The course will be available online from 29 July. Launched by the Indian government, Swayam provides open online courses with teaching and learning resources to its citizens. “ISRO will go ‘back to the moon’ today. Learn Aerospace Engineering with Swayam, who knows, if you are a part of the journey the next time,” the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry said in a tweet.

 The portal will have six courses that provide knowledge on designing, manufacturing and maintenance of spacecraft, aircraft, missiles in aerospace engineering. Indian <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> will also offer several courses to enhance the learning in the domain. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will conduct a three month long ‘Aircraft stability and control’ course and ‘Design of fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicles’ course for two months, under the initiative. It will also conduct ‘Introduction to rocket propulsion’ course for three months. In the aerospace domain, IIT Bombay will also launch a three month long course on ‘Introduction to aerospace engineering/flight’ imparting the basics of aerospace engineering. ‘Vibration and structural dynamics’ course will be conducted by IIT Kharagpur. The demand for Aerospace engineers has been on the rise, globally. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the sector will create jobs at a rate of 6% by 2026. Indian government launches online aerospace engineering course for those who aspire to reach the moon

New Delhi, Apr 9 () The HRD Ministry's online learning platforms have been accessed five times more during the COVID-19 lockdown period, officials said on Thursday."The various e-learning platforms of the HRD Ministry have seen an unprecedented combined access of over 1.4 crore since March 23," a senior HRD Ministry official said.The National Online Education Platform SWAYAM has been accessed nearly 2.5 lakh times till Wednesday, which is about a five times increase over the figure of 50,000 strikes in the last week of March, he added. "This is in addition to about 26 lakh learners already enrolled in 574 courses available on the SWAYAM platform. Likewise, nearly 59,000 people are viewing the videos of the SWAYAM Prabha DTH TV channels every day, and more than 6.8 lakh people have watched these since the lockdown began," the official said.Similarly, the National Digital Library has been accessed about 1,60,804 times in just one day on Wednesday, and about 14,51,886 times during the lockdown period, as against about 22,000 daily strikes earlier. "The Education portals of NCERT like DIKSHA, e-pathshala, National Repository of Open Educational Resources, Senior Secondary Courses of NIOS, NPTEL, NEAT, AICTE Student-College helpline web portal, AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL), IGNOU Courses, UGC MOOCS courses, Shodhganga, ShodhShuddhi, VIDWAN, e-PG Pathshala."Other ICT initiatives like Robotics education (e-Yantra), Open Source Software for Education (FOSSEE), Virtual experiments (Virtual Labs) and Learning programming (Spoken tutorial) are also experiencing very large access rates," the official said.The country is under a 21-day lockdown since March 25 due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, schools and colleges were closed at least a week before the restrictions were announced in the national capital. According to the Union Health Ministry, the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 166 on Thursday and the number of cases stood at 5,734 in the country.While the number of active COVID-19 cases is 5,095, a total of 472 people have been cured and discharged and one has migrated, the ministry said. COVID-19: HRD Ministry's e-learning platforms being accessed five times more during lockdown

Lucknow, Apr 17 () Uttar Pradesh's Higher Education department has made elaborate efforts in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown to help students studying in different state universities and colleges in availing benefits of online learning. During the lockdown period, 65,943 e-contents have been prepared by the teachers of various state universities and colleges across the state. All of the new e-contents are available on the respective university/college websites, which are being continuously accessed by the students to complete their course curriculum, a government spokesman said. In addition to material on pdf format, the contents are also available in the form of PowerPoint presentations and audio-video recordings. All the newly-produced contents are being monitored by the vice chancellors of the respective universities, he said. Apart from this, 2,23,930 online classes of different subjects have been conducted by 10,087 teachers of various state universities and colleges across the state during the lockdown period. These classes are being attended by an average of 1,44,431 students per day, he added. During the lockdown, 4,677 teachers have conducted various online courses and published 2,823 research papers, books, etc. At the same time, the higher educational institutions are putting out information for students and parents about the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and preventive measures being taken. Since the lockdown began, 1,989 online meetings and 1,463 online training programs have been organised by the universities and colleges in the state. In addition, online conferences, workshops and courses have also been conducted through five different webinars. Known for his highly successful and famed Super 30 programme, which nurtures 30 students from underprivileged sections every year for IIT-JEE entrance test with a phenomenal success rate, Kumar has reached out to HRD Minister <keyword id="60487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal">Ramesh Pokhriyal</keyword> 'Nishank' saying an exclusive education channel from DD would be of immense help to students across the country. "India, like rest of the world, is in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic. The much-needed lockdown to save lives has worked, but it has caused huge disruption in education of our students," Kumar said. "Though many institutions are trying to adopt online means, it is not immediately feasible keeping in view the huge variation in the socio-economic condition of a large section of students, with a good chunk barely able to continue their studies due to low-cost government education system," he said. "Under these circumstances, expecting all the students cutting across different economic strata to avail the facility of online education and equally benefit does not seem practical. It requires a decent system or a smart phone and good internet connectivity, all of which come at a cost. All the institutions are also not prepared for online education, though many of them are trying their best," he added. Kumar further said he has urged the HRD minister to come up with an exclusive 24x7 Doordarshan education channel, like DD Kisan, which is totally devoted to the needs of farmers. "It could be a game changer for the students without any extra cost to them. Every household now a days has a television set and having an exclusive DD education channel, with separate time slots for different classes, will be easily accessible to people of all economic strata across the country. "It can also have motivational talks and counselling sessions for students and teach them about online benefits to groom them for future. But most importantly, it can cater to educational needs of students," he said. Kumar's current batch, is yet to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) as it has been postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown. "I usually start the process for selecting next batch in April but it has been delayed. I am conducting various classes through different mediums and will soon come up with a reasonable solution about how to select the next batch and the timeline," he said. Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16 when the central government announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as one of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. Later, a nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, which has now been extended till May 3. The HRD ministry is reaching out to students through its SWAYAM PRABHA which is a group of 32 DTH channels providing quality educational curriculum-based course contents covering diverse disciplines such as arts, science, commerce, social sciences and humanities subjects, engineering, medicine and agriculture to all teachers, students and citizens across the country interested in lifelong learning. While highlighting Modi government's "Transform, Energize and Clean India" mission for Budget 2017-18, the Finance Minister said,"Quality education will energize our youth." 
 
He proposed the introduction of a system of measuring annual learning. Emphasis, he said, will be given to science education in schools. 
 
To free CBSE and other agencies of administrative responsibilities, he announced a National Testing agency to conduct all examinations in higher education. 
 
Additionally, in a major push to Make In India, Jaitley announced 100 international skill centres across India to help youth who are seeking jobs overseas. 
 
3479 educationally backward blocks will be given focus. A Swayam platform will be launched with atleast 350 online courses and it will be made available through DTH.

The Centre’s commitment to education has always been high on intent but low in practice." 
 
The Budget 2016-17 allocated Rs 1,51,581 crore for social sector including education and health care. The then budget included 62 new Navodaya Vidyalayas to be opened, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to increasing focus on quality of education, regulatory architecture to be provided to ten public and ten private institutions to emerge as world-class Teaching and Research Institutions, set up of higher education financing agency with initial capital base of 1000 Crores and the digital depository for school leaving certificates, college degrees, academic awards &amp; mark sheets to be set-up.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley makes biggest announcements for Education Sector in India

 After demonetisation, every class of citizens had big expectations—realistic or not—from the government to offer some sort of relief. However, <keyword id="6358021" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="budget">Budget</keyword> 2017 has failed to meet most of the raised expectations. 
 
Below are the details of what different sections wanted and what they got in Budget 2017.

Individual taxpayers 
 
What you wanted: Minimum slab for personal income tax was expected to be raised by at least Rs 1 lakh. Slabs were also expected to be restructured by lowering tax on slabs above Rs. 5 lakh. 
 
What you got: Tax rate for individuals in the lowest income tax slab—Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh—to 5 per cent instead of 10 per cent. 
 
Corporates 
 What you wanted: <keyword id="6390789" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaitley">Jaitley</keyword> was expected to cut corporate tax of 30 per cent by at least one percentage point as he has himself promised in his Budget speech in 2015 to reduce it from 30 per cent to 25 per cent in a phased manner over three years. Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) on special economic zones was expected to be reduced to 10 percent in the upcoming Budget to boost investments. MAT rates have more than doubled from 7.5 percent in 2007 to 18.5 percent today. 
 
 What you got: MAT allowed to be carried forward for 15 years from 10 years now. Corporate tax was reduced to 25 per cent—but only for those with an annual turnover of up to Rs 50 crore.

What you got: Nothing. 
 
Youth 
 
What you wanted: Cheaper mobile phones and other electronic gadgets. More affordable education loans. More jobs. 
 
What you got: No immediate benefit but several schemes with long-term impact: schemes to promote skills and employment-linked training in the rural India; making school and college education more outcome-based; effective accreditation for colleges; and SWAYAM platform with at least 350 online courses. 
 
Banks 
 
What you wanted: Tax exemptions customers as well as vendors/merchants conducting digital transactions above a certain limit. More capital infusion. 
 
What you got: Increase in allowable provision for non-performing assets of banks from 7.5 per cent to 8.5 per cent. No additional capital infusion except Rs 10,000 crore under the ongoing Indradhanush scheme. 
 
Housing sector 
 
What you wanted: Higher income tax incentives for first-time home buyers. Infrastructure status to the housing sector. 
 
What you got: Affordable housing given infrastructure status. Tax relief to real estate developers on the unsold stock as a liability to pay capital gains will arise only in the year a project is completed. 
 
Mobile manufacturers 
 
What you wanted: A 10-year tax holiday for local mobile manufacturers. Exemption of duty on import of capital goods used 
 
 in the manufacturing of mobile handsets and components. 
 What you got: The government has proposed to impose a 2% special additional duty on populated printed circuit boards (<keyword id="6355595" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PCB">PCB</keyword>) used for mobile phones, those which are imported into the country. In last year’s budget, the government had levied a 2% SAD on PCBs but later rolled it back after the industry said the ecosystem for local manufacturing of these components was not ready in India. 
 
The poor 
 
 What you wanted: The way The Economic Survey 2016-17 advocated universal basic income, there was an expectation that something similar will be offered in the Budget. Cheaper daily use goods. 
 
What you got: Nothing. 
 
The middle class 
 
What you wanted: Moving up of the lowest income-tax slab. More income tax exemptions on a home loan. Cheaper consumer durables. 
 
What you got: Tax rate for individuals in the lowest income tax slab—Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh—to 5 per cent instead of 10 per cent.
