The government on Wednesday proposed to hike the <keyword id="9215522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs-rate" source="Orion">TCS rate</keyword> to 20 per cent from 5 per cent currently on overseas tour packages and a liberalized remittance scheme for remittance of funds out of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. The Finance Bill, through the Budget 2023-24, amended Section 206C of the Income Tax Act levying a higher Tax Collected at Source (<keyword id="6357150" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs" botkeyword="" source="ET" sourcekeytype="COMPANY" meta.keywordsubtype="EQ" meta.aliasname="tcs" meta.entityname="Tata Consultancy Services Ltd." meta.entityid="8345" meta.seoname="tata-consultancy-services-ltd">TCS</keyword>) on overseas tour programme packages. Also, 20 per cent TCS will be applicable in cases where funds in excess of Rs 7 lakh are sent out of India under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme of the RBI. The amendments will come into effect from July 1, 2023. Nangia Andersen India Partner Amit Agrawal said the increase in TCS rate to 20 per cent is a big surprise, especially with the comfortable forex position. "The increase in TCS rates to 20 per cent for <keyword id="148355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="overseas-travel" source="Orion">overseas travel</keyword> perhaps underscores the government's intention to restrict overseas travel spending by HNI's," Agarwal said. Agarwal said the step to increase TCS to 20 per cent for all remittances, other than travel and medical is likely to cause resentment and hardship amongst the middle class and HNIs. "This is especially true since many students aspire for foreign education and the cost of education and living is usually met by parents through LRS, the blanket rate of 20 per cent on all residuary remittances would mean that foreign remittance for education / maintenance is likely to be costlier owing to the 20 per cent TCS," Agrawal said. Deloitte India Partner Neeru Ahuja said TCS on overseas tour packages or liberalized remittance scheme for remittance of funds out of India has been proposed to be increased from 5 per cent to 20 per cent. "Despite the TCS being creditable in the hands of taxpayers, the same shall lead to higher cash outflow at the first instance in the hands of taxpayers," Ahuja said. Tax and consulting firm AKM Global, Tax Partner Amit Maheshwari said, "TCS has been proposed on any foreign payment without any threshold. "This would pose challenges for people intending to go for foreign travel and who wish to invest in overseas stocks as it will increase their immediate outlay," Maheshwari said. Budget proposes hike in TCS on overseas travel, fund remittances out of India to 20%

<ul><li>TCS announced that its employee attrition rate continued to rise during the January-March quarter as well, reaching 17.4%.</li><li>However, the company’s management said that the attrition rate is cooling off and may come down after a few quarters.</li><li>The IT major has hired over 1 lakh employees in FY22, taking the total count to almost 6 lakh people.</li></ul>The rate of employees leaving information technology (IT) firms continues to remain high as opportunities across the sector are growing with high digital acceptance across industries. However, the rise in attrition rate pushes such companies to hire more employees at competitive salaries, which eventually impacts their incomes. Today, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced that its employee attrition rate continued to rise during the January-March quarter reaching 17.4%. <div type="image" title="tcs attrition" height="900" width="1200" msid="90783459" hostid="261"></div>However, the company’s management said that the attrition rate is cooling off and may come down after a few quarters. “The reported attrition number of 17.4% will get worse for the next couple of quarters just because of the way LTM attrition is calculated. But what we are seeing is that on a month on month basis, we are starting to see flattening of it. So in absolute terms our attrition still went up this quarter compared to last quarter, but in percentage terms it has actually started to flatten and we think that the trend will continue into next quarter. So will [sic] have to wait and see, early days yet, but the curve is definitely flattening,” said Rajesh Gopinathan, chief executive officer (CEO) at TCS in a press conference for Q4 earnings release. The employee benefits expenses, which usually includes health insurance benefits, transport facilities, work from home policy and education assistance for retaining and hiring an employee grew by ₹15,740 crore in FY22 compared to the previous financial year. This shows a big hit on the firm’s expenses. The issue is not limited to TCS, but each IT firm in the industry as companies are hiring more employees with good hikes, promotions to mitigate those leaving the firm. On a brighter side, the IT major has hired over 1.03 lakh employees in FY22 with an army of almost 6 lakh people. TCS added 35,209 employees in the last three months. This quarter, its double digit growth is expected to be under pressure. Macro slowdown could present challenges for emerging IT demand but analysts from India Infoline (IFFL) Institutional Equities expect it some it to be offset by the recent depreciation of the Rupee. It also helps that visa costs have not increased further, and wages are sustained at current levels. Analysts forecast a 2.8% quarterly growth rate for the company and operating margins to expand by 50 basis points or 0.5%. "Sustenance of healthy growth in communications vertical and recovery in the retail vertical as well as progress on its platform strategy, where TCS is gaining traction in verticals like BFS and life sciences, apart from insurance are key comments to watch," cites IFFL’s report. The BFS sector is particular is of interest to investors as TCS in the midst of implementing large projects in this space. Its order bookings and commentary from clients will help analysts determine its revenue inflow from such deals. A lot will also depend on the spending outlook of large US banks. In the last quarter, TCS reported outsourcing contracts worth $5.7 billion. It was the fourth quarter in a row where it bagged deals worth $5 billion and more.

Rupee to the rescue: TCS quarterly profit might be cushioned by the exchange rate

New Delhi, May 14 () Tax deducted on payment of dividend, insurance policy, rent, professional fee and on the acquisition of immovable property has been cut by 25 per cent for a period up to March 31, the tax department has said.Following Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's announcement of a reduction in the rate of tax deducted at source (TDS) and tax collected at source (TCS) for non-salaried payments, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) notified revised rates that will be applicable from May 14, 2020, to March 31, 2021.Announcing a slew of measures to help companies and taxpayers tide over hardships caused by coronavirus lockdown, Sitharaman had on Wednesday stated that the reduction in TDS/TCS rate would release about Rs 50,000 crore in the hands of people.In the notification, the CBDT said while TCS on sale of the motor vehicle above Rs 10 lakh has been cut to 0.75 per cent from 1 per cent earlier, TDS on 23 items has been reduced.The CBDT said TDS on payment for life insurance policy has been reduced to 3.75 per cent from 5 per cent, while that on dividend and interest as well as rent for immovable property has been cut to 7.5 per cent from 10 per cent earlier.The 1 per cent TDS charged on payment made for the acquisition of immovable property has now been reduced to 0.75 per cent. Payment of rent by individual or HUF has been cut to 3.75 per cent from 5 per cent earlier.TDS on e-commerce participants has also been reduced to 0.75 per cent from 1 pr cent.Similarly, tax on professional fee has been reduced to 1.5 per cent from 2 per cent.TDS on payments in respect of deposits under National Savings Scheme has been reduced to 7.5 per cent from 10 per cent and that on payments for re-purchase of units by Mutual Funds to 15 per cent from 20 per cent.The same on insurance commission and brokerage have been cut to 3.75 per cent from 5 per cent.TDS on payment of dividend by mutual funds has been reduced to 7.5 per cent from 10 per cent.TCS on sale of tendu leaves, scrap, timber, forest produce, and minerals such as coal, lignite or iron ore has also been reduced.The CBDT said there shall be no reduction in rates of TDS or TCS where the tax is required to be deducted or collected at a higher rate due to the non-furnishing of PAN/Aadhaar.Nangia Andersen LLP Director Sandeep Jhunjhunwala said: "The reduction of TDS and TCS rates on non-salaried payments by 25 per cent will set free additional cash in the hands of the vendors, and help increase liquidity in the economy"."This relief could be enjoyed by all businesses and would play a pivotal role in increasing cash flows as the beneficial rates would be available until the end of the current financial year."Deloitte India Partner Rohinton Sidhwa said, "The TDS / TCS cut will release liquidity into the system. Most assessees would have deluged the tax department with applications for lower withholding in any case and this effectively will also reduce administrative burden".PwC India Partner (Tax and Regulatory) Vikram Doshi said, "The immediate reduction of TDS rate by 25 per cent is a direct and practical measure to increase liquidity in the system. While there was an expectation of a higher rate of reduction, the longer period of reduction till March 31, 2021, balances the slightly lower rate."The extension of due dates of various compliances provides additional relief given the practical difficulty in undertaking compliances." New Delhi, The onus of deducting <keyword id="6357150" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tcs" source="Orion">TCS</keyword> should be banks, in case a person makes an overseas hotel booking using the e-commerce portal of tour operators, said a senior official of MakeMyTrip, a leading online travel service provider. MakeMyTrip Group Vice President-Taxation Tajinder Singh said, in case a tour package is booked from the e-commerce portal, the company will take an undertaking from its customers, on whether the total amount remitted abroad so far has exceeded the threshold of Rs 7 lakh in the fiscal year. The government has said that from October 1, a 5 per cent <keyword id="735754" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tax-collected-at-source" source="Orion">Tax Collected at Source</keyword> (TCS) will be levied on tour packages up to Rs 7 lakh in a fiscal. The rate will go up to 20 per cent for spending beyond the threshold. Currently, 5 per cent TCS is levied on overseas tour packages irrespective of spending. Singh said TCS collection on overseas tour spendings has two aspects -- one where a tour package is booked using the e-commerce portal and secondly, when the customer uses the portal to make a standalone hotel booking. He said in case of tour packages booked from an e-commerce website, the company will seek a declaration from customers about the total money remitted so far in a fiscal year. In case of standalone hotel booking, he said it will fall in the category where authorised dealer banks would be responsible for taking this declaration from customers. "We have been talking to banks that for these declarations, banks will have to come up with their own facility and infrastructure where they would be able to directly use the KYC data available of their customers to collect the information directly from customers. That is where we are pushing it to the banks to do the compliances at their end. "It is the compliance of the banks. Banks are liable to collect the TCS from customers who are remitting outside India. The compliance is on banks, but because we are intermediaries we will have to pitch-in somewhere and facilitate this," Singh said. The government's decision on levying higher TCS on overseas tour packages beyond Rs 7 lakh would impact outbound tourism. "A lot of customers would be looking at the higher TCS rate as a cost... The higher cash outflow at the time of booking might pinch a lot of customers and they might curtail their expenditure," Singh added.

Onus of deducting TCS on standalone overseas hotel bookings should be on banks: MakeMyTrip

Attrition rate of IT companies has been rising consistently and in-line with growing demand for digital talent. With the earnings results available so far for the September quarter, Wipro has the highest attrition rate, among IT firms, at 20.5% followed by Infosys at 20.1% and <keyword id="6357585" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services" source="Orion">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS) at 11.9%. <div type="image" title="attrition chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="87013677" hostid="261"></div> However, a report by human resource solutions firm TeamLease shows that the average attrition rate in the IT industry was at 8.67% in September quarter, far less than what the big IT firms have reported. One of the key concerns of IT employees for leaving an organisation is muted growth in increments followed by poor employee benefits, rewards, digital skilling and so on, shows a ‘compensation benchmarking survey’ by Deloitte India and software firms’ lobby NASSCOM. The average increments for the technology services sector in India dropped from 9.5% in 2019 to 5.2% in 2020, which later increased to 8.8% in 2021 due to higher attrition rate. Simultaneously, we continue to strengthen employee value propositions including health and wellness measures, reskilling programs, appropriate compensation interventions and enhanced career growth opportunities,” said Pravin Rao, chief operating officer at Infosys. TCS completes its fresher hiring target three months ahead of schedule but it’s not done yet

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword>, India's top software exporter, slumped to a 2-month low and fell for the 4th day after its first quarter sales, reported after markets closed on Thursday, missed some analysts' projections. TCS fell 2.6 percent to 2,455 rupees on the <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword>. It hit its lowest level since May 7th and the stock slumped below its crucial 200-day moving average, which is a short-term bearish indicator. TCS was also the top traded future in the derivatives market with nearly 40,000 contracts changing hands. The stock has slumped 5.3 percent over the past 3 months compared with the 12 percent fall on the <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> IT Index. TCS failed to meet sales forecast for the fourth time in a row. Q1 Sales rose 6 percent sequentially to 25,668 crore rupees, below analysts expectations. <keyword id="6431508" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Net-profit">Net Profit</keyword> fell 3.3 percent sequentially to 5,709 crore rupees. The software giant's attrition rate surged to 15.9 percent. But major global brokerages remain optimistic on TCS's futures growth and they maintain their `Buy' stance on the stock. 

	CLSA said it saw strong margin performance at TCS emanating from productivity gains.
 <keyword id="6386585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Barclays">Barclays</keyword> added it continued to see strength in execution at TCS which should lead to industry leading sales growth. 

	Credit Suisse continues to view TCS as a core holding despite near term stock constraints.
 <keyword id="48670" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Morgan-Stanley">Morgan Stanley</keyword> said it sees strong deal wins and broad-based growth rates across verticals. And <keyword id="6361649" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword> said it believes TCS’ earnings visibility justifies 20% premium.
