<ul><li>New <keyword id="2896546" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="H1-B-visa-rules">H1-B visa rules</keyword> have been an unwelcome change for Indian IT firms with new visas as well as renewals, according to data by Centre for Immigration Studies. </li><li>Homegrown IT majors TCS and <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> faced maximum rejections for extension of the work work visas. </li><li>According to the US Department of Labour, Deloitte Consulting and Apple received the maximum work permits. </li><li>Six Indian IT outsourcing companies — TCS, Infosys, Wipro, <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword>, HCL and US arm of Tech Mahindra — got only 2,145 work permits, which was 16% of total work visas bagged by companies.</li></ul>Under the Trump administration, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/h-1b-visa-revised-rules-go-into-effect-on-april-1-favouring-advanced-degree-applicants/articleshow/67768709.cms">new H1-B visa rules</a> have brought new challenges for applicants of these temporary work visas, heavily used by Indian IT majors. Now, it appears that renewal of these work visas has also thrown up hurdles, particularly hurting Indian IT majors. According to the Centre for Immigration Studies, a US-based think tank, top IT firms Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Cognizant and Infosys faced the most <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/corporate/indian-it-firms-see-higher-h-1b-visa-extension-rejections-us-firms-get-more-visas/68310179">rejections </a>in extension of H1-B work visas in 2018. H1-B work visas are initially provided for three years — but can be extended for a similar term later. With most of its workforce in India, Cognizant witnessed nearly 3,548 rejections for extension of these work visas in the year, which is so far the highest for any company hiring foreign employees. While the homegrown ITs Infosys and TCS saw 2,042 and 1,744 rejections, respectively, said the report. Analysing a broader range of top 30 IT companies, the analysis also found that the six major outsourcing companies — TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, HCL and US arm of Tech Mahindra — constitute nearly two-third of extensions for work visas. The six outsourcing companies got only 2,145 work permits, which is 16% of total work visas bagged by all companies. On the flipside, several US-based technology companies — Microsoft, Amazon and Apple-- were able to increase their foreign work staff via the new H1-B rules, showing the new regulation in fact benefitted the American companies, noted the report. However, many legal experts point that Indian ITs are the largest consumers of H1-B visa. But recent moves by the US government point to growing protectionism. Indian IT companies have also faced backlash by locals for allegedly discriminating against American workers. On Thursday, alleging discrimination at workplace, a US employee filed a <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/its-cognizants-turn-to-face-us-lawsuit-alleging-discrimination/articleshow/68296041.cms">lawsuit</a> against Cognizant for calling an American a ‘diversity candidate.’ “Protectionism happens without making any policy changes to favour their own companies. New H1-B rules bring more rejections on work visa renewals

<ul><li>Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) — placed almost 77% of its graduates through campus placements. </li><li>Of the total 23,298 engineering students, 17,946 were placed on campus, according to HRD Ministry. </li><li>Bagging over 32% of offers, IIT Delhi campus witnessed an upsurge of 15% in the number of companies visiting for campus placements this year. </li><li>IIT graduates have bagged employment offers from 200 of the top 500 companies across the globe.</li></ul>India’s top notch engineering colleges — Indian Institute of Technology(IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute of Information Technology(IIITs) — placed almost 77% of its graduates through campus placements, <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/education/engineering-campus-placement-45-engineering-graduates-found-jobs-in-2017-18-says-hrd-ministry-2069988?&amp;tb_cb=1">according to</a> the Human Resource &amp; Development Ministry (MHRD). However, if all the country’s colleges under All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are included, the percentage of engineers places goes down 45%. It plans to hire nearly 18,000 freshers during this financial year, according to reports. The technology major recruited 906 professionals during the first quarter. In the 2018-19, the IT giant hired around 8,000 employees — including 2,500 freshers. At present, Infosys has 229,000 employees across locations, ET <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/infosys-to-hire-18000-people-from-campuses-in-fy20/articleshow/70197777.cms?from=mdr">reported</a>. As on March 2019, Infosys added 228,123 employees, of which 214,727 were deployed in service delivery roles, the company’s annual report said. However, the company witnessed a rise in the attrition rate to 23.4%. The company offered over ₹10.2 million annual salary each to around 60 employees within the country. TCS also added 12,356 employees in the company during the first quarter of the financial year — its highest ever in the last five years. Global workforce expansion As fewer of its employees are getting visas to work in the US, Infosys also recruited 10,000 American employees by the end of June quarter. While e-commerce giant Flipkart jumped to the first position from second last year, several other homegrown giants — Zomato, Swiggy and Freshworks — featured prominently among the top 25 companies preferred by Indian professionals.. Given that more millennials and even GenZ are now joining the workforce, Indian companies appear to be paying increasing attention to work culture in addition to offering better wages and exposure to the most sought-after skills. The report analysed over 610 million LinkedIn members, gauging job seekers’ interest in the company, employee engagement, job demands, and employee retention. The sold net 254 crore rupees of stocks, their 5th straight day of sales and their sales in the derivatives markets stood at 1,247 crore rupees in Index Futures and 497 crore rupees in Stock Futures. These numbers point to further weakness in Indian stocks. 
 And now for a bit of good news: the IMF has retained its forecast for global growth at 3.8 percent for 2016. It pegs India's <keyword id="35050" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="gdp">GDP</keyword> expansion at 7.5 percent, making us the fastest growing economy in the world.

Q1 Sales rose 6 percent sequentially to 25,668 crore rupees, below analysts expectations. Net Profit fell 3.3 percent sequentially to 5,709 crore rupees. The software giant's attrition rate surged to 15.9 percent. Major global brokerages remain optimistic on TCS's futures growth and they maintain their `Buy' stance on the stock. 
 
BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS: Brokerage CLSA has upgraded the stock to `Buy' from `Sell' and raised its price target to `320 per share from `205 earlier, citing the company to be the biggest beneficiary of the surge in orders in FY16. CLSA sees EPS double over FY15 - 17 as raises FY16 order flow by 17%.
