The airport's single runway is what's known as a "tabletop runway," the sort built atop a hill, plateau, or mountain, with steep drop-offs past both ends. These leave little margin for error and severely penalize mistakes. Moreover, they can create an optical illusion for pilots, appearing to continue on and on despite giving way to the cliff.<div type="image" title="Tabletop Runway Calicut India" height="552" width="1137" msid="77424324" hostid="261"></div>The runway at Calicut, 10/28 — like all airport runways, it is named for the compass direction it faces, and can facilitate takeoffs and landings in either direction depending on winds — is 9,300 feet long, with fall-offs at both ends.While that is typically long enough to manage larger aircraft including wide-body Boeing 747 and 777 jets, the reduced margin for error, combined with poor visibility conditions, can be hazardous even for smaller planes like the 737.Friday's crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. local time, in dark conditions during heavy rain, according to Cirium, a civil aviation database. <a href="https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/vt-axh#2525ad3d">Tracking data indicated</a> that Friday's flight attempted to land once but aborted the approach at the last minute, went around for a second attempt, then crashed.A similar crash occurred at Mangalore International Airport in India — another tabletop runway — in May 2010. The UGC response was conveyed by its counsel, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on a batch of pleas that challenged the UGC schedule for final-year university exams before September 30. Mehta contended before a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan that it's not in the interest of students to not hold exams. He asked the top court for time to file a reply to Delhi and Maharashtra governments' affidavits, wherein they said they had decided to cancel the exams in state universities. The petitioners' counsel contended that the UGC guideline for holding exams are "not legally or constitutionally valid". Mehta argued that Delhi's and Maharashtra's decisions to cancel exams in their respective state universities are against the UGC rules. He argued that the UGC is the only body that can prescribe rules for conferring a degree, and the state governments cannot change the rules. The counsel for one of the petitioners replied that there is complete inconsistency in the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC guidelines. The top court adjourned the hearing till Friday, after the UGC asked for time to respond to the affidavits filed by Delhi and Maharashtra. Odisha’s common PG entrance test CPET-2020 to commence from September 30

Currently, WhatsApp works on a single device and it is not possible to use the account on multiple devices, a most requested demand from the users. According to WABetainfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp in Beta, the messaging app is working on the possibility to use the same account on different devices. "They are testing the feature in order to work with 4 devices at the same time," the report said on Sunday. WhatsApp is already working on to create an interface for Android as well as iOS. "When the user wants to use WhatsApp on a second device, there is the need to copy the chat history. In this case, WhatsApp always requires a Wi-Fi connection, because it may use a large amount of your data plan," said the report. When WhatsApp has safely copied the chat history to the second device, it will be finally possible to use your account from it. "Note that any message will be delivered to all your family devices, so your chat history will be always synced across platforms, and when you use or remove a device, your encryption key changes," said the report. When the encryption key changes during the process, all active chats will be notified. WhatsApp has also reportedly developed an iPad app that will be released after the activation of the feature, so you will be able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone and your iPad at the same time. The company used WhatsApp for Desktop for this test. It is possible that WhatsApp will allow mobile devices to be connected to your main device later than WhatsApp for Desktop, according to the report. Currently, one can simultaneously access one WhatsApp account both from a PC -- through WhatsApp Web  and a smartphone. Singapore, Apr 15 () Scientists have developed a semi-autonomous robot that can disinfect large surfaces quickly, and reduce the risk of cleaners picking up the novel coronavirus from potentially contaminated areas. The researchers from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore are planning to have public trials to support the fight against COVID-19. Named eXtreme Disinfection roBOT (XDBOT), it can be wirelessly controlled via a laptop or tablet, removing the need for cleaners to be in contact with surfaces, the researchers said. The new robot differs from other disinfection robots currently on the market that are primarily intended to clean and vacuum floor surfaces and are unable to disinfect odd-shaped surfaces or anything above ground level, they said. Comprising a semi-autonomous control unit with motorised wheels, XDBOT has a six-axis robotic arm that can mimic human movement to reach awkward locations such as under tables and beds, as well as doorknobs, tabletops and light switches. Instead of a conventional pressure-spray nozzle, it uses an electrostatic-charged nozzle to ensure a wider and further spread of the disinfectant, behind and over hidden surfaces, according to the researchers. Unlike typical nozzles, XDBOT's nozzle discharges chemicals with a positive electrical charge, they said. These disinfectants, the researchers noted, will then be attracted to all negatively-charged surfaces. Surfaces already covered with the disinfectant will then repel the spray, making this method very efficient, they explained. Professor Chen I-Ming, a roboticist at NTU, said the XDBOT was conceived when COVID19 cases started to spike worldwide in mid-February, and disinfection efforts were being stepped up at airports, hotels and hospitals. "To stop the transmission of a virus means we need a way to quickly disinfect surfaces, which is a labour-intensive and repetitive activity," Chen explained. "Using our new robot from a distance, a human operator can precisely control the disinfection process, increasing surface area cleaned by up to four times, with zero contact with surfaces," he said. XDBOT can navigate semi-autonomously in any environment using LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and high-definition cameras, while its arm is controlled by a human operator -- like a tank with a rotating turret, the researchers said. The operator can control the robot from up to 30 metres using a laptop or a tablet, which can be increased to 50m or further with more antennas installed on XDBOT, they said. The researchers said the robot possesses an 8.5 litre tank that can carry a variety of disinfectants appropriate to different environments such as childcare centres, hospitals, nursing homes and shopping malls. They said it can run for four hours continuously on a rechargeable battery pack and is estimated to be able to disinfect a surface area of up to four times that of manual cleaning. Recharging its batteries takes eight hours at present, but the researchers said this can be further improved if quick-charging technology is adopted. SARSAR

The exams began at 7.30 am and are being held in three shifts. Zubair Khan, a student of School of Open Learning (SOL), said, "I had my Hindi exam today according to the date-sheet. When I opened the portal for downloading my question paper, I found that two question papers were uploaded -- one of Hindi and another of the paper scheduled for August 13. I sent mails to the SOL but there was no response. I consulted a professor who advised me to attempt the paper scheduled for today." Another student, Deepak Gupta, said he was not sure if he could successfully upload his answer sheets before the scheduled time of 11.30 am. "It was 11.28 am by the time I finished creating PDF files (of my answer sheets). I tried to upload them but they didn't get uploaded. I have mailed them to the designated ID but do not know whether they will be accepted," he added. A student of B.Sc Physical Science, who did not wish to be identified, said that the paper was quite tough and in a situation, when classes could not happen properly, it was unjust for students. Pankaj Garg, a professor of Rajdhani College, said that the main problem that students faced was in uploading the answer sheets. "They faced problems in uploading PDF files and some of the students said that if they could upload answers to two questions, they could not upload the answers to the third. They were not sure whether their answer sheets were uploaded. The college received answer sheets on email post 11.30 am, which was the scheduled time," he said. Garg also said that teachers will face issues while evaluating answer sheets. "There is a fair possibility that there would be swapping of the pages while scanning and uploading, this would disturb the sequence.... Teachers have to be very very careful in connecting all those pages which belongs to the same question," he added. While scanning some pages may be blurred and it would be difficult to read them carefully and it would be more difficult to connect to the next page and hence the continuity of the answer would be lost, he added. For teachers, the most challenging point would be marking of pages, it seems that evaluation would take much longer, he stressed. The exams have been postponed several times. The Delhi University Teachers' Association had been demanding that the exams be scrapped and the students evaluated on the basis of previous performances and an internal assessment. <keyword id="1204125" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Delhi-High-Court">The Delhi High Court</keyword> gave its nod to the university to conduct the exams.
