Ford is well known for its popular SUVs such as the Endeavour and EcoSport. Ford had exited the Indian market in 2021 due to declining sales. The company, which had two plants in the country had sold one to Indian automaker <keyword id="19906967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Tata Motors" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Tata Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> and planned a shutdown of the second plant. However, it could not wind down its vehicle and engine manufacturing in Chennai by the targeted timeline of the second quarter of 2022. The company on Friday submitted a letter of intent to the Tamil Nadu government, confirming its intention to utilise the Chennai plant for manufacturing for exports. "This step aims to underscore our ongoing commitment to India as we intend to leverage the manufacturing expertise available in Tamil Nadu to serve new global markets," Ford International Markets Group President Kay Hart said. “We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Tamil Nadu Government as we explored different options for the Chennai plant,” Hart added. The company said the strategic move will see the facility repurposed to focus on manufacturing for export to global markets, as part of the company's Ford+ growth plan. “Ford currently employs 12,000 individuals in Global Business Operations in Tamil Nadu, a number expected to grow by 2,500 to 3,000 jobs within the next three years”, it added. "Combined with the engine manufacturing operations in Sanand, India represents Ford's second-largest salaried workforce worldwide," the company said. The company said that further information about the type of manufacturing and other details will be disclosed later. New Delhi [India], March 12 (ANI): The latest data released by the <keyword id="20070866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-statistical-office" source="keywords">National Statistical Office</keyword> (<keyword id="20067517" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nso" source="keywords">NSO</keyword>), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), indicates a slight easing in retail inflation for the month of February 2024. According to the provisional figures provided by the NSO, the retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (General), stood at 5.09 per cent in February 2024. This marks a marginal decrease from 5.10 per cent recorded in January 2024. The combined inflation rate for rural and urban areas came down to 5.09 per cent from the previous month's 5.10 per cent. The data further reveals that the <keyword id="20931744" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="consumer-food-price" source="keywords">Consumer Food Price</keyword> Index (<keyword id="20931745" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cfpi" source="keywords">CFPI</keyword>) witnessed a similar trend, with a slight decrease from 8.30 per cent in January 2024 to 8.21 per cent in February 2024. Both rural and urban areas experienced a dip in food inflation, indicating a marginal relief for consumers across the board. The monthly changes in the General Indices and CFPIs show a negligible increase of 0.16 per cent in the combined CPI (General) and 0.11 per cent in the CFPI from January 2024 to February 2024. This indicates a relatively stable price movement in essential goods and services during the said period. The NSO collects price data from a vast sample size, covering both rural and urban markets across all states and union territories. During February 2024, data was collected from 100 per cent of villages and 98.5 per cent of urban markets. The comprehensive coverage ensures that the inflation figures are representative of the diverse consumption patterns across the country. In terms of the subgroup analysis, notable trends were observed in various categories. Cereals and products, meat and fish, and egg prices showed moderate increases, contributing to the overall inflation rate. On the other hand, certain items like oils and fats experienced a decline in prices, exerting downward pressure on inflation. The NSO has also provided state-wise inflation data, highlighting the varying price dynamics across different regions. New Delhi, Foreign direct investment (<keyword id="19946824" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fdi" source="keywords">FDI</keyword>) inflows in India declined 13 per cent to USD 32.03 billion in April-December 2023, dragged down by lower infusion in computer hardware and software, telecom, auto, and pharma sectors, according to the latest government data. FDI inflows stood at USD 36.74 billion during the corresponding nine months of the preceding fiscal. Inflows during the October-December quarter of the current fiscal, however, rose by 18 per cent to USD 11.6 billion as against USD 9.83 billion during the same quarter of 2022-23. The total FDI -- which includes equity inflows, reinvested earnings and other capital -- declined by about 7 per cent to USD 51.5 billion during the period under review against USD 55.27 billion in April-December 2022, the data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) showed. During the nine-month period of this fiscal, FDI equity inflows decreased from major countries, including Singapore, the US, the UK, Cyprus and the UAE. Investments fell significantly from the Cayman Islands and Cyprus to USD 215 million and USD 796 million, respectively, during April-December 2023 as against the two comparative figures of USD 624 million and USD 1.15 billion recorded in the year-ago period. However, inflows increased from <keyword id="19956313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mauritius" source="keywords">Mauritius</keyword>, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany. Sectorally, inflows contracted in computer software and hardware, trading, services, telecommunication, automobile, pharma and chemicals. In contrast, construction (infrastructure) activities, development and power sectors registered growth in inflows. State-wise, Maharashtra received the highest inflow of USD 12.1 billion during the period. It was USD 10.76 billion in the same period a year ago. Overseas capital inflows in Karnataka plunged to USD 3.6 billion in April-December 2023 from USD 8.77 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. Other states/Union Territories where FDI dipped during the period under review included Delhi, <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, West Bengal, <keyword id="19898913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan" source="keywords">Rajasthan</keyword> and <keyword id="19904807" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana" source="keywords">Haryana</keyword>. The inflow, however, recorded a positive growth in Gujarat, Telangana, and Jharkhand. An official has earlier stated that hardening interest rates globally and worsening geopolitical situation impacted FDI inflows. FDI equity inflows into India declined 22 per cent to USD 46 billion in 2022-23.

Through this strategic move the auto major aims to bring the Nexa service experience to customers in non-urban centres, the company said in a statement. The first six centres inaugurated are strategically located in Ateli (Haryana), Charkhi Dadri (Haryana), Bankura (West Bengal), Dahod (Gujarat), Nirmal (Telangana), and Ooty (<keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>), it added. "With the growing similarities in consumer preferences in urban and non-urban centres, there is a notable increase in interest for our Nexa offerings from both regions," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Managing Director &amp; CEO Hisashi <keyword id="20479960" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="takeuchi" source="keywords">Takeuchi</keyword> stated. Almost 30 per cent of the Nexa sales come from non-urban centres, he added. "To cater to these customers, we are introducing these compact-format Nexa service workshops. Our goal is to set up 100 such workshops by the end of FY 2024-25," Takeuchi noted. Maruti launches compact format Nexa service workshops for non-urban areas

New Delhi, The number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that are operating in the country has gone up to 12,146 as of February 2 this year, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, <keyword id="20219727" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishan-pal-gurjar" source="keywords">Krishan Pal Gurjar</keyword>, said in a written reply in the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> on Tuesday. The data provided by the minister shows that Maharashtra leads with 3,079 EV charging stations followed by Delhi with 1,886, while Karnataka is at the third spot with 1,041 charging stations. The top three states are followed by: <keyword id="19896018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kerala" source="keywords">Kerala</keyword> (852), <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword> (643), Uttar Pradesh (582), <keyword id="19898913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan" source="keywords">Rajasthan</keyword> (500), Telangana (481), Gujarat (476) and Madhya Pradesh (341), making up the top 10 list. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has been making consistent efforts for facilitating the promotion of EVs in India. The FAME-II scheme inter-alia included financial support in the form of subsidy for setting up of public charging infrastructure to instill confidence among the EV users, the minister said. Further, the Ministry of Power has taken several initiatives to accelerate the deployment of public EV charging infrastructure in the country. The government has issued guidelines and standards for charging infrastructure, which enable the owners of EVs to charge their vehicles at their residence/office using their existing electricity connections. A revenue sharing model for provision of land at promotional rates for public charging stations has also been introduced and provision has been made for providing electricity connection to Public Charging Station (PCS) within stipulated timelines. The government has also prescribed the single part EV tariff for public charging stations, This amount cannot exceed Average Cost of Supply (ACoS) till 31.03.2025. The guidelines specify a ceiling of Rs 2.50 per unit and Rs 3.50 per unit of electricity used for slow AC charging of EVs at PCS during the solar and non-solar hours, respectively. Additionally, a ceiling limit of Rs 10 per unit and Rs 12 per unit of electricity used for DC fast charging of EVs at PCS during the solar and non-solar hours, respectively, has also been specified. Average cost of supply (ACoS) by DISCOMs to PCSs during solar hours shall have a rebate of 20 per cent and a surcharge of 20 per cent during all other times. The Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, has been notified with the objective of further accelerating renewable energy adoption, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and green energy for all, the minister added.

India has 12,146 EV charging stations, Maharashtra leads, Delhi second

New Delhi, Commercial vehicle major <keyword id="6357085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Leyland" source="Orion">Ashok Leyland</keyword> on Thursday said it has bagged an order to supply 552 buses from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC). The ultra-low entry (ULE) buses would be used for public transport, the company said in a statement. Ashok Leyland has been a long-standing supplier of buses to TNSTC, having supplied over 18,477 buses till date. "This order reinforces our dedication to creating very efficient and technologically advanced products that exceed our customer expectations and contribute to the growth of public transportation," Ashok Leyland Managing Director &amp; CEO Shenu Agarwal said. The Hinduja Group flagship said it will commence the delivery of the buses within the next few months.
