Out of the 2,801 stocks traded during the day, 2,204 saw advances, while 519 saw declines, and 78 remained unchanged. 76 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 37 stocks hit their 52-week low prices as well. 162 stocks hit the upper circuit during today's trading, while 51 stocks hit the lower circuit during the day. Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd explains that markets experienced a breather after the recent decline, gaining over a percent, driven by strong global cues. After an initial gap-up start, the Nifty oscillated within a range and finally settled near the day's high at 24,297.50. Most sectors contributed to the upward movement, with metals, energy, and pharma being the top performers. The broader indices also saw a notable rebound, gaining between 2.5% and 3%. "Although volatility has significantly cooled-off after the sharp surge, there remains potential for further decline. On the index front, a decisive close above 24,500 in the Nifty is needed to ease pressure and trigger a sustained rebound. Given the current conditions, we maintain a cautious outlook and recommend continuing with a hedged approach", he continued. Says Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, "Today, the benchmark indices bounced back sharply, the Nifty ends 305 points higher while the Sensex was up by 875 points. Among Sectors, all the major sectoral indices were traded in to the positive territory but Oil and Gas index outperformed, rallied 3.10 percent. Technically, after a positive opening the market held the positive momentum throughout the day. It also holding double bottom formation on intraday charts, which indicating continuation of pullback rally in the near future". "We are of the view that, 24,200/79,100 would be the sacrosanct support zone for the day traders. As long as market is trading above the same, the pullback formation is likely to continue. On the higher side, it could bounce back till 24,400-24,475/80,000-80,200. On the flip side, below 24,200/79,100 the sentiment could change, below same, it could retest the level of 24,100-24,000/78,800-78,500", he explained. All broad market indices made a sharp rebound, with the exception of India <keyword id="315980" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="VIX" source="Orion">VIX</keyword>, which dipped by 13.72%. Nifty Next 50 rallied over 3%, while all other indices rose between 1% and 3% each. Amidst sectoral indices, oil and gas jumped by 3.06%, while media, metal, pharma and healthcare inched up over 2% each to close the day in green today. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares notes that after a strong opening, the Index oscillated in a well-maintained thin range and finally ended the session higher at 24,297.05 with gains of 304.95 points. All the sectors ended in green with metal and media being the top performers. "Mid and small caps advanced by 2.45% &amp; 2.86% respectively and outperformed the Benchmark Index. After 2 days of correction, Nifty50 has formed a green candle but its long-legged DOJI pattern indicates indecisiveness still. We believe that as long as the Index holds its support level of 23,960, there is a chance to soar higher to 24,550 followed by 24,700", said Gaggar.

With the exception of FMCG, IT, media, metal and realty, which managed marginal gains, all other sectors closed in the reds. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares explains that although a strong opening reaching higher levels was seen in the opening trade; the index failed to hold its gains and gradually erased it. In the 2nd half of trading, selling pressure intensified, and the index wiped off all its gains to end the session at 23,992.55 with a loss of 63.05 points. "A mixed trend was seen across the board, where realty and IT were the top gainers, while PSU Banks corrected the most, followed by auto. From the broader markets, midcaps and small caps corrected by 0.61% &amp; 0.39% respectively, and underperformed the frontline index. The near-term outlook for Nifty50 turned bearish, unless it gives a convincing move above 24,400 while on the downside, 23,880 will be considered as immediate support", Gaggar continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities noted that while today, the markets opened higher due to positive Asian markets, they failed to sustain these levels and closed at the day's lowest point. "Although the market did not break the previous day's lows, it closed below the closing of the previous day. Apart from Nifty realty, metal, and IT, other indices closed in the red. Based on the short-term market structure, the trend-setting levels are 23,900/78,290. If the market falls below this, it may decline to 23,700 or 23,600/78,000-77,800, where it has support from retracements and long-term averages. It's advisable to consider selective buying around this level. On the upside, the major resistance levels are 24,150/79,000 and 24,400/79,700. It's recommended to reduce weak long positions around 24,300/24,400", he said. Rajesh Bhosale, Equity Technical Analyst, Angel One highlighted that the momentum favored the bears, and that the possibility of intermittent rebounds cannot be ruled out. "Therefore, any such bounces, similar to today, should ideally be viewed as selling opportunities. As for key levels, 24,250 appears to be immediate resistance, while the 24,350 - 24,400 range remains a challenging barrier for the bulls. Only a close above this range could potentially revive some positive momentum in the market. On the downside, immediate support is seen at 23,900 - 23,850, below which the Nifty may slip towards the 23,600 - 23,550 levels. Traders are advised to monitor these levels closely and adjust their trades accordingly, while also keeping an eye on global developments, as our markets are particularly influenced by global momentum", Bhosale continued. On the global front, oil prices rose by over 1% today, bouncing back from yesterday's losses, due to supply concerns stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict and strong U.S. services data. However, the fear of Iran retaliating against recent attacks in the region has increased fears of a broader war, threatening global supply stability and impacting oil forecasts. Furthermore, the US ISM Services PMI for July came in at 51.4, slightly above the month's forecast (51) and higher than June's reading (48.8). This is a positive sign, since it indicates a rebound in services sector, improvement in business activities, new orders and employment across industries like finance, healthcare and more. "With the Federal Reserve’s interest rate strategy under scrutiny, any positive US economic data could support the case for rate cuts", continued Chouhan. In response, global indices were seen trading in green. Nikkei 225 in particular, which had dropped around 12.4% yesterday, witnessing its worst crash since 1987, sharply rebounded about 3,217.04 points, or 10.23% to close at 34,675.46 points.

Bajaj Finance reported its Q1FY25 results recently. While its profits rose 14% YoY to Rs 3,912 crore, the firm's net interest income also reported a 25% jump. However, the stock was trading at Rs 6,614.90, down by over 1% today. The company's loan losses and provisions during April-June 2024 period jumped to Rs 1,685 crore, as opposed to Rs 995 crore during April-June 2023. Most midcap and small cap indices registered significant growth today. Mid cap 100 was up by 1.04%, small cap 100 was up by 1.76%. However, India VIX dipped by as much as 7.72%. Small cap 50 (up by 1.74%), small cap 250 (up by 1.86%) and microcaps (up by 2.68%) also saw healthy leads during the day. As for sectoral indices, consumer durables and oil and gas were up by over 1%, while media gained over 2% during the day. Auto, bank, <keyword id="19931572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg" source="keywords">FMCG</keyword>, PSU and private banks closed the day in red. Mr. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares noted that a mixed trend was seen in the markets where mid and smallcap segments were seen compounding their morning gains while Bank Nifty-led correction dragged the index lower to end the session at 24,413.50 with a loss of 65.55 points. "Media was the top gainer among the sectors followed by energy while profit-booking-led correction was seen in the FMCG segment. On the daily chart, the index has formed a spinning top candlestick pattern indicating indecisiveness between the bulls and bears. The level of 24,200 will remains a crucial support while 24,560 is considered as an immediate resistance", Gaggar continued. Out of the 2,770 stocks traded during the day, 1,992 stocks saw advances, while 700 declined, and 78 others remained unchanged. 130 stocks hit their 52-week high during the day, while 14 stocks hit their 52-week low price. 210 stocks hit the upper circuit, or maximum permissible trading price during a singular trading session, while 46 stocks hit the lower circuit, or the minimum permissible price allowed during one trading session.

IT giant TCS declared their Q1FY25 results. As Siddhesh Mehta, Research Analyst, SAMCO Securities highlighted, the company beat D-street estimates in terms of results. "The company reported a constant currency revenue growth of 4.4% in Q1FY25, up from 2.2% in Q4FY24. Despite the overall macroeconomic environment continuing to indicate uncertainty, with profits declining by 3.18% QoQ, all major markets displayed sequential growth. While revenue growth for India's largest IT services companies in Q1FY25 remains strong, profit and margin pressures persist", he continued. TCS opened the day in green, trading at Rs 4,018.8, up by 2.42%.

Stock market 12 July: Sensex inches up over 80k, LTI Mindtree, Tata Steel, BPCL take early lead

Benchmark indices <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> and Sensex recovered from their losses last week to close in greens on Monday. While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

Amidst sectoral indices, IT inched up by over 1%, while media and metal lost over 1% each during the trade. Following a subdued start, the Nifty traded within a narrow range and ultimately ended at the 24,143 level. Sector-wise, metal and pharma stocks were the top losers, while resilience in the IT sector helped limit the overall decline for the second consecutive session. The broader indices also slipped, losing over half a percent each". "With no major domestic triggers, participants are now looking to global markets for direction. An intermediate recovery in the US markets is providing some relief, but ongoing pressure in select heavyweight stocks across sectors is limiting the recovery. In light of the uncertain outlook, we recommend maintaining a cautious stance and adopting a hedged approach until there is more clarity on the market’s next move", continued Mishra.

Stock market closing: TCS, HCL Tech, Infosys amidst leading gainers during the day

Mumbai, Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher for the third straight session on Friday, following gains in index majors L&amp;T, ITC and Maruti and a record rally in the US markets after the Federal Reserve indicated three rate cuts this year. After falling in early trade, markets staged a smart recovery. However, a sharp correction in IT and tech stocks limited the rise. During the day, it jumped 474.43 points or 0.65 per cent to 73,115.62. The NSE Nifty advanced 84.80 points or 0.39 per cent to 22,096.75. As Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, "the index is in a strong uptrend and one should opt for buy on dips strategy. With the overbought conditions in the Auto sector, we recommend booking profits; however, selective buying can be seen in the ancillary space. We are bullish on ONGC and Reliance from the Energy space. The FMCG and IT sectors have given a breakout which indicates an extension of the current up-move. Keep an eye out for Colpal, Dabur, GodrejCP, ITC, Nestle-Tech Mahindra and Wipro. "We are bullish on the Pharma sector but it is approaching the higher end of the rising channel indicating a short-term reversal in the form of profit booking, however, the overall uptrend remains intact. Some stocks from the Textile segment have given a strong breakout namely Cantabil and Welspun Living", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities highlights that in the past week, the benchmark indices showed positive momentum, with the Nifty ending 0.73 percent higher and the Sensex gaining 522 points. The FMCG and IT sectors recorded strong momentum, both rallying over 3 percent. However, the Metal and Reality sectors experienced selling pressure despite the overall market momentum. "We believe that 24,400/80,100 and 24,350/79,800 would be crucial support levels for trend-following traders. On the higher side, 24,550-24,600/80,100-80,200 would serve as the resistance zone. A close above 24,650 could drive the market towards 24,900-25,000/81,000/81,300. Conversely, dropping below 24,350/79,800 could alter the sentiment, leading to a retest of the level of 24,150-24,100/79,500-79,100. The strategy should be reducing weak long positions between 24,550/24,600 levels. Buying is advisable around 24,250/24,200, with a stop loss at 24,100 on a closing basis. After starting off on a volatile note, the equity market staged a recovery in the second half of the day, especially after 2.30 pm as the 30-share benchmark Sensex soared 535.15 points or 0.74 per cent to close at 73,158.24 points. As many as 22 Sensex constituents closed in the positive territory and the index touched an intra-day high of 73,256.39 points. The broader Nifty climbed 162.40 points or 0.74 per cent to hit its highest ever closing level of 22,217.45 points. During the intra-day trade, the index touched the peak of 22,252.50 points and 25 Nifty constituents ended the session with gains. "The domestic market staged a recovery from the day's low, buoyed by positive PMI data from the Eurozone and an impressive earnings report from US tech stocks. "The broader market showed resilience as India's economic activity continued to expand in February, with both service and manufacturing PMI improving. Consequently, it resulted in outperformance in discretionary stocks and capital goods," <keyword id="19969359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinod-nair" source="keywords">Vinod Nair</keyword>, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said. This has the potential to negatively impact global stock markets,” Vijayakumar added. In the sectoral indices, a mixed performance was seen on the National Stock Exchange, with Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty FMCG gaining, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Private Bank declined. In the quarterly announcements today, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Trent, Rail Vikas Nigam, Linde India, Lupin, NHPC, and Aditya Birla Fashion &amp; Retail are some of the major companies set to announce their second-quarter financial performance. US elections, Fed meeting, China's meet on stimulus will keep pressure on Indian stocks: Experts

The stock tanked 6.12 per cent to settle at Rs 1,321.60 on the <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse" source="keywords">BSE</keyword>. During the day, it tanked 6.76 per cent to Rs 1,312.50. It fell 5.89 per cent to Rs 1,325 on the NSE. It was the biggest laggard among the Sensex and Nifty firms. The company's market capitalisation (mcap) eroded Rs 8,407.73 crore to Rs 1,29,011.81 crore. In the broader equity market, the 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse-sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> declined 359.64 points to settle at 70,700.67, and the Nifty fell 101.35 points to 21,352.60. For the reporting quarter, its overall revenue from operations declined 4.6 per cent to Rs 13,101 crore from Rs 13,734 crore in the year-ago period. However, it was a sharp decline in operating profits, with margins narrowing to 5.4 per cent from 12 per cent in the year-ago period, which seems to have impacted the headline profit.
