The NAS was connected to a gigabit network during the testing, making it a breeze to upload and download large files. The Synology DiskStation DS220+ is an entry-level NAS that comes with enough storage and power for basic users, especially at home. It was launched in September 2020 in India. Synology is a Taiwan-based company and was founded in 2000. It specialises in network-attached storage devices. I have been using the DS220+ for a few weeks now and here is my detailed review. Let’s understand NAS Before I dive into the review, let’s first understand what NAS is. As the name suggests, it is storage that is attached to the network – in this case, your local network or the internet. <div type="image" title="Network-attached storage" msid="81202628" hostid="261"></div> Connecting storage to a network allows you to remotely access it. So, for example, if your NAS is at your home and you are on a vacation, you can transfer your photos to the NAS remotely and not worry about running out of storage on your phone. This also ensures your photos and files are safe in case you lose your phone. Simply put, it is your private cloud storage, so you have complete control over it. As an added bonus, you only have to pay for it, once. However, as is the case with everything that is connected to the internet, using a NAS also carries its own risks. It is worth noting that you should set a strong password for the admin account during the setup. There are additional options in the interface to further strengthen the security, but the defaults work fine with Synology. Synology DiskStation DS220+ – price and features The Synology DiskStation DS220+ is available for purchase on Amazon.in and Flipkart at ₹32,500. It is worth noting that you will have to purchase compatible hard disks separately. The DS220+ is powered by a dual core processor and has 2GB memory, which can be expanded by another 4GB. It supports two hard disks with a maximum capacity of 32TB (2x 16TB). It has 2 gigabit ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports. Verdict The Synology DiskStation DS220+ is an excellent NAS for beginners and for basic home use. It runs quietly and efficiently, and the DSM has a plethora of features to ensure you have complete control over your data. Admittedly, if you have never used NAS, it might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once the initial setup is done, the entire process is seamless. Overall, Synology has done a good job with the DS220+, especially since it is aimed at beginners. All things considered, this NAS is worth the money. Every photo you backup or upload to Google Photos will count towards your storage limit, whether it is a compressed version or in original quality. Since its launch in 2015, Google Photos has gone from just another Google app to an important app on every Android user’s smartphone. According to the company, over 1 billion people backup more than 28 billion photos every week to Google Photos. On average, each user backs up at least 4 photos every day. That might not seem like a big number on its own, but every year, nearly 1.5 trillion photos are backed up to Google Photos. But there are hardly any services as good as Google Photos. The unlimited free backup feature was a useful incentive to draw users, but there are other reasons why billions of photos are uploaded every day to the service. Grouping and categorising photos are extremely easy on Google Photos. Google leveraged machine learning and artificial intelligence to make its photo backup service smart, and extremely user friendly. <div type="image" title="Google Photos" msid="83138214" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Google Photos&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> For instance, Google Photos automatically groups photos based on facial recognition. In most cases, the face detection and grouping is highly accurate, so you don’t have to worry about the same person being divided into different groups. Apart from this, Google Photos also has some useful categorisations like screenshots, selfies, monuments, birthdays, skylines, cooking and more. This makes it extremely easy to go look for a particular type of photo. And from time to time, Google Photos churns out some brilliant collages, animations, movies and even cinematic photos based on your backed-up photos. For instance, if all you want to do is back up your photos to the cloud, you can try Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Box.com or other cloud storage providers. Note that all of them come with storage limits, and some of them offer as low as just 2GB. In comparison, with Google, you get 15GB at a minimum. But the storage limit aside, neither of these options offer the smart features that Google Photos does. The first option is to backup your photos to your computer, or an external hard disk. While it can be done wirelessly via file sharing, remote backups are difficult. Synology NAS (network-attached storage) can be a good alternative, but the entry cost can be a little high. The upcoming DSM 7.0 update with Synology Photos is promising and comes with some basic features like grouping photos based on people, places and tags. But the more advanced features found in Google Photos are not there yet. It’s still worth checking out, though. According to TechCrunch, the entrepreneur has shown off a prototype of the device in meetings with several key executives from the industry at this week's Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona, as per a source close to the company. Business Insider had earlier <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/carl-pei-hints-at-a-possible-nothing-android-smartphone-with-a-snapdragon-chip/articleshow/89608116.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">reported</a> that Carl <keyword id="2183220" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pei" source="Orion">Pei</keyword> had hinted at a new Qualcomm-powered smartphone. TechCrunch has viewed a photo of one such meeting Pei had with Qualcomm's chief executive. Details around the forthcoming device are thin, though the source notes that the product will share a similar design language and "elements of transparency" seen in Nothing's first product. Released in 2021, the earbuds have shipped 400,000 units as of late January, according to the London-based hardware startup. In an interview with TechCrunch last July, Pei noted that the company had several different devices on its roadmap, prior to teasing out the earbuds. "We have a lot of products in the pipeline. Earlier this year, we did a community crowdfunding round where we allocated $1.5 million to our community," Pei was quoted as saying by the website.
