Masaba made foray into acting in 2020 with the Netflix series "Masaba Masaba" and followed it up with last year's Prime Video series "Modern Love Mumbai" and the second season of her eponymous show. The 33-year-old artist said she is "unapologetically ambitious" and would like to pursue everything that interests her. "My baby is still my brand 'House of Masaba' and I spend 95 per cent of the time there and now a beauty brand as well. I am unapologetically ambitious and at the same time I have the energy, time and bandwidth, so why not do everything that I always wanted to do. "In this (acting) space, I am having a lot of fun because my day job takes care of my expenses and runs my house. Acting is my joy, passion, hobby, my get away from the profit and loss, this is the holiday from that," Masaba told PTI in an interview. She said she is keen to accept acting offers that are unique and challenging. "I am very open to whatever comes my way... And if something comes my way that I have not done before and is challenging, then I do it."  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) India has launched a fashion line called ‘<keyword id="8626839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="I-will-wear-out-plastic">I will wear out plastic</keyword>,’ which aims to phase out single use plastic in a unique way. The garments are designed by Masaba Gupta that come with built-in detachable bags. Conceptualised by Ogilvy India, this creative collection aims to use fashion trends to reduce the use of plastic. The agency has been in partnership with UNEP for the past three years. They have worked together to develop a larger platform called #BeatPlasticPollution. Under this initiative, each garment has as an exclusive accessory -- a detachable reusable bag, making a fashion statement. These bags are designed on clothes that can be worn for everyday use. It enables you ‘to wear out the problem,’ quite literally. The collection will be available in The House of Masaba stores in eight metro cities and online. To spread the word, The House of Masaba has launched a digital campaign asking a simple yet powerful question -- “Fashion brings change but can it save the world?” Masaba thinks it can. “This range is high-fashion and you are making a fashion statement. You are wearing a piece that doesn’t look like a gimmick and actually serves a purpose, which is to try and eliminate single use plastic,” explains Gupta. Roots of the idea This idea of launching a fashion line appeared in one of Ogilvy’s brainstorming sessions. The team tried to identify the problem and concluded that people use plastic because they usually don’t carry a bag along to shopping marts. They later posed a question to themselves, 'what if we had a cloth bag with us everywhere we go.' They then found a dress, took its pocket, folded a bag and tugged it inside. After a few designing sessions with Gupta, ‘I will wear out plastic’ was born. “When we presented our prototype and sketches, UNEP got really excited. They said it was simple and can be easily copied by others into a stylish garment,” shares Sukesh Nayak, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy. Expanding on what pushed them into their epiphany, Nayak adds, “When you want to bring about a behavioural change, you cannot do it in a boring way -- it has to be the most interesting. You really have to entice the person to change.” Sharing what he liked about Ogilvy’s pitch, Atul Bagai - Country Head, UNEP India said, “Addressing environmental challenges such as plastic pollution call for behavioral changes in society and it can have a huge impact when an acclaimed fashion designer like Masaba Gupta makes an environment statement through an entire clothing line.” After the agency conceptualised the idea, it went to Masaba Gupta — who is known for her bold and quirky designs — with a simple brief. “The brief that Ogilvy came to me with was simple. They said UNEP aims to cut down plastic pollution and asked if can we create a range of clothes that can be turned into a bag,” recalls Gupta. She says while the idea was exciting and she found herself tending towards it immediately, the execution and figuring out the technicalities was also a challenge. However, the bigger cause kept her going. It took nearly a year to conceptualise and bring the idea into life. Sharing what convinced her to get on-board, Gupta said, “Pollution is one of the largest environmental threats faced globally and there’s an urgent requirement and responsibility to address it. The Fashion Industry is also known to produce the most global wastage. This time, we’re using fashion as a tool for empowerment and activism. We encourage people to understand our concept and try to recreate their own permutations and combinations to take this concept forward.” Target Audience Nayak says they wanted to create something that the audience would want to copy and the benchmark is so high that it would push them to act. The campaign plays on its aspirational factor and doesn’t have a voice over. It wants to walk the talk and let the audience follow. However, the collection will be available in all The House of Masaba stores and will start from Rs 6000. This initiative is clearly targeting the metros, who can afford this price range. But both Gupta and Nayak are confident that with digital media, any idea can be copied and it won’t take much time to pick up into a trend. Media Plan While right now, a digital campaign has been released in the range of 15 seconders to 2:09 minutes ads, the plan is to keep launching Do it Yourself videos so that the idea is copied, multiplied and practised by different kinds of audience. Sharing why Gupta was okay with the idea being copied, she said, “We as a brand have fought very hard for plagiarism. But I would really encourage people out there to incorporate this collection and do it their way. They can understand how we did it and make their own permutations and combinations with it. This isn’t about plagiarism but about giving back to our environment.” As the word spreads, Nayak says the organisation also plans to use TV and Outdoor to keep the buzz going.

Ever since he exited the company he founded, Bansal has been busy investing into startups and turned into a full-time investor. In June, Bansal had sold a part of his shares in Flipkart for $76.4 million, according to filings sourced by paper.vc. Now, Bansal has a residual share of 3.52% in the company. In January 2019, Bansal closed the first round of $32 million for his VC fund called ‘021 Capital’ which he had formed with Sailesh Tulshan, his financial adviser. The former Flipkart Group CEO had raised a round from Premji Foundation also from a few former colleagues from Flipkart. Mumbai, Apr 15 () Fashion designer Masaba Gupta on Wednesday announced that she will be producing non-surgical masks as her contribution in the country's battle against the coronavirus pandemic.The Mumbai-based designer, who owns the label House of Masaba which has come to a halt amid lockdown like any other workplace, has launched the self-explanatory initiative 'Maskaba'."We thought why not do our bit by donating something that is the need of the hour - non-surgical masks. These masks are being produced at a production facility with three workers who are being completely taken care of," Masaba wrote on Instagram."The fabric which was meant for garments, is being used to produce non-surgical masks for donation that are washable and reusable," she added.The designer said we all are in this together."... and my hope is to keep my chin up by doing something for the country that promotes safety especially in times like these," Masaba said. Fashion designer Anita Dongre is also producing masks to contribute in India's fight against the deadly virus.According to the Union health ministry, the death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 377, while the number of cases in the country rose to 11,439 till 9.31 am on Wednesday. Christian Louboutin Announces a Joint Venture Partnership in India with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited

In fact, the company may also have to raise money to finance the acquisition. </li></ul>After Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL) announced a merger with TCNS Clothing over the weekend, shares of both the companies fell sharply on Monday – while TCNS tanked 20%, Aditya Birla Fashion fell 5%. As part of the transaction, ABFRL will make a conditional open offer to acquire up to 29% of TCNS at ₹503 per share from public shareholders and acquire the remaining stake from the founder promoters to reach an overall shareholding of 51% in TCNS. Post the merger, every shareholder of TCNS will receive 11 shares of ABFRL for every 6 shares held in TCNS. The acquisition could be one of the largest deals in the Indian fashion space as the value of the promoter stake and open offer consideration for TCNS is around ₹1,650 crore for 51% stake. Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman at Aditya Birla Group, said the acquisition of TCNS prepares ABFRL for the next phase of growth. “By embracing TCNS's portfolio of loved women’s ethnic brands, we are reinforcing our commitment to ethnic wear, the largest category in the apparel industry. With this acquisition, the fast-growing ABFRL platform is poised for the next phase of transformational growth.” Analysts feel merger unnecessary given TCNS Clothing’s underperformance Analysts, however, are not very positive on the merger given the fact that TCNS has been making losses for the past two financial years – despite a narrowing of losses, it is still underperforming its peers. “We are not sure why ABFRL deemed it necessary to acquire TCNS’ business, other than the fact that it immediately pushes up its revenue size by 8-10%. What ABFRL is buying is essentially ₹12-13 billion of annual revenue, given that it may need to almost entirely reconstruct the profit and loss (P&amp;L) from scratch from a profitability point of view,” said a report by JM Financial. Aditya Birla Fashion &amp; Retail will raise ₹700-800 crore in debt to help fund the acquisition of TCNS, according to an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tcns-clothing-shares-crash-19-as-aditya-birla-fashion-to-acquire-majority-stake/articleshow/100064452.cms">ET report.</a> “Unlike other mergers and acquisitions, we believe, this transaction does not need to be looked at from an earnings per share (EPS) accretion/dilution perspective or synergies. Key aspect is the fit of the brand and more importantly turnaround, given that TCNS had been lagging peers in recovery and underperforming for more than two years now. Only a successful turnaround of the same can create shareholder value,” said analysts at Nuvama Institutional Equities. TCNS is among key players in the women's ethnic wear market with brands such as W, Aurelia, Wishful and Elleven. However, analysts believe that the market remains highly crowded with a large section of unorganised players catering to highly price-conscious women consumers. “This possibly has led to a weak 2% revenue compound annual growth rate (FY19-23E) in TCNS operating at a premium pricing and &gt;65% gross margins. Therefore, we believe that TCNS’s earnings revival would be challenging and that building scale internally could have been a good alternative for ABFRL,” said a report by Motilal Oswal. ABFRL’s net debt may rise to highest in three years In the last couple of years, ABFRL has acquired brands like House of Masaba, Sabyasachi, Jaypore, Finesse International (Shantanu &amp; Nikhil) and several others. With the latest acquisition, analysts expect ABFRL’s net debt to rise to its highest level in the last three years. In fact, the company may also have to raise money to finance the acquisition. “We estimate ABFRL’s March 2023 net debt to be much higher than our initial forecasts – perhaps at its highest level in the past three years. Over and above, the company would now need to take on additional debt to finance the cash leg of the transaction, viz purchase of 51% stake for c.₹16.5 billion,” said a report by JM Financial. Some analysts say that the list of acquisitions by Aditya Birla Fashion is just burdening its portfolio with loss-making companies. “In the last few years, ABFRL has invested in multiple new businesses, with a long tail of businesses that are presently loss-making or yet to stabilise…TCNS’s acquisition may add to that long tail,” said a report by Motilal Oswal. Aditya Birla Group will hold approximately 51.9% stake in the company after this transaction. “Indian apparel industry is set for robust long-term growth due to strong fundamentals of a large and growing middle class, favourable demographics, rising disposable incomes and aspiration for brands,” said Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairperson of Aditya Birla Group. Kumar Mangalam Birla’s fashion empire raises ₹2,195 crore from Singapore’s sovereign fund

Direct to consumer is when a brand sells their products directly to consumers without selling through any third party retailers, wholesalers etc. Some of the popular D2C brands in the market are MyGlamm, Mamaearth, Wow Skin Science, BoAT, and Go Noise and the number of these brands in India has more than doubled in the last two years, according to consulting firm Bain and Company. Platforms selling D2C brands include Meesho, Tata Cliq, Myntra, Nykaa and Ajio. However, ABFRL’s business model will be similar to the New York-based e-commerce player Thrasio, which acquires small merchants and brands listed on Amazon marketplace. Thrasio has acquired more than 100 third party sellers or fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) businesses and is valued at $6 billion. Indian players like 10Club, Mensa Brands (founded by Myntra's former CEO Ananth Narayanan) and GlobalBees (founded by FirstCry founder Supam Maheshwari and Edelweiss' former executive Nitin Agarwal) have garnered the interest of investors. Notably, Mensa Brands is the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/former-myntra-ceo-started-mensa-brand-in-may-and-its-already-worth-a-billion-dollars-with/amp_articleshow/87735832.cms">youngest Indian startup</a> to be valued over a billion dollars and 10Club raised the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/bhavna-suresh-has-closed-indias-largest-seed-round-for-her-nine-month-old-startup-10club/amp_articleshow/83978841.cms">largest seed round</a> in Asia, last year. Even Thrasio is not willing to let go off this opportunity. The company will be looking to invest <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/amazon-aggregator-thrasio-will-invest-half-a-billion-dollars-in-buying-indian-brands/amp_articleshow/88894791.cms">half a billion dollars</a> in the Indian market over the next few years. The combined revenue of all D2C retailers in India was $3 billion in 2020, and is likely to be $35 billion by 2025, according to a recent report by O3 Capital. Birla will use brands like these to sell the D2C brands it acquires to sell online. Ambani’s Reliance Retail has also been making big investments in e-tail including Ajio, a six-year old online marketplace that makes a bulk of its revenue from sale of fashion clothing. Tata’s product is called Tata Cliq, which sells products from Westside, Shoppersstop and other brands.
