Electric cars may be better for environment but there are many concerns including the feasibility for customers and the availability of infrastructure to name a few.<br /><br />The government has cut the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/gst-council-slashes-tax-on-evs-and-ev-chargers/articleshow/70407724.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">goods and services tax on electric cars</a> to less than half and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/union-budget-2019-indian-government-announces-tax-subsidy-for-purchasers-of-electric-vehicles/articleshow/70091003.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">offered tax rebates</a> on interest paid loans taken to buy electric cars, aside from setting aside <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/electric-vehicles-policy-under-fame-ii-offers-incentives-for-local-manufacturing-and-subsidies-for-buyers/articleshow/68314114.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">a ₹100 billion earlier this year</a> to incentivise electric car manufacturing in India.<br /><br />

We, however, believe the above policy measures will be unable to trigger much replacement demand and hence are unlikely to provide much of a boost to auto demand. First, the number of vehicles that are older than 15 years and still in active use is very limited. The owners of such vehicles will usually have limited financial capability to buy new or other vehicles in the secondary market (even if incentives are transferrable), and hence are less likely to go for this voluntary scrappage scheme," CLSA explained.<br /><br />Car makers have had to offer deep discounts to bring people into showrooms. These discounts are far more than the incentive available on registration renewals and yet, they have failed to revive demand for cars. India's push for electric vehicles is haemorrhaging car makers

Republicans have proposed capping the property tax, state and local income tax, and sales tax deduction to a total of $10,000. Sales tax is <a href="https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/taxes/year-end-tax-planning/">deductible</a> on a number of vehicle purchases, including motor homes, trucks, and even boats and planes.</p><h2>Vehicle registration fees are also deductible</h2><p>If you buy a car now, you could deduct vehicle registration fees paid before the end of the year, which are also likely to be axed under the new bill.</p><p>Annual car registration fees might be partially deductible on your federal income taxes, although that's only under certain circumstances. If you're planning to buy a new car, do it before Trump's tax plan goes into effect

New Delhi, Jan 26 () High GST rates, import duties and registration taxes are limiting the growth of luxury car market in India and the government must consider reducing these in the upcoming Budget, according to German luxury car maker Audi.
<p>The company, which saw 28.92 per cent decline in sales at 4,594 units in 2019 as against 6,463 units in 2018, said every major player in the luxury segment saw decline in sales last year and government support would help in overcoming the downturn.
</p><p>"Luxury car sales are impacted by high GST rates, import duties and registration taxes, which is limiting the segment to a mere 1.2 per cent of the overall car market; when compared to other global markets," Audi India head Balbir Singh Dhillon said.
</p><p>He further said, "Every major luxury car player has de-grown in volumes during 2019."
</p><p>Hence, Dhillon said, "We would urge the government/GST council to reduce GST, import duties and rationalise the vehicle registration cost on luxury cars, across the country."
</p><p>Indian luxury car market comprising top five players -- Mercedes, BMW, Audi, JLR and Volvo -- witnessed a total sales of 40,340 units in 2018 and is expected to see a decline in 2019. Some of the companies are, however, yet to release their up to date sales data.
</p><p>Luxury car market leader Mercedes Benz had reported 11.28 per cent decline in retail sales at 13,786 units in 2019 as compared to 15,538 units in 2018, while German compatriot BMW reported 13.8 per cent dip in its sales at 9,641 units in India last year as compared with 11,105 units sold in 2018.
</p><p>Dhillon further said, "Easy lending by the banks and NBFCs will help expand the market and boost the overall automotive industry."
</p><p>Stating that the government has placed a definitive emphasis on electric vehicles, he, however, said setting up of necessary charging infrastructure is key to the success of the EV-centric ecosystem.
</p>"It is also worthwhile to mention that plug-in hybrid vehicles should also be encouraged with lower GST, import duties and registration taxes. This will encourage customers to take the first step towards PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) and eventually move to electric mobility in India," he added.  RKL  MKJ

Higher taxes, other levies hurting luxury car sales; govt must address: Audi India head

<br /> The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> has lifted the ban it had imposed on the registration of large diesel-powered vehicles in Delhi and NCR, after automakers offered to pay a 1% environment protection charge on every car that gets registered in the region.<br />

The ban was imposed on the registration of passenger vehicles having engines with 2 litres and more capacity in last December, so that the rising air pollution could be controlled.<br />
<br />
"Let (the environment protection charge of) 1% come. Pollution is now under control," said an SC bench comprising Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justices AK Sikri and R Banumathi.<br />
<br />
The companies will be paying 1% charge on the vehicle's ex-showroom price, excluding local levies and insurance cost. The rate can be modified or removed later, and could also be imposed on vehicles having less than 2-litre engines.<br />

Supreme Court lifts ban on large diesel vehicles’ registration in Delhi, NCR

Europe is buying more cars but abandoning Volkswagen branded vehicles

New Delhi, Dec 19 () State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on Thursday said it has inked a pact with Baghirathi Sustainability India to promote e-mobility in private and government agencies in the country.
<p> EESL has signed a memorandum of understanding with Baghirathi Sustainability India Pvt Ltd to explore the possibilities of promoting electric vehicles (EVs) in India, according to an EESL statement.
</p><p> With this partnership, EESL seeks to deploy around 250 EVs and fast-track the adoption of e-mobility within private and government agencies across India, starting with Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
</p><p> Baghirathi Sustainability India is currently operating a fleet of around 131 EVs in India. In 2016, transportation solutions company Baghirathi Group ventured into electric cars to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
</p><p> Under EESL's EV programme, till date, a total of 1,510 electric cars have been deployed and another 500 are under registration. EESL has signed agreements with various public sector undertakings, government departments, and state governments of Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gujarat, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and others for deploying e-cars.
</p><p> EESL is also working towards strengthening the charging infrastructure. Till date, 65 public charging stations (PCSs) complying with DC-001 (15kW) have been commissioned in Delhi.
</p><p> Apart from these PCSs, EESL has installed a total of 470 captive chargers, out of which 170 are DC-001 fast chargers and 300 are AC-001 chargers.
</p> EESL has already signed the pact with various urban local bodies and other organisations for setting up public charging infrastructure across India. The aim is to set up at least 10,000 charging stations in the next 2-3 years across India.   KKS HRS

EESL inks pact with Baghirathi Sustainability India to promote EVs

<ul><li><strong>The SEC charged five people and two businesses with scamming investors out of $45 million.</strong></li><li><strong>The  investment scheme promised impossibly high returns based on the trillion-dollar sale of blockchain technology.</strong></li><li><strong>The alleged scammers used the $45 million to buy cars, real estate, and a boat.</strong></li></ul><p>Another alleged crypto scam was revealed on Wednesday when the Securities and Exchange Commission <a href="https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2023-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged a group of individuals and several businesses</a> with defrauding investors out of $45 million.</p><p>According to the SEC, CoinDeal was an investment scheme that promised tens of thousands of investors insane returns through the sale of blockchain technology that would net trillions of dollars.</p><p>Neil Chandran and others allegedly sold unregistered securities as part of the scheme, promising investors "extravagant" returns related to a unique blockchain technology called CoinDeal, which would ultimately be sold to a wealthy group of buyers for an eye-popping sum in the trillions.</p><p>From at least January 2019 to 2022, the alleged fraudsters disseminated false and misleading statements to investors about the value of CoinDeal, the supposed sale of the blockchain, and the use of investment proceeds. In reality, the alleged fraudsters used the money raised from the investment scheme to buy cars, real estate, and a boat.</p><p>"We allege the defendants falsely claimed access to valuable blockchain technology and that the imminent sale of the technology would generate investment returns of more than 500,000 times for investors," said Daniel Gregus, Director of the SEC's Chicago Regional Office. "As alleged in our complaint, in reality this was all just an elaborate scheme where the defendants enriched themselves while defrauding tens of thousands of retail investors."</p><p>In June 2022, the Department of Justice indicted Chandran on three counts of wire fraud and two counts of monetary transaction in unlawful proceeds for his involvement in CoinDeal.</p><p>Others charged in the CoinDeal scheme include Garry Davidson, Michael Glaspie, Amy Mossel, Linda Knott, AEO Publishing Inc., Banner Co-Op Inc., and BannersGo, LLC. The SEC complaint includes violations of antifraud and registration provisions of the Securities Act and Exchange act.</p><p>Chandran even went so far as to claim that the United States Department of Homeland Security was in on the supposed multi-trillion dollar deal for CoinDeal.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2023/comp-pr2023-2.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SEC complaint</a> said, "Chandran typically provided status updates on the supposed deal, including but not limited to: the involvement of foreign central banks and the United States Department of Homeland Security; the latest board meetings of the consortium of wealthy buyers; the role of certain political figures; and the causes of 'temporary' delays to the sale closing. These updates were designed to lull investors and induce them to continue investing in CoinDeal."</p><p>The payout tables used by Chandran were so ridiculous it's almost impossible to comprehend how he was able to lure tens of thousands of investors into the deal. For example, according to the SEC complaint, Chandran told prospective investors that a $100,000 investment into CoinDeal would return $56.25 billion and a Bentley GT Convertible, while on the low end of the scale, a $500 investment would generate a return of $12.5 million.</p><p>Excuses made by Chandran to CoinDeal investors for why the multi-trillion dollar deal was not closing as expected included "the engineer... called in sick yesterday." </p>

In the worst cases, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-charging-reliability-broken-stations-ev-2022-5">broken plugs</a>, slow chargers, and charging deserts can make it a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-road-trip-highlights-issues-driving-cross-country-charging-2022-6">nightmare</a>. </p><p>The <keyword id="11908406" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="biden-administration" source="Orion">Biden administration</keyword> is looking to change that. On Thursday, the White House <a href="https://highways.dot.gov/newsroom/biden-harris-administration-takes-key-step-forward-building-national-network-user-friendly">announced standards</a> aimed at making electric car charging more convenient, affordable, reliable, and ultimately more bearable. </p><p>The <a href="https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/alternative_fuel_corridors/resources/nprm_evcharging_unofficial.pdf">proposed rules</a> outline what new charging stations need to be like to qualify for a slice of the billions that the federal government is pouring into <keyword id="12000721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ev-charging" source="Orion">EV charging</keyword> infrastructure. In February, the White House announced a plan to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-electric-car-charging-stations-national-network-plan-tesla-2022-2">spend $5 billion over the next five years</a> on a nationwide charging network of 500,00 chargers.</p><p>Initially, the program will focus on shoring up charging along major highways. </p><p>Today, electric car owners rely on a patchwork of charging providers that use different interfaces, mobile apps, pricing structures, and membership systems. In a gas car, you can be reasonably assured that paying for and pumping gas will be an identical experience anywhere you go. That's not so in an electric vehicle, and it can make charging a hassle for people who don't own a car from Tesla, which has built out its own vast, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-supercharger-network-versus-other-electric-car-chargers-2020-4">proprietary charging network</a>. </p><p>The White House's new proposal aims to standardize the charging experience by making sure that federally funded stations all offer similar payment systems, charging speeds, pricing information, and functionality. The idea, according to the Department of <keyword id="11894924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation" source="Orion">Transportation</keyword>, is to ensure hassle-free charging regardless of what state a person finds themself in or what brand of electric car they drive. </p><p>Under the rules, charging stations won't be able to require a membership for use. The government also laid out standards for how charging stations should be maintained over time, potentially leading to fewer broken chargers, another persistent problem. </p><p>One of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meet-14-power-players-of-the-electric-car-charging-business-2022-3">biggest charging providers</a> in the country won't qualify for funding under the new standards: Tesla. The program aims to build out infrastructure that any EV owner can use, so Elon Musk's proprietary plugs are off the table. </p>

Gavin Newsom unveiled a new proposal on Wednesday to provide California car owners with $400 debit cards as gas prices have hit record highs in the Golden state.</p><p>"We're taking immediate action to get money directly into the pockets of Californians who are facing higher gas prices as a direct result of Putin's invasion of Ukraine," Governor Newsom said <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2022/03/23/governor-newsom-proposes-11-billion-relief-package-for-californians-facing-higher-gas-prices/">in a press release.</a> "But this package is also focused on protecting people from volatile gas prices, and advancing clean transportation – providing three months of free public transportation, fast-tracking electric vehicle incentives and charging stations, and new funding for local biking and walking projects."</p><p><a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=CA">According to AAA,</a> the average price of gas per gallon in California is $5.875 while the national average is $4.237.</p><p>Newsom said that registered car owners in the state could qualify for tax refunds in the form of $400 debit cards to use for gas. Individuals would be able to qualify for payments for up to two cars as part of the proposed $11 billion dollar investment.</p><p>The funding package will need to pass through the California state legislature, and payments could be sent as soon as July.</p><p>The proposed payments are not based on income but car registration status. In the package, Newsom also proposed funding to make transit and rail agencies free for Californians for three months.</p>

<p>The average age of all U.S. light vehicles in 2014 stands at 11.4 years-old, unchanged from 2013 but still a record high, according to Polk-IHS data.</p>
<p>IHS predicts the average vehicle age will remain at 11.4 years through 2015, and then rise to 11.7 years by 2019, <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20140609/RETAIL03/140609837/average-age-of-light-vehicle-on-u-s-roads-stayed-flat-at-11-4-in">AutoNews.com reported</a>. "<span>The slower rate of growth in the average age of a light vehicle, compared with the last five years, reflects the rebound of the auto industry and increase in new-vehicle sales," AutoNews' Nora Naughton writes.</span></p>

<p>Meanwhile, IHS-Polk also <a href="http://blog.polk.com/blog/blog-posts-by-tom-libby/land-rover-and-dodge-appeal-to-the-young-automotive-buyer">recently posted</a> data showing the average age of new car registrants, and that age for every car in the U.S. This data is slightly skewed by the fact that the registrant population skews older - when a dad buys his son a car, the son is driving it but pops is the one who went to the DMV and got the insurance - but it is nonetheless instructive.</p>

The Average Age Of US Vehicles Is At A Record High Of 11.4 Years

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">When you look up the Uber rate in your city, it looks fairly familiar. </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">There is a base rate, a charge per mile and a charge per minute. It looks like the pricing structure you know well from all the miles you have logged in cabs. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">But Uber's pricing is actually a little deceiving. Taxis charge riders per mile when moving, and per minute when idling. Uber chargers riders per mile AND minute whether they're moving or idling</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> (except in Philadelphia, where Uber charges per minute only when your speed drops below 11 MPH).</span></p>
<p>Even so, Uber rates do beat cab fares in most cities. We looked at a sample trip and calculated both costs for a number of different cities. For this analysis, we used fares from UberX, the service where drivers use their own cars. Assume the trip is 5 miles and takes 10 minutes. Also, assume there is no waiting time. The car drives 30MPH the whole way there. Table 1 shows what the fares would look like for a taxi and an Uber car in each city.</p>
<p>The column labeled "Taxi/Uber" shows the taxi fare relative to the Uber fare. If the ratio is over 1, as it is everywhere except New York and Philadelphia, that means that Uber is cheaper than a cab <span>- that</span> is, until surge pricing reaches that level. In L.A., an Uber car is cheaper for this sample trip even with surge pricing up to 1.7x.</p>
<p>It's also important to note that you don't have to tip your Uber driver. And most people do tip their taxi driver. If you add a tip of 20% to the cab fares, Uber looks like an even better deal and beats out taxis in every city we analyzed. See Table 2.</p>

<p>How do the fares change for different kinds of trips? Well, let's look at the same 5-mile route with no idling and assuming you tip your cab driver 20%. But let's change the speed of travel. Uber prices drop as speed increases, which makes sense as Uber is charging you for the miles and the driving time. If you are only going 15-20 MPH, then a taxi is cheaper in New York. But as speed increases, Uber becomes a better deal.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Now add some waiting time. This is when cabs start charging you per minute, waiting for lights to change or in stop and go traffic. Assume 5 miles and 20 MPH when you are moving. As idle time increases, the fares of both increase at a similar rate. So idling time doesn't seem to impact whether you should take a cab or an Uber car.</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>VERDICT:</strong> Factoring in a tip, if you are in New York City and there is a ton of traffic (meaning you can't go over 20 MPH), a taxi is best. Otherwise, Uber seems to be cheaper. But watch the surge levels, because 2x is more expensive than a cab in almost any city.</span></p>

New Delhi, Dec 15 () In a respite for enthusiasts and collectors of vintage cars, classic vehicles of more than 50 years of age may flash special number plates and enjoy exemption from scrappage once the regulation for these vehicles are formalised.
<p> For facilitating regulation and registration of old vintage vehicles, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has come out with a draft notification that provides for a special number plate with "VA" letters signifying vintage in the registration number.
</p><p> "...it is expedient to provide for the preservation of vintage vehicles owing to their historic, cultural, technical and aesthetic significance. In exercise with the powers conferred by...the Motor Vehicles Act...the central government on being satisfied that steps are required to encourage and regulate vintage motor vehicles being a part of technical, motoring and cultural heritage is pleased to make order of regulation for their registration or re-registration," the draft notification said.
</p><p> The regulation of vintage motor vehicles order 2019 mentions that these vehicles will display high-security registration plates bearing a registration mark consisting of the letters "XXVAYY" where VA stands for vintage, XX stands for state code and YY will be a two letter series followed by a number from 01 to 09 as allotted by the state registering authority.
</p><p> The proposed policy for which comments have been sought from the stakeholders and people will help identify and regulate vintage vehicles, exempting them from scrappage.
</p><p> The move is also aimed at helping collectors of such vehicles avoid harassments from enforcement agencies, an official said.
</p><p> The draft notification states that this special registration will allow the vehicle to be piloted on public roads under a wider variety of circumstances, excluding commercial use.
</p><p> The government had earlier made special allowance for vintage cars participating in vintage car rallies to operate without registration.
</p><p> The proposed policy also envisages that a one-time fee of Rs 20,000 will be deposited with the state transport authorities at the time of registration of such vehicles, which will be valid for 10 years and renewal.
</p><p> Earlier, there was no formal procedure or clarity of registering old vintage cars.
</p><p> The need for regulation was felt when the issue was highlighted time and again including by various federations and was discussed at the 55th meeting of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules-Technical Standing Committee (CMVR-TSC).
</p><p> The road transport ministry has sought comments from the public on the proposed draft order within 30 days.
</p><p> The draft notification says that all vintage motor vehicles shall not, however, be driven or plied on the roads for regular purposes and shall not be used for any commercial purposes.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Electreon Wireless is building a mile-long stretch in Detroit that will charge <keyword id="6358835" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="electric-cars" source="Orion">electric cars</keyword> as the drive on it.</li><li>The company said the roadway will be fully functional by 2023 for EVs that install a special receiver.</li></ul><p>A startup is building the first road in the US that will allow modified electric <keyword id="20632" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="cars" source="Orion">cars</keyword> to charge as they drive.</p><p>Electreon Wireless, a company based out of Tel Aviv, Israel, is working with Ford and DTE to bring its <keyword id="13105712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="wireless-charging" source="Orion">wireless charging</keyword> technology to Detroit next year. The company said it has already implemented its infrastructure into roadways in Sweden, Israel, and Italy. </p><p>The electrified road will stretch about a mile long and will be located near Detroit's Michigan Central Terminal, an abandoned train station that Ford is converting into its <a href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2020/11/17/ford-plans-mobility-innovation-district.html">"mobility innovation district."</a> The state of Michigan plans to contribute $1.9 million to the project which Electreon said will be fully functional by 2023.</p><p>The roadway will charge electric vehicles whether they're in motion or at a stop through a process called inductive charging, which use a magnetic frequency to transfer power from metal coils that are buried under the road to a special receiver on the underside of the EV. While the road will operate normally for all gas cars and EVs that are not equipped with the receiver, <a href="https://www.axios.com/a-roadway-will-charge-your-ev-while-youre-driving-f2f2ad5b-3735-4948-bc50-b486f076a255.html?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter_axioswhatsnext&amp;stream=science">Axios estimates</a> installing the special receiver will cost about $3,000 to $4,000 per car. Though, Electreon told the publication they hope to get the price closer to $1,000 to $1,500.</p><p>Ultimately, wireless charging could help ease range anxiety and facilitate mass EV adoption. Charging infrastructure poses a major hurdle for electric-vehicle adoption. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-owners-switching-gas-charging-a-hassle-study-2021-4">Insider's Dominick Reuter previously reported</a> that one in five EV owners has switched back to gas cars because charging represented too much of a "hassle." <a href="https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/what-is-range-anxiety-with-electric-vehicles#:~:text=Range%20anxiety%20is%20what%20an,and%20stress%20to%20a%20journey.">Data from JD Power</a> in 2021 found that anxiety related to an electric car's battery range is a primary limiting factor in the commercial viability of the vehicles.</p><p>"As we aim to lead the future of mobility and electrification by boosting electric vehicle production and lowering consumer costs, a wireless in-road charging system is the next piece to the puzzle for sustainability," Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said in a <a href="https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90640-576685--,00.html">press release.</a></p><p>Electreon is one of several companies advertising wireless <keyword id="12000721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ev-charging" source="Orion">EV charging</keyword> options. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/6-startups-leading-the-wireless-electric-car-charging-industry-2022-1">Insider's Alexa St. John</a> previously reported that the Israeli company is one of six racing to capitalize on a market that could hit $207.5 billion in the next decade.</p><p>The concept of wireless EV charging is far from new. In 1986, <a href="https://path.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/path-at-20.pdf">California tested </a>a wireless charging option with roadway powered cars for its Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) program. In recent years, wireless charging for phones has also seen a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-magsafe-wireless-charger-iphone-case-pad-duo-magnetic-2020-10">push from companies like Apple and Samsung.</a> But, overall, wireless charging <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wireless-chargers-problems-issues-whats-wrong-2019-1">efforts have fallen flat</a> as the hardware has proven expensive and often unwieldy.</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/charge-electric-car-while-driving-technology-cornell-2021-5">Insider has previously reported</a> that researchers at Cornell University have been working on making a wireless charging process for US highways that would use electric fields instead of magnetic ones — a switch that lead researcher Khurram Afridi said would make the process cheaper and provide more energy. </p>
