Tata Group companies’ market cap skyrocket by ₹70,000 crore today on rally in these companies

<ul><li>Shares of <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> rallied 15% as private equity firm TPG’s Rise Climate Fund has committed to invest ₹7,500 crore (around $1 billion at current prices) in the company’s EV business.</li><li>The development has turned analysts positive on the company’s EV dreams as they believe Tata Motors’ volumes will surge in the near term due to lack of competition.</li><li>The automaker aims to create a portfolio of 10 electric vehicles in the next five years.</li></ul>Shares of Tata Motors stole the limelight on Wednesday as it rallied 15% as analysts turned bullish on the company’s electric vehicle (EV) business after it announced a billion dollar investment by a private equity firm on Tuesday. Private equity firm TPG’s Rise Climate Fund along with Abu Dhabi Development Holding will make an investment worth ₹7500 crore (around $1 billion at current prices) in Tata Motors’ electric vehicles (EV) segment, it had said. Analysts believe the development will turn fortunes for the company reeling from its Jaguar Land Rover business. “Lack of competition in the near term may continue to benefit Tata’s EV volumes though progress has to be tracked,” said analysts at HSBC while raising the target price for the stock to ₹550. At 9:36 a.m., on Wednesday, shares of the company were trading nearly 15% higher at ₹483. Tata Motors’ domestic passenger vehicle business currently has 71% market share in the EV segment with revenues of around ₹5-6 billion as of FY2021, according to Kotak’s report. Tata Motors rallies 15% as TPG’s billion dollars spark a series of upgrades for the stock

<ul><li>Tata Motors stock falls over 17% on Friday.</li><li>Analysts have cut earnings estimate by up to 35%.</li><li>Company's luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover is faced with a slowdown in China and the risk of a hard Brexit.</li></ul> Tata Motors lost over 17% of its stock value on Friday (February 8) after the Mumbai-based company <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/earnings/tata-motors-consolidated-december-2018-net-sales-at-rs-77000-89-crore-up-3-84-y-o-y-3499401.html" target="_blank">reported a consolidated quarterly loss</a> of ₹26,961 crore, the biggest in its history. Analysts have cut the company's earnings estimate by <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/worst-quarterly-losses-in-india-incs-history-tata-motors-joins-the-league/articleshow/67900156.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">up to 35%</a> despite company's attempts to sugar-coat the depleting fortunes of its luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The slowdown in China, which is a huge market for JLR, had dented margin and eroded profit in the last quarter ended December 2018. The company also cut its margin estimate citing rising business uncertainties. “The 4-7% guidance was for the period between FY20 and FY22. That is something that we have now calibrated to 3-6%," PB Balaji, CFO, Tata Motors, <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/technology/auto/tata-motors-revises-margin-guidance-downwards-to-3-6-from-4-7-3501021.html" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">said</a>. The luxury car market was down 15% year-on-year in China. However, the same for JLR was down 47% to 22,000 units, which means the company is performing way worse than its peers like BMW and Audi. With the risks emerging from Brexit looming large, the outlook is rather bleak for Tata Motors. The company has written down the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/continued-weak-demand-could-lead-to-further-impairment-at-tata-motors/articleshow/67894091.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">value</a> of the JLR business by 37.5% due to the growing risks. If the deal between UK and the European Union is worse than expected, it may hit the demand for luxury cars like JLR and the fall in sales as a result of it may further erode the share value. Tata Motors loses over a billion dollars in market value

<ul><li>According to reports, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> was planning to sell a minority stake in <keyword id="6354362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar-Land-Rover">Jaguar Land Rover</keyword>. </li><li>JLR had reported a massive loss of $3.4 billion in December. </li><li>Stocks of <keyword id="8555" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata">Tata</keyword> Motors had fallen by 17% in early February. </li></ul>Tata Motors has denied reports that it is exploring a minority stake sale in its British subsidiaries <keyword id="42034" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar">Jaguar</keyword> and <keyword id="44719" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Land-Rover">Land Rover</keyword>. According to an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">ET report</a>, the auto company is reportedly also looking at a joint venture partnership. “There is no truth to the rumours that the company is looking to divest its stake in JLR,” Tata Motors told Business Insider, declining to comment further on “market speculation.” For the quarter ending December 31, Tata Sons’ Jaguar Land Rover <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2019/02/07/jaguar-land-rover-hit-by-big-loss/#2852de8aa0a8">saw </a>a loss of $3.4 billion following a big write-down. It was also in cost cutting mode, and reportedly axed 4,500 jobs late last year. The <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">ET report</a> also states that Brexit, US-China trade war and signs of a slowdown in the global economy could be the reasons for the losses incurred by JLR. China, which has traditionally been one of the biggest markets for the luxury car. The division saw a drop in sales volume by 47% which also affected the company deeply. Tata Motors denies reports it is exploring stake sale in Jaguar Land Rover

<ul><li>Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekkharan made a big revelation at the Annual General Meeting.</li><li>The very nature of this business demands continuous investment in product and technology development, he said.</li><li>Jaguar Land Rover's depleting fortunes have been a big drag on Tata Motors.</li></ul>British luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been a white elephant for Tata Motors. Revenue from JLR fell by a billion dollars in the year ending March 2019 and made profit in only one of the four quarters last year. Last year, Tata Motors had to take an impairment-- write down the value-- of ₹27,838 crore due to weak sales and profitability at JLR. Things continue to look bleak even after 4,500 jobs were axed. This posed a question in front of N Chandrasekharan, the Chairman of the group's parent Tata Sons, on how long will the conglomerate continue to back the bleeding giant. "A company cannot shut the cash tap as the very nature of this business demands continuous investment in product and technology development," he <a href="https://www.indiatvnews.com/auto/cars-jaguar-land-rover-looking-for-financial-partnership-in-china-tata-chairman-n-chandrasekaran-539207" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">reportedly</a> said at the Annual General Meeting. "There are many discussions from tactical to strategic for such partnerships. Opportunities are coming and we keep evaluating them and as long as it is in the interest of Tata Motors. We will forge such partnerships so that we are able to address the capex issue," he told the shareholders. Tata Motors has already joined hands with German giant and rival BMW recently for a collaboration for manufacturing electric vehicles under the JLR banner.  Any recovery for the JLR hinges a lot on how Brexit unfolds. “Uncertainty around an orderly outcome of Brexit negotiations and the evolving global tariffs situation pose risks, in particular to TML's JLR business, which faces a significant level of production-sales mismatch due to concentration of its production base in the UK,” global ratings agency Fitch said while downgrading Tata Motors for JLR's troubles. Aside from Brexit, the US-China trade war and <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">signs</a> of a slowdown in the global economy are also compounding JLR's problems. China has traditionally been one of the biggest markets for the luxury car but sale volumes fell a sharp 29% between April and June this year, compared to the same time last year. A month back, credit rating agency Moody’s had downgraded Tata Motors. In addition to JLR related troubles, Tata Motors’ domestic business is also troubled by a general slowdown in the auto market. In June 2019, Tata Motors <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/companies/tata-motors-global-sales-dip-5-in-june-4195251.html">reported </a>a 14% decline in India sales, while a 5% drop was seen in global sales. Tata Motors is looking for partnerships to revive Jaguar Land Rover

<keyword id="13751053" type="General" weightage="70" keywordseo="Tata-Passenger-Electric-Mobility" source="Orion">Tata Passenger Electric Mobility</keyword> Ltd. and <keyword id="42034" type="General" weightage="40" keywordseo="jaguar" source="Orion">Jaguar</keyword> Land Rover (<keyword id="45218" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jlr" source="Orion">JLR</keyword>), both 100 percent subsidiaries of <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword>, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the licencing of Jaguar's EMA platform for the development of the 'premium pure electric' vehicle series 'Avinya'. Pure electric mid-sized SUVs for international markets are to be launched from 2025 onwards, according to a release from Tata Motors. The electric cars, based on the Avinya concept, will now be developed on JLR's Electrified Modular Architecture in exchange for a royalty fee, according to the press release issued on Thursday. "Avinya stands for 'Innovation' and represents our vision for a new paradigm in personal mobility. Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class EVs, with global standards in efficiency and range. We are delighted to collaborate on the EMA platform with JLR for actualizing this vision," Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head HV Programmes, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Thomas Mueller, Executive Director, Product Engineering, JLR, said, "We are proud that JLR's world class engineering expertise, demonstrated by our EMA platform, will help accelerate TPEM's electrification journey. This partnership is a further example of great collaboration within the Tata Group, to share value, knowledge and deliver synergies". The access to JLR's platform will help accelerate TPEM's entry into the high-end EV segment while reducing development cycle time and costs. Cements stocks like Shree Cements fell after a report indicated that cement companies have dropped plans to hike prices for the month of November. “Cement prices have seen some correction especially in eastern market and in western market there was a hike after Diwali, which has been reversed right now,” added Jain. The top five gainers on the Nifty 50 were all auto stocks after Morgan Stanley said that the chip shortage, which had stalled production for car makers around the world, may be easing finally. A similar commentary from Uttar Pradesh-based electronic products manufacturer Dixon Technologies took the shares higher. <div type="image" title="dixon" height="900" width="1200" msid="87736216" hostid="261"></div> Some of the most traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange ⁠— the largest by volume ⁠— were auto parts makers Mahindra CIE and Suprajit Engineering, and cloud solutions company Tanla Platforms. All three stocks saw nearly ten times the volume of shares traded on an average in the last five days, and all three of them gained over 5% today. Aegis Health and P&amp;G Health hit a 52-week low today. Investors continued to dump shares of IndusInd Bank and Hindalco and both shares are now among the biggest losers on the Nifty 100 index in the last one month. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the billion dollar company that has a near monopoly in railway ticket bookings and catering, jumped 1.8% today. Still, it’s shareholders have lost over 21% of the value in the last one month. <ul><li><keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> has announced the launch of its program <keyword id="8116735" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TACNet">TACNet</keyword>, where it collaborates with <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups">startups</keyword> for innovative solutions. </li><li>The auto giant is calling for <keyword id="6355684" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Blockchain">blockchain</keyword> enabled solutions in automotive, parking marketplace, NLP native chatbot, demand prediction algorithm.</li><li>The Indian <keyword id="34478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry">auto industry</keyword> is still facing a massive slowdown with Tata Motors also being badly hit.</li></ul>Indian auto manufacturing giant Tata Motors has launched its program for startups – Tata Motors AutoMobility Collaboration Network 2.0 (TACNet 2.0). Through the program, Tata Motors is calling for blockchain enabled solutions in automotive, parking marketplace, NLP native chatbot, demand prediction algorithm, real time monitoring of fuel quality (BSVI) and authenticating genuine spare parts. “Today, almost every segment of the automotive value-chain is required to drive its own innovation story. As a leading Indian automotive brand, we need to constantly keep innovating for better serving the market, our customers and the categories we cater to. In the current age of uncertainty and speed of change, the above effort of sourcing solutions will need to be driven both through in-house initiatives as well as collaborating with external partners,” said Shailesh Chandra, President – Electric Mobility Business &amp; Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors Ltd. Tata Motors has been working on innovation by partnering with startups. In June last year, the company had made its first startup acquisition by buying a 26% stake in logistics startup TruckEasy, which works like an Uber for trucks. It had also partnered with Zoomcar to push forward its electric vehicles – Tata Tigor EV. The company has been in the massive slowdown that has hit the Indian auto industry. In August, Tata Motors saw a massive decline of 58% in passenger vehicles sales. For the first quarter, it had posted a massive loss of ₹36.8 billion in the first quarter of the current financial year. The losses for the quarter have doubled as compared to ₹18.6 billion in the same quarter of last year.

Tata Motors is asking startups for blockchain enabled solutions for the automotive industry

<ul><li>Samsung was ranked as India's most consumer-focused brand. </li><li>Tata Motors secured second position in the list of ‘India’s Most Consumer Focused Brands 2019’. </li><li>Moreover, three tata brands namely Tata Motors, Tata Salt and Tata Tea were featured in the top 20.</li></ul> It seems that when it comes to customer loyalty, foreign brands in India are leading the way. According to TRA survey, Samsung topped the list of India’s most consumer-focused brands 2019, showing where Indians were most likely to spend their disposable income. Samsung was followed by Tata Motors, Apple, Hero and MotorCorp. The study ranked top 500 consumer brands in India based on patterns on a ‘buying propensity index’. “Samsung showed an upward projection of eight ranks to secure the top position on the list this year. The South Korean conglomerate dominates the Indian market by displaying its determined supremacy through complete consumer focus, thus dominating their mind and perception, <a href="http://trustadvisory.info/tra/home.php">said </a>the report. Of the 11,000 brands studied, only 500 brands improved their ‘buying propensity’ over the last year. Tata Motors, which was not on the list last year, is the new entrant securing second position. It is also the most consumer-focused four-wheeler manufacturer brand in India. Life Insurance Corporation (6), LG (7). HDFC (8), <keyword id="486961" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj-Pulsar">Bajaj Pulsar</keyword> (9) and Vivo (10) were also featured on the top 10 list. Three out of top five consumer based brands in India are foreign-origin: Study

New Delhi, Jan 6 () Tata Motors did not produce a single unit of its entry-level car Nano in 2019 although it sold just one unit in February even as the company is yet to officially retire Ratan Tata's "people's car". 
According to a regulatory filing by the company, Tata Motors had zero production and sales of the Nano in December 2019 while it produced 82 units and sold 88 units in December 2018.
Similarly, in November 2019 there was zero production and sales of the entry-level model, whereas in the year-ago period it produced 66 units and sold 77 units.
 In October 2019 also, according to the filing, it did not produce or sell any unit of the Nano while in the year-ago month it rolled out 71 units while selling 54 units.
 In the first nine months of 2019 also Tata Motors did not produce a single unit of Nano.
 The company did not sell a single unit in any month last year except February when it sold just one, according to several regulatory filings by the company.
 Tata Motors has so far been maintaining that no decision has been made yet on the future of the Nano saying production planning of a car is a "conscious management of demand, system inventory and planned efficiencies".
It has, however, admitted that in its current form the Nano will not meet the new safety regulations and BS-VI emission norms. 
Tata Motors had unveiled Nano in January 2008 at the Auto Expo with much expectations of being "the people's car", as dubbed by the then Tata group chief Ratan Tata. However, it could not live up to the billing with sales dwindling over the years.
 On the issue of discontinuing the Nano, the company has been insisting that "decisions on product life cycle is a holistic view taken after considering the market developments, regulations and emerging competitive landscape. Any such decisions are announced as and when it's taken".
 Company officials had, however, hinted that production and sales of the Nano would stop from April 2020 as Tata Motors has no plans to invest further on the model to meet strict emission norms under Bharat Stage-VI, which come into effect from April 1 this year and other safety regulations.
 The Nano was launched in the market in March 2009 with an initial price of close to Rs 1 lakh for the basic model despite cost escalations, with Tata insisting that "a promise is a promise".
 However, from the beginning, Nano courted trouble. It was originally planned to be rolled out from Tata Motors' proposed plant at Singur in West Bengal, where it faced intense political and farmer protests against land acquisition. The company had to shift its production to a new plant at Sanand in Gujarat.
 Instances of the car catching fire initially after it was launched didn't help its cause either. Tata had admitted that the company made the mistake of promoting the Nano as 'the cheapest car'.
 It became a loss-making model for Tata Motors with ex-Tata Sons chairman Mistry, who was abruptly removed from the post, even claiming that the Nano "consistently lost value, peaking at Rs 1,000 crore".
 Mistry also termed the Nano one of the "legacy hotspots" and there was "no line of sight to profitability for the Nano, (or) any turnaround strategy".
