Tata AIG ropes Ranbir Kapoor as its brand endorser

Mumbai, Jun 4 () Tata AIG General Insurance has joined the list of a select few insurers to offer usage-based insurance cover to private car owners which reduces the overall premium payout. The new policy called 'AutoSafe' uses telematics-based next-gen application and device to track the usage of the car and decide on the premium. The app helps policyholders save on premium by selecting the kilometers-driven, promotes safe driving, works as anti-theft device as it comes with a GPS-based tracking facility. Last month, Edelweiss General Insurance had also launched a similar product offering similar benefits. Available on all policies offering personal accidental cover to the tune of Rs 15 lakh for owner and driver, this app also tracks the distance the vehicle has covered, live speed and other driving patterns and offers bonus kilometers for good driving at the time of the renewal, the company said in a statement on Thursday. The usage-based private car cover, launched under the Irdai's regulatory sandbox, is more affordable offering customised solution towards one's driving profile apart from offering other value-added propositions like depreciation reimbursement, daily allowance, no-claim bonus etc. "Policyholders will benefit from flexible kilometer-based premium that enables savings. One can choose between 2,500, 5,000, 7500, 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 kms," it said, adding if all the kilometers is exhausted within the policy period one can top-up km between 500 and 1,500 kms. The Autosafe device is GPS-enabled and is linked to a mobile app that records all information, tracks the distance travelled and generates reports about vehicle health or driving patterns of the policyholder. This telematics device is fitted or linked to the car as the insurance policy becomes active and must be kept throughout the policy period. This device also comes with motion sensor and generates fuel-saving reports apart from monitoring hard-braking, nighttime driving and acceleration apart from guarding against fuel slippage and dangerous driving habits. Parag Ved, executive vice-president, said with regulatory sandbox permitting telematics-based solutions, insurance will become more intuitive and responsive to customer needs and our new policy meets and reflects this. "The shift towards pay-as-you-drive insurance makes sense in this uncertain time when unnecessary journeys are discouraged, and organizations and employees alike are discovering the benefits of working from home". Tata AIG launches 'pay-as-you-drive cover' for private cars

New Delhi, Jan 29 () Regulator Irdai has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore each on ICICI Lombard GIC and Tata AIG General Insurance Company for violation of various norms.
 The regulator has slapped the penalty on ICICI Lombard for violation of certain provisions related to health insurance policies. Irdai has also issued certain directions and advisory to the company.
 In a separate order, Irdai imposed the penalty on Tata AIG General Insurance Company for violation of provisions for protection of policyholders' interests. NKD CS ABM

MUMBAI: Indian banks are increasingly seeking <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> cover against fraudulent online transactions, including those involving credit cards, as a rising use of plastic money and the ease of <keyword id="35619" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="internet-business">Internet business</keyword> potentially increase lenders’ exposure to cases of data breach. 
 Data from insurance companies show that large banks are opting for policies worth Rs 500 crore to shield against fraud, including online, while mid-sized banks are going for policies in the range of Rs250-300 crore. “Demand for insurance policy against <keyword id="6359049" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="phishing">phishing</keyword>, skimming and Internet hacking has gone up in the last one year,” said TR Ramalingam, head of underwriting at <keyword id="6358511" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bajaj">Bajaj</keyword> <keyword id="6443198" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Allianz">Allianz</keyword> General Insurance. “Enquiries have gone up and we are working on how to price the product and working on the wording.” 
 Earlier, insurance policies did not include computer-related frauds, but now insurers expect it to be big in coming days. The premium, which depends on several factors, ranges between 1% and 2% of liability the bank is looking to insure. In 2012-13, domestic banks lost Rs17,284 crore on account of fraud, according to information obtained through the Right to Information Act. During the period, 62 banks filed a total of 26,598 cases related to online frauds. <keyword id="818773" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="The-situation">The situation</keyword> has compounded the woes of the bank sector where lenders are facing huge non-performing assets. “The policy covers cyber extortion and breach of data privacy,” said M Ravichandran, president, Tata <keyword id="6477487" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="AIG">AIG</keyword> General Insurance. “There is a lot of talk around cyber insurance and people are actively looking to secure these exposures.” 
 
While companies like Tata AIG have underwriting capabilities for these policies, for others, it is reinsurance driven. Cyber extortion policy pays a ransom to a person who has hacked into the bank’s website with a threat to divulge, destroy or steal confidential information. Last year, ATM cards of a leading private sector bank’s customers were skimmed and about Rs15.48 lakh stolen from accounts.

Rising Online Fraud Pushes Banks To Seek Insurance Cover

Nearly Rs 1,000-crore worth stock of <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) are owned by the fired chairman of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword>, according to a report by software major's annual. Mistry also owns some percentage in the other companies of the group like <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>, Indian Hotels, Tata Global, <keyword id="6354310" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Chemicals">Tata Chemicals</keyword> and <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword>, the report added. Regardless of him being fired as the chairman of Tata Sons, he still is the Chairman of these companies along with some others too. 
 
The stocks that are owned by Mistry is in addition to the 18.5% stake that his family group- Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) Group- owns in Tata Sons. The worth of SP Group’s holding on 1st November was Rs 81,140 crore. 
 SP group also holds Rs 63,158 crore worth of stakes in TCS too and that is a little over three fourth of the total company. The family group of Mr. Mistry also hold a substantial stock like Rs 7,983 crore worth stakes in Tata Motors, RS 1,500 crore worth stakes in Tata Communication, Rs 2,279 worth stakes in <keyword id="237814" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Steels">Tata Steels</keyword>, 1,281 crore, Rs 1,281 crore worth stakes in Titan and Rs 1,234 crore worth stakes in Tata Power. 
 
Other than the direct holding in 15 listed companies, Tata Sons has an indirect control over many other companies in which it holds stakes through other companies.

Welcome to the world of pay-as-you-drive insurance where your insurance depends on how much you drive the car. While this concept has existed in more developed economies for some years now and is now making an entry in the Indian market. Under basic car insurance, the premium is classified under a single slab, irrespective of the driving and usage patterns of the users. However, the fact remains that there are many customers, who do not drive frequently, but need to pay a similar amount of premiums as the person with higher car usage. “To bridge this gap, the add-on cover of Pay-as-you-drive (PAYD) has been introduced, which tailors insurance premiums based on the distance driven rather than fixed flat premium,” says Parthanil Ghosh, president, retail business, HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company. “This is a breakthrough in motor insurance given that a huge number of people, especially those living in metros, working in corporates/jobs, hardly take out their cars, use more of public transport and taxis, therefore are at lower risk of damage/accidents,” says Vivek Chaturvedi, CMO, head direct sales, Digit General Insurance. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Subhead" text="So, how does the PAYD cover work?">So, how does the PAYD cover work?</cmsannotation> Customers choose a kilometre option based on average daily run, and the premium is computed accordingly. Third-party coverage is annual, and own damage coverage ceases once the kilometre limit lapses. Customers can top up kilometres by paying an additional premium. “A policyholder who primarily uses public transport or works from home pays premiums based on limited car usage, leading to substantial cost savings compared to traditional flat-rate premiums.” says Neel Chheda, senior executive vice president and head- auto and actuarial analytics, Tata AIG General Insurance Company. Kilometres-based plans typically start with a limit of 2500 kilometres per year, with additional slabs like 5000, 7500, 10000, and so on. “Customers choosing a 2500 km plan receive coverage up to that limit from the policy start date, and in case a customer feels that they are about to exhaust their kilometers, they can purchase additional kilometers during the policy based on their requirement. Lower kilometer slab plans come with higher additional discounts, while higher km slab plans have lower additional discounts,” says Nitin Kumar, head, motor insurance, Policybazaar.com. For example, if a customer is driving, say, less than 6,000 kilometres per year, other parameters remaining the same, they will pay a lesser premium than a customer who drives say more than 10,000 kilometres per year. The PAYD add-on ensures that policyholders are not charged a substantial premium based on the car's make and model. Instead, the payment is determined by the frequency of the vehicle's usage. How does the car company keep track? “We have an OBD device that is linked to the mobile phone that captures the data of the vehicle and is linked to our system. The cost could be more in private hospitals in metro cities or in case of C-section, or Caesarean birth. For working professionals, maternity cover might be included as a part of their corporate group medical insurance. However, the coverage limit under such plans are generally low, typically in the range of ₹30,000 for normal deliveries and ₹50,000 for C-section deliveries. Policy exclusions and conditions for maternity health insurance vary from insurer to insurer. So, select a policy by comparing its features, inclusions, and exclusions online. When purchasing health insurance, it's important to consider the waiting period before coverage begins. “Keep in mind that if you are already pregnant, you will not be covered. A good time to purchase maternity coverage is when getting married or renewing your health insurance plan. Waiting periods can vary from insurer to insurer, ranging from 9 months to several years. Any expenses arising due to pregnancy complications are also covered. The policy also covers any number of medically necessary and lawful terminations. Hospital expenses of the baby up to 90 days are also covered and includes any post-natal care and required vaccinations during the specified period as well. The cost of vaccinations alone in the first three months may range between ₹5,000- ₹10,000. TCS, Accenture and Barclays’ landlord, Brookfield REIT IPO, has received a mixed response from brokerages — here’s what they have to say

New Delhi, Feb 4 () The Centre on Tuesday told Parliament that some state governments like Rajasthan, Karnataka and Gujarat have debarred four insurance firms -- SBI General Insurance, Tata AIG, Shriram General Insurance and UIIC -- from participating in tender of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana (PMFBY) for one or more seasons. Some state governments have also slapped interest penalty on the Agriculture Insurance Company of India (AIC Ltd), Cholamandalam-MS General Insurance Company, ICICI-Lombard General Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company and SBI General Insurance Company, it said in the Lok Sabha. The PMFBY was launched in January 2016 replacing the older schemes to ensure that farmers pay less premium and get full and early settlement of the claims. In a written statement, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said the government had received some complaints against insurance firms about non-payment and delayed payment of claims during the implementation stage of the scheme. "Most of the complaints were suitably addressed by the concerned state government, insurer and the ministry. Yield data disputes between states and insurance companies are settled by referring the matter to the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) by the state or insurance companies," he said. Further, some states have not only debarred some insurance companies from participating in the tender of PMFBY but also slapped interest penalty for delayed payment of claims to farmers, he added. According to the revised guidelines of PMFBY, insurance companies have to pay penal interest at 12 per cent per annum to farmers for late settlement of claims subject to certain conditions. Tomar said the government has imposed an interest penalty of Rs 3.30 crore on Agriculture Insurance Company of India, Rs 0.09 crore Cholamandalm-MS General Insurance Company, Rs 0.51 crore ICICI-Lombard General Insurance, Rs 0.15 crore New India Assurance Company and Rs 0.16 crore SBI General Insurance Company Ltd in September 2019. In reply, these insurance companies have submitted their explanations requesting for review. A meeting has been called to discuss the explanations submitted by the insurance companies, he added. Apart from this, the minister said state governments have been advised to impose penalties on insurance companies themselves. Accordingly, some state governments like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana have also imposed penalty on insurance companies for non-performance of certain provisions of the scheme and have deducted the penalty from state share of premium subsidy to insurance companies, he added. Eighteen companies, including five public sector companies, have been empanelled for implementation of the scheme in country by the Union agriculture ministry. But, all the companies are not participating in the bidding process in each state or season. Responding to another query, the minister said though the coverage during second year of implementation, 2017-18, of PMFBY slightly decreased due to announcement of loan waiver schemes by some state and making Aadhaar compulsory for de-duplication of coverage, but coverage is showing increasing trends due to the improved features of the scheme and efforts made by the government and other stakeholders. <ul><li>With Google, Apple and Firefox putting an end to third-party cookies, the future of the ad tech industry seems to be cookie-less. </li><li>At the same time, with digital advertising seeing an astronomical demand after COVID, ad frauds in our country are also increasing. </li><li>Airtel’s <keyword id="10821983" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-adtech-platform-airtel-ads">new AdTech platform Airtel Ads</keyword> is promising zero ad frauds to its clients. </li><li>We spoke to Adarsh Nair, Chief Product Officer, <keyword id="6354287" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> to find out how it is going to deliver the promise of zero <keyword id="3381776" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ad-Fraud">ad fraud</keyword> to its clients, goals for this fiscal and focus areas for FY22. </li></ul>After COVID-19 disrupted the world and India entered into a lockdown, all businesses shifted their marketing monnies to digital mediums. It wasn’t just an outreach medium, it became an integral part of their marketing strategy. Today, marketers are bundled with piles of data. However, as the importance of digital marketing increased at an astronomical rate, advertising budgets slashed. So, with the pressure to increase advertising effectiveness, meet client’s expectations and their strict deadlines, ad frauds have also shot up in our country. In 2020, reduced marketing budgets led to lower fraud rates across all apps, improved preventive measures also contributed to a decline in mobile frauds. This year, according to App Flyer, frauds will remain a serious issue as the marketing budgets have started recovering. 20% of all mobile advertising spends in India are wasted on fraudulent impressions and clicks, revealed Mobile Marketing Association. According to market research firm techARC and fraud detection and elimination platform mFilterIt, ad fraud in India will grow to an average of 45%-55% amidst the industry’s recovery from the Coronavirus pandemic. This new prediction is a stark rise from the country’s current ad fraud. Travel, entertainment, and finance were the most affected verticals and will remain most vulnerable to fraud this year. However, Bharti Airtel’s new AdTech platform ‘<keyword id="3285315" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel-Ads">Airtel Ads</keyword>’ is promising zero ad fraud to its clients. According to Adarsh Nair, Chief Product Officer, Bharti Airtel, the first step of avoiding an ad fraud is honesty and transparency. Telling us how the telco will deliver on the promise, Nair said, “If the marketers were a little more careful about where they invested their money, they could avoid ad fraud. But unfortunately, they also push to see impressions and results. And this is where that behaviour starts. However, inside Airtel, there cannot be ad fraud. It is a home-grown system, we are not allowing any of these technologies into our system. We are building everything from ground up. So there's no affiliate, no third-party, it is entirely monitored by us. So when an advertiser comes to us and says, I would like to interact with the youth, and they want to touch 1 million premium views, we will touch 1 million premium views. And if we cannot, we will tell the advertiser, sorry, I don't think we can get to 1 million but we can promise 5,00,000 instead. We're okay with that. This is why I am confident that inside the Airtel app, there cannot be ad fraud because we are not letting anybody from the outside into our system. It is a completely closed system in which our preferred brands can connect with other quality consumers.” <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Future of AdTech and Airtel Ads" text="Future of AdTech and Airtel Ads">Future of AdTech and Airtel Ads</cmsannotation> With a massive increase in mobile consumption and digital ad spends, cookies have become the oil that run the whole system. However, with Apple, Firefox’s Mozilla and Google blocking third-party cookies last year, the future seems to be cookie-less. Airtel, however, is not dependent on cookies at all, which Nair believes, makes its ad tech platform future-ready and error-proof. “The minute cookies are removed, the entire way of advertising will change. And the good news is Airtel Ads does not depend on cookies. We are a trusted platform that works only inside the Airtel ecosystem. We work directly with our consumers and our brands so there's no problem of cookies. We have none of the problems that the existing ad tech industry has. We have a first-party completely controlled ecosystem for Airtel Ads. Therefore, the message I'm giving you today could define the way companies actually think about AdTech in the future. They will go to trusted players and stop giving it to affiliates. And trying to launch big campaigns using cookies --- all that's going to stop and it'll slowly move towards how Airtel is doing business,” said Nair. Nair also told us that the future of AdTech will be to build for India, build for outcomes and build for trust. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Planning process of Airtel Ads" text="Planning process of Airtel Ads">Planning process of Airtel Ads</cmsannotation> Airtel’s plan to launch an AdTech platform began two years ago, when Nair joined the company. He realised that the current AdTech ecosystem woos its clients with quantitative results in terms of clicks and actions but customers often don’t find the right brand of their choice and clients don’t find a long-term value from their deals. AdTech platforms also have limited access to digitally-savvy populace, leaving out a massive opportunity with the spenders in the hinterlands. So, Airtel found a perfect bridge in the market to help brands connect with its 320 million customers. Nair said, “Airtel Ads breaks new ground in the USD 10 billion Indian advertising industry. By abstracting Airtel’s unique strengths of quality customers, best-in-class network and world-class digital platforms, Airtel Ads offers innovative channels for brands to reach the right audiences. What truly differentiates Airtel Ads is its razor-sharp focus on quality over quantity and real impact vs vanity metrics.” Airtel Ads was launched as a beta test a few months before COVID and the platform has already worked with 100 clients across multiple categories – FMCG, BFSI, Digital Startups, etc. Early advertisers include PepsiCo, zomato, CRED, Tata AIG, Lenskart, Apollo 247, Cars24, Gameskraft, Vahan and Harley Davidson. It provides omni-channel access through its apps such as Wynk, Xstream, Thanks App and DTH TV ads. In a span of one year, Airtel Ads has delivered 8 billion plus impressions and generated ₹100 crore annualized revenue. On what helped a new platform achieve the Rs 100 crore milestone in a year, Nair answered with a word, ‘patience.’ “Sometimes, people are in a rush to achieve milestones. You think, 'Let's go make things happen'. But while we have a sense of urgency, we also have a lot of patience. For the first interaction, let’s say we get a budget of Rs 2 lakh only. We’ll happily accept that and draft them a plan. Next month, this amount goes up to Rs 5 lakh, it keeps increasing and soon we are sitting on a Rs 1 crore budget from that same client. So, this patience and focus on the right experience for the brand has been our biggest win. And we are seeing brands come in, trying something with us, liking us and slowly scaling. And this is what I call ‘product scale’, where we are not rushing anybody. We are letting the brands come in and take their time to grow with us,” elobarted Nair. With the Indian advertising industry expected to grow to USD 19 billion by 2025 from the current USD 10 billion, Airtel App is eyeing to capture a meaningful share of the growing pie with its sharp focus on quality. Airtel Ads is also working to bring the offline space under its AdTech network to help its clients connect with non-digital savvy users. It is also planning to adopt a pull strategy to attract more clients this year. Sharing Airtel Ads’ goals for this fiscal, Nair said, “By the end of this year, I think we will easily cross into the 150 brands range, because we've got a month and a half left. We will probably be reaching out to another 50-60 brands, they'll all start from financing with us, so we'll probably cross 150. About the targets beyond that, we know the top 100 brands in India who spend most of their money, they are the ones we want to reach out to. For the remaining probably 2000-3000 brands, we will put out scalable solutions for which they can approach us. We don't have to wait for a salesperson to go to them, they can reach out to us, put a budget on the website and get started.” Airtel Ads will also focus on scaling, offer creative solutions that can help its clients engage more with their targeted audience and improve app intelligence. “We have an ambition to scale beyond the digital, get into the offline/retail side. So, we are constantly monitoring the supply increase. We're also very interested in creative ad solutions. I'll give you an example. Take for instance an online concert where 100,000 users are engaging with an artist. While the artist takes a break, can we create a digital game that all the online users can play, which is actually sponsored by let's say a Pepsi? It'd be a fantastic ad format, which creates engagement. People get to learn about a new company while engaging in the game. Creatives Ad will be a focus area within the supply. On the demand front, it is going to be a constant drumbeat. How do we access all the big advertisers and how do we make sure our solution is also available to the small and medium businesses. That journey will never stop. The rest of my time is spent deep on experience. How do we get the right data that we have today to make sure that we understand it better, so that we only connect the right product to the consumer who needs it? This is where a lot of our tech investments will go,” said Nair, signing off.

Keep unused cards in a safe 
These days, having a number of credit cards is not uncommon. But it’s best to leave those credit cards at home which you rarely use or have assigned for specific things like travel. Check your credit card statements

You need to be cautious at an ATM counter. Make sure there is no device attached to ATM slot as it could be a skimmer to capture your credit card information when you swipe it. If you notice the same, immediately alert the bank. 
 
Keep an eye at the time of transaction 
If a cashier takes too long for the transaction, there are high chances that your card might be getting scanned through skimming terminals to gather the information. Pay attention to the person who is using your card and take it back as soon as possible. 
 
 
Buy identity theft insurance and card protection plans 
Identity theft has become quite common these days. It means stealing somebody’s identity to obtain credit in his or her name. Some insurers like Tata AIG have come up with an identity theft and fraudulent charges insurance. It provides you coverage against any fraudulent charges made on your credit card by stealing your identity. You can also go for card protection plans offered by the likes of ICICI bank, HDFC bank, and Axis bank. If you register with them, you would be able to block all your lost cards with a single call. You would also get lost card replacement assistance. There are different membership plans to choose from, starting from Rs 1,399 to Rs 2,185.
