In the last one year, due to pandemic and remote working scenarios across the world, investors spotted an opportunity in this space, which is why shares of the Bengaluru-based broadband service provider jumped 625% in the last one year. This shows the vast opportunities in the internet services for such players. Also, Tejas supplies products to the Government of India's BharatNet project to provide broadband internet to all of India's gram panchayats and has helped connect 40,000 villages so far. 5G rollout awards strong orders to Tejas Networks The government’s plan to roll out 5G in the country brought visibility to the company’s services as Tata Sons approached stake in the company this year. In July, Tata Sons subsidiary Panatone Finvest said it will buy 69% stake in the company through an investment of ₹1,884 crore. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div> The company will utilise the capital infusion by Tata Sons to invest in research and development, sales and marketing, people, infrastructure and to enhance its manufacturing and operational capabilities to cater to this large market opportunity, and for other general corporate purposes. Tejas Networks sees a very large opportunity in the telecom sector both in India and global markets with the new cycle of investments in 5G and fiber-based broadband rollouts. Moreover, telecom operator Bharti Airtel has selected the telecom equipment maker to expand its optical network capacity in key metropolitan markets.Bharti Airtel has been expanding its network capacity as part of its 5G readiness while catering to increasing data consumption by consumers. Analysts expect strong future growth for the company because of a good order book and continuing demand for broadband services. “Strong order book of ₹6.79 billion provides revenue visibility for calendar year 2022,” said a report by Axis Capital. “Q4 (Jan-Mar 2021) revenue was a positive surprise as it picked up better than expectations. Revenue may remain lumpy in the initial quarter of FY22 due to COVID impact and muted government business. However, we expect it to pick up during the year, as international business gains momentum post COVID. Company also stands to benefit from demand from home and office broadband, metro capacity expansion, network modernization and critical infrastructure,” added the report. Approval in <keyword id="53367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pli" source="Orion">PLI</keyword> scheme to add wings to the company While, the government is trying to promote local manufacturing of telecom gear through the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, companies like Tejas Networks, Sterlite Technologies etc., stand to be beneficiaries. <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/tata-takes-tejas-stake-for-telecom-gear-foray-11627584389079.html">Reportedly</a>, curbs on Chinese vendors such as Huawei in India and many developed countries, including the US, UK and the European Union, over security concerns, have opened the door wider for firms such as Tejas to win business for cost-efficient equipment and software solutions. Tejas has applied for a PLI application under the telecom equipment category, the company mentioned in its latest investor call. The government has so far approved a ₹12,195-crore PLI scheme for telecom gear manufacturing in India. The PLI scheme for telecom gear will cover manufacturing of equipment such as core transmission products, 4G, 5G radio access network and other wireless gear. Under the PLI scheme for telecom equipment, the government will give 4-6 per cent incentive to eligible companies on incremental sales of manufactured goods for five years. New Delhi, Jan 21 () Domestic telecom gear maker Tejas Networks on Tuesday posted a consolidated loss of Rs 112.06 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, mainly on account of dip in sales.
 The company had posted a profit of Rs 32.84 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
 Its total income from sales reduced to less than half at Rs 92.85 crore during the reported quarter, from Rs 193.63 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2018-19.
 Shares of Tejas Networks on Tuesday closed at Rs 90.2 apiece on the BSE, up 1.23 per cent compared to the previous close. PRS HRS

Tejas Networks posts loss of Rs 112 cr in Dec quarter

State-owned <keyword id="19970536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSNL" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BSNL" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BSNL">BSNL</keyword> will start rolling out <keyword id="21279641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="4G-services" source="keywords">4G services</keyword> across the country from August, using completely indigenous technology in line with the government's "Atmanirbhar" policy, according to official sources. BSNL officials claimed to have recorded peak speed of 40-45 megabit per second on the 4G network which has been rolled out in the premium spectrum band of 700 megahertz (Mhz) as well as in 2,100 Mhz band during the pilot phase. The company has rolled out 4G services in Punjab using indigenously developed technology by IT company TCS and state-run telecom research organisation C-DoT-led consortium and onboarded around 8 lakh subscribers. "The 4G core developed by C-DoT is performing very well in the BSNL network in Punjab. It was installed in July last year. It takes 12 month to prove the success of such complex technology but the C-DoT core has stabilised within 10 months. BSNL will launch atmanirbhar 4G technology across the country in August," a senior government official, who did not wish to be named, told PTI. The core network is a collection of network hardware, devices, and software that provides fundamental services in a telecommunication network. Telecom regulator <keyword id="19942079" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trai" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Trai" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Trai">Trai</keyword> in a recent paper explained core as part of a network that offers the functionality of aggregation, call control, switching, authentication, charging, gateway functionality, etc. TCS, Tejas Networks and government-owned ITI have bagged orders worth about Rs 19,000 crore from BSNL for deploying 4G network which is upgradable to 5G. In a recent earnings call, Tejas Networks Executive Director and chief operating officer Arnob Roy said BSNL's mobile network is getting deployed across zones. He said that wherever the C-DOT core is not available on the BSNL network, the equipment is getting integrated to the existing core. "When the C-DOT core gets deployed in those circles, in those zones, they will get parented to the C-DOT core as well. Tejas Networks Limited. This is just a temporary situation where the RAN (radio access network) is deployed and in that zone, the core is not available," Roy said. BSNL is in the process of deploying 1.12 lakh towers for 4G and <keyword id="20041753" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-services" source="keywords">5G services</keyword> across India. "The company has installed over 9,000 towers for 4G service across the country, out of which more than 6,000 are active in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, UP West and Haryana circle. BSNL has been selling 4G capable SIM only for the last 4-5 years. Only those customers who have older SIM will need to get new SIM to experience the service," a BSNL official said. BSNL to launch 4G services across India in August; to use indigenous technology

New Delhi, May 16 () Domestic telecom gear makers expect the government to clear their dues pending with state-owned telecom firms and come out with provisions to push home grown equipment in the networks, industry body TEMA said in a statement on Saturday.Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association - which represents indigenous companies like Vihaan Networks, and Tejas Networks, among others - also requested for clarity on the government push for procurement from domestic vendors through public tender of up to Rs 200 crore.TEMA Chairman Emeritus NK Goyal said that it is beyond doubt that the COVID days have shown that the telecom sector has been at forefront for providing connectivity to all citizens in India.The chairman expects that the next package from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may come for the telecom, electronics, and ICT sectors."This sector is looking forward for package tomorrow in terms of specific enforcement of indigenously designed development and manufactured equipment, keeping in view of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat" mission of our Hon'ble PM," Goyal said.The association expects the government to act for clearing about Rs 20,000 vendor dues pending with BSNL and MTNL as well as other telecom public sector firms."Another issue facing the telecom, ICT sector is large amounts of pending payments from BSNL,MTNL and other telecom PSUs and we hope that soon there will be policy guidelines for release of all pending payments," Goyal said.The body suggested that the telecom sector also looks forward for some relief to telecom service providers in terms of adjusted gross revenue, spectrum charges, licence and other fees and incentives to private operators that can be used for procurement of indigenously designed developed and manufactured telecom equipment."Lastly, while we talk of latest technologies of 4G,5G or may be 6G, but let us also appreciate that substantial part of our India specially in hills, NE, LWE, Aspirational Districts, rural areas etc. still remains uncovered and we hope at least 2G for them urgently," Goyal said.TEMA lauded the government decision to increase FDI in defence sector from 49 to 74 per cent and other reforms announced for Make-in-India for the sector, and level playing field for private companies in satellite launches, space-based services and use of ISRO facilities to the private sector.Indian space startup Pixxel said the government announcement to open up the space sector for private industry can go a long way in saving unnecessary costs and making the industry more competitive."This will also mean that a lot of space grade material manufacturing processes, that are not in the country right now such as multilayer thermal insulations, solar panels and batteries that were majorly procured from abroad will now see localisation due to the emergence of more domestic space firms," Pixxel founder and CEO Awais Ahmed said.He said that the announcement on future projects for planetary exploration is very important towards building India's very own Maxars, SpaceXs and Rocket Labs. Telecom gear makers expect govt to clear BSNL, MTNL dues

India wants to be an early adopter of the fifth generation of wireless networks-the 5G, which will allow consumers to connect with billions of devices like driverless cars and household appliances apart from getting great speed. 
 
In a bid to fulfil its 5G dreams, a government commissioned-research team has already started working on the 5G technology and 10 out of 100 patents have been granted. 
 
It is expected that 5G will be commercially rolled out by 2020. 
 
A team of researchers from IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras and CEWiT (Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology, IIT Madras) are working on the same and will register a lot more patents in the next few years. Most of these patents have been filed simultaneously in the US and in India. 
 
"We are scaling up fast and switching gears because 5G is just around the corner,” Kiran Kuchi, a professor at the department of electrical engineering at the IIT-Hyderabad, told ET. 
 Even private players such as <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>, <keyword id="6359475" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Teleservices">Tata Teleservices</keyword> and Tejas Networks are partnering in the effort by lending their manpower and equipment. 
 
"This is the first time that India has contributed at this level on the global stage. This is a coherent, long-term and a result-oriented project. The fact that we are trying to take so many patents into the global 5G standards will benefit the Indian industry hugely,” said Kuchi. 
 
The research project, which was commissioned by the ministry of electronics and IT, was approved in September 2015 with an outlay of Rs. 36.51crore over a period of three years. 
 
IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said the research team will also jointly develop advanced simulators and technology prototypes and the IP developed in this project will be contributed for 5G standardisation. 
 
Recently, China also hinted at its ambitious 5G plans and rolled out trials.

The IPO lane is getting busy as companies have lined up initial public offerings worth Rs 20,000 crore in the coming months to fund their business expansion and meworking capital requirements, according to a news report by PTI. 
 
The year 2016 saw 26 companies collectively raising over Rs 26,000 crore trough their respective IPOs, making it the best in six years. 
 
Hudco, NSE, Central Depository Services Ltd, Nakshatra World and Cochin Shipyard are among the names that plan to launch share-sale offers in coming months. 
 
Most of these companies plan to utilise initial public offer (IPO) proceeds for business expansion as well as working capital requirements. 
 
Besides, the firms are taking IPO route to achieve benefits of listing the equity shares on the bourses. 
 
Some of the firms believe the listing of the equity shares will enhance their brand name and provide liquidity to the existing shareholders. 
 
At present, five companies -- Hudco, Central Depository Services Ltd, S Chand and Company, Genesis Colors and Security &amp; Intelligence Services (India) Ltd -- have secured Sebi's go-ahead to float their respective public offers. 
 
In addition, 11 companies including GTPL Hathway, NSE, Bharat Road Network, Tejas Networks, Eris Lifesciences, Salasar Techno Engineering, Au Financiers, Prataap Snacks, PSP Projects are awaiting the regulator's approval to float IPOs. 
 
Together, these companies are expected to raise about Rs Rs 20,000 crore. 
 
Moreover, companies like SBI Life Insurance are expected to file IPO papers in the near future. 
 
Besides, five companies including leading bourse BSE and Avenue Supermarts, the operator of retail chain D-Mart, have already hit the Dalal Street this year so far. 
 
NSE's IPO will see existing shareholders offloading 20-25 per cent shares to the public through the OFS route. 
 
It is expected to be one of the biggest in recent times, with an estimated size of over Rs 10,000 crore, sources said. 
According to experts, the IPO market is expected to see some activity this year as half a dozen companies have filed their draft papers with Sebi in 2017 so far to launch public offers and many are awaiting the regulator's nod. 
 
Also, proactive regulatory environment coupled with general uplift in investor sentiment has helped the IPO market. 
 
Market watchdog Sebi has taken numerous steps that are encouraging companies to sell shares. One key enabler was making Asba (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) mandatory for all investors, including retail. Also, Sebi's proactive approach to the market has ensured that investors need not fear about frauds. 
 
Quantum AMC Director I V Subramaniam said, "Attractively priced IPO will get a solid response from investors as its chances of listing with gains get higher. Conversely, if an IPO is over-priced, it may not be able to list attractively".
