 Moon and its secrets ISRO and other space agencies may have started to uncover a lot of the Moon’s secrets but there’s a lot that’s still unknown. Even so, users of Twitter are reminiscing over how they used to fondly call the Moon Chanda Mama (Uncle Moon) when they were kids and how they used to dream of fishing while sitting on the edge of a Crescent Moon.

 Nonetheless, the Moon has played an important part in human history. It is represented in cave paintings from 15,000 years back and in literature, the moon has the power to turn humans into werewolves. Not to mention the mysterious blood moon which bring spirits to earth. Twitter user @A_for_Shreya reminises how she observed the ‘Schumacher Levy’ as a kid but for scolded by her grandfather for ‘telling bad things’.

ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 launch is inspiring childhood memories of Karva Chauth and power cuts

<ul><li> <keyword id="414120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrayaan-2">Chandrayaan 2</keyword>, India's second mission to the Moon, just launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in India.</li><li>The satellite has successfully separated from the launch vehicle is in the geostationary transfer orbit.</li><li><keyword id="45499" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrayaan">Chandrayaan</keyword> 2 is expected to reach the Moon in Septermber after a 48 day journey through space.</li></ul>India’s satellite to the Moon, Chandrayaan 2, witnessed a successful launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) at Sriharikota today afternoon at 2:34 pm. “The satellite has successfully separated from the launch vehicle,” K. Sivan, ISRO chairman, told the press after Chandrayaan successfully separated from its launch vehicle, the ‘Bahubali’ GSLV Mark III.

 In fact, the launch went better than expected with GSLV Mark III launching Chandrayaan 2 6000kms further than expected giving the the satellite more fuel and life for its maneuvers later in the journey.

 India may be the fourth nation after the United States, Russia and China to land on the Moon but it will be the first one to ever land on the natural satellite’s South Pole. This is also India’s 73rd launch mission from SDSC. Take-off after tweaked countdown The 24-hour countdown began a little later than scheduled at 6:43 on Sunday evening because ISRO was reportedly <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/isro-scientists-tweak-chandrayaan-2-countdown-to-avoid-the-number-13/articleshow/70324534.cms">superstitious about avoiding Rahu Kalaam.</a> Chandrayaan 2 received authorisation of the launch from the mission director 18 minutes ahead of the launch following which the vehicle director and cryo chief will authorised the vehicle operations sequence. During the launch's initial stage, the S200 burners are ignited on ground. Following which the L1 10 rocket was ignited, one of the primary engines of the GSLV Mark III vehicle. The S200's subsequently separated after which the launch was under close loop guidance which was followed by the vehicle's shedding its heat shields. The cryogenic stage then ignited and performance was reported as normal at 204 kms around 405 minutes into the launch. The crygenic stage burnt out after 8 more minutes and the satellite successfully separated from the launch vehicle to enter geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). The Chandrayaan 2 will undergo 15 crucial maneuvers before actually landing on the Moon’s South Pole. Chandrayaan 2’s journey through space Chandrayaan 2 is going to attempt a soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole — one of the most cratered lunar surfaces. K. Sivan, the ISRO chairman, has dubbed the 15 minutes of that land to be the ‘most terrifying’ that the team will face during the mission. <ul><li>A recent survey has showed that more than half of India's smartphone users believe that their device is spying on them.</li><li>As many as 52% Indians believe their smart devices record personal information without their knowledge, a survey by YouGov said on Tuesday.</li><li>More often than not, social media feeds have ads about things that we have just spoken about and not searched for.</li></ul> It was a lazy Sunday evening. I was sitting with a couple of friends and chatting about a company called <keyword id="7797479" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="livspaces">Livspaces</keyword>. I had barely heard of the home renovation company and, definitely, had never searched for it. We hadn't thought of redesigning our home since the time we moved into the current rented apartment in Mumbai 18 months ago. Even the last Sunday night, the conversation had moved on from Livspaces within a few minutes because home improvement was not on any of our agenda. I woke up on Monday morning and like most people, the first thing I do is to check my phone. And BAM! There it was-- an ad for Livspaces on my Facebook feed.

 This was not the first time. The first time I noticed it, sometime in 2018, an ad about eggs seller from New Jersey had popped on my Twitter feed within minutes of a conversation about-- you guessed it-- eggs! And I wasn't alone either. A colleague, Katya Naidu, shared a similar experience with her just as we were discussing this story.

 Too many people have had similar experiences. Given the spate of 'coincidences', it is hardly a surprise that more than half of India's smartphone users are worried that their devices are spying on them. "People have concerns about their online privacy and losing private data (such as photos, mails, financial information) is people's biggest tech-related fear (with 55% saying it)," according to a survey by YouGov, an Internet-based market research and data analytics firm. We are, as a generation, far beyond the point of dependence on technology where one could draw the line. The fear is how far can this go before the technology is misused. However, it went horribly wrong for a Bengaluru techie who was arrested after he refused to marry the girl, <a href="https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.com/bangalore/cover-story/bengaluru-techie-looking-for-a-one-night-stand-on-tinder-lands-in-jail/articleshow/69832351.cms">reported </a><keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword> Mirror. Rama Reddy, a 29-year-old employee of a tech firm in Bengaluru, started dating a woman after finding a match on Tinder. The two conitnued to date for a month before they reportedly decided to have sex. Things went sour, when Rama turned down the marriage proposal and broke up with his date hours after going physical. After waiting for about a week, the woman finally filed a complaint at the Whitefield police station in Bengaluru on June 3. She accused the man for luring her into having sex by promising a committed relationship. The man was immediately put behind bars since it is illegal to have sex on the pretext of marriage, a law that was recently upheld by the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-47959684">recently.</a> Earlier in April, the Supreme Court ruled that sex on the pretext of marriage is rape and a blow to the honour of a woman. India not ready for Tinder? Tinder knew well as <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/opinion/interviews/india-is-the-largest-market-for-tinder-in-asia-taru-kapoor-head-india-tinder/articleshow/51840649.cms?from=mdr">it entered Asia’s largest market </a> for internet users that ‘hook ups’ aren’t as widely accepted. The app had to change its story while marketing in India, where the society is still largely conservative in related to sexuality and physical relationships. Government's crime data for 2016 showed 10,068 cases of rape by "known persons on promise to marry the victim". In 2015, that number was 7,655, the BBC reported. “The hairsplitting manner of deciding these cases is a matter of grave concern. If it can be proved that the girl consented to sexual intercourse only after the promise of marriage, the case ends in conviction. But if she was romantically involved, and demanded marriage later, it has been held that it is not a case of “rape under promise of marriage”. The school dropout teenager from a poverty stricken background is expected to know the difference!” The Mumbai-based lawyer Flavia Agnes <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/toi-edit-page/what-makes-up-the-majority-of-cases-of-rape-under-promise-of-marriage-heres-a-reality-check/https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/toi-edit-page/what-makes-up-the-majority-of-cases-of-rape-under-promise-of-marriage-heres-a-reality-check/">wrote a few years ago</a>. While at the outset it may seem outrageous to arrest a man for a broken relationship, the nuances of India’s societal structure makes the issue complicated. However, as Agnes explained, a 2015 study conducted by Majlis, an non-governmental organisation (NGO), which provides support to survivors of sexual violence, found 74% of the victims were minors. Among the girls who were pregnant at the time of reporting, 31% were in the age group of 10-15 years, and 36% were 15-18 years. Most were school dropouts from poverty stricken backgrounds. The point Agnes is driving home is India has a unique problem-- the rape law is the only recourse available to the poor and marginalised women who are exploited. Nuances like these makes business tricky in India for dating apps like Tinder. An Indian woman got her Tinder Date arrested for refusing marriage

<ul><li><keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">WhatsApp</keyword> has decided to take legal action against entities that use third party software to send bulk messages on its messaging service.</li><li>Any non-personal use of the platform is not what WhatsApp was intended for, according to the company’s spokesperson. </li><li>This comes after WhatsApp served cease and desist notices to companies reportedly violating regulation using clone apps and software.</li></ul> Over the last few years, WhatsApp has been trying to limit the amount of bulk messages that are sent on the platform. But clone apps and automated delivery software that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/whatsapp-forward-messages-unrestricted-for-rs-1000-using-clone-apps-software/articleshow/69353858.cms">cost as little as ₹1,000</a> are by-passing the platform’s anti-spam restrictions. The Facebook-owned messaging app has now decided to take legal actions against those who are exploiting the platform by way of unauthorised usage. WhatsApp has over 1.5 billion users, globally. "Beginning on December 7, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others, in abuse that violates our Terms of Service, such as automated or bulk messaging or non-personal use, even if that determination is based on information solely available to us off our platform," the company wrote in a post on Wednesday. So, anyone from companies to individuals, can be sued by WhatsApp if found sending out messages in bulk. Stopping misuse in its tracks The company said that the messaging service is not intended to circulate bulk or automated messaging, both of which violate their Terms of Service. The issue with mass messaging has less to do with casual users of WhatsApp but with digital marketers and political activists. When Reuters revealed that clones apps were being used to send out bulk messages, WhatsApp issued <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/whatsapp-forward-messages-unrestricted-for-rs-1000-using-clone-apps-software/articleshow/69353858.cms">cease and desist notice</a>s to all companies that were reportedly involved. WhatsApp was designed for private messaging, so the company asserts that they have taken action globally to prevent bulk messaging and enforce limits on how WhatsAp accounts that misuse WhatsApp will be handled. "We have also stepped up our ability to identify abuse, which helps us ban 2 million accounts globally per month," <a href="http://techcrunch">TechCrunch</a> reported a WhatsApp spokesperson as saying. WhatsApp dismissed all the clones apps and automated delivery software as ‘unofficial’. Those who are caught using the clones could be banned, as per their regulations. But for that to happen, a user’s WhatsApp activity has to show up as ‘unusual’ on the company’s radar. Identifying who’s sending what becomes hard to determine with end-to-end encryption protecting messages. Earlier this year, the platform said that it had built a Machine Learning (ML)-based system to detect and remove users who behave inappropriately on the app. The platform said it was able to assess past dealings with problematic behaviour to ban 20% of bad accounts at the time of registration itself.
