The launch is part of <keyword id="6354616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter" source="Orion">Twitter</keyword>'s commitment to build for India and serve the country's diverse and multilingual audiences and will help people with Tamil as their primary language to find the most relevant and interesting conversations in the language across literature, music, poetry, and much more, the company said. Tamil is the third most used language on the service in India and Tamil topics will let people choose and personalise the content that they want to see on their home timeline whether it's more tweets on artists like Vijay, Rajinikanth, A.R. Rahman or sports teams like Chennai Super Kings. "Over the years, Twitter has broadened the scope and scale of real-time conversation and connection by providing greater possibilities for intimate and authentic interactions through features such as Spaces. In fact, Tamil audiences were early adopters of Spaces and to celebrate their enthusiasm we introduced a dedicated #TamilSpaces emoji," said Cheryl-Ann Couto, Head of Partners at <keyword id="749437" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="twitter-india" source="Orion">Twitter India</keyword>, in a statement. Twitter launches Tamil topics for Android, iOS and web users

India is a land of diversity in race, region, caste and language. But <keyword id="6354616" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> now offers a platform to break linguistic barriers by rolling out hashtags in non-english launguages. 
 
The trend came in notice on the day when India defeated Pakistan in the ICC <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WorldCup2015?src=hash">#WorldCup2015</a>. Many users, which even includes the <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>, tweeted congratulatory messages to celebrate the first win by using the hashtag <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/%E0%A4%9C%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%B9%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A6?src=hash">#</a><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/%E0%A4%9C%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%B9%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A6?src=hash">जयहिन्द</a>. The microblogging format is very all encompassing, it's easy to create and consume,” said Bidawatka. And that’s how Koo was formed. Koo also raised $4.1 million as part of its Series A funding recently from 3one4 Capital, Accel Partners, Kalaari Capital, Blume Ventures and Dream Incubator. While the valuation of the company, remains undisclosed, Bidawatka said they found the right set of investors who believe in their product, even if it's just 10-month old. And as users keep pouring into Koo, the 40-member team is on overdrive to keep things running. Featuring a star-studded cast of Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the Tamil historical drama hit the theatres globally on September 30. Ratnam's Madras Productions, one of the banners behind the movie, took to Twitter to share the latest box office figures. The production house posted a motion poster which stated that the film has earned over Rs 300 crore worldwide gross. "Success beyond boundaries! Thank you for this tremendous response " the Madras Productions captioned the post. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 historical fiction novel, "Ponniyin Selvan-I" chronicles the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman (played by Jayam Ravi), a powerful king of the south who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. The much-anticipated film opened to positive response from both critics and audiences. 'Ponniyin Selvan II' breaches ₹300 crore mark at global box office

He told the AFP that he ordered a billboard paying respect to Mandela, and that the mix-up was the mistake of the designer. He did not explain why he still put it up.
"We will replace it with the correct picture of Mandela," Chandrashekhar said.

The organisation sponsoring the march, All-India Kisan Sabha, an ally of the Communist Party of India, left no stone unturned when it came to social media.  The march benefited from widespread media coverage. On March 12th, the Indian Express ran a <a href="http://epaper.indianexpress.com/1575825/Delhi/March-12,-2018#page/1/2">front page report</a> on the march and included interviews with 10 participating farmers on the problems they were facing. Scroll conducted <a href="https://www.facebook.com/scroll.in/videos/1718003171615889/?hc_ref=ARS9e9XHfRx2R7ilvXgedCUq-Zqf43UQC40hbD4YM2G547c0iDuf5AHHY0kBTg8_68E&amp;pnref=story.unseen-section">Facebook Live conversations</a> with farmers and Mid-Day ran a front-page headline that read, “Mumbaikars Welcome Farmers With Open Arms”. In a <a href="https://thewire.in/rights/i-walked-40km-with-the-farmers-in-maharashtra-heres-what-i-learnt">piece for the Wire,</a> Ayush Dubey, a young journalist, wrote of his experience as a participant in the march, stating “this is a real protest by a sad farmer community. They are working hard for their demands”. All news outlets explicitly mentioned that the farmers were looking for more than just debt forgiveness. It was clear that they were also calling for the implementation of property rights and minimum support prices for their produce as well as the cancellation of river-sharing agreements. Attention was also drawn to the severity of their conditions, epitomised by their bleeding, blistered feet- a sign of dignified, non-violent desperation. The public didn’t need any more convincing. Images of the march at night went viral on social media on March 11th.  There were also posts that highlighted the ingenuity of the farmers, making them stand out as individuals as opposed to faceless members of a crowd.  The success of the march, especially in terms of public relations, points to why the protests by Tamil Nadu farmers in Delhi last year didn’t amount to much. Starting in March last year, around 150 farmers from Tamil Nadu staged a protest for 144 days outside the Jantar Mantar to ask for a loan waiver, which would be financed by the Centre’s drought relief fund. Their protests also received media coverage and sympathy from statesmen like Rahul Gandhi and the chief minister of Tamil Nadu but failed to elicit the same level of public support as the long march in Maharashtra. There are likely many reasons for this. First, the numbers might have been too low to justify a full-blown media frenzy. 150 farmers feels too small compared to a procession of 40,000 farmers. Secondly, given the fast pace of the 24-hours news cycle, the 144-day protest likely lost relevance to news readers and viewers well before its conclusion. The protest also lacked a groundswell of support from beginning as the farmers from Tamil Nadu weren’t on their home turf. Being stationed in the capital, which was necessary given that it was a federal rather than a state issue, might have actually worked against their favour. Lastly, unlike their counterparts in Maharashtra, their protest tactics, which included the brandishing of skulls, the consumption of faeces and stripping, might have proved too “unpalatable” to the public. With their well-oiled public relations machine and sponsorship by a national farmers union, the Maharashtra farmers were able to wrest public support and effectively demonstrate the importance of their cause.
