Indian techies won’t benefit from the second centre of the Swiss banking major <keyword id="6365707" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UBS">UBS</keyword> in India as it is looking forward to doing nearly 60% of its technology and operations work in-house. This move will take work away from Indian IT companies. 
 UBS has always been a generous spender on IT and BPO services. UBS joins financial firms like American Express, Bank of America and consumer company <keyword id="6361491" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Procter-Gamble">Procter &amp; Gamble</keyword> to take work back in-house. The trend however, didn’t worked well for the Indian IT sector, which has already seen growth slow down as clients hold on to their purse strings. 
 "We have centres in Poland, China, the US and in India. We are notionally targetting doing about 60% of work in-house and using vendors for the rest,” <keyword id="3937282" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="markus-lickert">Markus Lickert</keyword>, global head of <keyword id="3937279" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ubs-business-solution-centres">UBS Business Solution Centres</keyword>, told ET. 
 
The company currently outsources about 70% of its technology and operations work. 
 "In the next 3-5 five years, I expect there will be a consolidation. The company's insourcing strategy had been created in 2014, when it decided to build centres that would hold its IT and operations work. UBS is now building its second centre at Navi Mumbai to mainly do risk management work, though in time the centre is also expected to provide services related to IT infrastructure management. The centre will open next year and we think it would initially hold 1,500 people. But when you establish such centres, there is a growth plan, so we can put up to 3,000 people between UBS employees and our partners,” <keyword id="3937278" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lickert">Lickert</keyword> told ET. 
 
The centre will hold UBS employees as well as some from UBS' outsourcing vendors. 
 In India, UBS work with companies like <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> and Tata Consultancy Services. 
 
Likert also said that there would likely be more insourcing among the financial services companies as they look for more innovation. 
 
"I would support the idea there is more work going in-house particularly among the financial services industry. We are looking to be more differentiated and we have seen our IT and BPO partners sometimes struggle with the pace of innovation,” hetold ET. 
 
According to the experts, Indian IT players could do more to hold on to the business. 
 
"Sometimes Indian IT companies do not offer automation and outcome-based pricing because they are scared of cannibalising their revenue, especially where the contracts are FTE-based. They should start offering this to the more mature clients who are looking at insourcing,” Dinesh Goel, India head at outsourcing consultancy ISG,told ET. 
 
The National Association of Software and Services Companies have slashed the expected growth rate for the industry to 8-10% from its previous estimate of 10-12% growth.

Now the company is eyeing to accumulate more wealth from emerging businesses. 
 
TCS has said there is big opportunity in the Big Data, Cloud and mobility business. They have said that the company can earn up to 5 Billion USD in the next 3-4 years from these businesses. Cloud, Big data and mobility have grown in a large manner in the world as well as India. The mandate is growing by the day, as businesses and people are looking towards them and steadily demanding for services around them. 
 
This is a big opportunity for IT services companies like TCS to quickly adapt and procure a solid spot in the eco system. This will enlarge their gamut and also get the company ready for the next level. 
 
"The way to look at it is that, when I originally said it, I said that over the next three to four years we will do $5 billion cumulative. But now, I think we will do much more than that on a cumulative basis," said TCS CEO and Managing Director N Chandrasekaran. 
 
We do believe the numbers are achievable and do look realistic as far as a four year plan is concerned. Cloud services is a large emerging sector and is the next big place to be in. Our prediction is most of TCS’s money should come from this sector (overseas included), closely followed by Mobility.

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, is piloting a digital learning project for its employees and fresh recruits, a move aimed to reduce the time spent in their training. 
 
Indian IT firms have been looking for ways to maintain margins, one of which is to boost the utilisation rate of employees. 
 
“We are piloting more digital training internally and we can extend this to students hired from campus. Obviously, I can’t do the three-month training before they join, but our assumption is this will help reduce training time and make them productive quicker,” said Ajoyendra Mukherjee, head of global HR at TCS. 
 He also added that the digital recruitment through <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> and <keyword id="28120" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Linkedin">LinkedIn</keyword> had decreased the number of hiring done by third-party recruiters. 
 
“A majority of our recruitment is now done directly. We use third-party recruitment firms just for niche and senior positions,” he said during a Press conference to discuss the findings of the company’s fifth GenY survey. 
The survey, which explored the social media and the Internet usage habits of 18,000 students, showed that Google+ is beginning to gain popularity among the youth. 
 
“These surveys help us understand the workforce for tomorrow and helps us make investments in the future,” said Mukherjee.

Piloting Digital Learning Project To Reduce Training Time For Fresh Recruits

BANGALORE: This is a landmark for Indian IT. The country's largest IT services provider, <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS), has broken into the league of top 10 global IT services companies, moving from the 13th position in 2012 to the 10th spot in 2013. 
 
Twelve years ago, when TCS' revenues were about $1 billion, then CEO S Ramadorai had laid out a vision to be among the top 10 by 2010. It's taken a little longer, partly because of the global financial slump of 2008-09, but the company has now got there, and considering the pace at which it is growing compared to its global counterparts, the ranking could get better fairly quickly in the years to come. 
 
"Talk to any incumbent western service provider today, and the one making them all tremble from the sub-continent is TCS," writes Jamie Snowdon, executive VP of research operations at HfS Research, the consultancy firm that compiled the ranking. 
 TCS is estimated to have IT services revenues of $10.1 billion (out of its total revenues of about $12.5 billion). IBM ($54.4 billion), <keyword id="102186" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Fujitsu">Fujitsu</keyword> ($32.1 billion), <keyword id="6528042" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Hewlett-Packard">Hewlett-Packard</keyword> ($29.2 billion) and <keyword id="6370971" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Accenture">Accenture</keyword> ($25.4 billion) lead the list. 
 
The research compares IT services, and excludes other areas such as BPO, R&amp;D services and software/hardware products. And it uses figures for the four quarters of calendar year 2013. TCS rose to the 10th spot displacing Montreal-based IT services firm CGI. 
 India-based companies Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro and <keyword id="28126" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="HCL">HCL</keyword> are at the 15th, 18th, 20th and 25th positions, respectively, all of them rising by one to three spots compared to 2012. HfS Research believes that Cognizant could be in the top 10 in the next 2-3 years, may be at the expense of US IT company CSC. CSC's revenues last year had dropped compared to the year before. 
 
On TCS, HfS says its aggressive targeting of renewals and new business, particularly in continental Europe, was an important factor in driving its assault on the leaders. TCS, it said, is frequently seen as being the most flexible service provider on pricing and terms, and has a developing reputation for winning any deal anywhere in the world at any price, if it really wants. 
 
"The firm is increasingly being perceived by many today as an alternative provider to the Western Tier 1s, that can come in and fix messy contracts and implementations; it has shown an appetite and willingness pick up a lot of the low-margin, low-value work that seemingly every Western Tier 1 wants out of and make the deals profitable and leverageable across clients," said Phil Fersht, CEO of HfS. TCS also has an extraordinary profit margin, something that's normally difficult to achieve in conjunction with high revenue growth.

Tata Consultancy Services Joins Top 10 Global IT Services Companies Club

India's <keyword id="6368235" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-services">IT services</keyword> company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">Tata Consultancy Services</a> is increasing the notice period for its Indian employees to three months from this March. This comes at a time with the Indian <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IT+sector">IT sector</a> is grappling with higher attrition. 
 
"The company has reviewed the Notice Period policy and based on employee feedback and prevailing practices decided to revert to the earlier notice period of 90 days served with effect from March 1, 2016. This will be applicable to India-based employees," Ajoyendra Mukherjee, Executive Vice President and Global Head - HR said. Mukherjee added that the notice period was three months until October 2007, when the company decided to change it. 
 
TCS has well over 300,000 employees, the overwhelming majority of whom are in India. 
 
A TCS spokesperson confirmed the change but declined to comment.

Bharti Airtel and TCS to take on Reliance Jio with 'Made in India' 5G network solution

Indian IT services company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">Tata Consultancy Services</a> reported a 3% sequential revenue growth in Q2. The company fell short of the higher expectations set by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys">Infosys</a>. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">TCS</a>' revenue grew by 3% to $4.2 billion. The net profit rose 3.2% sequentially to $926 million. The company reported an operating margin of 27.1%. That’s an improvement of 78 basis points sequentially. 
 
This average growth may end up hampering <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Consultancy+Services">TCS</a>’ growth aspirations.

rakes in over Rs 27k Crores in Q2

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) reported a 12.9% YoY growth in profits. Its Profit After Tax (PAT) for the first quarter of the current financial year is at Rs 5709 Crores. 
 
The company’s total revenue for Q1 is up by 16.1% YoY and 6.0% QoQ at Rs 25,668 Crores. 
 
The company margin reported at on ehigher than what analysts predicted. It is currently at 26.3%. Utilization came in 86.3%. And the company reported volume growth of 4.8%. 
 
Commenting on the results, TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran said, "Demand from core markets like North America &amp; greater traction for 'Digital' solutions has driven volumes &amp; growth in Q1." "We are investing to train over 100,000 professionals this year in all relevant technologies," he added. 
 
TCS has fuelled hopes in India’s IT earnings this quarter which is expected to be good for most except Tech Mahindra.

net Q1 profits of Rs 5709 Crores

BANGALORE: TCS has become the world's third largest employer of people in the technology sector, with over 3 lakh employees. And given the pace at which it is growing, it could become the second largest employer this year, crossing Hewlett-Packard, and would be fast closing in on leader IBM. 
 
In India, it's one of the biggest creators of jobs in recent years, possibly even the biggest. Besides the Indian army, government departments like the Indian Railways and India Post, and PSU companies like Coal India, there's perhaps no other company that has more employees. And unlike the government departments, which are mostly reducing their staff strength, TCS numbers are rising each year by between 25,000 and 35,000.

 In the last fiscal year, the $13.4-billion <keyword id="146310" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tata-Group-company">Tata Group company</keyword> hired 61,200 people, with the net addition being 24,268, discounting those who left the company. The net addition in each of the past several years has been along similar lines or higher. 
 
 
 
 
 
On the contrary, for some of the leading global tech companies, numbers are dropping given the transformations they are going through to deal with shifts in technology towards areas like cloud computing and mobility. HP had 349,600 employees in 2011, but that number is now down to 317,500. IBM, which has about 4.3 lakh employees, is also in the midst of layoffs. 
 
 
 
 
TCS has said it will hire 55,000 people this year. If the net addition is half of that, it will be well ahead of HP's number by the end of this fiscal. Among Indian IT companies, Infosys is almost 50% of TCS with 1.6 lakh employees. 
 Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst at Greyhound Research, says TCS is ahead of many of its Indian peers in identifying new areas of growth, making <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> and all the right noises. "It is betting big on the Digital Five Forces—mobility, big data, cloud, social media and robotics," he said. 
 
Analysts also find it remarkable that it has grown its people strength so quickly, and yet created an organizational structure nimble enough to handle these numbers. Equally, it has kept its people costs under such control that it is seen as a major factor in its extremely high operating margins (over 28%), perhaps the highest among large companies in the global IT services industry. 
 
Pradeep Mukherji, president and managing partner in global management consulting firm Avasant, said TCS is managing the huge workforce by breaking it into smaller business units that each function virtually as a smaller company. "The depth and breadth of middle management and work delegation, managing a good onshore and offshore mix are some of the key drivers in managing the employee pyramid effectively," he said. 
 
TCS' employee cost has risen from Rs 90 billion in 2007 to Rs 319.2 billion in 2013, but the cost per employee has barely risen in these past seven years. The cost per headcount has grown from Rs 11.5 lakh in 2007, to Rs 12.4 lakh) in 2013, an annual increase of a mere 1.2%, said a report by US-based IT advisory firm HfS Research. "A conservative estimate of 8% annual wage hike in India, 2% hike in developed countries and 4% hike in developing countries will lead to about 7.5% weighted average annual wage hike for TCS' mix of employees," said HfS analyst Pareekh Jain. In other words, TCS has been able to offset its salary hikes through other measures. 
 
One of the biggest of these looks to be a sharp increase in its fresher intake relative to the intake of experienced employees. The percentage of freshers hired (of total hiring) increased to 81% in 2013 from 51% in 2007, finds HfS. 
 
"They have stretched the employee pyramid with an army of junior employees. TCS is aggressively hiring in tier-2 and -3 cities that offsets cost to a large extents TCS has also focused on automation and reusable software tools and frameworks to improve employee productivity," said Sudin Apte, CEO of IT advisory firm Offshore Insights. 
 
Jain believes that hiring more freshers has given TCS the flexibility to deploy them in lower value and transactional activities, thus freeing up experienced resources for higher value work. "Secondly, training freshers for new skills is easier than retraining old resources for new skills," he said. 
 <keyword id="1643718" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ashish-Chopra">Ashish Chopra</keyword>, IT analyst with brokerage firm Motilal Oswal, noted that TCS had also significantly reduced the proportion of employees at client sites overseas, thus reducing the salary burden. 
 
But some also caution that adding employees in such large numbers may not be the best way to go in the longer run. "Linear employee growth is not a sustainable solution in the long run as newer technologies are nudging IT firms to explore non-linear revenue growth, growth delinked from headcount," said Mukherji. 
 
Gogia echoed that: "With new technologies, especially automation, shaping the world, it's only prudent that TCS utilizes its employees effectively."
