Mumbai, Dec 19 () Auto major Tata Motors on Thursday unveiled its first electric SUV Nexon EV that will be commercially launched within weeks.
 The SUV, built on its most popular SUV Nexon, is the first electric vehicle (EV) powered by Ziptron technology and offers "a range not less than 300 km per charge" and can accelerate to 100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds.
 Bookings for the car will start from Friday, the company said, without revealing the price or delivery date.
 On pricing, the company said it will be around 20 per cent more than the AMT version of Nexon and thus will come between Rs 15-17 lakh and will be 'launched within weeks'.
 The SUV comes with as many as 35 connected features, including tow away and intrusion alerts.
 The new EV comes in three variants and offers an eight-year warranty or 1,60,000 km on the battery and the motor, which is the highest in the industry.
 The Nexon is the first EV coming on the Ziptron technology. This is a high performance, connected vehicle that is suited to address the aspirations of customers and break all barriers for EV adoption, Tata Motors CEO and MD Guenter Butschek said while unveiling the EV. 
 Shailesh Chandra, president of electric mobility unit at Tata Motors, said the battery can be charged 80 per cent in under 10 minutes under the fast charging mode, and fully-charged under 40 minutes. 
 The battery pack will offer a range which will be higher than 300 km on a fully-charged battery and can be charged even on a 15 ampere plug point, he added. BEN IAS RVK

Tata Motors unveils Nexon EV with over 300 km range

Mumbai, Jan 28 () Home-grown auto major Tata Motors on Tuesday launched the electric variant of its most-selling compact sports utility vehicle Nexon in the domestic market at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
 The company had unveiled the vehicle last December. 
 Tata Motors plans to launch four more electric vehicle (EV) models, including two SUVs, one hatchback and one sedan in the next 24 months, Tata Sons Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced at the launch.
 The event was also attended by Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons.
 Powered by Ziptron technology, the electric SUV for the personal segment comes with a range of 312 km on a single charge and a high voltage system, fast charging capability, extended battery life and class leading safety features. Besides, it has 35 connected car features as well.
 The Nexon EV will be available in three trim levels across 60 authorised dealerships in 22 cities, the company said at the launch.
 The company is closely working with other group companies such as Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Autocomp, Tata Motors Finance and Croma to create an e-mobility ecosystem, Tata uniEVerse, for faster adoption of EVs in the country, Tata Motors said.
 "E-mobility is an irreversible mega-trend and an imperative for addressing pollution and generating job opportunities in India," Chandrasekaran said.
 "After 16 months of strenuous effort, we are delighted to launch India's own electric SUV, the Nexon EV. This high performance, connected vehicle is uniquely suited to address the aspirations of Indian customers, and making EVs mainstream," the company's Managing Director and Chief Executive, Guenter Butschek said.
 "We are confident that this game-changing product will further reinforce our commitment towards developing sustainable and responsible mobility solutions for India," he added.
 Powered by Tata uniEVerse, consumers will have access to a suite of e-mobility offerings including charging solutions, innovative retail experiences and easy financing options, it said. 
 The automaker has partnered with Tata Power to provide end-to-end charging solutions at home, workplace and for captive and public charging.
 Similarly, to develop the component supplier ecosystem, the company is collaborating with Tata Chemicals, which is working on manufacturing lithium-ion battery cells, exploring active chemicals manufacturing and battery recycling.
 Besides, it is also working with Tata Autocomp for the localisation of battery pack assembly and motor assembly, among other tie-ups, Tata Motors said. IAS ANS

Mahindra Marrazzo offering features such as double airbags, ABS, SBR for driver and ISOFIX anchorages achieved two-stars for Child Occupant Protection. Tata Nexon becomes the first Indian car to score a 5-star rating in global crash test standards

<keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="keywords">Tata Motors</keyword> on Tuesday said its electric vehicle arm has reduced prices of two models -- <keyword id="20563981" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexon-ev" source="keywords">Nexon.ev</keyword> and Tiago.ev -- by up to Rs 1.2 lakh on account of reduction in battery cost. The auto major has cut the price of Nexon.ev by up to Rs 1.2 lakh and now the model price starts at Rs 14.49 lakh. Similarly, the company has reduced the prices of Tiago.ev by up to Rs 70,000 with the base model now starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, Tata Motors said in a statement. Introductory prices of the recently-launched <keyword id="20078457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punch-ev" source="keywords">Punch.ev</keyword> remain unchanged as they already factor in reduction in battery cost in the foreseeable future, it added. "Battery costs constitute a substantial part of the overall cost of an EV. "With battery cell prices having softened in the recent past and considering their potential reduction in the foreseeable future, we have chosen to proactively pass on the resulting benefits directly to customers," <keyword id="20078455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-passenger-electric-mobility" source="keywords">Tata Passenger Electric Mobility</keyword> (TPEM) Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivatsa said. While EVs have grown rapidly over the last few years, the company's mission is to accelerate the mainstream adoption of EVs by making them more accessible nationwide, he added. EVs have shown a strong growth momentum and are substantially outperforming the overall passenger vehicle industry growth, Tata Motors said. In 2023, the EV segment grew by over 90 per cent against the 8 per cent growth recorded by the PV industry, it said. This growth momentum has continued in 2024 as well with EV sales registering a 100 per cent year-on-year growth in January 2024. TPEM with over 70 per cent market share is the leader in this fast-growing segment, the automaker stated. Tata Motors cuts EV prices by up to ₹1.2 lakh as battery cost dips

In an interaction with PTI, Tata Motors Managing Director - Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles Shailesh <keyword id="796" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chandra" source="Orion">Chandra</keyword> said the price revision would also offset the impact of commodity prices, which have remained high for the most part of the year. "The regulatory change will have its impact on the cost. Even the real impact of softening of commodity prices is only going to come from next quarter and we still have the residual impact of the commodity escalation that we have seen during the year," Chandra said. He noted that even the battery prices have gone up and the same has not been passed on to the market. "So we are evaluating a price increase basis some of the residual effect that is left as far as the commodity prices are concerned. Battery prices and new regulations have also impacted the EV side," Chandra said. Besides, there is a cost involved in making the model range transition to conform to new emission norms, he added. "We are exploring potential price increase next month because of these factors for both ICE and EVs," Chandra said. Tata Motors sells a range of models like <keyword id="5700" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punch" source="Orion">Punch</keyword>, Nexon, Harrier, and <keyword id="62620" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="safari" source="Orion">Safari</keyword> in the domestic market. It leads the electric vehicle segment with products like Tiago EV and Nexon EV. From April 1, 2023, vehicles will need to have an on-board self-diagnostic device to monitor the real-time driving emission levels. The device will constantly monitor key parts for meeting emission standards such as the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, to keep a close watch on emissions. In a scenario wherein the emissions exceed the parameters, the device will indicate through warning lights that the vehicle should be submitted for service. Additionally, in order to control the level of fuel burnt, the vehicles will also carry programmed fuel injectors, which would control the timing and amount of fuel injected into the petrol engine. Even the semiconductors used by the vehicle will have to be upgraded to monitor throttle, crankshaft positions, air intake pressure, the temperature of the engine, and the contents of the emissions from the exhaust (particulate matter, nitrogen oxide, CO2, Sulphur), etc. Last week, Maruti Suzuki also announced to increase vehicle prices from January.
