“A good teach is like a candle. It consumes itself to light the ways for others.” From ancient to modern times, India has seen some of the most idealistic teachers. One amongst them was Dr <keyword id="290071" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sarvepalli-Radhakrishnan">Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan</keyword>, the first Vice-president and the second President of India. And it’s his birthday that we celebrate as <keyword id="15540" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="teacher">Teacher</keyword>’s Day. 
 
In the 21st century, technology has drastically changed teaching and learning process. Even in India, teachers have also been using technology to make teaching experience more interesting and indulging. 
 In many of the urban schools, chalk-board has become a thing of past. And eBook, <keyword id="101239" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPad">iPad</keyword>, web-based lessons, online tests, Chromebook, etc., are the game-changers. 
 This Teachers’ Day, <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> decided to thank some of these teachers from across India who are championing technology in the classroom and helping their students thrive in this digital world. Let’s meet these great teachers who are striving hard to impart the world-class education. 
 
Dipak Tatpuje 
 
With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Dipak Tatpuje, a senior lecturer at Satara Polytechnic, has pioneered technology in rural classrooms and trained over 150 rural teachers on how to use free online tools. 
 
Believing that technology can be a great equalizer, Tatpuje says that empowering rural students through technology “allows them not to spread their wings and walk further in life.” 
 
Balaji Jadhav 
 
Another rural teacher who supports technology is Balaji Jadhav. He developed a series of interactive, HTML-based online tests that are now used by over 500 teachers on a day-to-day basis. Balaji is no tech expert, but it was YouTube that helped him learn HTML. 
 After gaining expertise in HTML, Balaji launched a blog for fellow <keyword id="710486" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="educators">educators</keyword> in Maharashtra. Currently, he is playing role of an advisor for five state government departments and trains teachers in 36 school districts about how to use blogs for teaching. 
 
Sarvesh Srinivasan 
 
The next in the line is Sarvesh Srinivasan, director of Bengaluru’s Gifted Education and Research (GEAR) Foundation. He champions technology adoption for personalized learning. In order to help teachers recognise students’ strengths and tailor their teaching methods, Srinivasan ran a 10-month pilot program with Google Apps for Education for middle schools students. 
 
Sangeeta Gulati 
 The last one to champion the use of technology in classrooms is Sangeeta Gulati, the head of the mathematics department at New Delhi-based <keyword id="195874" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanskriti-School">Sanskriti School</keyword>. Her dedication towards education for more than a decade helped her receive the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching in 2011. She constantly encourages her students to be creative with technology. 
 
Sangeeta says that she finds herself “a stronger, more effective teacher who is connected with her students” using Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks.

This Teacher’s Day, Google celebrates India’s educators for championing technology

<ul><li>A total of 40 CEOs and businessmen are raising ₹20 billion to build a university named Plaksha. </li><li>The university will be built over 50 acres near Chandigarh. </li><li>The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society ranging from <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword>, Machine Learning to Robotics. </li></ul>India’s top entrepreneurs and businessmen are pooling their resources to build a technology university aimed at teaching emerging technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. The university, which hopes to become the ‘Stanford of the East,’ is backed by over 40 Indian entrepreneurs and CEOs including Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani, Neeraj Aggarwal, Chairman of Asia Pacific, Boston Consulting Group, Hellion Ventures’ co-founder Ashish Gupta, chairman of Genpact and Clix Capital Pramod Bhasin, Hitesh Oberoi, Infoedge and Naukri.com Managing Director, among others. Together, they are raising <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/entrepreneurs-group-to-raise-2-000-crore-for-stem-university-1550171308952.html">₹20 billion</a> to build Plaksha – the name given to the university – and have already raised ₹4,000 million. The university will be launched in 2021. The idea for the university started three years ago, when a few IIT alums – today top business leaders – got together and thought of way to encourage India’s booming tech-driven ecosystem, say its founders. “We felt the need to reimagine technology education the way it’s being delivered today and create something that’s truly world-class and cutting edge, and reimagine teaching curriculum research,” Vineet Gupta, Managing Director, Jamboree Education Pvt. Ltd. and Founder and Trustee, Ashoka University, who is one of the investors and founding member of Plaksha, told Business Insider. The university will be built upon 50 acres of land near Chandigarh International Airport, near Indian School of Business, Mohali. In its first phase, the investors have planned to invest ₹3,500 million in capital for a 1,000 student campus. In 10 years, the founders aim for it to become a 8,000-students campus. “We met the Punjab and Haryana government, where the Punjab government was excited about the university. When the idea started it was five-six of us and now we have reached 40, the number will keep growing as it’s a combined philanthropic effort,” said Gupta. The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society, Gupta said, adding they hope its ideas will help solve India’s challenges in areas ranging from food security, environment sustainability, health, education or innovation in manufacturing. “Technology has a huge role to play in advancing solutions for these problems.While the approach of the university will be to look at cutting edge technology in sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, robotics among other, we would like the university to sensitize and deal with solutions focused on India,” said Gupta. The importance of technology and innovation education has been a big theme at almost every other startup meet or discussion at Indian events focused on entrepreneurship. Top CEOs from India are raising funds to set up a technology university

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) To help develop the next generation of Cloud professionals, seven higher education institutions in India will adopt Cloud computing curricula from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate global initiative into their mainstream college syllabus, the Cloud arm of ecommerce giant Amazon said on Friday. The Cloud computing content will be offered as part of undergraduate degree and postgraduate diploma programmes starting in September this year. Cloud computing is a top workforce skill sought by companies, as reported by a LinkedIn study conducted annually over the last five years. This new effort is aimed at providing students with knowledge and competency-based credentials in skills such as Cloud architecture, data analytics, cybersecurity, Machine Learning, and software development. "Building a cloud-ready workforce is key to enabling technology-led growth in India that will drive innovation at speed and create impact at scale," Rahul Sharma, President, India and South Asia Public Sector, Amazon Internet Services Private Limited, said in a statement. "Integrating cloud curricula as part of mainstream college education represents a shift in the way the industry and academia can come together to build the next-generation of highly-skilled Cloud professionals." The education institutions offering the newly-designed Bachelor of Technology degree programs in Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science are -- Chitkara University, Punjab; Galgotias University, Uttar Pradesh; Manav Rachna University, Delhi and NCR; Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology, Uttar Pradesh; Sharda University, Delhi and NCR; and SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu. The ASM Institute of Management and Computer Studies in Maharashtra will offer syllabus combined with the AWS Educate Cloud curricula for its Post Graduate Diploma in Management -- Emerging Technology. All students participating in the degree and diploma programmes will be enrolled in AWS Educate, Amazon's global initiative to provide students comprehensive resources for building skills in the Cloud, and provided with AWS Promotional Credits to gain real-world, hands-on experience using AWS Cloud technology. Supporting this effort is IT industry body Nasscom which will facilitate greater industry participation by engaging key employers in information technology (IT) and information technology enabled services (ITES) segments in India, to build a talent pipeline equipped with cloud skills. 7 Indian institutes introduce 'AWS Educate' Cloud computing curricula

New Delhi, Feb 4 () India and Norway on Tuesday signed four MoUs in the field of research and higher education to strengthen their bilateral partnership.
The agreements were signed here during the visit of a delegation of prominent education and research institutions from Norway led by Director-General, Anne Line Wold, Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research.
One agreement was inked between the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and UiT, The Arctic University of Norway, for cooperation in fields such as bio-photonics, health and diagnostic tools, nanotechnology, water management and renewable energy.
Another MoU was signed between the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology and UiT, The Arctic University of Norway, to facilitate exchange of students and staff and consolidate joint efforts towards project initiatives in national and EU arena.
The other agreements were signed between IIT Jammu and Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and IIT Mandi and Norwegian University of Science and Technology with special focus on activities in landslides, tunnels, water management, hydropower, project-based learning, student and researchers mobility and cold region technologies.
The agreement signing was witnessed by Norwegian Ambassador to India Hans Jacob Frydenlund and the head of the delegation.
"The visiting delegation from Norway has had fruitful meetings with their Indian counterparts to discuss increased student mobility between Norway and India," Frydenlund said on the occasion.
"As a part of the Norwegian government's India Strategy 2030, research cooperation and higher education are of high importance in our bilateral relationship," he said.
This visit is a key step towards achieving the goals of a stronger and deeper bilateral relationship with India in the field of higher education, Frydenlund said.
Wold said India is an important strategic partner for Norway within higher education and research.
"For Norway, exploring potential partners and connecting researchers and institutions with their counterparts in India is extremely crucial. During this visit, we have had an excellent dialogue with the Indian authorities and found several areas of common interest that will benefit both countries," she said. ASK ASK ABH

CBSE teams up with Microsoft to train 1,000 teachers to boost computer-aided learning

The school-to-work transition process is still facing major hurdles in India and a lack of coordinated efforts has resulted in an isolated skilling system that has not been able to achieve its maximum potential, a World Economic Forum (WEF) report stated. The report titled Education 4.0 Report', on how digital and other technologies can address learning gaps and make education accessible to all, has been launched as part of WEF's Education 4.0 India initiative. "India has more than 60 million secondary and higher secondary students, but 85 per cent of schools are yet to implement vocational courses as part of their curriculum, it said.School-to-work (S2W) transition refers to the process of making students job-ready in a rapidly evolving employment landscape. The report said, The S2W transition process is still facing major hurdles such as lack of trainers, inadequate resources and infrastructure, poor integration with the mainstream school curriculum, and poor linkages between localized skill gaps and vocational courses." "A lack of coordinated efforts has resulted in an isolated skilling ecosystem that has not been able to achieve its maximum potential," it said. The report noted that many students and parents consider vocational education to be the second-best option to mainstream education. "Employers expect students to have a high degree of competencies, skills and knowledge relevant to their work. They also prefer strong communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, it stated.According to the report, at present, school pedagogy is designed with no reference to industry needs, since there are no formal channels for industry participation. "Further, credits cannot be transferred between formal and informal education streams, so students who want to pursue higher education after vocational courses (or vice-versa) face difficulty in linking their credits. This discourages mobility between the two streams," it said.Enhancing opportunities for career awareness and exposure through internships and apprenticeships' allowing credit transferability to enable students to transfer between formal and informal channels of education and training and providing experiential learning for holistic development through STEM-based courses, language learning and life-skills coaching, are among the recommendations made in the report. The Education 4.0 India initiative was launched in May 2020 and has convened over 40 partners from the education technology, government, academic and start-up communities. The report is the result of a collaboration between the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Children's Education Fund (<keyword id="56000" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unicef" source="Orion">UNICEF</keyword>) and YuWaah (Generation Unlimited India). It tracks the progress and findings of the Education 4.0 India initiative, which focuses on how the fourth industrial revolution technologies can enhance learning and reduce inequalities in access to education among children in India. The report also explores challenges and identifies solutions that can be realised as scalable interventions to enable India's youth to participate in the evolving workspace." The COVID-19 pandemic has widened the gaps in learning outcomes among school children in India. These gaps have been magnified for children, particularly from disenfranchised and vulnerable families who face innumerable socio-economic issues that also have been worsened by the pandemic," said Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum. "Through the Education 4.0 India initiative, the Forum, together with UNICEF India and YuWaah, aims to offer insights and recommendations that transcend the education landscape in India and can achieve global impact. This is the first partnership for the Forum and UNICEF at the country level," Jurgens added. The report also provides a framework for the development of scalable pilots that can be implemented by state governments and ecosystem partners. This includes best practices that can augment the existing education ecosystem and be useful for a wide range of stakeholders. 85% Indian schools don't have vocational courses as part of their curriculum: WEF

To ensure that they do, the ministry of science and technology will now rank institutions — on gender equality, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/top-institutes-will-now-be-graded-on-gender-equality/articleshow/73283922.cms">according to </a>the Times of India report. These ranks however will be for those offering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) courses. As many as 20 Indian institutions — including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Science (NITs) — have joined hands to facilitate it. The government aims to rope in over 90 institutions as a part of the new grading system. “Our policy will initially include 20 institutes which will adopt a self-assessment process to develop an accreditation model to help identify gender gaps and barriers to progression faced by women in science based on interviews with them,” Sanjay-Mishra, head of KIRAN division at the department of science and technology (DST)<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/top-institutes-will-now-be-graded-on-gender-equality/articleshow/73283922.cms"> told </a>TOI. DST, along with British Council, will give ratings to institutions. Gold accreditation will recognise institutions that have attained gender equality in its educational programmes — and act as role models to those promoting women participation. Sliver, on the other hand will recognise those institutions that are implementing practices to overcome challenges in gender neutral approach and bronze will list those institutions that are working to promote equality. The move is aimed to ‘recruit, retain and promote’ <keyword id="4244406" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="women-in-stem">women in STEM</keyword> areas. As per the report, women constitute merely 15% of faculty positions in science. In the research programmes, women account for a third of the PhD awardees. “This will definitely give a much needed thrust to the inclusion of women in academia. However a key challenge will be to define the terms of how institutions will effectively measure gender equality. They should not merely execute gender equality on paper, rather it should ensure inclusion in education and employment,” Neeti Sharma, VP, TeamLease Services told Business Insider. IITs and NITs will now be ranked on how many women they educate and employ

<ul><li>The Indian government released <keyword id="6360189" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget">Union Budget</keyword> for 2019-20 on 5 July, allocating ₹948 billion to the education sector. </li><li>In 2018, the country allocated ₹850 billion to the education fund, which was increased by 10% in 2019 at ₹938 billion. </li><li>According to government think tank Niti Ayog, India should increase its education expenditure to nearly 6% of GDP over the next four years. </li><li>India reportedly ranks third in terms of education score of BRICS nations.</li></ul>Stressing on improving the quality of education in India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Union Budget on July 5, allocating ₹948 billion to India’s education sector. Sitharaman announced a ‘Study in India’ programme which will be focussed to bring foreign students to study in India’s higher institutions. This the Minister believes will further promote a greater Indian economy. The government will also ensure industry relevant skill training for 10 million youth in India. The focus will be on building skills in technologies like — Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Virtual Reality, 3D printing and Robotics. The move will promote higher remuneration among working professionals. To make India a ‘hub of higher education,’ the government will infuse ₹400 crores to build world class institutions, which is three times the revised estimates of the previous year. Regulatory bodies will be reformed to focus on better academic progress of India. In the interim budget, the finance ministry announced a 10% increase in the <keyword id="450079" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="education-budget">education budget</keyword>, dedicating a total of ₹938 billion for schools and higher education programmes. In 2018-19, the former Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley allocated ₹850 billion towards the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/an-in-depth-analysis-of-indias-education-budget/articleshow/67777731.cms">education fund</a>. The economic survey conducted last year has shown that the government had limited fiscal space to increase spending on education. While the school education budget increased in 2019 with a ₹500 billion fund, the higher education budget allocated for prominent institutions including Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) saw a drop. In the 2017-18, the government provided funds to the tune of ₹818 billion to the education sector, which accounted for nearly 2.7% of the total GDP of the country. The chart above shows that there has been an increase in India’s expenditure on education. However, it is low compared to other countries like China and Mauritius — which spend 3.3% and 5% of their total GDP on education. <ul><li>India’s prestigious <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT), Madras will host the <keyword id="8150706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore-India-Hackathon-2019">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</keyword>. </li><li>It is a 36-hour long hackathon, focussed on three themes — good health and well-being, quality education, and affordable and clean energy. </li><li>Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will award prizes to the winning teams. </li><li>Six teams will receive the ‘Prize of Encouragement,’ along with prizes worth $2,000 (₹141,425). </li></ul>India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will host the second joint competition — <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1586294#">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</a>. The three-day long event will commence on September 28 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the awards ceremony on September 30. Ong Ye Kung, Minister of Education, Singapore will also be present at the function. This will be a 36-hour long hackathon, focussed on three themes — good health and well-being, quality education, and affordable and clean energy. Each of the 20 participating teams will have three students, each from both countries for exchange of culture and ideas. The winning team will be awarded a prize money of $10,000 (₹707,125), while the three runner ups will get $8,000 (₹565,700), $6,000 (₹424,275) and $4,000 (₹282,850) respectively. The Human Resource and Development Ministry (MHRD) of India will also award the ‘Prize of Encouragement of,’ $2,000 each to six teams for ideas with potential. “The Singapore India Hackathon, an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the first of its kind joint <keyword id="6001248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-hackathon">international hackathon</keyword> between India and any other country. It aims to promote engagement and collaboration of student community in India with the rest of the world and to develop innovative and out-of-the-box solutions for the daunting problems faced by our societies,” said R Subrahmanyam, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education. Last year, the Singapore India Hackathon was held at NTU, Singapore in November. <ul><li><keyword id="6513530" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="times-higher-education">Times Higher Education</keyword> (THE) recently rolled out world university rankings featuring six Indian universities in the top 500. </li><li>Among the Indian institutions, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay were ranked in the top 500 in the global list. </li><li>Globally, the <keyword id="150557" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-Oxford">University of Oxford</keyword>, United Kingdom, California Institute of Technology, United States and <keyword id="127583" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-Cambridge">University of Cambridge</keyword>, UK were the top performers in the rankings. </li></ul>Indian universities are yet to make a mark on a global scale. Their international rank has slipped further this year, according to The World University Rankings 2020. The <a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/world-university-rankings-2020-results-announced">Times Higher Education </a>(THE) recently rolled out world university rankings which featured only six Indian universities in the top 500. Among the Indian institutions, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay were ranked in the top 500 in the global list. However, even these elite institutions from India did not make it to the top 300. This happened for the first time in the last seven years — despite an increase in the number of Indian institutions featuring on the list. Yet, the list editors believe that India has a lot of potential. “The Indian government has strong ambitions to boost the global standing of its top universities and attract foreign students, academics and research collaboration. It needs to back them up with high levels of investment and increasing global competition,” THE rankings editor Ellie Bothwell <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/indian-universities-out-of-top-300-in-global-rankings/articleshow/71089023.cms">told</a> TOI. Only six Indian institutes featured in top 500 global university rankings

The initiative was to honour the colleges and organisations with the best internship culture, that has helped students capitalise on the theoretical concepts with practical exposure. “Anything and everything outside the classroom, is internship,” Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE said. Industries are making use of interns as their workforce to bring speed and innovation to their projects. The top three organisations include Times Internet, startup Out of the Box Solutions and Today’s Kalam Foundation, an NGO that focuses on imparting quality education in India. The selections are on the basis of internship profiles offered by the organisations, stipend range and learning opportunities for interns. Sarvesh Agrawal, CEO of Internshala earlier told Business Insider India that “internships are finally becoming mainstream phenomenon and are no longer restricted to select few campuses and companies.” Among the colleges with the best internship record are <keyword id="8023590" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paavai-Engineering-College">Paavai Engineering College</keyword>, Tamil Nadu, Maharaja Surajmal Institute, New Delhi, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, New Delhi, and Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, New Delhi. In 2018, Manipal Institute of Technology was ranked first across India, with its best internship culture. Following it was Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology and Chandigarh University. According to Internshala, over 15,000 students from the 2800 AICTE- approved colleges received internship opportunities in the last four months. Overall, nearly a third of students got internships on their own. While many of these internships have turned into pre-placement offers by the end. UK-based education and publishing major Pearson has been on a mission to make learning more accessible to everyone by enabling collaboration between all the stakeholders in the education sector and removing the digital divide in India. It is aiming to construct a vibrant educational ecosystem in our country, strengthen its direct-to-consumer (D2C) strategy and direct relationship with the higher education ecosystem across the APAC region. So, to discuss what lies ahead, Advertising and Media caught up with Siddharth Banerjee, Managing Director &amp; SVP, India &amp; Asia, Pearson. Can you tell us how 2021 was for <keyword id="530551" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pearson-india" source="Orion">Pearson India</keyword> and for the education sector? 2021 has proved to be a transformational one for the education and learning sector. We have seen increased investments in education and technology, and major focus on online/blended modes of teaching and learning, and new business models being developed in India - all of which provides a universe of choices to learners and helps create a diverse array of learning environments. 2021 was also a high action year for Pearson India as we ensured the delivery of our revenue plans, launched innovative products, initiated the launch of a new technology centre in India and levelled up our conversations with some of the critical stakeholders across the Indian Higher Education spectrum, all while building a high performing teamwork culture within the organization. Besides an array of partnerships, we also launched the Pearson e-Library 2.0, a comprehensive 360º digital learning platform that gives access to over 4000+ titles, gaining great response from some of India’s leading business schools and engineering colleges registering on the platform. Q. You have recently onboarded a brand ambassador. Firstly, why did you think now was the right time for the company and what was the thought behind choosing Vicky Kaushal? What are you eyeing to achieve from this partnership? Globally, Pearson’s focus is on how we can strengthen our digital-first proposition and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) strategy to build a long-term, direct relationship with millions of learners across the globe. India is a strategic growth market for Pearson and therefore it is essential for us to establish a stronger brand connect here. Vicky Kaushal, besides being a great actor, is also one of the most popular youth icons in the country today, an inspiration for young learners to dream big and chart their own journey and hence, he’s a great storyteller for us, at Pearson India. In addition, we are going to work with study tubers, sports icons and other relevant storytellers to strengthen our brand connect with our audience. Q. Now that you have your brand ambassador, you have clearly upped your marketing budget. Which advertising medium will get your lion's share from this budget? Pearson is entering into a new era of digital and D2C with an aim of building a stronger connect with the youth. Social Media is emerging as the most active driver of brand choice amongst the youth today. It has become important for brands to mine ‘closer-to-life’ stories on social for building authentic connections with the audience. Social media &amp; PR will be key channels for us to reach out and connect with a wider audience. Q. What is your larger marketing strategy? How will your messaging change now that you have a new brand ambassador onboard? Given our larger D2C approach, the overall marketing strategy revolves around creating a learner-centric narrative and enabling digital transformation of our offerings, which will motivate learners to focus on quality content and right outcomes. While specific details will be revealed closer to the initiation of campaigns , the aim would be to inspire students to prepare with Pearson and put in their best efforts. Q. On a larger level, what are some of the trends that you are expecting to see in the Education sector? The Indian education sector is currently at the brink of a momentous digital transformation and based on some of my recent interactions with key stakeholders in the sector, here are some important trends will reshape the overall education landscape: <ul><li>The future of education will be led by learners: No-one-size-fits-all approach and hyper personalization, enabled by data analytics and artificial intelligence, to meet the unique needs of every learner will drive fresher innovations.</li><li>Technology will enable the rise of a more intuitive teacher who has access to tools to create a more conducive learning environment for each student, thus helping both, the teacher and the taught.</li><li>Imagining Education &amp; Learning in the Metaverse: Personalized, immersive, and engaging content will remain to be key for a robust education system and what’s more exciting are the ways in which this content will be consumed, especially with the emergence of AR/VR technologies.</li><li>With NEP being a potential game changer, there will also be greater collaboration between all the stakeholders in the education sector towards removing the digital divide – thus addressing the age-old debate of access of education in India.</li><li>An era of massive partnerships for the Education Ecosystem in India: Greater participation of organisations from different industries in the sector as they look to invest in building customised courses to help develop industry-specific technical skills and expertise.</li></ul>Q. How has the consumer behaviour in the Education industry changed after the pandemic? Like most sectors, the Education sector has undergone a massive digital transformation in the wake of the pandemic, which has led to a significant shift in consumer behavior. Hybrid learning models have become popular, with around 94% children, globally, engaged in some kind of online or blended learning. At Pearson, we’re committed to being at the forefront of the rapidly growing and changing learning needs, which is why we reach out to learners, educators, employers and working professionals to identify major trends in the education sector through our annual <a href="https://plc.pearson.com/en-US/future-learning/global-learner-survey">Pearson Global Learner Survey</a>. Some of the key trends that came up in 2021 show: <ul><li>The clash of COVID-19 with the world’s increasing reliance on technology has finally pulled education systems fully into the digital age.</li><li>Learners want to take control of their learning and demand innovative modes of education which provide an anytime, anywhere access model.</li><li>Focus on new, innovative, and practical skills has increased; 88% of students want colleges to teach career-oriented skills to prepare them for the 21st century workplace.</li><li>Learners are concerned about how COVID is widening the gap between the haves and have nots, especially for younger students.</li><li>Nearly 90% of world’s women are taking action to change their career paths and 81% are using the pandemic as an opportunity to re-evaluate their lives and careers.</li></ul>Q. Can you tell us what would be some of your focus areas in 2022? What is your larger vision for Pearson India? As the global digital powerhouse of learning, our larger vision is to become the preferred partner of choice for learners, educators and government and provide world-class content, tech-based learning solutions and tools to contribute towards an outcome-based learning framework in India. In order to do this, we need to address the challenges of affordable access, quality learning, and employability, in the education ecosystem which is why we will focus on (1) Strengthening our product portfolio and DTC proposition. Naturally, this will require a lot of support and collaboration from other stakeholders in the market and hence we’ll look at (2) Creating meaningful partnerships in the education ecosystem to jointly build learning solutions.
