<keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> on Friday said it has approved a proposal for the acquisition of a 100 per cent stake in <keyword id="12852751" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="allyis-india" source="Orion">Allyis India</keyword> and <keyword id="894535" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="green-investments" source="Orion">Green Investments</keyword>, for a total consideration of up to $125 million. The acquisition is expected to bolster Tech Mahindra's capabilities in digital experience solutions - learning and development, marketing, instructional design; and engineering - cloud and automation, analytics, and technical support services. Tech Mahindra would pay total consideration of up to $125 million, including employment-related and performance-related earnouts, the company said in a regulatory filing. "...the company approved the proposal to acquire 100 per cent equity shares in Allyis India Private Limited and the company's wholly-owned subsidiary viz., Tech Mahindra (Americas) Inc. approved the proposal to acquire 100 per cent equity shares in Green Investments LLC, holding company for Allyis Group," Tech Mahindra said in a BSE filing. The target entity is headquartered in Seattle, USA and has more than 660 employees. "For the financial year ending December 31, 2020, the target had revenue of $39.6 million," it said. Outlining the details of the target, Tech Mahindra said it offers technology consulting and managed services that help organisations reduce costs and improve performance. While Allyis India Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 2018, Green Investments LLC was incorporated in 2013. The turnover of the two entities stood at $39.6 million in the calendar year 2020. "The CY21 (the calendar year 2021) turnover, for the first 11 months starting 1 January 2021 to 30 November 2021 is at $45.7 million," it added. Tech Mahindra buys US-based Allyis India, Green Investments for $125 million

Tech Mahindra chief CP <keyword id="45924" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gurnani" source="Orion">Gurnani</keyword> wants to transition from being a long serving captain in the IT industry to a "coach" after he retires from the company in December this year. The nomination and remuneration committee has extended the tenure of Gurnani till December 19, 2023 as it looks to work on the succession plan of Gurnani. While he did not divulge any further details on the succession plan, sources have indicated that internal candidates -- <keyword id="2493116" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jagdish-mitra" source="Orion">Jagdish Mitra</keyword>, Manish <keyword id="30343" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vyas" source="Orion">Vyas</keyword>, <keyword id="2173310" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lakshmanan-chidambaram" source="Orion">Lakshmanan Chidambaram</keyword> are among top contenders for the post. Gurnani said that the succession plan will be finalised by the committee as per the corporate governance norms of the company. "I've done the same business for a very long time. I became a CXO at the age of 38 and am now stepping down at the age of 65. All I'm trying to say is that I've been a playing captain for a very long time. I will become a coach. I will no longer be a playing captain," Gurnani said. One of the longest serving CEOs in the technology sector, Gurnani told PTI that would like to see the other side of the world and pursue things that are close to his heart. "I have been one of the longest serving CEOs of the technology sector. I think it is fair that I get to see what the other side of the world looks like and I'm not talking about travel. I'm talking about a few things that I've always wanted to do in life. It is also good for the corporation that we get a new leader because a bit of rotation is like getting more oxygen into the system," Gurnani said. While talking about business, Gurnani said Tech Mahindra will continue to deepen its presence in Japan and Europe and look at opening delivery centres closer to the home of its employees. "I have always been a very big admirer of Japan, I will continue to create much deeper business interest in Japan. Frankly, I think Europe is a big opportunity now. Because overall Europe has felt the impact of the war. "The war has been closest to them. Every individual in Europe has paid a price by inflation and higher energy bills. I believe that some of our cost transformation initiatives would be very helpful to European clients. So, my focus will be Japan and Europe," he said. Gurnani said that the technology sector has matured and they have continued to serve their consumers, businesses, enterprises and corporates around the world by not taking a position. "The only area where there has been some conversations is there organizations which are using cyber attacks as a weapon," Gurnani said but declined to reveal further details. When asked about a broad strategic action plan that the company is planning to put in place this year, Gurani said that Tech Mahindra will look at distributing delivery centres across the country and near to the homes of its employees. "We continue to make technological investments in the future of technology. Right now it is AI, cloud, metaverse and we have already started investing in quantum computing. We want to be ahead of the curve. There are some of our products which I think will be able to commercialize them a lot better," Gurnani said. Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani looks to transition from captain to coach post retirement

<ul><li>NASSCOM and Bank of America are at odds about the job cuts set to occur across the Indian IT industry in the ongoing fiscal year.</li><li>Bank of America asserts that up to three million people could find themselves unemployed as a result of automation while NASSCOM asserts that only 1.4 million are employed in the ‘low skill’ segment to begin with.</li><li>Companies in the Indian IT sector may continue to be ‘net hirers’ in FY22, but that doesn’t mean that people won’t be losing their jobs to software programs that can perform day-to-day tasks better than humans. </li></ul>India’s leading information technology (IT) lobby, NASSCOM, and analysts at Bank of America are sparring over how many employees in the sector are set to lose their jobs this year. The global financial services company gauged that around 9 million people are employed in such roles in India, which means 3 million — one third of the total — will find themselves unemployed by the end of the year. NASSCOM has hit back saying that only 1.5 million people are employed in low-skilled and BPO roles, not 9 million. Which means, even if there are to be job losses, at the same rate as Bank of America is predicting, they may only amount to around half a million. However, according to NASSCOM, existing business process outsourcing (BPO) employees won’t be impacted by automation because most of the work that is being done now involves “higher end expertise”. That is to say, that ‘low skilled’ jobs have already been ‘filtered out’ — employees were either fired or upskilled — over the last few years. But one of its members, Tech Mahindra, disagrees. During an <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/it-companies-set-to-slash-3-million-jobs-by-2022-due-to-automation-report/story/441821.html">analyst call</a> in February, the company’s chief financial officer (CFO), Manoj Bhat, disclosed that automation will result in savings for the company. ever buyout by the Bengaluru-based company. The shares of Wipro have led the IT pack ever since the new chief executive officer (CEO) Thierry Delaporte took charge in June last year. The company made about $2 billion last year from IT services and if Capco delivers the same amount of revenue as it did last year, it could add another $700 million to Wipro’s topline. That’s a 35% bump up a year straight away. Wipro has acquired Ampion, an Australia-based provider of cyber security, devops and quality engineering services. The move will strengthen its commitment towards clients and stakeholders in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The acquisition will close in the quarter ending June 30, 2021. TCS, Infosys and HCL Tech will show a good quarter but Wipro’s earnings will outshine them all ⁠— here’s why

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) reported a 12.9% YoY growth in profits. Its Profit After Tax (PAT) for the first quarter of the current financial year is at Rs 5709 Crores. 
 
The company’s total revenue for Q1 is up by 16.1% YoY and 6.0% QoQ at Rs 25,668 Crores. 
 
The company margin reported at on ehigher than what analysts predicted. It is currently at 26.3%. Utilization came in 86.3%. And the company reported volume growth of 4.8%. 
 
Commenting on the results, TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran said, "Demand from core markets like North America &amp; greater traction for 'Digital' solutions has driven volumes &amp; growth in Q1." "We are investing to train over 100,000 professionals this year in all relevant technologies," he added. 
 
TCS has fuelled hopes in India’s IT earnings this quarter which is expected to be good for most except Tech Mahindra.

net Q1 profits of Rs 5709 Crores

Headquartered in Luxembourg in Europe, Chappuis Halder is a nearly 150-people consulting firm, with main offices in North America, Europe, and South-East Asia, with reputation for its financial services leading expertise. With Chappuis Halder's specific industry focus, the acquisition will help Capgemini strengthen its capabilities to advise banking, wealth management and insurance clients in North America, Europe and South-East Asia, the company said in a statement. "Chappuis Halder's addition will contribute further to our in-depth expertise of Financial Services, a key condition to be able to advise and help our clients in the industry with their business transformation," said Anirban Bose, CEO of Capgemini's Financial Services Strategic Business Unit. The transaction is expected to be completed within the coming months. The acquisition will also help Capgemini's in-demand specialist consulting services in environment, social and governance (ESG) and climate risk strategy. Technology services major Capgemini buys Chappuis Halder to boost financial services business

In the previous session, Sensex ended 452.73 points or 0.99% higher at 46,006.69, and Nifty climbed 137.90 points or 1.03% to 13,466.30. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth ₹1,153 crore on a net basis on Tuesday, according to provisional exchange data. "Concerns pertaining to the new coronavirus strain and possibility of imminent slowdown in global economy in the near term emerged as a threat for global equities, which may result in investors moving back to defensive stocks in coming days," said Binod Modi Head-Strategy at Reliance Securities. He noted that India is better placed compared to other nations given consistent reduction in new coronavirus cases and improvement in recovery rates. "While domestic equities are likely to remain volatile and trade in range bound in the near term, 3QFY21 corporate earnings are going to be crucial for the markets," he said. US equities finished mostly lower as continued surge in coronavirus cases in America and Europe weighed on investor sentiments, which also overshadowed satisfactory progress of vaccination roll out and passage of USD 900 billion stimulus bill, he added. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo were trading on a positive note in mid-session deals. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 1.42% lower at USD 49.37 per barrel. That is if you still use those booklets. Since your bank’s mobile app allows you to do all this and much more online, can there be more digitisation in banking? Well, the new CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ashok Vaswani thinks that a lot more technology can be deployed in banks. As the CEO of Barclays Bank UK, Vaswani knows how the lives of consumers can transform with digitisation. He is also cognisant of the fact that a bank does not only cater to millennials or GenZ population. At Barclays, he had a team of tech experts to help consumers who were even in their 1990s such that they could learn not just digital banking but even chat with grandkids on Skype or Zoom. That is how the new CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank thinks, given that his head and heart are in the right place. At a time when banks are struggling to keep consumers happy while maintaining high profit margins, Vaswani could well be the man who can plug the gaps. And, if there’s something he can talk about for hours, it is the technological transformation of financial services. Not only is he cognisant of the ease that digital banking brings, but also the risk that comes along with it. This generational shift at India’s fourth largest private bank in India clearly wants to up its game in the years to come by leveraging technology to transform not only its operations but also create new and better services for its customers. Imagine an AI Bot that actually tells consumers every month on how spending on eating out is much more than feasible or that average monthly savings are not good enough when you retire. Yes, Vaswani believes that is the next stage of banking as it can open up different ecosystems. In an interview a few years ago at the University of West England, Bristol, he said: “I would submit that a lot more digitisation can happen. Why would I not be able to tell you, you are earning so much, you are spending this much and you should be saving. Can you imagine, you spent so much money on Uber and that you should be careful?” There are so many aspects of digital transformation that limits are frankly only set in the mind. As the CEO of Barclays UK, he has not just built a lot of products for consumers but even their confidence in the bank and the banking system. It is a refreshing change to hear a CEO talk about confidence in the company and not just on margins. Vaswani has a proven track record spanning three and a half decades across the world’s leading banks. He was initially at Citigroup and more recently, at Barclays, where he built and grew the business to a scale. He brings with him significant executional experience with a high degree of compliance and industrial strength across corporate and consumer businesses. Vaswani was Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Bank, UK and subsequently CEO of their global consumer, private, corporate and payments businesses and Member of the group executive committee. Earlier, he was CEO Citigroup Asia Pacific and Member of the Citigroup Global Operating Management Committees. He also built and ran various country and regional businesses across geographies. What makes him interesting is that he has not only run global banks but has even been president of Pagaya Technologies, a US-Israeli AI fintech company. This kind of exposure makes him a much better candidate than any insider at Kotak Mahindra Bank. At last count, there were three top contenders for the job, but Uday Kotak has roped in an outsider given the extent of the transformation that the bank will need to undertake to remain relevant in the face of competition from other fintechs. Ashok is married to Veena and their daughter is working in the United States of America. It is interesting that Uday Kotak, first generation founder and promoter of Kotak Mahindra Bank, has brought in an outsider to run the bank. Organisations typically are wary of bringing in outsiders at top jobs mostly because of the friction that results from such hiring due to cultural fitment and acceptance of a known candidate. It is easier for the rank and file to accept an insider rather than an outsider but Uday Kotak has chosen to take the risky route. While in some unfortunate cases like Infosys, where Vishal Sikka did not fare too well when promoters stepped away in 2014, the experiment of outsiders has been rather successful at the Tata Group. When Ratan Tata took over the reins at the Tata Group, he brought in Kishor Chaukar who came from ICICI Securities to head Tata Industries. Ravi Kant came in from Philips India in 1999, and headed commercial vehicles for Tata Motors before becoming MD in 2005. In 1998, the then vice-chairman of Hindustan Lever (now known as Hindustan Unilever), moved to Tata Sons as executive director. Typically, Indian corporations bring in overseas talent when they believe that the requisite skills are not available in India. But given that India’s private banking sector has grown and flourished under the stewardship of homegrown talent, this shift is an interesting move by Uday Kotak, who clearly sees merit in Vaswani’s experience outside of India. No wonder Uday Kotak, Founder and Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank said: “I am proud that we bring a ‘Global Indian’ home to build Kotak and India of tomorrow.” Interestingly, Ashok Vaswani is a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics and Accountancy, from the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics (Bombay University), CA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, CS from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and Executive Education from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Uday Kotak too is alumnus of Sydenham College and has a postgraduate degree in management studies in 1982 from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.

The CEO who believes that there’s a lot more to digitise at banks

With 21 offers, Amazon emerged as the top recruiter for the summer placement process for the Class of 2018 of the Post Graduate Programme in Management at <keyword id="19483" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIM-ahmedabad">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword> that was completed within three clusters. 
 
As many as 130 students made dream applications to firms of their choice. They were seen being placed across 17 sectors and functions of their choice by the end of the placement process.

Apart from Amazon, other top recruiters were - Accenture Strategy which made 16 offers, the highest among Management Consulting firms; Bank of America Merrill Lynch made 6 offers, highest among global banks. American Express and FinIQ were the joint top recruiters in the BFSI cohort having made 6 offers each. 
 <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> recruited 10 students and was the highest recruiter in the Consumer Goods cohort while <keyword id="6359480" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla">Aditya Birla</keyword> Group and Tata Administrative Service were the joint top recruiters in the General Management cohort with 10 offers each. 
 <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> was the top recruiter in the consumer Tech cohort with 7 offers. Vedanta, a new recruiter in the core manufacturing and infra cohort made 6 offers. 
 
Interestingly, firms were grouped into cohorts based on the profile offered, and groups of cohorts were invited to campus across different clusters. 
 
As in previous years, students were provided with the flexibility of making “dream” applications to firms of their choice in a subsequent cluster even with an offer in hand. This gave students the flexibility and choice to build careers in sectors of their preference. This year, the students also had the opportunity to work under the mentorship of Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship on their entrepreneurial ideas. 5 students opted out of the placement process to work on their own ventures.

Cluster 1: Accenture Top Recruiter 
 Making 17 offers, Accenture Strategy emerged as the top recruiter during the Cluster 1 of the summer internship placements that began on November 5. More than 40 firms participated. Some of the other prominent recruiters included Bain &amp; Co., Bank of America Merrill Lynch, <keyword id="6386585" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barclays">Barclays</keyword>, Citibank, McKinsey &amp; Co., <keyword id="48670" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Morgan-Stanley">Morgan Stanley</keyword>, Strategy&amp;, The Boston Consulting Group etc. 
 
Cluster 2: Amazon Top Recruiter 
E-commerce major Amazon emerged as the top recruiter in cluster two of the summer internship placement process that took place on November 8, by giving 25 offers across its six roles. Cluster 2 comprised of five cohorts: Consumer Goods, Consumer Services, General Management and Leadership, Retail B2B &amp; B2C and Pharma &amp; healthcare. The recruiters in the General Management cohort included Conglomerates such as Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra and Tata Administrative Services (TAS) which offered leadership roles to students. The recruiters in the Consumer Goods and Services Cohort included Coke, General Mills, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Marico, Mondelez, Procter &amp; Gamble and others. Retail B2B &amp; B2C firms like Amazon and Zilingo recruited students for business development, product management, operations, marketing and sales strategy &amp; growth roles. 
 
Cluster 3: Microsoft 
The third cluster held on November 11 saw Microsoft as the largest recruiter with 7 offers. This cluster comprised six cohorts: Analytics, Banking and Financial Services, Consumer Tech, IT Consulting, Infra and Core Manufacturing and Government and Social Services.
