Tata Motors reveals Avinya, a concept electric car with 500 km range

Pure electric mid-sized SUVs for international markets are to be launched from 2025 onwards, according to a release from Tata Motors. The electric cars, based on the Avinya concept, will now be developed on JLR's Electrified Modular Architecture in exchange for a royalty fee, according to the press release issued on Thursday. "Avinya stands for 'Innovation' and represents our vision for a new paradigm in personal mobility. Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class EVs, with global standards in efficiency and range. We are delighted to collaborate on the EMA platform with JLR for actualizing this vision," Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head HV Programmes, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Thomas Mueller, Executive Director, Product Engineering, JLR, said, "We are proud that JLR's world class engineering expertise, demonstrated by our EMA platform, will help accelerate TPEM's electrification journey. This partnership is a further example of great collaboration within the Tata Group, to share value, knowledge and deliver synergies". The access to JLR's platform will help accelerate TPEM's entry into the high-end EV segment while reducing development cycle time and costs. The rise of Tata Motors has been spectacular, and the numbers reflect this – its car sales grew from 35,300 units in December 2021, to 72,500 units in April 2022. This includes around 30,900 commercial vehicles and 41,600 passenger vehicles. On a year-on-year basis, Tata Motors registered a growth of 74% when compared to April 2021, with its sales surging from 41,700 units. TVS launched the iQube electric scooter earlier and the new updated version comes with an improved design, better range and other improvements. Coming to the iQube ST, it is equipped with a larger 5.15kWh battery pack and is claimed to offer a range of 145 km on a single charge. The scooter can be fully charged in 4 hours and 6 minutes. The Ather 450X is equipped with a 2.9kWh battery pack and is claimed to offer a 116km range. The Ola S1 Pro is equipped with a 3,97kWh battery pack and is claimed to offer a range of 135 km. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> All three variants of the TVS iQube are equipped with a 4.4kW electric motor that is capable of taking the scooter from 0 to 40 kmph in just 4.2 seconds. Meanwhile, the Ather 450X is equipped with a 6kW motor that takes it from 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds. It offers a top speed of 80 kmph. The Ola S1 Pro also offers a 7-inch touchscreen, allowing users to navigate, track notifications, play music and more. <ul><li>The private sector bank reported 54% rise in net profit driven by fall in provisions and improving asset quality performance.</li><li>However, shares of the bank slipped sharply by 4.5% today.</li><li>Analysts believe some of the weakness in the stock could be attributed to fall in margin, higher operating expense and overall poor market condition.</li></ul>Shares of the private sector bank, <keyword id="6355975" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank" source="Orion">Axis Bank</keyword> slumped sharply by 4.5% on April 29 despite the lender reporting strong profit during the January-March quarter. The bank posted a 54% year-on-year rise in net profit at ₹4,118 crore compared to ₹2,677 crore in the same quarter last year backed by sharp fall in provisions and improvement in asset quality. However, analysts believe March quarter was a mixed bag and some of the weakness in the stock could be attributed to fall in margin, higher operating expense and overall poor market condition. “Axis Bank delivered a mixed performance with net earnings picking up sharply, supported by lower provisions, even as margin declined and operating expense (OPEX) stood elevated,” said analysts at Motilal Oswal. Analysts at Prabhudas Lilladher also believed that the earnings were mixed as it said, “Loan growth was a tad higher led by retail, but the management was a bit cautious on credit growth in FY23 owing to a tougher global environment. The likelihood of realising the RoE (return on equity) forecast of 16% seems slim in the medium term as margin recovery could be protracted and operating expenditure may remain elevated.” <div type="image" title="axis bank operating expense" height="900" width="1200" msid="91176754" hostid="261"></div>Meanwhile, some analysts feel the ongoing weakness in the market could have led to the sell off. “The correlation between the earrings and stock price should not be done currently because the market is in a sell off mode,” Deven R Choksey, managing director at KR Choksey Investment Managers, told Business Insider. <ul><li>One in three Indians believes that the <keyword id="10409955" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fourth-wave" source="Orion">fourth wave</keyword> of COVID-19 has already arrived in the country.</li><li>Business Insider spoke to a few doctors and experts to gain some perspective on the reason behind rising <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">COVID</keyword> cases and possibility of fourth wave in India.</li><li>Indians should be more ‘vigilant’ and should not worry about the new wave, said Dr. Anita Mathew.</li></ul>India is facing an uptick in COVID-19 cases for a couple of weeks now and it has again raised concerns over the probability of a fourth wave in the country. Today, April 29, over 3,300 new cases were reported with 60 new fatalities, while the total number of active cases crossed 17,000. States like Delhi, Maharashtra, Kerala are witnessing the maximum surge in daily COVID-19 cases. Prime Minister Modi in a meeting, on Wednesday, April 27, with state chief ministers asked to take appropriate actions to control the spread of the virus in their respective states. The national capital recorded over 1,500 cases on Thursday, April 28, and two deaths. “There are over 5,000 active cases in New Delhi but hospital admissions are quite low,” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain in a statement on Thursday. Very few recombinant variants of the coronavirus have been found in India and none of those have shown increased transmission, nor were they associated with severe disease or hospitalisation, according to a report of the Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). The INSACOG report further suggested that some labs in New Delhi have detected a new variant of Omicron i.e. BA.2.12.1 and it could be linked to rise in cases in the national capital. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Fourth wave of COVID-19 to hit India?" comment="subhead" text="Fourth wave of COVID-19 to hit India?">Fourth wave of COVID-19 to hit India?</cmsannotation> According to a survey conducted by LocalCircles, which is a community social media platform, one in three Indians believe that the fourth wave of COVID-19 has already started. The survey received responses from 11,563 people in India. However, a few doctors and experts have a different opinion on this. Business Insider spoke to a few doctors and experts to gain some perspective on the reason behind rising COVID cases and possibility of fourth wave in India. “The probability of a fourth Covid-19 wave in India is low. Although, there is [an] ongoing increase in cases in some northern states of India, there is no scientific, epidemiological, virological reason to predict a fourth COVID wave in India”, said Dr. Subhash Thuluva, senior vice president and head of clinical development at Biological E. Another eminent virologist Dr. T Jacob John also believes that the likelihood of a fourth wave of COVID-19 in the country is ‘extremely low’. “If a fourth wave comes it will be a total surprise to me. Therefore, I cannot guess anything about it. The probability of a fourth wave is extremely low. Our best defence against the ill-effects of a wave is very high coverage of vaccination,” John <a href="https://www.aninews.in/news/national/general-news/probability-of-4th-covid-19-wave-extremely-low-says-virologist-jacob-john20220426135322/">said</a>. India has already vaccinated around 1.8 billion people so far. According to news agency ANI, 75% of the adult population has been vaccinated with the first dose, while 65% have received their second dose as well. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Doctors say no need to worry or panic" comment="subhead" text="Doctors say no need to worry or panic">Doctors say no need to worry or panic</cmsannotation> “The present cases reported are mild in nature with very few hospitalisations. Breakthrough infections in people who are vaccinated can be expected, but studies have shown that in fully vaccinated individuals, vaccines are effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and death and symptoms are more likely to be mild,” Thuluva added. According to Dr. Anita Mathew, who is an infectious disease specialist at Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Indians should be more ‘vigilant’ and should not worry about the new wave. She urged people to follow the COVID appropriate behaviour as it is the only way to reduce the transmission. The third wave of COVID, which was largely due to the Omicron variant was said to be less severe as compared to the second wave that happened exactly one year ago. “With a significant adult population vaccinated, or having already contracted COVID-19, we are hopeful that it will be less severe if we have the fourth wave unless there is a new more virulent, and transmissible variant that will elude previous vaccine immunity,” Mathew told Business Insider. Protection level may increase more significantly with a third precautionary or booster dose of vaccination. So, the new wave, if it occurs, may not be as severe as the second wave. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="New symptoms are emerging" comment="subhead" text="New symptoms are emerging">New symptoms are emerging</cmsannotation> Dr. Pruthu Narendra Dhekane, consultant and infectious disease specialist at Fortis Hospital at Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru said that symptoms are slightly seen to be different in presentation. He said, “In [the] first, second and third waves — mostly symptoms for COVID have largely been [the] same, however, the symptoms have slightly been different in presentation as there has been a mix up in the immunological with natural infection and vaccine mediated immunity and new variants. So, people are not experiencing the standard symptoms, but slight differences are there.” Other than fever, cough and cold, sore throat – stomach problems, diarrhea are also now counted as early COVID signs. “In recent COVID-19 cases, early symptoms like fever, sore throat, cough, mucus and cold, and stomach problems like vomiting or diarrhoea were seen. All the symptoms were of lesser duration when compared to those of previous waves. Most of the affected individuals show minimal or no symptoms (asymptomatic). Symptoms of newer COVID-19 cases are typical COVID symptoms except that the involvement of [the] respiratory tract is less than that of the COVID-19 cases from first and second waves,” Thuluva told Business Insider.
