Professional networking platform LinkedIn on Tuesday released the 2024 Top Companies list for India wherein <keyword id="6357647" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="it-companies" source="Orion">IT companies</keyword> bagged the top three ranks, while <keyword id="6354241" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-services" source="Orion">financial services</keyword> firms dominated the list with 9 out of 25 companies from this sector. The 8th edition has derived insights from LinkedIn data, and lists the top 25 large companies, 15 best mid-size companies, and provides insights on in-demand skills, top locations, and the largest job functions within these companies. "The in-demand skills that the top companies are looking for in the financial services sector include investor relations, capital markets, and investment banking. Companies in the technology sector are looking for skills such as enterprise software, data storage technologies, software development life cycle (SDLC), and artificial intelligence (AI)," the data revealed. Revenue analysis, nonprofit management, and mobile application development are some of the other skills that are witnessing a surge in demand, it added. Silicon valley of India, Bengaluru was named the top location where these top companies are based and looking to hire talent, followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and Pune. The next quarter revenue is expected to be at $4.83 - $4.88 billion, showing a decline of 0.6% to 1.6%, or a decline of 1.0% to flat in constant currency. Cognizant reported an operating margin of 14.6% for March quarter, which is lower than Indian IT giants TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra. For the full year 2023, the company has guided for adjusted operating margin to be in the range of 14.2%-14.7%. Following the peer IT major’s mixed bag of earnings which expects a decline in 2023 revenues, shares of most Indian IT companies were trading lower. It attributed the move to its NextGen program through which it expects to simplify its operating model and optimise corporate functions. “In the second quarter of 2023, we initiated the NextGen program aimed at simplifying our operating model, optimizing corporate functions and consolidating and realigning office space to reflect the post-pandemic hybrid work environment. Our drive for simplification will include operating with fewer layers in an effort to enhance agility and enable faster decision making,” the company said in a statement. Cognizant has a total headcount of 3.51 lakh in the March quarter, which is a decrease of 3,800 from the previous quarter. Its voluntary attrition rate declined to 23% in Q1 FY23 from 30% in Q1 FY22. "Our accelerated bookings growth in the quarter, which included several large deals and a healthy mix of new and expansion work, reflects the strengths of our services, our brand, and the longstanding relationships we have with our clients. I am also encouraged by the continuing reduction in our voluntary attrition," said Ravi Kumar S, CEO at Cognizant. “Having spent more than three months assessing the business, meeting with over a hundred clients and thousands of employees, I firmly believe Cognizant has a strong foundation for accelerating growth," said Kumar S in a statement. TCS is hiring MBA grads to join their workforce in FY 2022-23

India’s top brands have borne the brunt of the global economic downturn in 2023. The combined value of Kantar BrandZ’s top-75 Indian brands shed 4% of their value to $379 billion in 2023. Yet, they have fared better than their global counterparts, as its global list has shed 20% of its value. Most of this loss in brand value was seen in Indian tech brands whose value shrunk by 14%. The brands have a major presence in international markets, and have been impacted by global pressures, recession threats and geopolitical instability, says Kantar. “If you exclude tech, the combined brand value is quite stable,” said Soumya Mohanty, managing director and chief client officer, South Asia, Insights Division of Kantar. TCS on the top, as usual The spot of India’s most valuable brand, however, is retained by tech giant TCS. It has shed 6% of its value but has fared better than tech as a sector. “TCS has a strong corporate reputation which makes it more likely to retain clients and business. It can also help enable customer retention which is also a factor that adds to brand value,” Deepender Rana, executive managing director of South Asia Insights Division at Kantar told Business Insider India. Infosys’ brand value dropped by 17%, while HCL Tech’s brand value rose by 3%. Both these brands made it to the top 10. Wipro’s brand value dropped by a sharp 42%. The rest of the list is dominated by banks, telecom companies with only one consumer company, Asian Paints in the top 10. risers of the year. TVS, valued at $1.9 billion, occupies the 51st rank. The company has gained 59% in value and leapt 24 places thanks to a number of successful product launches and a 10-year partnership with BMW that gives it leverage in markets such as Europe, the US and Canada. Mahindra is valued at $2.01 billion and occupies the 47th rank. Mahindra, which grew its value by 48%, made itself incredibly meaningful in consumers’ eyes, and also significantly boosted its salience. The sector saw the second highest category growth of 19%, after tobacco. Royal Enfield’s value also swelled, thanks to Indians’ preference for premium products. A lot of Indian auto brands, like Tata Motors, also entered EV markets and are able to meet consumer needs better, observes Rana. “Auto companies’ value declined during Covid and made a comeback after they dealt with supply chain issues and dealt with bottlenecks,” said Mohanty. India’s largest auto company Maruti Suzuki, however, shed 5% of its brand value, while Bajaj Auto’s brand value went up by 9%. The value in finance Financial services brands have grown their brand value by 6% with 16 brands and contributing to the biggest chunk of the total brand value. Their growth is attributed to growth in digital banking and Axis Bank whose value swelled 28% and now ranks at 17. ICICI Bank which ranks at no 6 also has seen its brand value swell by 18%. Two of this year’s new entrants also belong to the fintech sector — PhonePe and Cred. This is in spite of the fact that tech as a sector saw its value go down during the year. PhonePe has made its debut on the list at No.21 with a value of $4.4 billion. It has quickly become India’s leading digital payment app by investing heavily in the strength of its infrastructure, building connections with partner banks, and developing a huge network of merchant acceptance points, said Kantar. Meanwhile, Cred has entered at no 48 with a brand value of $2 billion. “Growth of credit and other digital trends are adding to the value of fintechs. There is a need for these services and brands are doing a good job of providing them,” Mohanty tells Business Insider India. PayTM, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Naukri, Oyo and Nykaa have shed value; while Byju’s hasn’t been included in the list this year. FMCG as a sector has seen its brand value remain stable during the year.

Applicants who perform exceptionally well in the ‘Smart Hiring’ selection process will get an opportunity to join TCS Ignite – ‘Science to Software’ programme. The last date to apply for this programme is November 30, 2021. Eligibility criteria for the programme — <ol><li>Full-time graduates from BCA, B.Sc (math, statistics, physics, chemistry, electronics, biochemistry, computer science, IT), Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) in computer science (CS)/IT with 2020, 2021 and 2022 as year of passing are eligible. Students from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) class 10 and 12 can also be part of the test if they have enrolled themselves for full-time graduation. </li><li>Students should have a cumulative grade points average (CGPA) of 5 or 50% in class 10 and 12. </li><li>Students whose year of passing is 2022 are only allowed one active backlog at the time of appearing for the exam. This backlog should be cleared within the stipulated time duration to be eligible for the programme. Students graduating in 2021 and 2020 should have completed the course with no pending backlogs. </li><li>It is mandatory for students to declare gaps in education, if any. The overall academic gap should not exceed 2 years. </li><li>Students should not have any extended education in their highest qualification. </li></ol>Selection procedure — A test would be conducted by the company, candidates have an option to appear for ‘In-center or remote’ as their mode of test. Candidates who manage to clear the test will be called for an interview. The date for the test has not been announced yet. This is a pan-India opportunity exclusively open for management graduates who can join their workforce in FY 2022-23. The last date for registration is November 9. After the last date, the IT firm will announce the dates for the entrance test. The hiring process will be done in two steps. The first step is the entrance test, which will be conducted by the company after the registration. Candidates who manage to pass the test will be called for the second round i.e., the interview. The test will consist of 47 questions, which have to be answered in 90 minutes by the applicants. The test comprises three sections — verbal ability, quantitative aptitude and business aptitude. Eligibility criteria for appearing in the test round — <ol><li>Candidate’s minimum age should be 18 years and maximum should be 28 years. </li><li>The candidate should have done or pursuing a two-year full-time Master of Business Administration(MBA)/Masters in Management Studies(MMA)/Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA)/Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) course in Marketing/Finance/Operations/Supply Chain Management/Information Technology/General Management/Business Analytics/Project Management. </li><li>Candidates must score a minimum aggregate marks of 60% or above in class 10,12, diploma (if applicable), graduation and/or post graduation examination, which includes successful completion of final year/semester. </li><li>Applicants must be from Bachelors of Technology (B.Tech)/Bachelors in Engineering (B.E) background prior to MBA/Integrated MBA. </li><li>Students of 2020, 2021 &amp; 2022 batch are only eligible. </li><li>Students should not have any backlogs at the time of appearing for the TCS selection process. </li><li>Students should not have any extended education in their highest qualification. </li><li>The overall academic gap should not exceed 2 years.
