Tech Mahindra rallies more than 30% in 30 days as analysts seem bullish on 5G opportunities for the blue chip stock

New Delhi, Nov 21 () IT services major Tech Mahindra on Thursday said it has signed an agreement with Business Finland for research and development in 5G and 6G.
 Tech Mahindra will develop, pilot and implement state-of-the-art digital products and services to foster growth, productivity and innovations in the area of 5G and 6G, a statement said.
 As part of the partnership, the Mumbai-based company will set up an innovation lab in Finland to foster growth and innovation, a statement said, adding that the facility will be a platform for key players in Finland such as universities, research institutes, government and companies to collaborate.
 "Business Finland will work together with Tech Mahindra to explore the possibility of establishing 5G/6G Innovation Hub in Finland. I am sure that this cooperation will be mutually beneficial and provide great opportunities for both Finland and Tech Mahindra," Finland's Minister for Employment Timo Harakka said.
 Jagdish Mitra, chief strategy officer and head of growth, Tech Mahindra said the Finnish technology ecosystem is one of the most progressive in Europe.
 "Their strategic focus on building 'technologies for the future' has been the cornerstone, and the initiative towards developing 6G technology and further working on 5G use-cases aligns well with our TechMNxt charter, which is our global initiative to leverage future technologies to solve real business problems," he added.
 The collaboration with Business Finland and the newly setup Innovation Centre will enable Tech Mahindra to leverage their expertise in this space and establish the company as a globally recognised leader in 5G and 6G, he said. SR RVK

The roll-out of the new network has slipped on the list of priorities for many in the battle against the pandemic. Even though Tech Mahindra’s focus is squarely on 5G, there is a lack of clarity around the timeline, according to Motilal Oswal. While the IT services company will definitely gain if and when 5G emerges full throttle, especially as a partner with the Japanese Rakuten Mobile, it won’t likely be in the current fiscal year. “Activity in the telecom sector is starting to happen, both in the IT and networks side. But the network side revival has been slower. It has grown slower than the rest of the business. We still believe 5G will appear more in FY 22, and not in the current fiscal,” Tech Mahindra CFO Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an interview last month. Currently, Tech Mahindra sees 5G as a $63 to $83 billion opportunity between 2020 to 2025. A new strategy for cloud and platforms Global spending on cloud services is expected to hit $1 trillion in 2024 spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). The strongest growth in the ‘as a service’ category set to account for more to 60% of cloud revenues worldwide. Within that, Tech Mahindra is targeting the smallest cloud category — infrastructure build. This includes hardware, software, and support for enterprise private clouds and service provider public clouds. During his last stint as CFO, Kulkarni was at helm from 2013 to 2018. After his five year tenure was over, rather than leave the company, Kulkarni stuck around and served as a Senior Advisor for the IT services giant. In fact, Kulkarni’s been with Tech Mahindra for 18 and a half years now. When he first took up the post of CFO, the company was at the cusp of merging with its subsidiary Mahindra Satyam. This time around, Tech Mahindra is waiting on the boom from 5G to spur revenue growth and expand margins. Hologram fans at stadiums To set up the experience, the stadium will have to bear the cost of the technology. “Stadiums will be required to have proper 5G infrastructure and will also have to install 5G enabled cameras,” said Mitra. IT company <keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> expects to soon hit USD 7 billion revenue run rate for the current fiscal year, out of which the telecom vertical is estimated to contribute USD 3 billion, a top official of the company said on Monday. Tech Mahindra Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer CP <keyword id="45924" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gurnani" source="Orion">Gurnani</keyword> told PTI that the company has hit a run rate of USD 1 billion (about Rs 8,300 crore), from 5G solutions that it provides to telecom companies. "We are at an annual revenue run rate of USD 6.6 billion. We expect to reach USD 7 billion run rate for this fiscal. Telecom vertical is expected to contribute USD 3 billion to this. We have already touched a revenue run rate of USD 1 billion from 5G services," Gurnani said at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. Tech Mahindra posted a 5 per cent decline in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 1,297 crore for the December quarter. Revenue from operations, however, increased 20 per cent to Rs 13,734.6 crore from Rs 11,451 crore a year ago. All the sectors within telcos, be it the growth of fibre, fixed wireless, new product build and all the transformation on the digital side, have continued to provide us growth," he said. Talking about the impact of the global macroeconomic situation on the company, <keyword id="30343" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="vyas" source="Orion">Vyas</keyword> said uncertainty still remains across the globe and there will be intense pressure on the cost of services. "The overall macroeconomic situation still remains uncertain. People will need to conserve as we go forward. It is an important opportunity for us to continue to drive cost optimization through simplification. The broad macroeconomic situation also will evolve as we come out of this uncertain time. People will need to continue to innovate more. Particularly with the whole focus on generative AI as well as the way metaverse will be used by enterprises," he said. Vyas said that globally the company has acquired 42 new logos this year to whom it is providing network transformation including solutions for private 5G networks. "It is essentially a network on the cloud, software-defined network and private network. The growth driver has been a requirement of enterprises to simplify their operations and modernise tracking of their business data," he said. Gurnani said several companies are engaging with Tech Mahindra to simplify, modernise and monetise their networks, and the rollout of the 5G network across the globe will continue to drive the business of the company. "We are very keen to look at how the rollout of 5G and deployments will happen. It is a big year from a deployment standpoint. It is a big year for the modernisation of the digital stack. I think telcos will look to find adjacencies with fintech, learning, manufacturing, IoT etc for growth. We are very excited about 2023. There are a lot of case studies that will emerge in all these areas," Vyas said. New Delhi, May 10 () IT company Tech Mahindra expects 5G rollout, demand for home connectivity and digitisation will drive business growth in the coming days, senior officials of the company said.The company expects short term setbacks for businesses due to coronavirus pandemic, however, telecom clients will support the business growth. "There will be some headwinds, and those headwinds will be common to everybody, but company continues to innovate, continues to leverage every of my acquisition and certain businesses where the expansion is likely to happen faster, for example, digital, for example, healthcare, we are doing a double click or a double drilling," Tech Mahindra MD and CEO CP Gurnani said in an investors call.According to the details uploaded on the company's website, 93 per cent employees in the company's IT team and around 85 per cent in the business process services were working from home after the lockdown was announced.Tech Mahindra CEO for Network Services Manish Vyas said that major service providers continue to remain focused on investment in network expansion and 5G services."The new workspace is clearly shifting more towards the home and that is something telcos, particularly the large ones who have been incumbents, they are all going to be looking at that product mix and all looking at digitisation and strengthening the product mix with home as the new access of growth," Vyas said.He said that a lot of discussions are going on telecom players towards digitisation of homes.During the lockdown, most of the employees across businesses are working from home.IT major TCS has already announced plans to allow 75 per cent of employees to work from home by 2025.Tech Mahindra in the quarter ended March 31, 2020 reported 29 per cent dip in the March quarter consolidated net profit at Rs 803.9 crore owing to narrowing of margins due to factors including a surge in COVID-19 related costs.For the 2019-20 financial year, the Mahindra group company reported 6.15 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 4,033 crore. Tech Mahindra expects 5G, home connectivity to drive growth

New Delhi, Jan 31 () IT services firm Tech Mahindra on Friday reported a 4.7 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 1,145.9 crore for the December 2019 quarter.
 The Mumbai-based firm had registered a net profit (attributable to owners of the company) at Rs 1,202.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal, Tech Mahindra said in a statement.
 However, its revenue from operations grew 7.9 per cent to Rs 9,654.6 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 8,943.7 crore in the year-ago period, it added.
 Earnings per share (EPS) was at Rs 13.13. In dollar terms, the net profit was up 1.3 per cent sequentially to USD 160.6 million, while revenue grew 5.1 per cent to USD 1,353 million in the said quarter.
 This is a quarter of strong growth across the company's Communications and Enterprise businesses, Tech Mahindra Managing Director and CEO C P Gurnani said.
 "We continue to win marquee deals and are well poised to capitalise on new market opportunities with technology shifts like 5G, which continues to be a key focus area in the year ahead," he added.
 The company's total headcount was at 1,30,839 people, a reduction of 683 people from the September 2019 quarter.
 The company witnessed substantial operational and financial metrics improvement with healthy cash flow generation this quarter, Manoj Bhat, chief financial officer at Tech Mahindra said.
 "We continue to invest in emerging technologies and streamline delivery as we ready ourselves for the next phase of growth," he added.
 Tech Mahindra also announced the acquisition of 70 per cent stake in Bengaluru-headquartered Cerium Systems.
 "Cerium will boost the company's Engineering Services practice in VLSI (very large scale integration) and Embedded Software.
 "We continue to invest in niche digital assets complementing our service offerings. Cerium provides cutting edge solutions with a strong foothold in global semiconductor industry," Tech Mahindra Head of Corporate Development and Portfolio Companies Vivek Agarwal said.

New Delhi, May 15 () Makers Lab, the research and development arm of Tech Mahindra, on Friday said it has leveraged Artificial Intelligence to conduct research and find potential therapeutic drugs for treatment of COVID-19."Testimony of a strong synergy amongst academia, businesses and independent researchers to fight a global pandemic, Tech Mahindra is also collaborating with a renowned bio-scientist ( Uday Saxena) for plausible therapeutic drugs and research laboratories for synthesizing and testing these compounds," a statement said.Tech Mahindra MD and CEO CP Gurnani said COVID-19 continues to disrupt the socio-economic order, impacting lives and livelihood globally. Once the virus cannot enter the host cell, it is harmless," Nikhil Malhotra, Global Head of Makers Lab said.He added that the unit's strategy included finding a GRAS (generally recognized as safe) agent which can inhibit the virus and Makers Lab has successfully utilised two areas of research - one is molecular docking on approved FDA compounds and medicines. Use of AI helped the research team to evaluate multiple scenarios with different parameters while finding how molecules dock with the main protease, he said.The technique, molecular docking, enables search for therapeutically potent drugs and molecules in real time, to find compounds which can act as inhibitors against a viral protein computationally. Tech Mahindra conducted molecular docking studies across 19 FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved ligands and anti-viral drugs on the main protease of the virus, the statement said."There is more work needed to be done to move the process from molecular docking to actual drug design, testing and drug development at scale. For the full financial year, the net profit was up 9.8 per cent to ₹4,428 crore, while revenue from operations was higher by 2.7 per cent to ₹37,855.1 crore as compared to 2019-20.
