The IIFL Wealth Hurun Report India ranks the richest of Indians — and quite a few of them are from the technology sector. Unlike other industries, globally tech billionaires are self-made, and come from humble beginnings. While India has a few who had legacy businessmen, a new set of entrepreneurs who bet on new-age technology like cloud, mobile payments and digital ad platforms also managed to make their moolah and hence made it to the list. This surge in migration positions India as the largest contributor to Canada's expanding tech workforce, as highlighted by a recent joint report from The Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) and Canada's Tech Network (CTN). Of the more than 32,000 tech professionals who sought greener pastures, 15,097 chose Canada as their new home, underscoring the nation's allure in the tech industry. Following India on the list of contributors was Nigeria, with 1,808 tech workers making their journey to Canada. Experts attribute this phenomenon to Canada's immigration-friendly policies and its competitive edge in terms of labour costs, as per Khalsa Vox. Mississauga and Montreal are the two Canadian cities that stand out as the prime beneficiaries of this influx of global tech talent. Meanwhile, Montreal has witnessed a remarkable 31 per cent growth in its tech ecosystem between 2015 and 2020. The stock soared 13.70 per cent to hit 52-week high of Rs 299 on the BSE. On the NSE, the stock climbed 13.77 per cent to Rs 298.80 -- its 52-week high. Shares of UltraTech Cement also jumped 6.51 per cent to hit the one-year peak of Rs 11,875.95 on the BSE. The board of directors of the company at its meeting held on Thursday approved "making a financial investment to purchase up to 7.06 crore equity shares of the India Cements Ltd," a regulatory filing by UltraTech Cement said. The deal would be at "at a price of up to Rs 267 per share," and this non-controlling financial investment constitutes around 23 per cent of the equity share capital of India Cements, the filing said. India Cements' turnover for financial year 2023-24 stood at Rs 5,112 crore. UltraTech Cement has a consolidated capacity of 152.7 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of grey cement. It has 24 integrated manufacturing units, 33 grinding units, one clinkerisation unit and 8 bulk packaging terminals.

This growth is fueled by multiple factors including increasing enterprise tech spending, India's growing AI talent base and a significant increase in AI investments, the report titled "AI Powered Tech Services: A Roadmap for Future Ready Firms; AI &amp; GenAI's Role in Turbocharging the Industry." The <keyword id="19955786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nasscom" source="keywords">Nasscom</keyword> report in partnership with <keyword id="20058186" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcg" source="keywords">BCG</keyword> was released on Tuesday at the sidelines of the Nasscom Technology &amp; Leadership Forum 2024 here. Globally, investments in AI have seen 24 per cent CAGR since 2019, with 2023 seeing close to USD 83-billion investment, it said. Majority of investments were made in data analytics, GenAI, and ML algos and platforms, as per the report. Notably, around 93 per cent of the investments made by Indian tech services and made-in-India product players focus on digital content, data analytics and supply chain, according to the report. With increasing enterprise tech spending, technology service providers are developing a wide array of innovative AI-based services and solutions, expanding their offerings beyond traditional IT services, it stated. This includes the development of proprietary AI &amp; GenAI platforms, tools for automation, data analytics solutions, and bespoke AI applications for specific industry verticals such as healthcare, banking &amp; finance, and retail, the report said. According to the report, India has the second highest installed talent base with 420,000 employees working in AI job functions. India also has the highest skills penetration with three times more AI skilled talent than other countries. The country ranks among the top five nations with a 14 times growth in individuals skilled with AI in the last seven years, it said. As the investments in AI continues to increase, the demand for AI talent in India is also expected to grow at 15 per cent CAGR till 2027, the Nasscom-BCG report said, adding the tech industry in India is already seeing more than 15 per cent growth in AI/ML jobs over the past 12 months with positions such as AI engineers growing at 67 per cent year-on-year. Recognizing the importance of human capital in the AI journey, leading firms have invested heavily in upskilling and reskilling their workforce in AI and related technologies, with some organizations allocating USD 1-billion over the next three years dedicated to upskilling. "Indian tech companies, with the advent of Generative AI, are expanding their portfolios beyond traditional IT and business process management to include AI-driven analytics, intelligent automation, and personalized customer interactions," said <keyword id="19956660" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="debjani-ghosh" source="keywords">Debjani Ghosh</keyword>, President at Nasscom. These companies are not just adopting AI; they are redefining their service offerings, creating more value for their clients, and setting new industry standards, she noted. Accelerating this journey will require massive scale investment on AI skilling, investments in ethical and secure AI development practices and governance frameworks and a fundamental shift towards a human-centered approach, prioritizing transparency and human oversight, according to Ghosh.

Aligned with the Government’s recent advisory, the IEC will ensure that every learner shall have access to quality and affordable education, which not only improves their academic performance but also makes them future-ready. With consumer interest at the core of the consortium, the EdTech companies have committed to observe and adhere to a common ‘Code of Conduct’ and establish a Two-tier Grievance Redressal Mechanism to ensure that the positive impact of the industry reaches every deserving consumer while protecting their interests and promoting their rights. Several EdTech entities have joined the IEC such as such as Byju’s, Careers 360,Classplus, Doubtnut, Great Learning, Harappa, Times Edutech &amp; Events Ltd, Scaler, Simplilearn, Toppr, Unacademy, upGrad, UNext Learning, Vedantu &amp; WhiteHat Jr. The move to set up IEC comes at a time when Indian EdTech players are creating immense value for the global audience. The disruptions led by the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns compelled both parents and educational institutions to implement tech-enabled learning solutions, thereby accelerating the growth of the EdTech sector. Indian EdTech operators have been solving for accessibility and affordability through quality courses from best teachers, instructors and faculty members, to ensure that students across all age groups are benefiting from the innovation in the education sector. This has elevated India’s position on the global map as an education hub. India continues to be the third largest <keyword id="1071988" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tech-startup" source="Orion">tech startup</keyword> ecosystem globally (after the US and China). The country also added the second highest number of unicorns in the world, with over 23 added in the CY2022. Simultaneously, the potential pipeline of unicorns expanded to over 170, growing at a pace equivalent to 2021, according to the report by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), in collaboration with Zinnov. "Despite the current downturns, opportunities abound for innovative companies that are leveraging emerging technologies to create actionable impact while prioritising business fundamentals over growth," said Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom. Despite the headwinds, while total funding in CY2022 dropped 24 per cent over 2021, the annual investments at $18.2 billion were higher than the pre-pandemic levels of $13.1 billion in 2019. The year also witnessed a significant investment focus on non-unicorns and unique startups. Almost 1,400 unique startups received funding in 2022, 18 per cent higher than in 2021. Among these, 47 per cent of startups raised their first round in 2022, the report mentioned. Both early-stage ($5.9 billion in CY2022) and seed-stage ($1.2 billion) investments grew between 25-35 per cent over 2021. In 2022, tech startups in the seed-stage secured 1,018 investments. Late-stage investments bore the brunt with a decline of 41 per cent in deal sizes greater than $100 million, due to considerable correction in the global public markets. "What is remarkable is the ecosystem's maturity, where founders are intentionally prioritising profitability over valuation and the investor trust, despite macroeconomic variables at play. This will pave the way for growth in 2023 and beyond," said Pari Natarajan, CEO, Zinnov. Tech startups are expected to continue increasing innovation and deep-tech adoption, particularly in areas related to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that require complex solutions, the report said.
