According to a report on the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/uber-eats-india-likely-to-end-up-on-swiggys-plate/articleshow/68105369.cms">Economic Times</a>, the deal is in its final stages of negotiation and is expected to close by next month. The report further mentions that the deal could be a share swap, where Swiggy in exchange for taking over Ubereats will give the ride hailing company Uber a 10% stake. Earlier <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/ubereats-on-sale-swiggy-zomato-competing-acquire-food-delivery-app-report/story/321164.html">reports</a> also suggested that Zomato and Swiggy both were looking at acquiring Ubereats India operations. Both the companies together hold 80% of the online food delivery space in India. With Swiggy reportedly leading the race for acquisition now, the deal would give the company a better stand to take on rival Zomato. Ubereats launched in India in 2016 and has grown considerably over time. Jason Droege, global head of Ubereats told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/india-fastest-growing-market-for-ubereats/articleshow/66384076.cms">ET </a>that its India wing has grown seven fold in order volume in the past six months in India, while adding over 4,500 delivery partners each week. Swiggy became one of India’s fastest unicorn in June last year, getting the prime status in just four years of operations. In December 2018, the food delivery startup further raked up a whopping <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/with-1-b-new-money-and-3-3-b-valuation-swiggy-turns-swaggy/articleshow/67186809.cms">$1 billion</a> in funding, taking up its valuation to $3.3 billion. “With this funding, we will further invest in building differentiated offerings, plugging the white spaces in the ecosystem, and developing our technology while keeping superlative customer experience at the core," said Sriharsha Majety, CEO, Swiggy had then <a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/308736">said</a>. The startup is also expanding its <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/not-only-food-swiggy-will-also-delivery-groceries-medicines-vegetables-at-your-doorstep/story/318547.html">offering</a>, as it announced earlier in February, that it will soon start delivery of groceries, medicines and more. It has also been on an acquisition spree – it <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/AOxcPY6Gu57vSsOLz5whiM/Swiggy-acquires-ondemand-delivery-platform-Scootsy.html">acquired</a> on demand delivery platform Scootsy to leverage the Scootsy’s existent network of restaurants and grow its consumer base. It had also acqui-hired the gourmet Asian food startup 48east. Swiggy wants more on its plate, in talks to acquire Ubereats India

New Delhi, Jul 6 () Food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy on Monday said the company has integrated premium on-demand delivery platform, Scootsy, and its restaurant partners with the Swiggy platform. Through the curated selection on the company's homepage, users in Mumbai can now access premium gourmet experiences delivered by its premium fleet of independent pick-up and delivery partners, Swiggy said in a statement. Swiggy acquired Scootsy in 2018 for around Rs 50 crore and had said at that time that the Mumbai-based firm will continue to operate as an independent app after the acquisition. This integration allows Swiggy to build on Scootsy's premium value proposition, its understanding of the niche consumer segment and existing capabilities in curating and delivering premium service offerings, the statement said. "Since the acquisition of Scootsy in 2018, we have been closely observing the premium category and grasping the underpinnings of creating delightful experiences for discerning customers. This, clubbed with the upshift in consumer interest in premium offerings, made for the perfect timing to integrate Scootsy with Swiggy," Swiggy Chief Operating Officer Vivek Sunder said. By leveraging synergies of both platforms, "we are able to home-deliver premium services to a much wider customer base in Mumbai," he added. Swiggy integrates Scootsy to deliver premium culinary offerings in Mumbai

New Delhi, Jun 8 () Food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy on Monday said it plans to transition the services offered by its premium on-demand delivery platform Scootsy in Mumbai to the company's platforms in the near future. Swiggy had acquired Scootsy in 2018 for around Rs 50 crore and said at that time that the Mumbai-based firm will continue to operate as an independent app post the acquisition. "To expand our footprint to all discerning customers across Mumbai, we will be transitioning the services offered by Scootsy to Swiggy's platforms in the near future. This will be the first major milestone in setting up the premium category for Swiggy," a Swiggy spokesperson said in a statement. In line with this, all Scootsy customers will be redirected to a curated selection on the Swiggy app where they can experience the same level of service along with the widest choice of cuisines and restaurants supported by Swiggy's delivery, it added. During the past few months, Swiggy has witnessed a surge in demand for curated food choices from premium brands, the statement said. "Through our partnerships with ITC Hotels, Marriott, Hyatt, KA Hospitality and the likes, we intend to further elevate our premium selection and category experience for consumers on Swiggy," it added. Swiggy to transition Scootsy's operations to its platforms

Online food delivery platform <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword>'s losses doubled to ₹3,629 crore in FY22 compared to ₹1,617 crore in the last fiscal year. Total expenses went up 131% to ₹9,574.5 crore in FY22. According to its annual financial statement with the Registrar of Companies (RoC), during the last quarter of FY22, Swiggy turned "decacorn" (with a valuation of $10 billion and above) after raising a $700 million round led by Invesco. Meanwhile, Swiggy's revenue grew 2.2 times to ₹5,705 crore during FY22 as opposed to ₹2,547 crore in FY21. According to Entrackr, outsourcing support costs accounted for 24.5% of the total expenses of the company. This particular cost increased 2.3 times to ₹2,350 crore in FY22 from ₹1,031 crore in FY21. Its advertising and promotional expenses surged 4 times to reach ₹1,848.7 crore during FY22, according to the report. Reports surfaced last month that Swiggy may lay off more than 250 employees or up to 5% of its workforce starting January. "There have been no layoffs at Swiggy. We concluded our performance cycle in October and have announced ratings and promotions at all levels. As with every cycle, we expect exits based on performance," a Swiggy spokesperson had said in a statement. The upcoming layoffs are likely to impact Swiggy's quick commerce delivery service <keyword id="9728281" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="instamart" source="Orion">Instamart</keyword> to reduce cash burn. Zomato in the same period logged a gross order volume of $1.6 billion. In May last year, Swiggy acquired Dineout, a dining-out and restaurant tech platform, for an undisclosed sum. According to sources, the acquisition size was around $200 million. Earlier this year, the food delivery platform raised $700 million led by Invesco at a $10.7 billion valuation. The other reason is the “high conviction buy” recommendation by a research firm, putting focus on an already-battered stock. Zomato has been unable to keep any of the parties it serves happy – customer complaints are unending, its restaurant partners have <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/business/companies/ban-after-complaints-amid-pushback-by-restaurants-zomato-defers-quality-policy-7872695/">raised concerns</a> several times, its delivery executives are <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/zomato-delivery-agents-go-on-strike/article65217978.ece">unhappy</a> over incentives being cut down, the government is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/zomato-shares-dip-after-ccis-probe-order/articleshow/90656032.cms">wondering</a> if Zomato’s business practices are anti-competitive, and lastly, shareholders have seen their investment value fall faster than the escape velocity of Jupiter. And the one equity research firm which stood behind the company was also trolled. Keeping those issues aside, Zomato has also been called out by its customers over prices – food prices on Zomato are often higher than the actual prices in those food outlets. It’s a problem which no one seems to be keen on solving – not Zomato and not the restaurants either. The reason for the sometimes-massive difference in prices is easy to understand – Zomato charges 24-28% of the order value as a commission from restaurants, who understandably pass on the cost to customers. Essentially, you are paying a much higher price for dining in than dining out. In some cases, the prices could be as much as 35% higher. And it’s not a problem restricted only to Zomato – even Swiggy users have similar complaints. Sample this – I wanted to order everyone’s favorite, fried rice, the other day. I went over to Zomato since I have a membership, but the service did not have any delivery partners to assign to that eatery. Naturally, I switched to Swiggy and tried to place the order, but backed out because the final price was 75% higher than what I would have to pay at the eatery myself. I thought to myself that I would much rather pay the additional cost to the eatery instead of having Swiggy take it away. However, things like <keyword id="3947714" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delivery-Charges" source="Orion">delivery charges</keyword> and surge pricing are under the company’s control. And the reason restaurants charge higher on Zomato is because of its commissions, nothing else. This is a cash burning business – and analysts think Zomato has no other option Zomato’s ballooning losses could continue to be its Achilles' heel for the foreseeable future. This is a cash burning business, and analysts think Zomato has no other option but to continue doing this. Zomato’s ₹4,400 crore acquisition of Blinkit has drawn flak for different reasons – from it being an expensive purchase to being a cash sink, the overall outlook has been negative. However, analysts at HSBC Global Research suggest this is a necessary evil for the company if it wants to remain competitive with Swiggy. To jog your memory, Blinkit is a grocery delivery service, rivaling the likes of Big Basket, JioMart, Swiggy Instamart among others. Analysts at HSBC believe Zomato needs to now integrate Blinkit into the Zomato app if it wants to realize the synergy gains from this acquisition. Not only would this help Zomato users, it would also help the company increase user stickiness and reduce customer acquisition costs for both Zomato and Blinkit. On the outset, this logic looks sound – after all, acquisitions are made for synergy gains. But the analysts at Jefferies believe this could likely be a cash guzzler – something that Zomato investors might not like, yet. Bansal’s firm BACQ has invested venture debt worth ₹200 million into Milkbasket – a grocery delivery startup. Bansal, through BACQ, had earlier made an investment in digital lending platform Krazybee and a personal investment in Ola technologies. Venture debt is a type of debt financing given to early stage companies. "Milkbasket is now working on the next set of innovations to further consolidate its market leader position across it’s fresh (fruit &amp; vegetables) offering, automating the daily delivery supply chain and reducing go to market time for multi-city expansion. These funds would provide us the needed CAPEX and R&amp;D investments in all the three domains.” Anant Goel, co-founder and CEO, Milkbasket added. In March 2019, Milkbasket had acquired one-year-old startup Veggie India for an undisclosed amount. With the acquisition, the founders of the Noida-based Veggie India Jainendra Upadhyay and Shailendra Upadhyay as well as all of their employees had joined Milkbasket. The Gurugram-based startup Milkbasket had earlier raised about $16 million from Mayfield Advisors, Beenext, Kalaari Capital, Unilever Ventures, Lenovo and Blume Ventures at a <a href="https://www.vccircle.com/mayfield-leads-milkbasket-s-extended-series-a-round/">reported</a> valuation of $30 million. According to CRISIL, the online retail market in India is expected to grow 250% to touch ₹1.8 trillion by 2020 fiscal. The Indian grocery market has become a hot sector with bigwigs joining in the race. Milkbasket, which earlier focussed on delivery of milk and dairy products, had expanded its business to begin grocery delivery. Foodtech unicorn Swiggy too had announced its entry in the segment with Swiggy stores.
