The company said in a statement that customers will not be able to make <keyword id="19916663" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bookings" source="keywords">bookings</keyword> with Vistara for travel on or after November 12. "Starting 03 September 2024, customers will, progressively, no longer be able to make bookings with Vistara for travel on or after 12 November 2024," the company said. However, Vistara will continue to take bookings and operate flights as usual till 11 November 2024. All Vistara aircraft will be operated by Air India and bookings for the routes operated by these aircraft will be redirected to Air India's website, the company informed. During this transition period, both Vistara and Air India will ensure necessary support, consistent communication, and convenience to all customers, every step of the way. Vistara-Air India merger: Bookings for Vistara to stop from Sept 3, unified operations start from Nov 12

New Delhi, <keyword id="175577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="commercial-pilot-license" source="Orion">Commercial pilot license</keyword>s will now be valid for ten years, with the government amending rules as part of efforts to further improve ease of doing business in the aviation sector. Till now, the validity of Commercial Pilot License (CPL) was for five years and after completion of that period, it had to be renewed. The civil aviation ministry amended the Aircraft Rules, 1937. Among various changes made, the validity of licenses in relation to Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and CPL holders has been increased from five years to ten years. "This change is expected to reduce administrative burden on pilots and aviation authorities like DGCA, promoting a more streamlined and efficient licensing process," the ministry said in a statement on Monday. Besides, rules have been amended to address concerns related to the display of lights in the vicinity of an aerodrome. It has also been clarified that the term 'light' encompasses lantern lights, wish kites, and laser lights. Also, the government's jurisdiction over those exhibiting such lights has been extended from 5 kilometres to 5 nautical miles around an aerodrome. "It is made explicit that the government possesses the authority to take action against individuals displaying lights that disrupt the safe operation of aircraft or pose hazards to the operating crew. "Should such lights remain unattended for 24 hours, the government is empowered to enter the location and extinguish them," the ministry said. Simultaneously, the matter should be reported to the relevant police station for legal action under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). When the source of the observed light is unidentifiable or if it shifts locations, the airport or airline operator is obligated to promptly report the incident to the local police station, initiating potential criminal proceedings. Another amendment is that the requirement for validation of foreign licenses has been removed. "This change signifies aligning the regulations with the evolving needs of the aviation sector," the ministry said. Further, the requirements related to continued competence for <keyword id="6414849" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="air-traffic-controller" source="Orion">Air Traffic Controller</keyword> (ATC) license holders have been liberalised. According to the ministry, this change offers increased flexibility to accommodate situations with limited movements or watch hours. ATC license holders must complete a minimum of ten hours of simulated exercises, including emergencies. Subsequently, they must undergo a skill assessment for their respective rating within ten consecutive days of commencing these exercises, it said. The ministry said the amendments to the Aircraft Rules, 1937, notified on October 10, mark a crucial shift in promoting ease of doing business and ensuring safety and security within the aviation sector. India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Airlines are expanding their aircraft fleet and will be hiring more pilots to cater to rising air traffic demand.

FAA says unruly passengers will be stripped of their TSA PreCheck privileges

If all goes well, you would soon be relieved of too many formalities at Indian airports. Paper boarding pass and paper handbag tags might soon be done away with. The aviation security regulator has decided to annul a 1982 rule that made it compulsory for airlines to keep a part to keep records of how many passengers boarded a flight. 
 In place of paper passes, there would be electronic <keyword id="6746273" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="boarding-passes">boarding passes</keyword>. To believe a senior official working with the <keyword id="6385923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bureau-of-Civil-Aviation-Security">Bureau of Civil Aviation Security</keyword> (BCAS), the final decision is likely to be announced early next month. In sync with PM Modi’s ‘<keyword id="1929810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword>’ initiative, the passengers would need to flash the image of boarding pass on mobile phone at all clearance gates. For people without a smartphone, there would be an alternative for paper boarding pass. 
 "This rule (on paper boarding pass) is not relevant today because airports have computers and the passes are scanned anyway and that gives a sense on the number of people who have boarded the flight," the official told <keyword id="77091" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Economic-Times">The Economic Times</keyword>. "Tearing a part of the boarding pass is not required anymore. The authorities have agreed and soon the requirement will be withdrawn." <keyword id="114800" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajiv-Gandhi-International-airport">Rajiv Gandhi International Airport</keyword> in Hyderabad already has the process of e-boarding pass and the other airports may take it as example. Also there would be no need to get handbag tags for cabin luggage, which is till date mandatory. The <keyword id="100364" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Industrial-Security-Force">Central Industrial Security Force</keyword>, which is in charge of security at airports did protest to the move earlier but have now agreed sighting convenience to the passengers. 
 
Not just these. The aviation ministry is set to bring other reforms as well. Among which the most important is extending validity of entry passes (AEPs) for airline and airport executives. As of now, the authorities need to re-issue the entry passes every year, which is quite annoying. With biometric scan, this would be quite easy and secured.

You may no longer have to put tags on your cabin bags and get them stamped at the security check point as the government is planning to do away with the process, in-line with the international practice followed at airports abroad. 
 In this regard, the Civil Aviation Ministry has asked the <keyword id="6385923" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bureau-of-Civil-Aviation-Security">Bureau of Civil Aviation Security</keyword> (BCAS) to form a panel to review cabin baggage tags and submit a report in four weeks. 
 
"The good thing about the aviation secretary is that he works with timelines. He has given BCAS four weeks to decide on the abolition of cabin baggage tags across India," a senior executive of an airline told ET, adding “This issue is being discussed for long and despite a consensus on its abolition, we have not been able to abolish it." 
 
Presently, all passengers carrying cabin baggage have to tie a tag to it and get it stamped at security check before boarding a flight. 
 
But, few experts suggest there is no way a bag can enter the secure zone without being checked. 
 "Aviation security is 99% preventive that happens on the ground and 1% intervention, which happens in the air. This rule was brought in to ensure that only secured cleared items enter the airside and this surely lets one feel secure. I would not be in favour of its abolition. But if it goes, it should be replaced with a system that looks at the principle of prevention on the ground," Shakti Lumba, former head of operations at IndiGo and <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword>, told ET. 
 Meanwhile, the aviation ministry has asked the <keyword id="95924" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Traffic-Control">Air Traffic Control</keyword> to improve air traffic management at airports, especially at Delhi and Mumbai.

Cabin baggage tags will soon become a thing of the past

New Delhi, Dec 30 () Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday that the central government was issuing too many airport entry permits (AEPs) and it was time to restrict certain parts such as the baggage area to a specific set of AEP-holders.
 "The fact is that we are issuing too many airport passes...I can understand that the airport access is wanted by tourist operators and so and so," said Puri, while launching the biometric-based AEP system on Monday. 
 "I also understand that if you suddenly curtail this you have a problem on your hands because those people say that tourism industry is already moribund and you are putting more restrictions," he added. 
 Currently, around 2 lakh employees of various stakeholders -- airlines, ground handling agencies, food chain operators, etc -- have AEP passes who move in &amp; out of the airport on a daily basis.
 Covering 43 airports of AAI and five joint venture airports at present, the biometric-enabled Centralised Access Control System (CACS) project will digitise the employee movement process.
 Till date, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) - which works under the Civil Aviation Ministry - has been issuing laminated paper based AEP at the 48 airports.
 The minister said, "I am not saying that they (tourist operators, etc) should be stopped. But even amongst them, how many people do you want at the airport to be?"
 "I think we should, in a subsequent phase, start looking at some areas of the airport - especially where baggage handling is done and other things are done - it should not be open to anybody walking in," he added.
 Puri also launched the 'e-BCAS Project: Training Module' aimed at helping more than 1.5 lakh employees of various stakeholders by migrating from manual process of training to digital platform.
 All 29 Aviation Security Training Institutes (ASTIs) - most of them are run by Indian airline companies - have been registered as user entities and they can make nominations for various courses online under e-BCAS project.
