In the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu recorded 493 fresh cases. With this, the total number of active cases in the state has reached 2876 cases. Among the active Covid-19 cases reported, 137 were admitted to hospitals, two were in intensive care units (ICUs) while 51 were administered oxygen therapy. The daily Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state is 8.6. Chengalpattu and Kanniyakumari reported 12 and 11 TPR respectively while Chennai reported 10. Except for Ramanathapuram, Kallakurichi, Tenkasi and Villupuram, all other districts recorded fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours in Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the highest with 132 new cases followed by Coimbatore (43), Kanniyakumari (41), Chengalpattu (31), Tiruvallur (26) and Salem (23). Seven districts of the state reported fresh Covid-19 cases between 10 and 19 while the other districts reported in single digits. The TN health department has however said that there were no reasons to panic as the state has not witnessed any large rapidly rising clusters as was witnessed during the first three phases of Covid-19. With new enforcements in force, heavy rush that was earlier witnessed in the roads of Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy and other towns has come down. Tamil Nadu Chief secretary Rajeev Ranjan in an order said that all state government offices will function with 50 per cent staff strength for a fortnight, beginning Thursday. The order said that the secretaries to governments, head of departments, district collectors, will have an attendance schedule of the workforce. The employees must be in shifts of either on alternate days or once in three days as per the requirement of the workload. Private offices will also have to function with a 50 per cent workforce. Public transport, railways, <keyword id="45347" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Metro-rail">metro rail</keyword>, public and private buses will operate with only 50 per cent of their occupancy. Grocery shops (standalone) will be permitted to operate till 12 p.m. Grocery and vegetable shops in shopping complexes are not allowed to operate. All other shops other than grocery and vegetable shops will be closed. Shopping malls and other big shops have not been allowed to operate in the state since April 26. State government and public sector outlets will be allowed to function till 12 p.m. Restaurants will not be allowed to take sit-in customers while takeaways will be permitted from 6-10 a.m., 12-3 p.m., and from 6-9 p.m. Cinema halls will remain shut and all social, political and cultural gatherings are prohibited in open or closed spaces. "I think it is better to go for a lockdown rather than this. But the heavy financial losses is the reason for the government pulling back from the lockdown, it seems," Mukundarajan, an employee with a private company, told <keyword id="105681" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IANS">IANS</keyword>. "Anyway, people will have to cooperate on whatever measures the government adopt to contain the spread of the virus and thereby saving precious human lives," he added. Tamil Nadu government enforces new COVID-19 restrictions in the state

The industrial and commercial city of <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tamil-Nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, <keyword id="6361828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coimbatore" source="Orion">Coimbatore</keyword> is turning into the state's Covid hotspot as the positivity rate has increased to 26.6 per cent. In a statement on Monday, Coimbatore District Collector G.S. Sameeran called upon the people to strictly follow Covid appropriate behaviour to prevent the spread of the infection. Sameeran also urged those who have not taken the vaccination and irected those who are eligible for the second dose of vaccine to take the jab at the earliest. He said that vaccination facilities are available round the clock at the ESI Hospital, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, and other taluk level hospitals. The District Collector also said that Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) had witnessed a surge much before Coimbatore and now the Covid cases are coming down in GCC. The industrial areas of Coimbatore, including Sullur and Pollachi, have been temporarily closed down due to the surge in Covid-19 cases as well as the formation of clusters. Coimbatore is the business town of Tamil Nadu with several industries including machine tools, spare parts, textiles, and other industries and business establishments thrive in the city. Coimbatore turns Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 hotspot as the positivity rate surges to 26%

<keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Health Minister <keyword id="344917" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ma-subramanian" source="Orion">Ma Subramanian</keyword> inspected the mass fever camp on Friday organised in the <keyword id="6361743" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="saidapet" source="Orion">Saidapet</keyword> area in Chennai. Chennai Mayor <keyword id="3346795" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="priya-rajan" source="Orion">Priya Rajan</keyword> also joined the Health Minister in inspecting the camps. "About 1000 fever camps have been set up all over Tamil Nadu of which 200 fever camps are in Chennai," Health Minister said. Recently, H3N2 virus fever broke out across the country sparking concerns. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in a statement asked the administrations all over to comply with the safety protocols and take necessary precautions. People have been instructed to wear masks and maintain proper hygiene to avoid the virus infection. "Apart from the fever camps, about 11,333 public health centres in the state have been instructed to conduct frequent fever check-ups," said the minister in the statement. "We have adequate medicines for the fever. As of now, there are no severe cases and there is no need to panic." The Health Minister added, "According to ICMR, we have to be cautious with H3N2 virus spread like we were during the Covid Pandemic. People with fever symptoms should isolate themselves as per ICMR guidelines to prevent spread." Reportedly, corona cases have also been increasing in Tamil Nadu and also India, in general. "RTPCR tests are done and the number of tests has been increased. There were only 2 cases last month but now it's 20 to 25 cases in Tamil Nadu and we are preparing to curtail it," assured the Health Minister. Health Minister also said, "As of now it's not a community spread of H3N2 virus in Tamil Nadu. We are taking precautions to make sure it does not spread rapidly and turn into a community spread. I appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu to avoid going to public places if they identify themselves with the symptoms and immediately inform the authorities." According to the administration, the mega fever camps will continue their operations on Saturday, Sunday and also in the coming days in the state. <keyword id="12864" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword>, April 24 (IANS) With the number of Covid-infected persons increasing in the state, the <keyword id="20154" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> government has ordered closure of <keyword id="672966" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="movie-theatres">movie theatres</keyword>, auditoriums, temples for public worship and others from Monday. The government's new <keyword id="6413318" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Restrictions">restrictions</keyword> include closure of recreation clubs, movie theatres, liquor bars, auditoriums, meeting halls, shopping complexes, big format stores and vegetable shops located in malls. While, standalone vegetable and grocery shops can operate following the safety measures but such shops located in malls are not allowed to open. Besides, barbar shops, beauty parlours and spas will also remain closed. Only takeaways allowed in hotels/restaurants/mess/tea shops. For guests in hotels and lodges food should be served in their rooms, said a government statement. E-commerce service can function with time limits. All places of worships closed for public but poojas can be conducted by the staff. Only 50 persons are allowed for weddings, while 25 persons are allowed at funerals. 50 per cent staff of IT and ITES companies should work from home. Sports training centres to be closed except for training for national and international events, the statement added. Compulsory e-registration for people coming from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and from overseas by air or sea.
