IT company <keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> expects to soon hit USD 7 billion revenue run rate for the current fiscal year, out of which the telecom vertical is estimated to contribute USD 3 billion, a top official of the company said on Monday. Tech Mahindra Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer CP <keyword id="45924" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gurnani" source="Orion">Gurnani</keyword> told PTI that the company has hit a run rate of USD 1 billion (about Rs 8,300 crore), from 5G solutions that it provides to telecom companies. "We are at an annual revenue run rate of USD 6.6 billion. We expect to reach USD 7 billion run rate for this fiscal. Telecom vertical is expected to contribute USD 3 billion to this. We have already touched a revenue run rate of USD 1 billion from 5G services," Gurnani said at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. Tech Mahindra posted a 5 per cent decline in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 1,297 crore for the December quarter. Revenue from operations, however, increased 20 per cent to Rs 13,734.6 crore from Rs 11,451 crore a year ago. Tech Mahindra President, Communications, Media and Entertainment Business, and CEO, <keyword id="659906" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="network-services" source="Orion">Network Services</keyword>, <keyword id="644257" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="manish-vyas" source="Orion">Manish Vyas</keyword> said 50 per cent of the company's business comes from the American region, 30 per cent from Europe and 20 per cent from the rest of the world. "We believe this trend will continue because we have invested in these geographies. All the sectors within telcos, be it the growth of fibre, fixed wireless, new product build and all the transformation on the digital side, have continued to provide us growth," he said. Talking about the impact of the global macroeconomic situation on the company, <keyword id="30343" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vyas" source="Orion">Vyas</keyword> said uncertainty still remains across the globe and there will be intense pressure on the cost of services. "The overall macroeconomic situation still remains uncertain. People will need to conserve as we go forward. It is an important opportunity for us to continue to drive cost optimization through simplification. The broad macroeconomic situation also will evolve as we come out of this uncertain time. People will need to continue to innovate more. Particularly with the whole focus on generative AI as well as the way metaverse will be used by enterprises," he said. Vyas said that globally the company has acquired 42 new logos this year to whom it is providing network transformation including solutions for private 5G networks. "It is essentially a network on the cloud, software-defined network and private network. The growth driver has been a requirement of enterprises to simplify their operations and modernise tracking of their business data," he said. Gurnani said several companies are engaging with Tech Mahindra to simplify, modernise and monetise their networks, and the rollout of the 5G network across the globe will continue to drive the business of the company. "We are very keen to look at how the rollout of 5G and deployments will happen. It is a big year from a deployment standpoint. It is a big year for the modernisation of the digital stack. I think telcos will look to find adjacencies with fintech, learning, manufacturing, IoT etc for growth. We are very excited about 2023. There are a lot of case studies that will emerge in all these areas," Vyas said. TechM expects $7 bn revenue run rate this fiscal, $3 bn from telecom

Tech Mahindra rallies more than 30% in 30 days as analysts seem bullish on 5G opportunities for the blue chip stock

The roll-out of the new network has slipped on the list of priorities for many in the battle against the pandemic. Even though Tech Mahindra’s focus is squarely on 5G, there is a lack of clarity around the timeline, according to Motilal Oswal. While the IT services company will definitely gain if and when 5G emerges full throttle, especially as a partner with the Japanese Rakuten Mobile, it won’t likely be in the current fiscal year. “Activity in the telecom sector is starting to happen, both in the IT and networks side. But the network side revival has been slower. It has grown slower than the rest of the business. We still believe 5G will appear more in FY 22, and not in the current fiscal,” Tech Mahindra CFO Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an interview last month. Currently, Tech Mahindra sees 5G as a $63 to $83 billion opportunity between 2020 to 2025. According to <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/tech-mahindra-stock-hits-an-all-time-high-on-bullish-analyst-ratings">Jefferies</a>, the company is well-placed to leverage the 5G cycle once it kicks off. A new strategy for cloud and platforms Global spending on cloud services is expected to hit $1 trillion in 2024 spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). The strongest growth in the ‘as a service’ category set to account for more to 60% of cloud revenues worldwide. Within that, Tech Mahindra is targeting the smallest cloud category — infrastructure build. This includes hardware, software, and support for enterprise private clouds and service provider public clouds. Sensex gains over 800 points led by bank, IT stocks — Axis Bank, SBI, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra rise up to 4%

India’s top brands have borne the brunt of the global economic downturn in 2023. The combined value of Kantar BrandZ’s top-75 Indian brands shed 4% of their value to $379 billion in 2023. Yet, they have fared better than their global counterparts, as its global list has shed 20% of its value. Most of this loss in brand value was seen in Indian tech brands whose value shrunk by 14%. The brands have a major presence in international markets, and have been impacted by global pressures, recession threats and geopolitical instability, says Kantar. “If you exclude tech, the combined brand value is quite stable,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director and chief client officer, South Asia, Insights Division of Kantar. TCS on the top, as usual The spot of India’s most valuable brand, however, is retained by tech giant TCS. It has shed 6% of its value but has fared better than tech as a sector. “TCS has a strong corporate reputation which makes it more likely to retain clients and business. It can also help enable customer retention which is also a factor that adds to brand value,” Deepender Rana, executive managing director of South Asia Insights Division at Kantar told Business Insider India. Infosys’ brand value dropped by 17%, while HCL Tech’s brand value rose by 3%. Both these brands made it to the top 10. Wipro’s brand value dropped by a sharp 42%. The rest of the list is dominated by banks, telecom companies with only one consumer company, Asian Paints in the top 10. risers of the year. TVS, valued at $1.9 billion, occupies the 51st rank. The company has gained 59% in value and leapt 24 places thanks to a number of successful product launches and a 10-year partnership with BMW that gives it leverage in markets such as Europe, the US and Canada. Mahindra is valued at $2.01 billion and occupies the 47th rank. Mahindra, which grew its value by 48%, made itself incredibly meaningful in consumers’ eyes, and also significantly boosted its salience. The sector saw the second highest category growth of 19%, after tobacco. Royal Enfield’s value also swelled, thanks to Indians’ preference for premium products. A lot of Indian auto brands, like Tata Motors, also entered EV markets and are able to meet consumer needs better, observes Rana. “Auto companies’ value declined during Covid and made a comeback after they dealt with supply chain issues and dealt with bottlenecks,” said Mohanty. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki, however, shed 5% of its brand value, while Bajaj Auto’s brand value went up by 9%. The value in finance Financial services brands have grown their brand value by 6% with 16 brands and contributing to the biggest chunk of the total brand value. Their growth is attributed to growth in digital banking and Axis Bank whose value swelled 28% and now ranks at 17. ICICI Bank which ranks at no 6 also has seen its brand value swell by 18%. Two of this year’s new entrants also belong to the fintech sector — PhonePe and Cred. This is in spite of the fact that tech as a sector saw its value go down during the year. PhonePe has made its debut on the list at No.21 with a value of $4.4 billion. It has quickly become India’s leading digital payment app by investing heavily in the strength of its infrastructure, building connections with partner banks, and developing a huge network of merchant acceptance points, said Kantar. Meanwhile, Cred has entered at no 48 with a brand value of $2 billion. “Growth of credit and other digital trends are adding to the value of fintechs. There is a need for these services and brands are doing a good job of providing them,” Mohanty tells Business Insider India. PayTM, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Naukri, Oyo and Nykaa have shed value; while Byju’s hasn’t been included in the list this year. FMCG as a sector has seen its brand value remain stable during the year.

TCS retains No 1 spot as India’s top brand but tech sector takes a hit

It includes products like laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers (PCs) and servers. “This completes the triangle of electronic manufacturing in India,” said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad during today’s <keyword id="6355512" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-cabinet">Union Cabinet</keyword> briefing. The other two corners of the triangle are the PLI for mobile phones which was announced in April last year and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/government-announces-12000-crore-pli-scheme-for-telecom-sector/articleshow/81053464.cms">PLI for telecom gear</a> announced last week. According to Prasad, the Indian government’s aim is to make Indian IT hardware as successful as <keyword id="680086" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-IT-services">Indian IT services</keyword> — which includes companies like Tata Consultancy Services (<keyword id="6357150" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs">TCS</keyword>), HCL Technologies, <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> and <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> — on a global scale. “Ten target sectors along with specific product lines having high growth potential were identified by NITI Aayog for implementation of PLI Schemes. PLI Scheme for IT Hardware is a further step in that direction,” said Prasad, who has the Information Technology and Electronics portfolio in the central government. The government will provide incentives worth ₹7,350 crore over the next four years. It estimates that production will hit ₹3.26 lakh crore with exports worth ₹2.45 lakh crore led by five global champions and ten national champions. “Right now, the value addition of IT hardware is around 5-10%. In the next five years, this will increase to 20-25%,” said Prasad. The direct and indirect revenues generated from production under the new PLI scheme are expected to be ₹ 15,760 crore over next 4 years. It also is expected to generate over 1,80,000 jobs during the same time period. Mumbai, Jan 4 () Rising for the ninth straight session, the BSE Sensex closed above the 48,000-mark for the first time on Monday as <keyword id="179748" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="investor-sentiment">investor sentiment</keyword> got a boost after India approved two coronavirus vaccines over the weekend. A strengthening rupee, positive global cues and encouraging macroeconomic data gave further impetus to risk appetite, traders said. The 30-share BSE Sensex ended 307.82 points or 0.64 per cent higher at 48,176.80. It touched a record intra-day peak of 48,220.47. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty jumped 114.40 points or 0.82 per cent to its fresh lifetime high of 14,132.90. It scaled an all-time high of 14,147.95 during the session. ONGC was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, spurting 4.02 per cent, followed by TCS, HCL Tech, <keyword id="43217" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword>, Infosys, M&amp;M, HUL, <keyword id="44642" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sun-Pharma">Sun Pharma</keyword> and L&amp;T. On the other hand, Kotak Bank, <keyword id="111876" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Finance">Bajaj Finance</keyword>, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, <keyword id="66427" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PowerGrid">PowerGrid</keyword> and Titan were among the laggards, shedding up to 1.43 per cent. India's drugs regulator on Sunday approved <keyword id="9605255" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="oxford-astrazeneca">Oxford-AstraZeneca</keyword>'s COVID-19 vaccine Covishield and indigenously-developed Covaxin of Bharat Biotech for restricted emergency use in the country. Experts said the approvals and likely commencement of inoculation process soon bode well for the markets and economy. "Emboldened by the likely rollout of the vaccines this month, bulls went berserk, bolstered by IT and metal stocks with able support from pharma stocks. PMI data and renewed buying in select financials provided buoyancy across the broader markets," said S Ranganathan, Head of Research at LKP Securities. India's manufacturing sector activity strengthened in December, with manufacturers stepping up production and input buying amid efforts to rebuild their inventories following business closures earlier in the year, PMI data showed. The seasonally adjusted IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) was at 56.4 in December, a tick higher than November's 56.3 and above the critical 50 threshold for the fifth straight month. Sector-wise, BSE metal, IT, teck, oil and gas, auto, industrials and telecom indices rallied up to 5.34 per cent, while bankex and consumer durables slipped. Broader BSE midcap and smallcap indices rose up to 1.42 per cent. Global equities surged as vaccine rollout in multiple countries enthused investors. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong ended on a positive note, while and Tokyo was in the red. Stock exchanges in Europe opened with significant gains. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 1.31 per cent to USD 52.48 per barrel. The rupee appreciated by 9 paise to close at 73.02 against the US dollar on Monday, supported by sustained foreign fund inflows. Foreign institutional investors purchased shares worth Rs 506.21 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to provisional exchange data.
