Stocks of the Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) group have been under selling pressure and were the top Sensex losers on Thursday. M&amp;M slumped 6.5 per cent after the company announced equity stake buy in RBL Bank. On Wednesday, it made an announcement of acquiring a 3.53 per cent stake in RBL Bank as an investment at a cost of Rs 417 crore. “We may consider further investment subject to pricing, regulatory approvals and required procedures. However, in no circumstance will it exceed 9.9 per cent”, M&amp;M said in a filing. In a communication, RBL Bank said that the holding of M&amp;M Limited as per the last beneficiary position as on July 21 as received from the depository (NSDL) is 3.53 per cent of the total paid up share capital of the bank. “We being a listed company, for trading in the shares of the Bank there is no pre-approval required from the bank except for the fact that as per the Master Direction -- <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (Acquisition and Holding of Shares or Voting Rights in Banking Companies) Directions, 2023, any shareholder who wishes to acquire 5 per cent or more of the shareholding of the bank is required to make an application to Reserve Bank of India to seek their prior approval for such acquisition. No such application has been received by us till date,” the bank said. <keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> was down more than 3 per cent after the IT major’s poor show in Q1 results. Motilal Oswal Financial Services said in a report that Tech Mahindra delivered a weak 1QFY24 performance, with revenue declining 4.2 per cent QoQ in CC to $1.6 billion, missing our estimate of a 2.5 per cent decline. "Due to the sharp dip in revenue, Tech Mahindra also saw a steep fall in profitability, exacerbated by a 200bp one-time impact from bankruptcy of a client. We expect the company’s profitability to improve from 2Q onward, partially through sharp cost control and headcount cuts despite high utilisation," the report said. "While we expect a potential for performance improvement after the leadership refresh in Jun’23, we believe this will take time given the macro headwinds and limited flexibility to invest in growth because of weak current profitability. We remain on the sidelines as we feel the current valuation fairly factors in the uncertainties around growth and margin. We cut our FY24/FY25 EPS estimates by 8-10 per cent on weak margin and muted outlook." Emkay Global Financial Services said Tech Mahindra’s revenue slumped 4 per cent QoQ (4.2 per cent CC) to $1.6 billion, missing our estimates. EBITM declined by 440bps QoQ to 6.8 per cent, well below our estimate even after adjusting for one-offs. Deal wins remain weak, and stand at $359 million (TTM deal-intake down 25 per cent YoY). Tech Mahindra has failed to capitalise on its strength in the areas of communications, ER&amp;D, BPO, XDS, etc, and deliver consistent performance in the past, the note said.

M&M group stocks under pressure after RBL Bank investment, TechM's earnings miss

The acquisition is expected to bolster Tech Mahindra's capabilities in digital experience solutions - learning and development, marketing, instructional design; and engineering - cloud and automation, analytics, and technical support services. Tech Mahindra would pay total consideration of up to $125 million, including employment-related and performance-related earnouts, the company said in a regulatory filing. "...the company approved the proposal to acquire 100 per cent equity shares in Allyis India Private Limited and the company's wholly-owned subsidiary viz., Tech Mahindra (Americas) Inc. approved the proposal to acquire 100 per cent equity shares in Green Investments LLC, holding company for Allyis Group," Tech Mahindra said in a BSE filing. The target entity is headquartered in Seattle, USA and has more than 660 employees. "For the financial year ending December 31, 2020, the target had revenue of $39.6 million," it said. Outlining the details of the target, Tech Mahindra said it offers technology consulting and managed services that help organisations reduce costs and improve performance. While Allyis India Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 2018, Green Investments LLC was incorporated in 2013. The turnover of the two entities stood at $39.6 million in the calendar year 2020. "The CY21 (the calendar year 2021) turnover, for the first 11 months starting 1 January 2021 to 30 November 2021 is at $45.7 million," it added. Tech Mahindra buys US-based Allyis India, Green Investments for $125 million

All the five top losers in the Nifty50 pack were tech majors — with <keyword id="20740180" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lti-mindtree" source="keywords">LTI Mindtree</keyword> and HCL Tech falling by around 3%. <keyword id="19945574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="keywords">Wipro</keyword>, LTI Mindtree, <keyword id="19906778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infosys" source="keywords">Infosys</keyword> and TCS also slipped anywhere between 2-3%. Accenture, which is listed in the US, declared soft earnings, which was expected. The surprise, however, was that it lowered its FY24 revenue guidance to 1-3% from the earlier projections of 2-5%. Moreover, it’s now expecting a higher contribution of acquisitions to its revenue at 3%, from 2% earlier. This implies that its organic forecast of revenue growth is low, indicating a weak demand for IT services in the market. “Accenture barely cuts guidance. Barring the Covid period, the last time ACN reduced the lower end of its guidance was in 3QFY13. expectations, say brokerages The IT sector had been under immense pressure in FY24, as the US and other global clients cut down on discretionary spending. Moreover, delays and furloughs in the system have been leading to revenue leakage — leading to marginal growth in revenue vs slight falls seen over the last three quarters. The street, however, was expecting a better show in FY25 as compared to FY24 which is expected to be weaker than the year before. The confidence came from early this year even since the stocks have been pricing in a possible interest rate cut by the <keyword id="19951097" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-fed" source="keywords">US Fed</keyword>. While the latter indicated a soft monetary policy outlook recently, Accenture earnings point to extended trouble in the sector. “A likely weak FY24 exit, as suggested by our recent checks, will further pull down FY25 estimates, in our view. We, therefore, see further calibration in the Street’s (and to an extent ours) growth expectations now. That should result in valuation contraction as well. We continue to remain cautious on the sector,” says J M Financial. Nuvama however believes that the expectations have already been low, and sees a medium-term potential of the sector. “We believe FY25 Street estimates, for Indian IT companies, have been adequately rationalised, and have little downgrade risk, from current levels. We maintain our positive stance on the sector and expect a sustainable strong demand environment to drive strong earnings growth over the next three years,” says Nuvama. The Nifty IT index was trading 1.87% per cent lower on Friday morning at 35,361.3. Over the last three months, the index has witnessed a drop of 0.89% given the continued pressure on most Indian IT stocks.

Tech stocks tumble after Accenture guidance signals weak demand ahead

All the IT stocks picked up after the two leading companies in the sector – TCS and Infosys – declared their earnings onThursday evening. TCS reported 1% sequential revenue growth above expectations of a flat growth. Its EBIT margins however hit a seven-quarter high even as its deal wins remained moderate at $8.1 billion, missing its guidance. But it also signalled a possible bottoming out of stress in the key segment of banking, financial <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/tcs-expects-the-bfsi-needle-to-start-moving-this-quarter/articleshow/106749184.cms">services and insurance (BFSI) segment</a>. “Management (of TCS) alluded to a macro environment similar to last quarter, with the long-term demand environment remaining strong. It called out its BFSI vertical bottoming out – a big read across for the entire sector, in our opinion,” said a report by Nuvama. The tech major surprised the street in a seasonally weak quarter, with an impact of furloughs. “We were expecting a flattish revenue growth in rupee terms while the company reported earnings that came above the expectations. The best thing is despite a seasonally weak quarter with macro-economic headwinds, TCS performed very well on most earnings parameters,” said Prashanth Tapse, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities. Infosys reported a 1% sequential decline in constant currency, which was lower than the 2% decline that the street expected. The Bangalore-based tech major shaved off its FY24 revenue guidance for the second time, to 1.5-2%. Yet, brokerages see positive levers. “Strong order book will result in acceleration in growth beyond FY24 as Infosys expects ramp up of many large deal wins of 9M from later part of 4Q. We continue to believe that Infosys’s FY24 growth lag is transient and will likely bounce back in FY25 unless new major adverse macro events unfold in US/Europe,” says a report by Equirus Securities. Constant currency growth of 3.9% in the quarter, while ahead of estimates, was significantly lower than peers. Margins came ahead of expectations while dealflow remained strong,” added the report. “We have witnessed an all rounded performance this quarter with growth across our key markets and industry sectors. We continue to see strong traction in large deal wins as we are helping our customers in integrated digital transformation,” said CP Gurnani, managing director and chief executive officer of Tech Mahindra. While the Fed is positive that it won’t need to step in and adjust interest rates before 2023, some feel that may be too optimistic a point of view. “Very low interest rates, which have held down debt service costs, will eventually rise despite the Federal Reserve’s commitment to an extended period of extremely accommodative monetary policy,” said global agency <a href="https://www.fitchratings.com/research/sovereigns/us-stimulus-will-boost-growth-at-cost-of-higher-deficits-debt-09-03-2021">Fitch Ratings. </a> This is supported by the fact that Fed Funds Futures — where investors can purchase funds in advance at prices they expect to see in the future — are beginning to signal that the US’ central bank could begin increasing rates in 2022. According to DataTrek co-founder <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/us-stocks-are-on-the-verge-of-a-correction-as-interest-rates-begin-to-rise-datatrek-says/articleshow/81094483.cms">Nicholas Colas</a>, the odds of the Federal Reserve shifting its policy stance next year has gone from 2% to anywhere between 5% to 10%. That doesn’t necessarily mean that inflation is on the move, but the trend is “clearly not our friend.” “This means inflation is likely to be a risk well into 2022. The US dollar is expected to get stronger⁠ — that's good news for Indian IT services but not for many others

IT major <keyword id="43217" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> on Monday posted a 34.6 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to ₹1,081.4 crore for the March 2020 <keyword id="6545597" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="quarter">quarter</keyword>. Its net profit stood at ₹803.9 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, Tech Mahindra said in a regulatory filing. The Mumbai-based company saw its <keyword id="1153513" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="consolidated-revenue">consolidated revenue</keyword> from operations increasing 2.5 per cent to ₹9,729.9 crore as against ₹9,490.2 crore in the year-ago quarter, it added. For the full financial year, the net profit was up 9.8 per cent to ₹4,428 crore, while revenue from operations was higher by 2.7 per cent to ₹37,855.1 crore as compared to 2019-20. Tech Mahindra Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer C P Gurnani said, "Our continued focus on cutting-edge technologies has expanded client engagement with large deal wins this quarter. The acquisition will help Tech Mahindra bolster its consulting capabilities in customer experience (CX) and customer management space and move up the value chain in the BPS business. Tech Mahindra's total headcount stood at 1,21,054 at the end of March 2021 quarter, down 847 from the preceding quarter.
