HDFC Bank and Swiggy launch co-branded credit card – cashback, offers and more

New Delhi, Two men were arrested for allegedly duping people by hacking food and grocery delivery app <keyword id="19896956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swiggy" source="keywords">Swiggy</keyword> account, a Delhi Police official said on Monday. The accused were identified as <keyword id="20480275" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aniket" source="keywords">Aniket</keyword> Kalra (25), and Himanshu Kumar (23), both residents of <keyword id="19921445" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurugram" source="keywords">Gurugram</keyword>, Haryana. According to police, the duo was using 'Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to hack Swiggy accounts of the victims. The official said that after hacking the account, the accused used to place orders from the victims account and then used to sell the grocery products at a lower price. Their arrest came after a woman complainant, a resident of Sultanpur was cheated of Rs 97,197 by some unknown persons from her Lazy Pay account linked with Swiggy account. During the investigation, technical analysis of call details and money transaction was made and it was found that complainant received a call in late night hours from an Automated Telephony Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System and she was told in Pre-Recorded Voice Responses that somebody is trying to access her Swiggy account. Thereafter, her Swiggy account was hacked and online orders of Rs 97,197 were placed using her Lazypay account linked with Swiggy. "Further, CDR analysis of the calling number revealed that the mobile number from which the complainant received the call is an application based generated number connected with IVR System. Simultaneously, details from Swiggy were obtained and it came to notice that the alleged orders were delivered in Gurugram," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ankit Chauhan. The mobile number used for delivering the products was found registered on fake ownership. "The team worked on all the available aspects of the case. The efforts of the team bore fruits when during IMEI search, the location of suspect was zeroed in Sector 7, Gurugram, Haryana," said the <keyword id="19916219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dcp" source="keywords">DCP</keyword>. Raids were conducted and Aniket and Himanshu were apprehended. On interrogation, Aniket disclosed that he used to work as a delivery boy in Zomato and Swiggy. "Thereafter, he started buying grocery items from online selling platform at lower price through offers and then used to sell them in the market, thus saving 5 per cent-10 per cent on every order. Further, he along with co-accused <keyword id="20646636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ansh" source="keywords">Ansh</keyword>, a resident of Punjab met on telegram and they both started duping people through IVR Calling system," said the DCP. Ansh has the data of people who have linked their credit card/debit card/internet banking with their Swiggy account. "Ansh used to target victims by hacking their Swiggy account through pre-recorded voice responses and thereby accessing confidential data of victims. Then Aniket used to link a phone number registered on fake ownership with the Swiggy account of the victim and then used to place orders of Grocery items for as much amount as available in the account of the victim," said the DCP. The random addresses of Gurugram were provided for delivery of items to avoid any police action. "Aniket and his friend Himanshu used to sell the grocery items in the local market at discounted price and then used to send 50 per cent profit to Ansh via cash depositing machines or various UPI Id's," said the DCP. Himanshu owns a medical shop in Gurugram and under the guise of a medical shop he was involved in transferring the cheated amounts to various UPI IDs and accounts. "Further investigation of the case is in progress to trace the co-accused and to link other cases," the DCP added.

Juspay has <a href="https://juspayproducts.medium.com/your-security-is-our-first-concern-8d98c96e5f17">confirmed</a> the data leak in its official blog post, outlining the details of the breach. “It pains us to inform you that a data breach did happen on 18th August 2020. Non-sensitive masked card information, mobile numbers and email ids of a subset of our users were compromised,” the company said. Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia discovered the data breach. He found that the data dump was available for sale on the dark web. Speaking to Business Insider, Rajaharia noted that this data breach could be a lot more serious if the hackers figure out the encryption algorithm used to hash card numbers. A hash is a unique and fixed-length string that is mapped to a set of data. In this case, Juspay has hashed the 16-digit debit and credit card numbers in order to process transactions. If hackers can figure out the algorithm used to generate these hashes, they could use brute force and find out what the original card numbers are. Juspay has masked only six digits out of sixteen-digit card numbers. Rajaharia says that while this is good, the safety of users rests primarily on the hashing algorithm. Since the leak includes mobile numbers, they could call unsuspecting cardholders and trick them into revealing the full card numbers, PIN, CVV as well as one-time passwords. But what if we were to tell you that if an existing provision of the Income Tax Act is clarified and amended, it could raise salaries for the gig workers. Under Section 80JJAA provision of the Indian Income Tax Act, companies can get a tax deduction for hiring new people. If a company’s workforce increased by 50, the salary paid to these employees would make the company eligible for an additional deduction of 30% for the next three financial years, Hemal Zobalia, Partner at Deloitte Haskins &amp; Sells LLP explains. For example, if the company is paying ₹1000 annually to each of these 50 employees, it will get ₹300 as tax deduction for each of them for each of the next three years. Essentially, 90% of the first year’s salary, for each of the new employees, will be deducted from the company’s taxable profit. The goal of this provision is to create more permanent employment for those who are “low-skilled”, according to Jimit Devani, a partner at Deloitte Haskins &amp; Sells. The provision is applicable for employees whose salaries are ₹25,000 per month or less.Increasing the salary limit to ₹35,000-₹40,000 may push more companies to hire permanent employees instead of contractual ones. Meanwhile, Zobalia is of the belief that this would also help in further increasing their payout and salaries. But there is a bigger challenge here. This is not a widely availed incentive by the companies for several reasons. First, companies prefer to hire people on contract and keep them on a third party’s payroll. Such companies cannot avail tax benefit under the 88JJAA provision. Bringing people on to the payroll makes them eligible for other benefits like pension, insurance, and severance to name a few, Devani said. The third parties, however, do avail these tax benefits for employees that have been on their payroll for at least eight months, Devani added. The second issue with this provision is that the benefit is available only on the net addition of employees. Say, a company has a total of 10 employees. Five of them quit the company in a year, and six more are hired in the same year. While the company has six new employees, the net addition to the workforce is only one. And, so, the tax rebate is available only for one additional employee, and not all six. Improving this provision under the income tax law may go a long way in creating sustainable employment for people with less-valued skills, across a range of industries including the gig economy of which the likes of Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon and Flipkart are part of. As part of the campaign, Swiggy dropped in Santa’s flyers and business cards with a special QR Code with their Genie and Instamart orders.
