.com/">HoneyBook</a> from a friend, I upgraded my technology, which increased my revenue. My business looks more professional now and I'm saving time.</p><h2 id="8a3ddfc0-0575-4017-af06-f6200a7ca66e"><strong>I've played more than 400 events, including more than 200 weddings</strong></h2><p>Some of my career highlights include the New York Jets' official 2023 team roster party and Teresa Guidice and Luis Ruelas' one-year anniversary dinner cruise, which was filmed for "Real Housewives of New Jersey" on Bravo in 2022.</p><div type="image" title="a man with a saxophone poses with Luis Ruelas and Teresa Giudice" height="1134" width="1512" msid="112286562" hostid="261" sizebytes="119572"></div><p>I love it when couples share their must-play list with me, but it's not mandatory since I read the crowd to determine the best times to make an impact. I often rehearse songs on the piano how I want to play them for a ceremony, but my saxophone practice is built entirely on the fly at each event.</p><h2 id="376ef37d-3a66-482d-bdcc-5cddcd29dd38"><strong>If you're looking to go into the entertainment industry full-time, find your strengths and triple-down on them</strong></h2><p>You can always hire or outsource other parts of your business that aren't easy or natural to you. What sets you apart from the rest will be your "it" factor, so clients will want to hire you for you.</p><p>This is my dream job. I love seeing the joy on the faces of every guest I interact with. My success isn't measured by playing all the right notes — I win by bringing the energy to the dance floor and couples telling me they had the best night of their lives.</p><p>I have no regrets about <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-big-tech-dream-job-pay-perks-not-worth-it-2024-5">quitting corporate work</a>. My life has been much more stable over the past five years. If I had let a few hundred dollars a month of health insurance hold me back from quitting my full-time job, I would never have had all these incredible experiences.</p>

He spends most of his days flying between New York City and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He works on the smiles of Hollywood actors, reality-TV stars, fashion models, and even royals. He's most sought-after for his boutique porcelain veneers, which cost clients $4,000 a tooth and up to $80,000 for a full smile reconstruction. So how did Apa become the world's leading <keyword id="6355064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Celebrity">celebrity</keyword> dentist, and what makes his signature veneers so pricey?</p><p><strong>Michael Apa:</strong> So, when I first started in cosmetic dentistry, one thing that was being taught was something called smile design, which was a golden proportion of the mouth and tooth form to create an ideal smile. And I think that's where the term "chicklets" and such came from, is because everybody kind of had this cookie-cutter, perfect smile.</p><p><strong> Narrator:</strong> According to Apa, what makes a perfect smile is actually, well, an imperfect one. Embracing the imperfections is key to Apa's signature method, called Facial Aesthetic Design. Here, he's using Facial Aesthetic Design to create a straighter, more confident smile for his client Andrea.</p><p><strong>Andrea Ahern:</strong> I find that my <keyword id="23660" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="teeth">teeth</keyword> are a little uneven, they kind of slant this way, and I don't like my gumline, and they're uneven underneath.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> Maybe four veneers on top, four veneers on bottom. And we would be able to straighten the teeth out, and we would also be able to use a laser where we would reshape some of the gum so that you wouldn't see as much to make it more proportional to the rest of your teeth and your smile.</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> The method uses a client's unique facial features to determine their most flattering smile. This personalized way of designing the smiles means no two are the same and is just the first reason why they're so pricey. After the number and shape of veneers are decided and the client undergoes any preliminary dental work, like fillings or gum reshaping, Apa takes a mold of the client's teeth. The mold will be used to create a set of temporary inserts for the client to test-drive their new look.</p><p><strong>Andrea:</strong> That is insane.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> Looks like big fake teeth, right? [Andrea laughs]</p><p><strong>Andrea:</strong> That's amazing.</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> Once a client is happy with the results, their smile moves into the hands of Apa's in-house team of master ceramicists. Having an in-house team at this skill level gives Apa full control over how each smile is made and is probably the biggest contributor to the teeth's price tag.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> When you talk about this process, it's almost like we're creating individual jewelry for the teeth, and that is the level at which it's crafted.</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> The ceramicists shape the teeth out of a special blend of porcelain, applying it carefully layer by layer with attention to pigment.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> The interesting part about white teeth: There's really no such thing as white. It's all a matter of value and opacity.</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> While bright-white veneers may have four to five shades, Apa's teeth use 17 to 20 different shades and opacities. The deepest pigments are layered toward the base of the gum, becoming gradually lighter and more translucent toward the tip. The overall effect so closely mimics natural teeth that, when inserted, there'd be no reason for the average person to believe the teeth are anything other than real. The custom teeth are typically ready in under a week, but those from out of town can get a new smile in as little as 24 hours. The convenience is a major plus for his high-profile clients with jet-setting schedules. The bespoke level at which Apa's veneers are designed isn't the only reason they're so expensive. It also comes down to the method in which they're actually inserted. At any other dentist's office, Apa says a client can expect to set aside an entire day for an insert. But here, it's in and out in under two hours. Part of what makes Apa's process so quick is what he calls a minimally invasive approach.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> So, when we talk about being minimally invasive in someone's mouth, it means cutting away as little tooth as possible and saving as much healthy tooth as possible. That in turn is what makes the veneers last longer. So, the less invasive you are in the mouth, the stronger the bond of the porcelain to the natural tooth.</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> This minimally invasive method is supposed to cause less pain and discomfort, too.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> I'm gonna lip-assist you, because you're really numb. Smile. And now you can pull it up.</p><p><strong>Andrea:</strong> Oh, my God.</p><p><strong>Apa:</strong> Right?</p><p><strong>Andrea:</strong> Oh, my God!</p><p><strong>Narrator:</strong> With proper care, clients can expect their designer smiles to last anywhere from 15 to 20 years.</p><p><strong>Andrea:</strong> I feel extremely confident with my teeth now. I'm smiling more in pictures, I just seem to be opening my mouth a lot more and not closing my lips. The show, Lohan said, will be in the style of Bravo's "Vanderpump Rules," and will follow her life overseas as she runs her new business.</p><p>"Vanderpump Rules" follows <span>Lisa Vanderpump, who first gained fame on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," as she runs her West Hollywood restaurant, SUR (short for Sexy Unique Restaurant). The show has gained prominence due to Vanderpump's management style over a wild group of employees. </span></p><p>Lohan recently opened a beach club in <span>Mykonos, Greece, which includes a restaurant and bar. </span></p><p>"There's a business side to my life now," Lohan told the Times."But I'm not in America, so no one knows about it, which is nice for me. Because I get to actually focus on the result of things." In addition to her club, Lohan also has a lawyers.com sponsorship. In an ad for the site, Lohan made cheeky remarks about her history of needing a lawyer after multiple arrests. </p><p>Lohan's presence overseas has helped her stay away from tabloids. Lohan told the Times that she moved to Dubai partly because of the privacy it gave her, because photography intruding on privacy is illegal. Lohan told the Times she feels so safe in Dubai that, sometimes, she doesn't lock her apartment doors. </p><div><p>"It's the safest place. It's less demanding," Lohan said. "America is always like, 'Go go go go go! I don't have to turn on the news and see about the<span> </span>Kardashians. I don't have to see anything anymore. I choose what I want to see and how I want to live."</p><p>While Lohan's primary focus right now, and potential reality series, would revolve around her business, she's still acting.
