He also said that next week, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister <keyword id="545729" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sarbananda-sonowal" source="Orion">Sarbananda Sonowal</keyword> will launch 'Green Port' guidelines to make India's ports green. "Our major ports have handled the highest ever cargo in the history of the ports at 795 million metric tonne. This is 10 per cent higher than the previous year's cargo handled," he told PTI. India has 12 major ports - Deendayal (Kandla), Mumbai, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore (<keyword id="426494" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kamarajar" source="Orion">Kamarajar</keyword>), Tuticorin (V O Chidambaranar), Visakhapatnam, <keyword id="49809" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paradip" source="Orion">Paradip</keyword> and <keyword id="6354925" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kolkata" source="Orion">Kolkata</keyword> (including Haldia) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port. "Four or five of the major ports, including <keyword id="9340309" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="syama-prasad-mookerjee-port" source="Orion">Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port</keyword> (Kolkata), Deendayal (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Paradip have recorded the highest ever cargo," Pant added. He also pointed out that after many many years, the major ports have recorded a higher annual growth than that of non-major ports. Non-major ports are administered by state governments. Many state governments have given such ports on lease to private partners. "So, this year (2022-23), major ports achieved an overall growth of 10.4 per cent, while non-major ports achieved a growth 1.5 to 2 per cent less than this," he said. While the share of major ports in the total cargo was 54 per cent and non-major ports was 46 per cent in FY22, Pant said in FY23, the share of major ports rose to 55 per cent and that of non-major ports fell to 45 per cent. "So even 1 per cent shift is a very significant achievement for major ports, because despite so many challenges, they have increased their share by 1 per cent ," he said. Pant also said the inland waterways increased their cargo handling by 16 per cent to 126 million tonne in 2022-23 from 109 million tonne in 2021-22. He said the turnaround time in major ports has reduced by 3-4 hours to 48-49 hours. India's major ports handled highest ever cargo at 795 million tonne in FY23

The <keyword id="20417468" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="department-of-drinking-water-and-sanitation" source="keywords">Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation</keyword> has received a budgetary allocation of Rs 77,390.68 crores for the fiscal year 2024-2025. This figure reflects a minimal increase of only 0.5 per cent from the revised estimate of Rs 77,032.65 crore announced in budget 2023-2024. A substantial portion of this financial year's allotment for the <keyword id="22519676" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drinking-water-and-sanitation" source="keywords">Drinking Water and Sanitation</keyword> department is directed towards the <keyword id="19971121" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jal-jeevan-mission" source="keywords">Jal Jeevan Mission</keyword> (JJM), which received Rs 69,926.65 crore, a marginal rise from the revised estimate of Rs 69,846.31 crore in 2023-2024. This flagship programme aims to provide functional household tap connections to every rural household by 2024, focusing on ensuring regular and adequate <keyword id="19939560" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="water-supply" source="keywords">water supply</keyword>. Additionally, the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee National Institute of Water and Sanitation (SPM-NIWAS) has been allocated Rs 95 crore, a huge rise from the Rs 3 crore it got in the last revised estimate. The <keyword id="20200832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swachh-bharat-mission" source="keywords">Swachh Bharat Mission</keyword> (Gramin), which focuses on maintaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and enhancing waste management in rural areas, has been allocated Rs 7,192 crore. This allocation remains consistent with the budget for the previous fiscal year and continues to support <keyword id="22519675" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanitation-efforts" source="keywords">sanitation efforts</keyword> nationwide. The budget also includes significant funding for water supply and sanitation at Rs 64,302.85 crore, an increase from the previous year's Rs 64,138.41 crore. For economic services, the budget includes Rs 35.78 crore for the Secretariat and capital outlay on general economic services. This is an increase from Rs 32.65 crore in the revised budget, indicating a focus on enhancing administrative and infrastructural capacities. Additional allocations include Rs 7,632.19 crore for Northeast India, aimed at improving water and sanitation facilities in these regions. Grants-in-aid to state governments have been set at Rs 5,169.86 crore, while grants to Union Territories are allocated at Rs 250 crore.

Budget 2024-25: Drinking water and sanitation dept gets a mere 0.5% boost

New Delhi, Nov 21 () State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has said that the number of customers moving into its network is higher than those leaving it, making its mobile number portability (MNP) positive during 2019-20 so far, Parliament was informed on Thursday.
 The number of port-ins stood at 53.64 lakh, against 28.27 lakh port outs in 2018-19, and thereafter the numbers cumulative up to October 2019 was 2.04 crore (port-ins) against 1.80 crore (port-outs).
 "BSNL has informed that number of customers ported in to BSNL is higher than the ported-out customer of BSNL. BSNL's MNP is positive during 2019-20 (till October, 2019)," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
 The number of mobile connections of BSNL stood at 11.64 crore as on August 31.
 In a separate reply, the minister said that with the Cabinet approving the revival plan for BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) last month, it is expected that both the companies will turn around in future.
 To another question on whether the government has any plan of going for any disinvestment of these telecom companies in near future, the minister said, "At present, there is no proposal for disinvestment of BSNL and MTNL."
 The Cabinet on October 23 had approved the revival plan for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) which includes in-principle approval for merger of both the companies.
 Since MTNL is operating in metros of Delhi and Mumbai and BSNL operates in the rest of India, it is expected that the merger will help in pan-India footprint and synergy in operations.
 The revival plan approved by the Cabinet also includes measures to reduce staff cost through a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for employees of age 50 years and above, administrative allotment of spectrum for 4G services, debt restructuring by raising of sovereign guarantee bonds and monetisation of their assets.
 The telecom corporation has also decided to implement various austerity measures which include reducing expenditure for different outsourcing works, in view of its poor financial position.
 "However, due to severe financial constraints, delay in payment to contractors by BSNL/MTNL has occurred in recent months. All efforts are being made by BSNL and MTNL to overcome the situation to meet the immediate necessary expenditure including payment of bills of contractors for making payment of wages/arrears to contract casual workers," Prasad said in another reply.

The forest is also home to leopards, Indian fox, sloth bear, wolves, wild boars, hyenas, jackals, macaques, langurs and Indian wild dogs (dhole). The Indian roller, owlets, scarlet minivet, Indian pitta and black hooded oriole are some of the birds that call the forest home. The River Banjaar runs through Kanha and is the key source of water for flora and fauna here. The Park was originally inhabited by two indigenous tribes — the Gonds and the Baigas — thus, it was called the Gondwanas (“land of the Gonds''). However, the morning safaris usually reap the most amount of sightings. “The safari experience itself is one of the best since you get an exclusive Gypsy (a vehicle) along with a local guide and driver who have a keen sense of ownership and provide visitors with an intimate glimpse into the lives of the Park’s wild denizens. These island nations could be underwater in as little as fifty years

Now, no more worrying about recharging with free <keyword id="6515745" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="roaming">roaming</keyword> packs before leaving for a long journey. State-owned <keyword id="30351" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BSNL">BSNL</keyword> brings good news for its subscribers with its plan to offer <keyword id="2880548" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="free-incoming">free incoming</keyword> calls on roaming from June 15, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today. 

	"BSNL will start offering free national roaming from June 15. It's already on the recovery path," Prasad said at a press meet marking one year of the Modi government. 
 The announcement comes ahead of full mobile number portability (<keyword id="108664" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="MNP">MNP</keyword>), which will be effective July this year. BSNL has a mobile subscriber base of 7.72 crore at the end of March. 

	"Although there could be slight reduction in revenue on account of free incoming calls during roaming, we expect to gain first mover advantage and anticipate offsetting this amount by arresting churnout/porting out and acquiring new customers," BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava said at the press meet. 
 However, free incoming calls will be offered for one year. The Minister added that in 2004, BSNL made profits of Rs 10,000 crore, and its loss stood at Rs 7,500 crore in 2014 when the Modi government took over. <keyword id="28256" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="MTNL">MTNL</keyword>, he said, was in profit zone till 2008, but is now facing losses. 

	MTNL offers services in Delhi and Mumbai while BSNL takes care of the rest of the country. 
 

	Prasad added that the government is taking all possible steps to revive these two state-owned entities. 
 

	The efforts are bearing fruit, he said, adding BSNL's revenue went up 2.1 per cent in 2014-15 and active subscribers rose 47 lakhs, thus reversing the negative trend of previous years. 
 

	Under phase VII of BSNL, 15,000 new base tower stations were commissioned in one year which have reduced call drops and eased congestion. 
 

	"MTNL added 2.11 lakh subscribers in 2014-15, arresting the negative trend of previous years, and will add 1,680 tower sites in Delhi and Mumbai each," he said. 
 

	However, he did not say anything specific about talks of merger of the two.

BSNL to offer free incoming calls on roaming from June 15

<ul><li>Infosys announced that it will consider buyback of equity shares during its board meeting set to take place tomorrow, on April 14.</li><li>Analysts estimate that shares may be bought up at ₹1,600 to ₹1,650 a piece.</li><li>According to them, the buyback is not because the management feels that Infosys’ shares are undervalued but because it is as per the company’s payout policy.</li><li>Infosys has thus far given out around 50% in dividend as what is left over will be spent on this buyback.</li></ul>Indian information technology (IT) giant, Infosys, may announce a buyback of equity shares after its board meeting scheduled for April 14. And, analysts estimate that the shares will be picked up between ₹1,600 to ₹1,650 a piece. That's a 14% premium on the closing price of Infosys on April 13. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[<div class="flourish-embed flourish-chart" data-src="visualisation/5841634"></div>]]></cdata></div> “If you see, Infosys usually spends 85% of its free cash flow five year’s average. A process in which the promoters participate too. It is normally done at a price higher than what is prevailing in the market. Analysts estimate that Infosys will offer between 10% to 15% premium. Companies normally offer a buyback of shares to stem a fall in share prices, as many did after the pandemic rocked markets in March last year. However, since the government announced that dividends will be taxable as per the effective rates rates for corporate shareholders — more commonly known as promoters — in July 2020, some companies have opted for the buyback route to save tax. “Dividends are not the most efficient method of payouts for a certain set of investors because of the much higher slab rates,” explained Prasad. It’s common practice for leading companies to have a regular buyback strategy in place. “What happens is that if you don’t give the buyback, there’s a lot more cash which is not yielding high returns,” Prasad explained. Infosys is not alone in the balancing act of paying out dividends and offering buybacks. Most IT companies do a little bit of both depending on their shareholder profile. “It’s a tender route where the promoters also end up participating,” said Prasad. TCS, for instance, returned $4.17 billion of cash to shareholders through buybacks and dividends this year. The note issued by Jefferies observes that Krishnapatnam Port’s margins rose to 68% in the first six months of the financial year 2020-21. “Adani Ports showcased the management focus to improve Krishnapatnam Port’s (KPTL) margins from the current 68 percent to 80 percent by FY25E. Adani Ports is making 68% margin from one of its ports – the stock has doubled since lockdown

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], November 9 (ANI): AdPorts and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has reported robust financial results for the second quarter and the first half ending September 30, 2023, showcasing remarkable growth across key metrics. According to a press release by Adani, APSEZ witnessed a substantial YoY revenue growth of 26 per cent, reaching Rs 12,894 Crores during H1 FY24. The company's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) recorded an impressive YoY growth of 49 per cent, amounting to Rs 7,429 Crores. Profit After Tax (PAT) increased by 33 per cent YoY, reaching Rs 3,881 Crores. The port EBITDA margin expanded by 220 basis points (bps) YoY to 72 per cent in H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved record cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24 across its 8 ports and terminals. Mundra Port, the flagship port, celebrated 25 years of successful operations, handling over 16 MMT of cargo in a month and achieving the 4 Mn TEUs milestone in just 203 days. APSEZ expanded its logistics business, adding 11 rakes, Loni ICD, and warehouses at Mumbai and Indore during H1 FY24. Karan Adani, CEO and Whole Time Director of APSEZ expressed satisfaction with the company's outstanding performance, citing a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume and improved operational efficiencies contributing to the 72 per cent domestic ports EBITDA during H1 FY24. Adani said, "APSEZ achieved another milestone by registering its highest ever half-yearly revenue of Rs 12,894 Crore, EBITDA of Rs 7,429 Crore and cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24. The splendid performance was on the back of a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume coupled with improving operational efficiencies at our ports, which has resulted in our domestic ports EBITDA improving by 220bps YoY to 72 per cent during H1 FY24." APSEZ's under-construction port in Sri Lanka secured a funding commitment of USD 553 million from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The logistics business recorded significant growth, with rail volumes up 25 per cent YoY and GPWIS volumes up 42 per cent YoY during H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved an emission intensity reduction of 48 per cent and a water intensity reduction of 58 per cent from the base year (FY2016) as of H1 FY24. The company completed a mangrove plantation of 4,200 Ha against its 2025 target of 5,000 Ha. S&amp;P (DJSI) provided APSEZ with a score of 65 (out of 100), ranking it in the top 4 per cent globally in the Transport and Transport infrastructure sector in its 2023 ESG assessment.
