The <a href="https://www.voltfunds.com/etfs/vcar-robocar-disruption-etf">Volt RoboCar Disruption and Tech exchange-traded fund</a> surged by 36% in October, making it one of the best-performing funds in the US, said the WSJ in a report published Tuesday.The ETF last month easily outperformed the Russell 1000 Growth Index, which gained 8.6% in October. It also did better than the vast majority of funds focused on growth stocks, as just 9% of those beat the Russell 1000 Growth Index last month, marking the lowest monthly hit rate since July 2002, according to the report. Billed as the first Tesla options ETF "for the robotaxi future," the fund's performance was heavily directed by the roughly 40% allocation to Tesla through its stock and long-dated call options. Tad Park, founder and CEO of Volt Equity, told the newspaper that the Volt RoboCar Disruption and Tech ETF has more exposure to Tesla than any other ETF on the market. The fund trades under the symbol VCAR. "We really focus on trying to pick winners and concentrate heavily on our conviction," Park told WSJ. "Not what the P/E ratio was."His bullishness on Tesla stock stems from the likelihood the company will be the first to market autonomous cars, he added.Park's outperformance last month coincided with a big run for Tesla stock. The company <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/tesla-stock-options-bets-rally-1-trillion-market-capitalization-markets-10-2021">surpassed $1 trillion in valuation</a> as shares surged by more than 20% in the last week of October. A YouTube spokesperson told Insider the video violated the site's guidelines related to content that endangers minors."YouTube doesn't allow content showing a minor participating in dangerous activities or encouraging minors to do dangerous activities," the spokesperson said. Both times the vehicle either comes to a stop or slows and moves around his son.Cupani told Insider he took "all safety steps necessary to keep everyone uninjured and alive" and the test was "performed by a professional driving instructor and future technology expert."The video has not been removed by YouTube.Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-17/don-t-use-your-kids-to-test-tesla-s-safety-features-nhtsa-warns?sref=LspfQlRv">issued a statement</a> to Bloomberg warning drivers that testing out the beta software on kids could have dire consequences."No one should risk their life, or the life of anyone else, to test the performance of vehicle technology," NHTSA said in a statement to Bloomberg. "Consumers should never attempt to create their own test scenarios or use real people, and especially children, to test the performance of vehicle technology."The NHTSA told the publication it has been testing Tesla's software for several months. Qazi said he was eager to disprove the results of O'Dowd's test and show that he was "lying about life-saving technology." Tad Park, CEO of Volte Equity, brought two of his kids along for the test with Qazi at a residential street."I'm confident that I can trust FSD with my kids and I'm also in control of the wheel so I can brake at any time," Park said in the video.In one test, Park's daughter stood in the middle of the road and Tesla FSD appeared to recognize the child from a stand-still about three car-lengths away. In the video, the car moved forward at a five miles per hour pace and stopped, refusing to go forward until the child was moved out of its trajectory.Park performed a similar test with his five-year-old son. The boy walked across the street as the Tesla came toward him from the same distance at less than 10 miles per hour. The Tesla appeared to slow down until after the child had crossed the street."It was a little nerve-wracking in the beginning, but I knew that it was going to detect and stop," Park said in the video. "I think it's very important for this to be out there. I think it will save a lot of kids' lives."The video features multiple tests that show the software recognizing a dummy as well as an adult male in the middle of the road. Though, the test is never performed at a speed greater than about 20 miles per hour. For comparison, the test Qazi criticizes was performed at a speed of 40 miles per hour from a distance of 120 yards.Qazi is not the first Tesla fan to try to replicate the test. Matthew DeBord/Business InsiderLet's have a new one!Tesla is poised to have a very big 2017.Apart from the carmaker's surging $50-billion market capitalization, which on the back of a $300-plus-share price has vaulted the company's valuation above Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Ford, Tesla aims to launch its mass-market Model 3 in the next few months.The automaker is also bringing its Gigafactory online in Nevada, preparing for the launch of its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-solar-roof-solar-city-features-2017-2" target="_blank">solar-roof product</a>, and expanding its Tesla energy business. All eyes will be on the Model 3, which is slated to be priced at $35,000 before incentives and come with a range of at least 215 miles on a single charge. But Tesla will also introduce an electric, possibly self-driving semi truck in September. CEO Elon Musk says a pickup will follow in 18-24 months.That's a lot, but for true Tesla lovers, the really exciting news is that Tesla will <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-said-tesla-will-build-next-generation-roadster-in-few-years-2017-3" target="_blank">most likely commit to a new Roadster </a>- a convertible sports car that will take the automaker back to its roots. It sexy, thrilling, go-fast-with-all-electric-style roots.I've always been an unabashed fan of the Roadster. I've driven all of Tesla's vehicles, but the Roadster is the one that really grabs me: it did the first time around and again <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/i-drove-my-first-tesla-six-years-ago-and-i-just-drove-the-same-car-again-2016-5">just over a year ago when we got reacquainted</a>. <h2>Awkward love</h2>My Roadster love is awkward of course because the car wasn't a proper Tesla, unlike the clean-sheet designs of the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV. The Roadster was built from vehicle "sleds" created by England's Lotus, which were then finished by Tesla in California and outfitted with Tesla's electric battery packs and drivetrains. That said, the Lotus chassis combined with Tesla's tech was a juicy combination. The Roadster Sport, the final version of the vehicle that was produced before Lotus stopped supplying platforms and Tesla shifted to focusing on the Model S, was blisteringly fast (0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds) and a kick to drive. It lacked much in the way of in-vehicle tech, the steering was precise but heavy, there was barely room for two people and a tote bag, and the ride was pretty stiff. But sweet lord was it ever fun!"Speed" and "Tesla" have always been two great tastes that go great together. It was with the fast Roadster that Tesla effectively rebranded the whole idea of the electric-car-as-glorified-golf-cart - and wound velocity in the company's DNA. Ever since the Roadster, Tesla's have been fast. The P100D Model S is, by 0-60 mph time (2.3 seconds), the fastest production vehicle in the world. And it has four doors and two trunks.Mark Ralston/AFPFast. But ... four doors.The Model X is also quick, but it's an SUV. And frankly, there are plenty of us still out here who want our fast cars to be fast sports cars that look like sports cars.That's why the time has more than come for the new Roadster - or whatever Tesla wants to call it, as long as it has two doors and seating for only a pair of people. A sports car isn't supposed to be practical. That's the entire point.<h2>Not what Silicon Valley wants</h2>I will admit that a super sexy Tesla sports car isn't exactly what Silicon Valley is calling for right now. Between <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=2&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiPpNHb37PTAhUDRCYKHdVHCdQQFggqMAE&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.businessinsider.com%2Fgoogle-driverless-car-history-photos-2016-10&amp;usg=AFQjCNEFmMlnM71m4umHlf3QPTKEaPA3-A" target="_blank">Google's self-driving podmobiles</a>, whatever Apple might be up to, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/uber-self-driving-volvo-suv-san-francisco-2016-12" target="_blank">Uber's autonomous taxi fleet</a>, the action now appears to be with incredibly boring platforms that are more about riding than driving. Tesla is also getting a little too psyched about semi-trucks and pickups. These are cool vehicles, but they aren't Ferraris or Lamborghinis. It bears pointing out that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-the-supercar-elon-musk-wanted-to-match-with-the-tesla-d-2014-11">Musk was once the owner of a McLaren F1 hypercar</a>, so we have a sense of where his heart might be when it comes to cars. I sort of wonder if he's ever even driven a truck.Not that a Tesla supercar would edge out the pickups. Tesla will probably produce something on the order of 100,000 vehicles in 2017 and maybe twice that in 2018 (although Musk is pushing for 500,000). There's probably a market for a few thousand sports cars with the Tesla badge. Satisfying anyone who wants one wouldn't be a mighty lift. Just think of the bumper stickers on the Model X's: "My other, sexier car is a Tesla, too."<h2>Make it wild</h2>Hollis JohnsonNow that's what I'm talking about - the Ferrari 488 GTB.The great thing about Tesla is that its vision of a fossil-fuel-free transportation future has never been so virtuous that it excludes the breathtaking experience of zipping into a corner at high speed and coming out just as fast. Musk always knew this, but in recent years, as the Roadster has receded into fond memory, it's been less of a Tesla priority. That takes nothing away from Ludicrous Mode performance in Tesla's current cars. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-ludicrous-mode-experience-2016-8">But as I've noted, Ludicrous gets old fast in a family sedan</a>.I'd personally like to see Tesla do something wild with a new sports car. Something flamboyant and supercar-ish. Spoilers and needless hood scoops and air dams and such. Make a fast car that really looks fast. Make it a tad tasteless. Make it something that would look defiant when parked next to a Ferrari or a Lambo.But even if that doesn't happen, I welcome whatever does. As will the many, many Tesla fans who've been waiting for a new Roadster. Tesla fans are about to get what they really want from the company

Self-driving cars are coming sooner than you expect, but&#xa0;they're not going to be as futuristic and crazy as you expect.&#xa0;At least not at first.&#xa0;
I'm in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), an annual gathering of all the major technology companies in the world. There are plenty of automobile companies, as well. We've spotted BMW, Ford, Audi, and many others.&#xa0;
I got a demo of a car that can drive itself from Valeo, an autoparts supplier.&#xa0;
This was my first time being in a car that could drive itself. I was excited. I was stepping into the car of the future! The world would never be the same for me. This was a moment to savor, to tell my son, and his son, and his son, and his son. (I'm assuming <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-is-launching-a-company-that-hopes-to-cure-death-2013-9">Google figures out how to cure death</a>, so I can tell this story over and over to future generations. By the fourth telling, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-wants-to-build-a-city-on-mars-2014-9">I should be on Mars</a>.)
So, what was it like? A tad underwhelming, but that's probably because&#xa0;I sat in the back of the car. However, it gave me a glimpse of what is certain to be a glorious future.
There was a driver, and he just took his hands off the wheel, saying he was no longer operating the gas or the brake pedal. The car stopped at traffic lights, then accelerated when the light changed. When other cars slowed down, the car slowed down.&#xa0;
Valeo's self-driving car technology is not as advanced as what Google talks about with its cars. Google's cars are fully autonomous, allowing themselves to make all the turns needed to get you where you're going.
Valeo's technology is more like a glorified cruise control. It can handle straight driving on the highway, or in traffic of a town like Las Vegas.
While that might not sound terribly impressive, it's quite practical.
Long drives on the highway can be boring. Using Valeo's technology will allow people to do other, small things safely. They can check text messages, or read email if the car is in auto driving mode.
Or, even better, in traffic jams, people can turn on their auto-driving mode and do whatever else they want on their phones.&#xa0;
Guillaume Devauchelle, an executive at Valeo who sat in the back of the car with me, says this technology will be available in five years. He says you won't have to worry about driving your own car in traffic jams in five years. (Though, he did warn that places like Mumbai might not be ready for this technology since they're a bit funky.)
Devauchelle also said the Valeo technology is fairly inexpensive: only a few hundred dollars. He said that if I see other automated cars, I should ask how much all their sensors will cost, suggesting they will be very expensive.&#xa0;
I don't know if Valeo's technology is all that great. It worked fine in the car I was in. It's possible there's a better supplier out there. Maybe Googles software, or Audi's software, or Ford's software, or whoever, is better. I don't know.&#xa0;
However, the fact that this exists is promising.
When people talk about self-driving cars, they tend to view it as all-or-nothing. Either Google will take over your car and create a fully autonomous vehicle that gets you from point A to point B, or not. In reality, there will be small steps that get us to this point.&#xa0;
What Valeo demonstrated is a starting point. Long, boring drives will be less boring if the car is in auto pilot. And as we get more comfortable with our cars going down the highway on auto pilot, we'll get more comfortable with them doing more autonomous driving. In the future, they'll be able to do other things, like park themselves (Tesla's dual-motor Model S can already do that, actually).&#xa0;
I don't know if we'll ever have totally autonomous driving. My guess is that we won't, since the world is very complicated with ever-changing factors that can throw off a car. However, cars that can make gridlock less terrible? That's happening, and it's happening in the near future.
