Padmavati, India's first female cardiologist, has passed away due to Covid-19 at the age of 103 after battling the disease for 11 days. In a statement on Sunday, O.P. Yadava, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi's National Heart Institute said: "Our very own Madam Padmavati has left us all, after her centurial terrestrial journey. She fought corona bravely but chose to move on at 11.09 p.m. on August 29. Let us keep her in our prayers forever and long." According to another statement by the National Heart Institute, also issued on Sunday, she was admitted with Covid-19 and had breathing difficulty and fever. "She developed pneumonia in both lungs and needed ventilator support. However, she sustained a cardiac arrest and passed away," it said. The noted cardiologist, also a recipient of <keyword id="9774748" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-padma-vibhushan">the Padma Vibhushan</keyword>, had set up the National Heart Institute of the All India Heart Foundation and had served as its Director and President. Later, she moved to the Maulana Azad Medical College as Director Principal and later as Consultant in Cardiology and Director at <keyword id="9855431" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-govind-ballabh-pant-hospital">the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital</keyword>. Her research work has been on rheumatic heart disease, cor pulmonale, hypertension and coronary artery disease with special reference to epidemiology and prevention. The acclaimed doctor has published extensively in prestigious journals in India and abroad. She has taught undergraduates, post-graduates and post-doctoral fellows for over 45 years. Besides being awarded <keyword id="100507" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Padma-Bhushan">Padma Bhushan</keyword> in 1967, admavati also won the Padma Vibhushan in 1992, Harvard Medical International Award in 2003, B.C. India's first female cardiologist, S. Padmavati, passes away due to COVID-19

India will celebrate its <keyword id="2027916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="65th-Republic-Day">65th Republic Day</keyword> on <keyword id="4079791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="January-26">January 26</keyword> – a long journey since the world’s biggest democracy gained her <keyword id="1275353" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="political-independence">political independence</keyword> on 15 August, 1947, and then successfully prepared one of the most voluminous and versatile Constitutions of the world. <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> or <keyword id="97752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="R-Day">R-Day</keyword> celebrates the date when the Constitution of India came into force – 26 January, 1950 – replacing the <keyword id="196690" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-of-India-Act">Government of India Act</keyword> (1935) as the governing document of the country. 
 A <keyword id="92714" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="draft-constitution">draft Constitution</keyword> was initially prepared by the <keyword id="2027910" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Constitution-Drafting-Committee">Constitution Drafting Committee</keyword>, led by Dr <keyword id="116616" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BR-Ambedkar">BR Ambedkar</keyword>. The first version was submitted to the <keyword id="99585" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Constituent-Assembly">Constituent Assembly</keyword> on November 4, 1947. But it took nearly three years of extensive debate, deliberations and moderations before the final document could be freezed. The Constitution was passed in the Constituent Assembly on 26 November, 1949, and was adopted on 26 January, 1950, commemorating the day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was made by the <keyword id="190679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-National-Congress">Indian National Congress</keyword>. 
 But so much for history. Fast forward to 2014 and take a look at the key <keyword id="6421547" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="amendments">amendments</keyword> made to the <keyword id="99432" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-constitution">Indian Constitution</keyword> and how it impacted the country. A week after <keyword id="6356054" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tripura">Tripura</keyword> was declared novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> free, two Border Security Force jawans were tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said. Deb, who also holds the Health and Home Departments, said in a tweet: "Two persons from Ambassa (northern Tripura's Dhalai District) <keyword id="40481" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSF">BSF</keyword> unit found COVID-19 positive. Total positive cases in Tripura stands at four (two already discharged, so active hospital cases two)." A senior BSF officer told IANS that one of the two infected persons belongs to Assam and he has been suffering from some ailments after he returned to Tripura from his home state on March 11. "The ailing jawan and his attending colleague have tested positive for coronavirus at the (Tripura government runs) Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital (in Agartala)," the officer said, refusing to be named. With the recovery of the second patient, a 32-year-old Tripura State Rifles jawan and a resident of Uttar Pradesh, on April 25, the Tripura government had declared the northeastern state as novel coronavirus free. The state's first patient (a 45-year-old woman tested positive for the virus on April 6 after she returned from Assam by train) has already recovered and was discharged on April 15.

Tripura's coronavirus free tag is gone as two BSF jawans test positive

New Delhi, Jul 15 () The National Green Tribunal Wednesday directed a petitioner, seeking closure and cancellation of environmental clearance to Reliance Power's Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli area, to approach a monitoring committee on the issue. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said a committee comprising representative of Environment Ministry, Central Pollution Control Board, Singrauli District Collector and State Pollution Control Board has already been constituted. "In view of above, it will be appropriate that this matter is heard with the pending matter which will stand transferred to the Principal Bench and now listed on December 2. The applicant is at liberty to represent his viewpoint to the said committee through the state pollution control board," the bench said. The plea filed by advocate Ashwani Kumar Dubey sought closure and cancellation of environmental clearance of the power project for deliberately throwing industrial waste in the Rihand reservoir. It referred to an incident of April 10, 2020 in which the ash dyke of the project was breached due to the "negligent act" of the unit. The plea claimed that due to the breach, fly ash spread all over the agricultural land and allegedly resulted in the death of six innocent villagers (including 3 minor children) and cattle was swept away with the ash slurry in the "Rihand Reservoir". Dubey alleged that the breach has led to excessive fluoride concentration in the water, causing tumours and other health hazardous to the residents in the vicinity. District officials had said the sludge has affected crops spread over an area of 25 acre. The plea has sought removal of all industrial waste from the water bodies, villages, drinking wells, agricultural fields and from the reservoir, also known as Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. It has sought NGT's intervention to formulate requisite guidelines and to secure proper checks and balance with respect to dumping of industrial waste by the industries in the area. In a similar incident on October 6, 2019, ash dyke of NTPC Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station in Singrauli was breached and more than 35 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash got into the Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar ''Rihand Reservoir''. (Eds: Adding inputs) New Delhi, Oct 5 () The national capital recorded 32 COVID-19 fatalities on Monday taking the death toll to 5,542, while 1,947 fresh cases took the tally to over 2.92 lakh, authorities said. The relatively low number of fresh cases came out of the 35,593 tests conducted on Sunday. On weekdays, the average number of tests conducted ranges between 50,000 to 55,000. Thirty-two new fatalities have been recorded, taking the death toll to 5,542, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. The tally of active cases on Monday stood at 23,080. The bulletin said the total number of cases has climbed to 2,92,560. The positivity rate on Monday stood at 5.47 per cent while the recovery rate crossed 90 per cent, the bulletin said, adding that the case fatality rate stood at 1.89 per cent. Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday held meeting with medical directors and medical superintendents of all Delhi government hospitals to review the status of testing. Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev also held a review meeting with all district magistrates on COVID-19 management. The number of containment zones in Delhi jumped to 2,707 from 2,696 on Sunday. Delhi government has significantly ramped up testing in the past few days, with the count on several occasions crossing the 60,000-mark. The number of Rapid Antigen Tests conducted on Sunday stood at 28,008 while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT tests figures were 7,585, in all adding to 35,593, according to the bulletin. The number of tests done per million, as on Monday, was over 1.74 lakh while the total number of tests stood at over 33 lakh. The bulletin said that 2,63,938 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far. Since September, daily cases had begun to rise in the city. From the last week of September, it has started to come down a bit. According to the bulletin, out of the total number of 15,832 beds in COVID hospitals, 10,030 are vacant. It said 774 beds in COVID care centres are occupied by persons under quarantine, including travellers who have returned by Vande Bharat Mission and bubble flights. The number of people in home isolation dropped to 13,905 on Monday compared to 14,700 the previous day. Meanwhile, Lt Governor Anil Baijal has with immediate effect appointed of Sanjay Aggarwal and Rajiv Kumar Gupta as the medical superintendents of GIPMER (Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education &amp; Research) and GGSGH (Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital), according to an order issued on Monday by the Delhi health department. In addition to this,we would also provide jobs to the next of kins," he toldreporters here.Asked about reports of nurses at GB Pant Hospital andKailashahar District Hospital in Unakoti district allegingshortage of protective equipment, Deb said there was enoughstock of PPEs in hospitals."The health secretary and other officials areauthorised to speak to the media. We have sufficient PPE,gloves, sanitisers and masks in stock.
