Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> today announced an immediate release of Rs.1,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation works in <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, after an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas. 
 
"A sum of Rs. 1,000 crore will be released immediately by the Government of India to carry out relief works. This will be in addition to Rs.940 crore which was released earlier (by the Centre)," he said in a brief statement at the naval base "INS Adyar" here. 
 
Flanked by Governor K Rosaiah and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Modi began his brief statement with a sentence in Tamil telling people of Tamil Nadu, "I will be in support of you". 
 
Switching to English, Modi said he has seen the damage and misery caused by the monsoon fury. 
 
"People of India stay with people of Tamil Nadu in this hour of need," he said after the survey in which he was accompanied by Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, who hails from Tamil Nadu. 
 
Modi also tweeted later, "The Government of India stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Tamil Nadu in this hour of need." 
 
"I have directed that Rs. 1000 crore be released immediately by the Govt of India to Tamil Nadu for immediate relief," he said in another tweet. 
 
"I have seen the damage and misery caused by the extremely heavy rainfall," said another of his tweet. 
 
The prime minister made the announcement after holding consultations with the Chief Minister at the naval base here. 
 Earlier, Modi arrived from Delhi at the naval working station 'INS Rajali' in Arakkonam, about 60 km from here, and made an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of <keyword id="12864" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword>, its suburbs and Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts. 
 
After an earlier spell of heavy rains and damage in November, the prime minister had announced release of Rs.940 crore to Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces Rs 1,000 crore relief for flood-hit Tamil Nadu

The Met department has cautioned the residents of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tamil+Nadu+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tamil Nadu</a> that a <keyword id="6386783" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cyclone">cyclone</keyword> building up in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bay+of+Bengal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bay of Bengal</a> is expected to cross the <keyword id="394936" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tamil-Nadu-coast">Tamil Nadu coast</keyword> on Friday, December 2. Chennai also is expected to receive moderate rain from tonight and heavy rainfall has been forecast for north coastal <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> and <keyword id="6354306" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Puducherry">Puducherry</keyword> from tomorrow. 
 The cyclone, that has been named <keyword id="93921" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NADA">NADA</keyword>, is currently about 770 km south east of Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, and is further expected to move west and intensify. 
 
"Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would commence to prevail along and off the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts from December 1. Sea condition would be rough to very rough," the Met department has said. 
 
The fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts. 
 
Chief Minister of Puducherry, V Narayanasamy said that his administration is "on full alert" and well-prepared for the cyclone. He also said that shelters have been kept ready for people who may have to be evacuated from near the sea and storm water drains have been cleared to avoid flooding.

The government in the letter on Monday said that the trailer of the series which was released recently depicts the "<keyword id="1004366" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eelam">Eelam</keyword> Tamils in a highly objectionable manner". In the letter the state minister said that the Manoj Bajpai-Samantha-starrer not only hurts the sentiments of the Eelam Tamils but also the feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu. MDMK leader Vaiko had on Sunday made a similar plea to both Javedkar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Naam Tamilar Katchi leader and actor director Seeman had also called for ban on the series. Mano Thangaraj in the letter said: "Branding Tamil speaking actress Samantha as a "terrorist" in the series was directly an attack on the pride of Tamil population living around the world and no one would tolerate this kind of motivated and mischievous campaign." He also said that the series has already evoked widespread opposition from the people of Tamil Nadu as well as from the political parties in the state. The minister also said that while the Eelam Tamils were struggling for equality, justice, peace and dignity in the island nation, Amazon Prime should not have undertaken such a smear campaign against the community.
