Tata Altroz Racer hatchback launched in India starting at ₹9.49 lakh

The <keyword id="6379565" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> was first launched in India as a sedan. The car, then powered by a gutsy 1.6 litre engine, went on to garner quite the fan following amongst tuners and performance enthusiasts across the country. When production of the sedan stopped in 2007, it left many car aficionados sulking. Taking a leaf out of its own history books, <keyword id="44883" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> chose to reintroduce the <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/maruti-suzuki-cars/baleno" data-type="tilCustomLink">Baleno </a>in 2015. This time, however, it was launched as a premium hatchback, aimed at the likes of the <keyword id="596" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> i20 and more recently, the <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/tata-cars/altroz" data-type="tilCustomLink">Tata Altroz</a>. Maruti Suzuki, keen to reinforce the premium identity of the Baleno, sells this hatch from its <keyword id="6382518" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nexa">Nexa</keyword> outlets alone. Prices for this Maruti start off at Rs. 5.98 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi for the base Sigma model and go on to Rs. 9.30 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi for the top of the range Alpha Automatic variant. Although the Baleno hatch was initially launched with a diesel engine as an option, as of now, one can only choose between the 1.2 litre VVT engine and the 1.2 litre Dualjet Dual VVT motor, both of which will drink anything as long as it is petrol. Depending on which model you go for, the engine gets bolted on to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. Once you close the bonnet and step back, you will at once feel that Maruti Suzuki’s HR manager has done a mighty fine job with regard to finding the right designer for the car’s aesthetics. The Baleno’s lines are simple, yet well defined. The surfaces are elegant and devoid of any superfluous slashes that seem to be the flavour of the season these days and the gentle contours in the right areas define the overall stance of the car. After admiring the exteriors, it is time to sample the car from within. The interiors aren’t exactly class leading but they are well appointed and seem to be of decent build quality that will age gracefully. The cabin space is ample for a family of four but if the 5th occupant is somebody other than a child, then the rear seat would seem cramped. On the go, the Baleno is a typical Maruti, and that is a good thing. The car is smooth and refined and will handle almost everything the road throws at it. Stomp on the accelerator and the engine revs up in no time, feeling almost motorcycle-like. Keep the engine buzzing and you’re in for the time of your life whilst chasing corners along an empty mountain road. Of course, this sort of spirited driving is best sampled with the short throw gear shift lever and the clutch pedal of the manual transmission which go a long way in enhancing the thrill of the experience. In the city, however, the effortlessness, convenience and smooth shifting of the CVT is where the joy is to be found. The Baleno’s ride quality is pliant and tackles road undulations with great aplomb. The handling is adequate and on par with the competition, but when you push this Suzuki hard, the tyres will make it ample clear when they’re reaching their limit. All in, the Baleno is a solid buy for all those who want the practicality, solid reliability and low cost of ownership that has come to be synonymous with the Maruti Suzuki marque; but with elegant design, a comfortable cabin and sprightly performance thrown in as well.

EVs take the limelight of Auto Expo 2023 — new launches, concept cars, all the highlights from the auto show

New Delhi, Hyundai Motor India on Monday said it has received around 30,000 bookings for all new version of its <keyword id="10430038" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium-hatchback-i20">premium hatchback i20</keyword> in last 40 days. The company, which is the second largest passenger vehicle maker in the country, said it has already delivered 10,000 units of the model so far. "We are witnessing a truly superlative customer response for the all-new i20 that has captivated the hearts and minds of Indian customers with its futuristic design and advanced technologies," <keyword id="10034969" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyundai-motor-india-director">Hyundai Motor India Director</keyword> (<keyword id="9681741" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="sales-marketing-service">Sales, Marketing &amp; Service</keyword>) Tarun Garg said. The 1.2-litre petrol manual variants are priced between ₹6.79 lakh and ₹9.19 lakh while the automatic trims are tagged at ₹8.59 lakh and ₹9.69 lakh. Similarly, the 1-litre turbo petrol variants with IMT technology are priced at ₹8.79 lakh and ₹9.89 lakh while the seven-speed DCT trims are tagged at ₹10.66 lakh and ₹11.17 lakh. The 1.5-litre diesel variants are priced between ₹8.19 lakh and ₹10.59 lakh. The company said all prices were introductory and would remain in force till December. Hyundai's new i20 receives 30,000 bookings within 40 days of launch

Mumbai, May 18 () Tata Motors on Monday announced a package of offers for safe and convenient personal mobility with easy financing, to help maintain social distancing norms amid the nationwide lockdown. Under the package, with features such as affordable EMIs with long-tenure loans and special offers for frontline warriors, customers can drive home the entry-level model Tiago with customised EMI plan starting at just Rs 5,000 every month (for a loan of Rs 5 lakh) for 6 months. This EMI amount then gradually increases over a maximum tenure of 5 years, the company said. Also, on its entire range of cars and sports utility vehicles, the company is offering 100 per cent on-road funding, Tata Motors said in a release. "In the current times, with safety as the top priority, customers are seeking personal mobility options that are affordable and convenient to avail. Accordingly, we have designed this package to offer choice and enhance their entire experience of owning and driving our entire range of cars and SUVs," said Vivek Srivatsa, marketing head (passenger vehicles business unit), Tata Motors. As an additional benefit, customers can choose from three value-adding options while paying their final EMI, the company said. The options include paying their last bullet EMI in full (about Rs 90,000 on loan of Rs 5 lakh) and take full ownership of the vehicle or return the vehicle to financing partner, Tata Motors Finance, in case of any financial difficulty. The customer, as a third option, can also choose to refinance the final EMI, it said adding that he can also take advantage from the long-tenure EMI schemes (up to eight years), thereby lowering the amount of their monthly EMI payment. Special benefits of up to Rs 45,000 are being offered on the company's cars and SUVs (except the Altroz) to frontline warriors, including doctors, healthcare professionals, essential service providers and police, Tata Motors said in the release. Customers can enquire, request a test drive, make bookings and select their preferred financing option via the recently launched end-to-end online platform from the comfort and safety of their homes or call the nearest dealer, the release stated. Tata Motors offers easy financing option, special benefits for doctors, policemen

Domestic <keyword id="21999883" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passenger-vehicle-retail-sales" source="keywords">passenger vehicle retail sales</keyword> declined 1 per cent year-on-year in May, as blistering <keyword id="21177616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="summer-heat" source="keywords">summer heat</keyword> and elections impacted demand, <keyword id="21580028" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobile-dealers" source="keywords">automobile dealers</keyword>' body <keyword id="20108734" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FADA" source="keywords">FADA</keyword> said on Monday. Passenger vehicle registrations dipped to 3,03,358 units last month, as compared with 3,35,123 units in May 2023. "Dealers cited the impact of elections, extreme heat and market liquidity issues as major factors for the dip in sales last month," the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said. Despite better supply, some pending bookings and discount schemes, the lack of new models, intense competition and poor marketing efforts by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) also affected sales, he added. Additionally, the month saw increased customer postponements and low enquiries, Singhania stated. Due to the extreme heat, the number of walk-ins to showrooms dropped by around 18 per cent, he said. Two-wheeler sales rose 2 per cent to 15,34,856 units in May, as against 14,97,778 units in the same month last year. Singhania said positive rural demand on account of good rains in some regions and improved finance availability kept the counters ticking. Three-wheeler retails rose 20 per cent year-on-year to 98,265 units last month. While commercial vehicle sales witnessed an increase of 4 per cent at 83,059 units last month, as compared to 79,807 units in May 2023. "Despite growth due to a low base from last year and increased bus orders, the industry faced challenges due to wholesale pressures, government policy effects, and negative market sentiment," Singhania said. He noted that the near-term outlook for automobile retail is 'cautiously optimistic', influenced by a mix of positive and challenging factors across various segments. Government formation is expected to bring stability and improve market sentiment, Singhania said. Dealers are hopeful about better supplies and positive movement in key sectors like cement, coal and iron ore, he said. Above normal rains during monsoon, is expected to enhance rural demand and support economic activities, he added. "However, extreme weather, such as heatwaves and heavy rains, along with the reopening of schools in July, might delay purchase decisions," Singhania said. Challenges persist, including intense competition, lack of new model launches and poor marketing efforts by OEMs, he said. FADA, which represents over 15,000 automobile dealerships having over 30,000 dealership outlets, collated sales data from 1,360 out of 1,503 RTOs across the country. A <keyword id="19925751" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobile-app" source="keywords">mobile app</keyword> could help predict if a pregnant woman will develop depression in the latter stages of pregnancy, according to new <keyword id="19913261" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="research" source="keywords">research</keyword>. By asking women to respond to surveys during their first trimester, researchers identified various risk factors, including <keyword id="20015710" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sleep-quality" source="keywords">sleep quality</keyword> and <keyword id="20406931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-insecurity" source="keywords">food insecurity</keyword>, for developing depression. "We can ask people a small set of questions and get a good sense of whether they'll become depressed," said lead author Tamar Krishnamurti, an associate professor of general internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, US. "Strikingly, a lot of risk factors for future depression are things that are modifiable -- such as sleep quality, concerns about labour and delivery and, importantly, access to food -- meaning that we can and should do something about them," said Krishnamurti. Identifying women vulnerable to developing depression in the earlier stages of pregnancy could help tailor preventive care and offer support to address underlying causes, the researchers said. For the study, the researchers analysed the survey responses of 944 <keyword id="19905236" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pregnant-women" source="keywords">pregnant women</keyword> who used the app as part of a larger study and did not have a history of depression. In their first trimester of pregnancy, the women responded to questions about demographics and their medical history, along with those on stress and feelings of sadness. Some of the 944 women also responded to optional questions on social factors related to their health, such as food insecurity. All women were screened for depression once every trimester. The researchers developed six machine-learning models using all the data. The best one was found to be 89 per cent accurate in predicting depression in a pregnant woman. A machine learning algorithm is a form of artificial intelligence that learns from past data to make predictions. The accuracy of the model rose to 93 per cent when the researchers included the responses to optional questions on health-related social factors. They found that food insecurity, or access to food, emerged as an important risk factor for pregnant women to develop depression in the latter stages of pregnancy. The researchers are now developing methods to integrate these survey questions into clinical settings and identifying how clinicians could have these conversations with patients about the risk of depression. Mobile app may predict depression in pregnant women

The rupee depreciated 10 paise to 83.50 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Monday, largely due to the rise in the <keyword id="19976503" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar-index" source="keywords">dollar index</keyword> and US yields. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said uncertainty among market players was down as <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> was sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday for a record-equalling third term. However, the strength of the American currency in the international market weighed on the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.48 and lost further ground to trade at 83.50 against the greenback, registering a loss of 10 paise from its previous closing level. On Friday, the rupee appreciated 13 paise to 83.40 against the US dollar. According to Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, the rupee opened at 83.50 largely due to the rise in the dollar index and US yields. "The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should be present protecting the rupee as existing policies of the government will continue with largely the same cabinet as in Modi-2.0," Bhansali said. Modi will be heading a 72-member Union Council of Ministers putting emphasis on continuity, youth and experience, while also rewarding partners in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Along with Modi, senior BJP leaders including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, all ministers in the Modi 2.0 cabinet, took oath as cabinet ministers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 105.18, higher by 0.29 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.31 per cent to USD 79.87 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, both benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, scaled record high levels in initial trade. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 292.08 points, or 0.38 per cent higher at 76,985.44 points. The broader NSE Nifty was trading at 23,291.50 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 4,391.02 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, India's forex reserves jumped USD 4.837 billion to a new all-time high of USD 651.51 billion for the week ended May 31, the RBI said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had dropped USD 2.027 billion to USD 646.673 billion.
