"And then cut to later, Curtain's office, his is cold blues, modern, and when you walk in you feel you have to check your posture. The furniture is not very comfortable. I become very self-aware."</p><p>The story delves into the formation of a team of four orphans all with gifted talents who are tasked by Benedict to stop Curtain's plan to brainwash the world. For the Benedict character, Hale sports bushy hair, a thick beard, and corduroy suits. Curtain, meanwhile, has shorter hair and a trimmed beard, and wears power suits.</p><div type="image" title="Tony Hale as different characters in &quot;The Mysterious Benedict Society&quot;" height="700" width="900" msid="83873586" hostid="261"></div>Like pretty much anything made today, there were certainly computer-generated elements used in the creation of "Benedict Society," but Hale said that, as an actor, when you mix actual sets with great costumes, hair, and makeup (all three a top notch on this show), it helps a performance immensely.<p>Along with the tools the show provided, the <a href="https://www.insider.com/tony-hale-jessica-walter-on-good-terms-before-her-death-2021-6">Emmy winner</a> also looked within himself to find inspiration for his dual performances.</p><p>"Benedict is so full of joy and so full of empathy and care, I looked at him and hope that those qualities are also in me," Hale said. "But with Curtain, I see him as being misunderstood. He's manipulative, but it comes from trauma, so I guess what I'm saying is instead of looking at him as the evil one I can look at myself and say, 'Hey, there's times in my life where I've felt misunderstood.'"</p><p>Of course, as much fun as it was to play two parts, Hale will admit that it got a little confusing sometimes.</p><p>"It was a little tricky when I had to shoot both characters on the same day," he said. Both stories start in Cultural Revolution-era China, when astrophysicist Ye Wenjie watches her father, a physics professor, get beaten to death during a struggle session. Shortly after, she makes a pivotal choice that will influence humanity's path for centuries to come.</p><p>Helmed by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/3-body-problem-cultural-appropriation-china-benioff-weiss-game-of-thrones-2024-1">"Game of Thrones" showrunners</a> David Benioff and D.B. But Woo said at the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-amazon-disney-compete-at-sxsw-with-premiere-events-2024-3">SXSW Film &amp; TV Festival</a> in March that they had already begun working on a second season.</p><p>"For season two, we've got better than a rough idea," Weiss told <a target="_blank" href="https://collider.com/3-body-problem-season-2-plans/">Collider</a>. But the show's trio of showrunners told Collider that they'd likely need three or four seasons to adapt all of Liu's trilogy.</p><p>"The third book is massive. It's twice as long, I think, as the other two books," Benioff said. "So maybe that's one season, maybe it's two. But, you know, I think we'd need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story."</p><h2><strong>Who's in the cast for season 2</strong>?</h2><p>Nothing's confirmed yet. But — <strong>spoilers if you haven't finished season one!</strong> — there are few people who are likely, or at least have the potential, to appear in season two.</p><p>That includes Jess Hong (who plays Jin Cheng), Jovan Adepo (Saul Durand), <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/platinum-blonde-celebrities-2018-11">Eiza González</a> (Auggie Salazar), <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/game-of-thrones-liam-cunningham-fought-davos-crushing-on-missandei-2020-10">Liam Cunningham</a> (Wade), Benedict Wong (Clarence Shi), Sea Shimooka (Sophon), Marlo Kelly (Tatiana), and Saamer Usmani (Raj Varma). </p><p>I probably wouldn't count Alex Sharp (Will Downing) entirely out either.</p><h2><strong>What would '3 Body Problem' season 2 be about?</strong></h2><p>Here's where we'll really get into some <strong>spoiler territory</strong>, both for the ending of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/barack-obama-turned-down-3-body-problem-cameo-2024-3">season one of "3 Body Problem"</a> and book spoilers that might also be potential season two spoilers.</p><p>At the end of season one, Saul was named a "Wallfacer" by the United Nations. The position gives him essentially unchecked power to devise a secret plan to eliminate the San-Ti threat.</p><p>In Liu's books, Saul corresponds roughly to a character named Luo Ji, who's also a Wallfacer. Luo, like Saul, attempts to refuse the position and shirks his responsibilities. However, he later figures out the key to stopping the Trisolaran (as they're referred to in the novels) threat — an answer to the Fermi paradox called the dark forest hypothesis.</p><div type="image" title="yang weining and ye wenjie sitting outside in three body problem, wearing utilitarian clothing" height="2400" width="3200" msid="108750358" hostid="261" sizebytes="228794"></div><p>The Fermi paradox, as young Ye Wenjie describes early in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-tv-shows-movies-streaming-netflix-hulu-peacock-march-22-24">"3 Body Problem,"</a> is an intellectual dilemma: Given the high likelihood of extraterrestrial life, why have we never encountered it? The dark forest hypothesis posits that there are a high number of intelligent species and societies in the universe — but due to limited resources, they're incentivized to destroy each other upon contact. Thus, most civilizations attempt to stay hidden, for fear of bringing about their own annihilation.</p><p>Luo Ji manages to effectively prove the dark forest hypothesis and locks the Trisolarans in a stalemate by threatening to broadcast the location of their home planet to the universe.</p><p>It seems reasonable to assume that parts of season two would focus on that storyline. However, season one brought in story elements from both the second and third books — so you shouldn't assume that everything will be exactly the same.</p><p>"3 Body Problem" is now streaming on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.netflix.com/">Netflix</a>.</p>

If you paid attention while watching the latest season, you may have noticed some loose threads and new themes, which will be part of season four. </p><p>Here's what we know so far about season four of "The Boys."</p><h2>Black Noir may be dead, but the actor portraying him will return</h2><div type="image" title="Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir in season three of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="1619" width="2159" msid="107922820" hostid="261" sizebytes="130882"></div><p>Since the show's premiere in July 2019, actor Nathan Mitchell has played the mysterious supe. Black Noir's face was finally seen on-screen in season three flashbacks, but it was "Superman &amp; Lois" star Fritzy-Klevans Destine who portrayed the character.</p><p>This was an intentional casting choice. <strong><br /></strong></p><p>Although Homelander (Antony Starr) <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-boys-showrunner-season-3-finale-black-noir-death-interview-2022-7">murdered Black Noir by ripping his intestines out in the season three finale</a>, showrunner Eric Kripke recently confirmed that Mitchell will return.</p><p>"A character who is completely silent and in a black mask can be recast," he told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/black-noir-nathan-mitchell-recast-the-boys-season-4/">Entertainment Weekly</a>, adding that Mitchell will portray "a different character who wears the Black Noir suit." </p><p>"It's definitely not the last we've seen of Black Noir as a hero," he said. "It's just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season three, he's gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season."</p><p>"We'll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character."</p><h2>Victoria Neuman's agenda will play a big part in season 4 </h2><div type="image" title="Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman and Jim Beaver as Robert Singer on season four of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="801" width="1068" msid="107922822" hostid="261" sizebytes="22406"></div><p>The scene in which the Boys find out that Victoria (Claudia Doumit) has been selected as Dakota Bob's (Jim Beaver) VP pick sets up her arc for season four. Her intentions, beyond perhaps wanting as much power and influence as possible, are still unclear.</p><p>Kripke told <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-boys-season-3-finale-postmortem-showrunner-eric-kripke-interview-2022-7">Business Insider</a> that her storyline was inspired by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series of the same name. Later in the comics, one of the major plots involves Neuman being a VP and conspiring to become president.</p><p>"Even though we've taken a roundabout way to get there, we've sort of manipulated those chess pieces into position so we can start telling that story," Kripke said. </p><p>"The stakes couldn't possibly be higher because you have this secret supe in the White House with an agenda and is just hungry for power," he said. "A superhero in the Oval Office, I think, would be really destructive for a lot of reasons. The Boys have their work cut out for them next year."</p><h2>The season 3 finale cliffhanger sets up a major theme that'll be addressed</h2><div type="image" title="Antony Starr as Homelander in the season three finale of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="1200" width="1599" msid="107922824" hostid="261" sizebytes="51286"></div><p>In the final scene, Homelander murdered a Starlight supporter in broad daylight to the applause of his followers. </p><p>"It's a hint of one of our big themes in season four, which is society as a whole is fracturing into these two factions and no one's listening to each other and the threat of violence just gets worse and worse every day," Kripke told <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-boys-season-3-finale-postmortem-showrunner-eric-kripke-interview-2022-7">Business Insider</a>. "It's an appetizer of what all these superheroes are gonna be doing to society in season four."</p><h2>Homelander and Butcher's battle over Ryan will continue in the next season</h2><div type="image" title="Butcher, Ryan, and Homelander in the season three finale of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="2000" width="3000" msid="107922827" hostid="261" sizebytes="319004"></div><p>After the big battle at Vought Tower, Ryan (the son of Homelander and Butcher's late wife Becca) chose Homelander over Karl Urban's Butcher.</p><p>In the aforementioned cliffhanger, Homelander introduced Ryan to the world and the child smiled when he saw the positive reaction to his dad killing a Starlight fan. </p><p>Butcher has 12 to 18 months to live as a result of his use of V24, but he's going to try to figure out how to honor his promise to Becca about keeping Ryan safe. </p><p>"A lot of the season will be a battle over Ryan," Kripke told <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1337022/the-boys-season-4-what-to-expect-after-that-chilling-final-scene">E! News</a>, "because if Homelander ends up raising and influencing the kids that's basically a second Homelander with apocalyptic stakes."</p><p>The showrunner also told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/the-boys-season-3-finale-sets-up-season-4-tug-of-war-ryan/">Entertainment Weekly</a> that just because Ryan chose Homelander, it doesn't mean that things are far from over. </p><p>"He's still Becca's kid and there's still a shot that Butcher can pull him into the light," Kripke said.</p><p>"One of the concerns of season four will really be this tug of war over Ryan, as both men really try to get a grip on him," he continued. "So I think, if anything, we're just hinting at the danger of what would happen if Butcher loses that fight."</p><h2>Crovetti has been upped to a series regular and the season 4 cast will feature new additions</h2><div type="image" title="Cameron Crovetti as Ryan and Antony Starr as Homelander on season four of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="800" width="1873" msid="107922829" hostid="261" sizebytes="47026"></div><p>It makes sense for Crovetti, who plays Ryan, to <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBoysTV/status/1554165108313444353">become a regular cast member</a> heading into season four given the finale cliffhanger. </p><p>In August 2022, <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/08/the-boys-valorie-curry-susan-heyward-cameron-crovetti-series-regulars-season-4-amazon-series-1235082491/">Deadline</a> reported that two more actors will join the show as series regulars: Valorie Curry ("The Lost Symbol," "The Tick") as Firecracker and Susan Heyward ("Orange Is the New Black," "Vinyl") as Sister Sage.</p><p>Neither of the characters appears in the comics, so it's unclear if these roles were created for the fourth season or if Firecracker and Sister Sage are inspired by the source material at all.</p><p>In December, the official X account for "The Boys" <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBoysTV/status/1598376459160391680">revealed</a> that "Titans" star Elliot Knight and "Supernatural" alum Rob Benedict will join the show in undisclosed roles.  </p><h2>'The Walking Dead' star Jeffrey Dean Morgan will make his debut on 'The Boys'</h2><div type="image" title="Jeffrey Dean Morgan on season four of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="796" width="1061" msid="107922831" hostid="261" sizebytes="16076"></div><p>Morgan, who worked with Kripke on "Supernatural," had been vocal about his support of "The Boys" for years. </p><p>After Morgan tweeted about his love for the supe series in January 2020, Kripke <a href="https://twitter.com/therealKripke/status/1217859131610058755">said</a> that he'd be happy to write a part for the actor for season three. <a href="https://ew.com/tv/jeffrey-dean-morgan-the-boys-cameo-might-not-happen/">Due to Morgan's schedule</a>, he wasn't able to take part in the third season. However, the star <a href="https://twitter.com/JDMorgan/status/1529836271127998464">said</a> that he'd figure out a way to "make it work."</p><p>Morgan's casting as part of season four was <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBoysTV/status/1562824740946841601">revealed</a> in late August 2022, around the time that production began on the new installment. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Over 50 shows and movies are leaving Disney+ and Hulu.</li><li>Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said the company is being "strategic" with "content creation."</li></ul><p>When <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/disney-plus-review?r=US&amp;IR=T">Disney+ launched in 2019</a>, it boasted a huge library of content, including a number of huge franchises like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/streaming/star-wars-disney-plus?r=US&amp;IR=T">"Star Wars,"</a> the <a href="https://www.insider.com/every-marvel-disney-plus-series-ranked-from-worst-best-2022-12">Marvel Cinematic Universe</a>, the Pixar animated movies, and many more.</p><p>However, <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/05/disney-remove-series-streaming-disney-plus-hulu-big-shot-willow-y-dollface-turner-hooch-pistol-1235372512/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> reported last week that Disney will start pulling over 50 shows, movies, and specials from Disney+ and Hulu on May 26.</p><p>Insider understands that this is not a complete list of what is leaving Disney+ and Hulu, and there will be additional titles coming off the platforms.</p><p>Disney's chief financial officer Christine McCarthy said, per Deadline: "We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation."</p><p>Unsurprisingly, the news hasn't gone down well with subscribers and creators alike.</p><p>"Stargirl" director Julia Hart took to <a href="https://twitter.com/juliahartowitz/status/1659403664216436739" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a> to lament the fact that her 2020 musical romance movie is leaving the platform.</p><p>"Devastated that the movie I poured my heart &amp; soul into is leaving Disney Plus," wrote Hart. "Watch while you can! Proud of the work my amazing colleagues &amp; I did. I was 8 weeks post-partum when we started. The process was worth the sacrifice even if the result was not. Focus on process. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="1655735" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tony-Hale">Tony Hale</keyword>, who has <keyword id="15418" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="anxiety">anxiety</keyword>, told Insider there are specific "tools" he uses to manage it.</li><li>He says he doesn't live in the "what if" and focuses on senses like smell and sight.</li><li>While on set during the pandemic, he said FaceTiming with his family was key.</li></ul><p>Tony Hale has had <a href="https://www.insider.com/naomi-osaka-dropped-out-of-french-open-spotlighting-mental-health-2021-6">anxiety</a> for most of his life and says dealing with it head-on for years helped prepare him for the challenge of a worldwide pandemic.</p><p>"During tough times, you gain more tools in your tool box," Hale told Insider recently while promoting his upcoming <keyword id="7448675" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="disney-plus">Disney Plus</keyword> series, "The Mysterious Benedict Society." "When something like the last year happens, by the grace of God, I had a lot of tools to go to."</p><p>Hale previously <a href="https://www.insider.com/tony-hale-on-playing-toy-story-4-favorite-forky-interview-2019-6">told Insider</a> that his biggest problem has been living in the present. </p><p>"If I'm not careful, then I'm constantly looking to the next thing," Hale said back in 2019 while promoting "Toy Story 4." "And, honestly, that's easier for me to do than to challenge myself to be present. It's more of a challenge to look at where I am than to the next thing."</p><p>So in the past year, when the present was such an ugly and dangerous place, how did Hale get through it?</p><p>"There would be simple things that I would say to myself like: 'Don't live in the what if.' Whenever you find yourself in the 'what if,' you say, 'Not now,'" he said. "And there has been a lot of what if-ing this past year."</p><p>The "Veep" star said when times got particularly tough for him, he would try to activate his five senses. He would concentrate on smelling something, or focus on something in his sight line, and sometimes even touch something near him and focus on that.</p><p>"What that does is it grounds me to the space where I am because my mind wants to go somewhere completely different," he said.</p><div type="image" title="mysterious benedict society disney" height="1147" width="1529" msid="83380392" hostid="261"></div>Hale said the biggest help was technology - which he admits, in the pre-pandemic days, was something he felt tore people apart. But while working in Vancouver for five months shooting "The Mysterious Benedict Society" at the height of the coronavirus, he said using FaceTime to see his family kept him in a good mental-health space.<p>"I'm going to work and thinking, how am I going to get through this?" Hale said. "And I was able to see my family twice a day and then hear about their day."</p><p>"At the dinner table, they are all eating and my face is there on the device," he continued. "Those were the things I was very grateful for."</p><p>Despite having made it through the thick of the pandemic, Hale still sometimes struggles when it comes to staying present.</p><p>The Emmy winner told Insider there are bad days, but his recommendation for others managing their anxiety is to hit the reset button the next day: Start over.</p><p>"Sometimes, the tools are not working," he said. "That's when you realize you're going to have a day when nothing seems to be working, but that's okay. It's about not beating yourself up." </p><p>Hale plays two characters, Nicholas Benedict and Ledroptha Curtain, in "The Mysterious Benedict Society." The series premieres on Disney Plus June 25.</p>

She was 80.</li></ul><p><keyword id="1655735" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tony-Hale">Tony Hale</keyword> says he and "Arrested Development" costar <keyword id="1689403" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jessica-Walter">Jessica Walter</keyword> were on good terms before her <a href="https://www.insider.com/jessica-walter-arrested-development-actress-dead-at-80-2021-3">passing in March</a>.</p><p>Hale, who played Byron "Buster" Bluth on the six-time Emmy-winning show, came under fire following a 2018 <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/23/arts/television/arrested-development-netflix-interview-jeffrey-tambor.html">New York Times interview</a> with the cast of the show when he and costar Jason Bateman played down the behavior of fellow costar Jeffrey Tambor when Walter spoke out during the interview about a time Tambor got extremely angry at her on set.</p><p>"Her husband had passed away in 2019 and we were back and forth about that," Hale told Insider in an interview on Thursday promoting his upcoming Disney Plus series "The Mysterious Benedict Society." "We did [talk], I love Jessica very much."</p><p>During the 2018 Times cast interview, Walter got emotional talking about the incident on set with Tambor, who played George Bluth Sr. on the show.</p><p>"I've never had anybody yell at me like that on a set," said Walter, who played Lucille Bluth on the show. If you paid attention while watching the latest season, you may have noticed some loose threads and new themes, which will be part of season four. </p><p>Here's what we know so far about season four of "The Boys."</p><h2>Black Noir may be dead, but the actor portraying him will return</h2><div type="image" title="Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir in season three of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="1619" width="2159" msid="92814968" hostid="261"></div><p>Since the show's premiere in July 2019, actor Nathan Mitchell has played the mysterious supe. Black Noir's face was finally seen on-screen in season three flashbacks, but it was "Superman &amp; Lois" star Fritzy-Klevans Destine who portrayed the character.</p><p>This was an intentional casting choice. <strong><br /></strong></p><p>Although Homelander (Antony Starr) <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-boys-showrunner-season-3-finale-black-noir-death-interview-2022-7">murdered Black Noir by ripping his intestines out in the season three finale</a>, showrunner Eric Kripke recently confirmed that Mitchell will return.</p><p>"A character who is completely silent and in a black mask can be recast," he told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/black-noir-nathan-mitchell-recast-the-boys-season-4/">Entertainment Weekly</a>, adding that Mitchell will portray "a different character who wears the Black Noir suit." </p><p>"It's definitely not the last we've seen of Black Noir as a hero," he said. "It's just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season three, he's gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season."</p><p>"We'll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character."</p><h2>Victoria Neuman's agenda will play a big part in season 4 </h2><div type="image" title="Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman and Jim Beaver as Robert Singer on season four of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="801" width="1068" msid="105764801" hostid="261" sizebytes="22406"></div><p>The scene in which the Boys found out that Victoria (Claudia Doumit) had been selected as Dakota Bob's (Jim Beaver) VP pick sets up her arc for season four. Her intentions, beyond perhaps wanting as much power and influence as possible, are still unclear.</p><p>Kripke told <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-boys-season-3-finale-postmortem-showrunner-eric-kripke-interview-2022-7">Business Insider</a> that her storyline was inspired by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series of the same name. Later in the comics, one of the major plots involves Neuman being a VP and conspiring to become president.</p><p>"Even though we've taken a roundabout way to get there, we've sort of manipulated those chess pieces into position so we can start telling that story," Kripke said. </p><p>"The stakes couldn't possibly be higher because you have this secret supe in the White House with an agenda and is just hungry for power," he said. "A superhero in the Oval Office, I think, would be really destructive for a lot of reasons. The Boys have their work cut out for them next year."</p><h2>The season 3 finale cliffhanger sets up a major theme that'll be addressed</h2><div type="image" title="Antony Starr as Homelander in the season three finale of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="1200" width="1599" msid="92814972" hostid="261"></div><p>In the final scene, Homelander murdered a Starlight supporter in broad daylight to the applause of his followers. </p><p>"It's a hint of one of our big themes in season four, which is society as a whole is fracturing into these two factions and no one's listening to each other and the threat of violence just gets worse and worse every day," Kripke told <a href="https://www.insider.com/the-boys-season-3-finale-postmortem-showrunner-eric-kripke-interview-2022-7">Business Insider</a>. "It's an appetizer of what all these superheroes are gonna be doing to society in season four."</p><h2>Homelander and Butcher's battle over Ryan will continue in the next season</h2><div type="image" title="Butcher, Ryan, and Homelander in the season three finale of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="2000" width="3000" msid="92814973" hostid="261"></div><p>After the big battle at Vought Tower, Ryan (the son of Homelander and Butcher's late wife Becca) chose Homelander over Karl Urban's Butcher.</p><p>In the aforementioned cliffhanger, Homelander introduced Ryan to the world and the child smiled when he saw the positive reaction to his dad killing a Starlight fan. </p><p>Butcher has 12 to 18 months to live as a result of his use of V24, but he's going to try to figure out how to honor his promise to Becca about keeping Ryan safe. </p><p>"A lot of the season will be a battle over Ryan," Kripke told <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1337022/the-boys-season-4-what-to-expect-after-that-chilling-final-scene">E! News</a>, "because if Homelander ends up raising and influencing the kids that's basically a second Homelander with apocalyptic stakes."</p><p>The showrunner also told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/the-boys-season-3-finale-sets-up-season-4-tug-of-war-ryan/">Entertainment Weekly</a> that just because Ryan chose Homelander, it doesn't mean that things are far from over. </p><p>"He's still Becca's kid and there's still a shot that Butcher can pull him into the light," Kripke said.</p><p>"One of the concerns of season four will really be this tug of war over Ryan, as both men really try to get a grip on him," he continued. However, the star <a href="https://twitter.com/JDMorgan/status/1529836271127998464">said</a> that he'd figure out a way to "make it work."</p><p>Morgan's casting as part of season four was <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBoysTV/status/1562824740946841601">revealed</a> in late August 2022, around the time that production began on the new installment. As alluded to in the end-credits scene, the virus will play a role in season four, now that Butcher's aware of this supe-killing virus. </p><p>Homelander also won't be let off the hook for lasering a Starlight supporter to death in the season three finale of "The Boys." Instead, he'll stand trial. </p><p>The events of season four will also directly set up season two of "Gen V," which is already confirmed to be in the works. </p><h2>Season 4 will be released sometime in 2024</h2><div type="image" title="The Deep, Black Noir, and A-Train on season four of &quot;The Boys.&quot;" height="802" width="1069" msid="105764812" hostid="261" sizebytes="29166"></div><p>In April 2023, the showrunner revealed via <a href="https://twitter.com/therealKripke/status/1646145946378485760" target="_blank" rel="noopener">X</a> that filming wrapped. </p><p>"It's super interesting and fun and really, really emotionally rich," he told Variety. "Probably as emotionally complicated as we've ever done. So far, that's been my big takeaway. At the end of the day it was strangely peaceful, to be led at night by somebody else, just walking through a bunch of zombies," Hurst said.</li><li>Hurst was a little sad his death scene was so quick, but said <keyword id="6355065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TV">TV</keyword> probably couldn't handle the three of them together on screen. </li><li>This may not be the last time we see Beta or Half Moon. Hurst said he could "neither confirm nor deny" having a long dinner with "TWD" universe chief content officer Scott Gimple to discuss coming back on "Tales of the Walking Dead." </li></ul><p>Beta finally met his end on Sunday's "<a href="https://insider.com/category/the-walking-dead">The Walking Dead</a>" after two seasons as one of the Whisperer leaders on the AMC zombie series. </p><p>If you were hoping for a long, drawn out battle between Daryl, Beta, and Negan, that's not what fans received. Daryl (Norman Reedus), knowing Beta is much larger than him, made quick work of it by stealthily sneaking up on him to swiftly stab him in both eyes.</p><p>Hurst he couldn't see a thing at all during his death scene as fake blood spilled out around his eyes from extra prosthetics.</p><p>"It was real technical, walking from the makeup trailer completely and totally blind, led by an [assistant director], stepping over extras or laying on the ground at four o'clock in the morning in the Georgia heat," Hurst told Insider. "It was quite a day."</p><p>While in Vancouver, Canada to film a new Hulu series, Hurst spoke at length with Insider about filming his death scene, how he wished he had some more scenes with his good buddies Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the series, recording country music songs for the show, and hints that we may not have seen the last of him just yet in "TWD" universe.</p><p><em>This interview has been edited for length and clarity.</em></p><h2>Hurst is happy that Daryl was the one to kill him on "TWD." He was fitted with extra prosthetics for the scene.</h2><div type="image" title="twd 1016 beta death daryl" height="1666" width="2500" msid="78484578" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Daryl finally got the best of Beta. Are you happy Daryl killed you or did you want Negan to do it? I feel like Beta really didn't even know what was happening to him at this point. He was ready to let go.</strong><br /><br />Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think it really mattered to [Beta] who killed him. At this point, I was sort of like a kamikaze pilot. He knew that the end was near. He has 300 of his herd, or more than 300, saying, "We are the end of the world. It's coming, It's near." I think he knew that his time alive as a human was coming to an end.</p><p>I think he probably left that one sort of page unturned about not getting to kill Negan for infiltrating his ranks and killing Alpha. But, I think, in the long run, for him to be bested by Norman feels very good. When you're a great warrior, to be killed by another great warrior is sort of an honor. So I don't think that he's upset at that.</p><p><strong>What was it like filming that moment with the knives going into the eyes? You have all that fake blood coming out and you're just covered in it. I don't know if you remember how many times Norman had to try and "stab" you to make sure he got it just perfectly. I could just see Norman accidentally catching part of your face instead.</strong></p><div type="image" title="twd 1016 beta death" height="2000" width="3000" msid="78484582" hostid="261"></div><br /><br />So they painted in the blade. So all [Reedus] was really holding was the handles of knives just to make sure that I wasn't sort of stabbed actually in the face. Thank goodness. It was tricky. It was one of those very sort of technical things. I had to have prosthetics under my mask, you know, made up of dead Beta and dead Alpha that were totally covering my eyes. It sort of squirted blood out it, you know, because of the beautiful work of Mr. [Greg] Nicotero, as always. Mr. More Blood Nicotero.<p><strong>So you couldn't see?</strong></p><p>No. I saw nothing. I saw nothing... At the end of the day it was strangely peaceful, to be led at night by somebody else, just walking through a bunch of zombies. There's something cathartic.</p><h2><strong>If you're bummed Beta didn't have a bit of a longer fight scene with Negan and Daryl, Hurst was a bit sad about that, too.</strong></h2><div type="image" title="twd 1016 beta" height="1667" width="2500" msid="78484585" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>I loved your final scene, but I had one complaint. I've been waiting, and I'm sure the fans have been waiting, for a scene featuring you and Jeffrey [Dean Morgan] and Norman [Reedus]. The moment it was happening, I was going, 'Yes!' And then it was like, I snapped my fingers, and it was over. And, I went, 'Wait, what? That's it?' I wished it was a little bit longer. I don't know if you guys had discussed that at all.</strong></p><p>I think we were all kind of a little sad at that part because the three of us are such great friends, hanging out on the weekends all the time, and riding motorcycles every other weekend. The fact that we didn't really get a firm real good scene together, I think, we were sad about that.</p><p>But, then again, we're like three chaotic elements. You don't want to put them all together in one scene. It's too much. Your TV will explode. It's just too much cool. The two of them together are cool enough. You put me in there, it's just going to put you right over the top.</p><h2><strong>Hurst suggested changing Beta's comic character from a basketball player to a country music singer after reading the comic and even recorded music written by "TWD" costars.</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="twd 1014 beta half moon album" height="2000" width="3000" msid="78484590" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>You told me all the <a href="https://www.insider.com/ryan-hurst-talks-beta-walking-dead-interview-2019-3">way back in March 2019</a> that you and [showrunner] Angela [Kang] worked together to come up with an expanded backstory for Beta. In the comics, he's a basketball player. Here, we now know he's a country singer. How did you guys come up with that? Was, that you? The more I watched, I thought it was so clever how the zombie army had this interesting parallel to a hoard of concert fans.</strong></p><p>You know, again, I give all credit to, to Angela and to Nicotero and the producers and writers for being so willing to accept my collaborative, sort of, ideas. A lot of the time, an actor will bring a bunch of ideas to the table and they're all sort of cast aside, but Angela was like, 'These are great ideas. Let's use them.'</p><p>When I read the comic and I knew that his backstory was the basketball player, it almost felt more like a gag than anything else. So these weird little things happened where I was meditating one day and I was just like, Oh, I think he's a country music singer.</p><p>So I just wrote up all these ideas of him being a country music singer and having a best friend whose face that he sort of took with him. And that's sort of how the Whisperers were born. I just sort of threw out all these ideas, not really expecting them to use any of them and then they sort of called me back and said, you know, what else you got? I was just so, so grateful that they, let me do that.</p><p>I said if he was a songwriter, in sort of devolving, maybe he writes a song that sort of plays out like this. And I read [Kang] this sort of poem song that became, we are the end of the world. And they used all of it. I'm just so, so thankful for that.</p><p><strong>Speaking of the music, AMC released at least one of the Half Moon songs, "I Went to the Well," in April. You sang that. When did you record this music and how many songs did you record?</strong></p><p><strong><div type="image" title="twd 909 luke" height="1586" width="2114" msid="78484591" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The first song that I did, the turtle song, was written by Emily Kinney [who played Beth on "TWD"]. It was one of those sort of like actor's nightmare situations. Before we started shooting, they said, 'So we're going to make him a country music singer, we're going to use all these ideas' and they said, 'Well, you can sing, right?' And I said, 'Well, yeah, sort of.'</p><p>And then like two or three days before they said, 'OK, so you're gonna have to record a song in the next three days.' And I said, what? What, what do you need? What song? And then something had fallen through the cracks so I got that song very, very late. And then the other song was written by Dan Fogler [who plays Luke on "TWD"]. Him and I were just vibing one day.</p><p>I know that he's a musician. And I said, you should write a song for Beta. An hour later on my drive home, he sends me this little rough track of him singing. And I was like, 'Oh, let's do that.' So we passed it along to AMC, and they got somebody that really put all the composition together, and I went in and recorded another song. Again, it's just sort of a testament to how it's a true sort of meritocracy on 'The Walking Dead,' which is like, if you have a great idea, please bring it to us and we'll see if it fits in the show.</p><p><strong>That's amazing because I don't know how many people picked up on the fact that Magna listens to you singing that Emily Kinny song on season five, episode 10 at the Hilltop. It's playing in the background briefly.</strong></p><p>Yeah.</p><p><strong>I was trying to keep track of all the hints that were dropped on Fear and then on 'The Walking Dead' about your identity as a country singer. The ones that I had were that one, the album on Fear that dropped in the road. You hummed early in season 10 when you first met Alpha, probably one of your songs.</strong></p><p>Very astute. Very astute.</p><p><strong><div type="image" title="beta vinyl fear twd 514" height="719" width="1164" msid="78484595" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>Were there any other teases or hints that you can recall that I may have missed?</strong></p><p>No, I think that's about it. And again, I'll give it up to ['TWD' universe chief content officer] Scotty Gimple. He called me early on and said we're going to drop your album cover in Fear. And I was like, 'Oh, I love that sort of meta crossover.' I was like that's beautiful stuff. I think you got most of them.</p><h2>He would have liked to have seen another or more scenes between himself, Norman Reedus, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan</h2><div type="image" title="twd 1016 negan daryl" height="1666" width="2500" msid="78484600" hostid="261"></div><p><strong>Is there anything you didn't get to do on this show that you wished you were able to? Are there any scenes with any characters that you didn't get face time with?</strong></p><p>The only thing that I would have liked to see — just to see how all the elements would have played out — but if Jeff, Norman, and I were all really in one sort of sequence together.</p><p>Anytime that Norman and Jeffrey are on screen together, I love watching that dynamic. To throw sort of the darkness of Beta onto that, I would've liked to see... just put those sort of three powerhouses together. We get it for a nanosecond [on the finale] and then Beta gets stabbed in the face.</p><h2><strong>Could Hurst return to "TWD" universe one day? He'd "absolutely" return.</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="twd beta 913" height="2000" width="3000" msid="78484605" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><strong>Well, we know we have these six bonus episodes of 'The Walking Dead" at some point, and then a spinoff, "Tales of the Walking Dead." Is there a chance we may see Beta again, maybe in human form?</strong></p><p>Well, I can neither confirm nor deny whether I had a long, long dinner with Scott Gimple, but that's pretty much all that I can say.</p><p><strong>OK. Well would you like to come back to this world at all?</strong></p><p>Absolutely. Absolutely. I love everything about that show. I love all the people. I love Angela. I love Nicotero. I love Norman, the cast, the crew.</p><p>You know, I had heard it so often before I started shooting season nine that there's so much love flying around that set. There's so little ego from anybody. </p><h2><strong>What's next: Ryan Hurst is filming a Hulu show called "The Mysterious Benedict Society."</strong></h2><p><strong>You and Samantha Morton really helped roar life into this show after Andy [Lincoln] left. You basically said, 'Hell, yeah. This show can carry on.' Is there anything I didn't ask you about your time on the "TWD" and what it has meant to play Beta? Or is there anything else you'd like to share?</strong></p><p>I think that's pretty much it. You know, anytime there's sort of a death of a character, it's like practicing dying in real life. You get to look back and say, what am I going to miss the most? And so the thing that I'm probably going to miss the most is just a love that was shared on that show. It's just the love that... you're ever doing a thing where there's lots of blood and lots of zombies but the sort of interconnecting thread is that everybody loves to be there and it's sort of pervasive on the set. I've never been on a set that was that communal.</p><p><strong>Now that your time, at least for the time being, is done on 'Walking Dead,' you mentioned at the start of the call, you're working on something with Disney and Hulu. Are there any other projects that you can talk about or anything that you're really excited about that's coming up.</strong></p><p>Oh, just this show for Disney I'm very, very excited for. It's called "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVLMJWS/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&amp;btkr=1kr=1">The Mysterious Benedict Society</a>" and it's based on the young adult novels and it's basically like if Wes Anderson made Willy Wonka or Wes Anderson made Harry Potter.
