Kolkata, May 7 () A day after the West Bengalgovernment allowed home delivery of liquor and launched awebsite for the purpose, licensees downed their shutters inmost areas of the state on Thursday in protest, saying it isnot possible for them to take alcoholic drinks to the doorstepof customers.Only 10 per cent of the liquor shops of the state wereopen during the day in the designated green, orange and redzones, except in containment areas, West Bengal Foreign LiquorOFF, ON, CS Shops and Hotel Owners Association said."Sales have plummeted drastically because of this. Inthe first three days, liquor worth Rs 130 crore were sold,while today it was negligible," said Sushmita Mukherjee, theassistant secretary of the association.Mukherjee said the licensees will continue to keeptheir shops closed till the government comes out with a clearpicture as it is not possible for them to deliver liquor athome.For ensuring social distancing and minimizing footfallat retail outlets, the West Bengal State Beverages Corporationon Wednesday launched eRetail for online booking and homedelivery of liquor.Before West Bengal, states such as Chhattisgarh andPunjab allowed home delivery of alcoholic drinks. dcNN NN

New Delhi, May 2 () An assistant sub-inspector of the Delhi Police provided shelter to a woman student at his residence as she could not go back to her native place in Kolkata due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, officials said on Saturday. Sushmita Shah, a student who is preparing for competitive exams, used to live with the ASI's daughter at a PG in Janakpuri here. When the lockdown was announced on March 24, the two women left the PG. Shah wanted to return to Kolkata, but she could not go due to the restrictions imposed across the country in view of the coronavirus outbreak. "Therefore, ASI Arvind Kumar asked her to stay at their residence like his daughter and whenever the lockdown will be relaxed, appropriate arrangement will be made to send her to Kolkata," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Deepak Purohit said. Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava said the department will honour the ASI. "ASI Arvind Kumar, from PS Moti Nagar, brought home a girl student, studying at coaching institute &amp; hailing from Kolkata, who had no place to stay when lockdown announced. Kolkata, May 6 () The West Bengal government onWednesday allowed home delivery of liquor and the StateBeverages Corporation (BEVCO) launched a website throughwhich people over 21 years of age can place orders.The move was aimed at avoiding large gatherings atstandalone 'OFF' shops which reopened on Monday, industrysources said.Customers can place orders through the websitehttps://excise.wb.gov.in/eRetail/Page/eRetail_Login.aspx afterregistering themselves by providing necessary details such asaddress and mobile number, among others.After registration they can order liquor from thedesignated stores that are on the website.Liquor worth over Rs 100 crore was sold in the firsttwo days of reopening of the shops, said Sushmita Mukherjee,the assistant secretary of West Bengal ON, OFF, CS, and HotelOwners Association.She said that while 70 per cent 'OFF' shops remainedopen in the first two days, it came down to 50 per cent onWednesday.Many shops could not remain open for the entirestipulated time -- 12 pm to 7 pm -- as they ran out of stock,she said.The state government has allowed liquor shops toreopen in green, red and orange zones, except for thoselocated in the containment areas.Unlike the first day, crowds outside liquor shops were"under control" on the two subsequent days, Mukherjee said.The state registered liquor sales of around Rs 30crore on Wednesday, she added.Before West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Punjabgovernments allowed home delivery of alcoholic drinks. New Delhi, Jun 23 () Revenue of road building engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies is expected to contract 8-10 per cent this fiscal as the COVID-19 pandemic-driven lockdowns severely curtailed their activity, CRISIL Ratings said on Tuesday. There was a 17 per cent growth between fiscals 2017 and 2020 based on an analysis of over 300 CRISIL-rated EPC companies with rated debt of Rs 51,000 crore, CRISIL Ratings said in a statement. With lower awarding by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the last two fiscals, revenue growth was expected to taper to some extent. However, this fiscal, the slowdown in execution due to lockdowns and the resultant labour shortage is expected to push revenue growth into negative territory, it said. CRISIL Ratings Senior Director Sachin Gupta said, "Typically, in EPC projects, maximum execution and billing is done in March. However, the lockdown that began from March 22 halted work in the crucial last days of last fiscal and has continued to do so this fiscal." "The pick-up in execution and mobilisation after the lifting of the lockdown will be gradual. The upshot would be revenue degrowing 8-10 per cent and margins for EPC companies being hit by about 200 basis points (bps) in fiscal 2021," he added, Given the effects of the lockdown, these companies had no execution, and hence no income in April, but had to meet their fixed costs which are primarily employee and establishment, the statement said. "These account for about 12 per cent of the topline, and with sites operating at about 50 per cent efficiency in most of May, too, it would mean operating margins would decline about 200 bps to around 12 per cent this fiscal," it said. The rating agency said operations are likely to stabilise after monsoon as migrant workers return to project sites. The trajectory of recovery will therefore depend on the time taken to contain the pandemic. It said the slowdown is unlikely to materially impact the credit profiles of these companies, primarily because of their robust balance sheets. Efficient management of working capital and liquidity, though, will be key to tide over the current situation. To their credit, these companies have kept a check on their debt levels while pursuing growth, it said. At a consolidated level, as on March 31, 2020, their capital structures were robust, with gearing at 0.50 time as compared with 0.80 time as on March 31, 2015, the statement said. It attributed two reasons for low leverage of the companies. "Firstly, NHAI awards post 2015 have been predominantly through the EPC and HAM routes, entailing lower equity requirements given NHAI's contribution to project cost. Secondly, divestment of road assets to infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) and global equity funds have helped further improve the capital structure," CRISIL Ratings said. The ensuing low leverage provides resilience in these times of subdued operating performance, it added. Sushmita Majumdar, Director, CRISIL Ratings said, "As much as 90 per cent of the debt of the 300 CRISIL-rated road EPC companies analysed has an investment grade rating – BBB category and above. Their order books remain strong at around 2.2x of their last year's revenues and liquidity is also stable, with bank limit utilisation averaging about 70 per cent." "Even assuming the receivable cycle stretching by an additional 1-1.5 months, they are adequately placed to weather the current situation, thus keeping their credit profiles stable. (Eds: Collating stories, adding inputs) Kolkata, May 5 () The resumption of economic activity on the first day of the lockdown relaxations evoked tepid response across West Bengal on Tuesday, even as chaos continued to prevail outside liquor shops where tipplers threw social distancing norms to the wind. The first train carrying over 1,100 stranded labourers and pilgrims from Rajasthan arrived at the Dankuni railway station in Hooghly district. They were subjected to thorough medical check-up and then sent back to their homes, where they will remain in home quarantine for the next 14 days. A handful of standalone shops, which sell non-essential items, reopened on Tuesday -- after a gap of 42 days -- only in few green zones despite the state government announcing a host of relaxations on Monday to perk up the economy. Such outlets and business establishments remained shut in the red and orange zones, and the containment areas. All shops, barring the ones selling essential items, in the state have been closed since March 25, when the nationwide lockdown was imposed to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic. Serpentine queues were seen outside standalone liquor shops, with the either police or local administration on toes to ensure that boozers maintain social distancing. Chaotic scenes were witnessed outside various alcohol shops as tipplers giving thumbs down to social distancing. In some parts of the state, police had to either use force or close down liquor vends for an hour to control the huge crowd gathered outside the outlets since morning. The reopening of liquor shops, however, boosted the state's dwindling coffer, with a record sale of liquor. An astounding Rs 40-crore liquor sale was recorded on the first day of reopening of the standalone shops on Monday, said Sushmita Mukherjee, assistant secretary of the West Bengal Foreign Liquor-CS On and Off Shops and Hotel Owners Association. "Seventy per cent of the state's liquor shops located in red, orange and green zones reopened yesterday," Mukherjee said. The remaining 30 per cent shops are in containment zones. The sales of Tuesday are expected to be higher than Monday as the shops functioned for the entire seven-hour period from noon to 7 pm, she said. The government's proposal to permit private buses to ply intra-district in green zones with not more than 20 passengers did not find resonance among the operators, who cited the offer as "economically unfeasible". However, autos and rickshaws were seen running in various parts of the state. Bus Minibus Coordination Committee general secretary Rahul Chatterjee had said it was not at all viable to run buses with only 20 passengers since the amount earned from ticket sale would not be enough for meeting fuel expenses. A few shops reopened in green zones across the districts after the state government allowed the standalone shops in all the zones, barring the containment areas, to remain open from 10 am-6 pm. "There is panic among traders as the number of COVID-19 cases is rising with each passing day," Confederation of West Bengal Trade Unions president Sushil Poddar said. "In most parts of the city and the state, shopkeepers preferred not to open their shops, both due to anxiety and low level of business," Poddar said. "In green zones, a few shops have opened, but most of the traders are waiting for public transportation services to resume." The traders' body, which has a membership base of 10 lakh across the state, has issued an advisory to its members about how to stay safe and sanitise their outlets. Four districts, including Kolkata and Howrah, fall in the red zone in Bengal, while 11 have been classified in the orange and eight in the green zones. A train carrying 1,186 passengers arrived at Dankuni station from Ajmer in Rajasthan on Monday morning. Another train from Kerala, which left Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, is scheduled to reach Baharampur in Murshidabad district on Wednesday, sources added. The basic premise of CX+ is that brand and customer experience have become synonymous, in this increasingly connected environment. Thus, the roadmap to delivering a holistic experience is based on 5 key CX success factors: <ol><li>Clarity of brand promise </li><li>Empowered employees </li><li>Empowered customers </li><li>Creating lasting memories </li><li>Reinforcement of brand choice</li></ol>Additionally, the study also identifies each brand’s Experience Gap – which quantifies the difference between the Brand Promise and the actual customer experience delivered. The CX+ index for each brand is derived based on a combination of the CX Performance and the Experience Gap. Commenting on the launch of the CX+ TMT report findings, Sushmita Balasubramaniam, Domain Lead for CX and Commerce - South Asia, Insights Division, Kantar said: “The landscape across the TMT sectors has changed drastically over the last one year. Consumers’ adoption of and dependence on digital, whether for basic everyday living, working, studying or entertainment has presented enormous challenges to companies in these sectors. And, the changes in usage of products and services will also mean that customer priorities on the kind of experience they are seeking will be different from the pre-COVID era.” Our CX+ study reveals that for many companies across these sectors, there is a large gap between the brand promise and customer experience. The companies who emerge as leaders are those who have delivered a superior customer experience that is matched with a strong brand promise thus giving them a distinctive ‘Experience Advantage’ over competition. In the current scenario, there are some things which, with time may go back to the way they were, but many things will not. It is critical for companies to recognize and understand what customer expectations and priorities are going to be in the coming future. And, brands that will succeed are those who will adapt and innovate to cater to these new emotions and behaviors. While the likelihood of their customers recommending them increases by 1.6x </li><li>Delivering on basics is critical for a telecom provider – price benefits, at the same time delivering on basics of connectivity and customer support. </li></ul>Media Streaming platforms <ul><li>The leader brand is seen as being 1.6x times more customer centric than those at the lower end of the index.</li><li>The leader has 1.8x higher engagement levels </li><li>Retailers that lead in the CX+ Index are 1.7x more likely to be recommended than those at the lower end of the index.</li><li>The likelihood of their customers remaining loyal to them increases by 1.8x </li><li>Even for a newer category like streaming platforms, basic CX attributes emerge as top drivers of CX - ease of getting in touch, value for money, customer centricity and download / buffering speed</li></ul>Handheld Devices <ul><li>The leader has 1.8x higher engagement levels than those at the lower end of the index.</li><li>Retailers that lead in the CX+ Index are 1.9x more likely to be recommended </li><li>The likelihood of their customers remaining loyal to them increases by 1.7x </li><li>Interestingly, experience in branded stores at the time of purchase, delivery of brand promise and being customer centric are more important drivers of CX than functional aspects relating to the product themselves.</li></ul>The Kantar CX+ TMT 2020 study analyzed 6,000+ customers drawn from users across the sectors in India and was conducted in early 2020.

The Parliament has turned into a Ram Leela Maidan these days. The opposition parties are getting adamant on their demands. With Congress sticking to a fool-proof investigation on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Allyou-should-know-about-Vyapam-Scam-in-10-points/articleshow/47975285.cms">Vyapam scam</a> in Madhya Pradesh, the House has to be adjourned for almost two hours. Speaker <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Its-not-the-era-of-golden-silence-PM-Modi-Speak-up-before-it-istoo-late/articleshow/48018074.cms">Sumitra Mahajan had warned several</a> of them of action if they did not stop displaying placards. 
 
According to a news report by the PTI, during the Question Hour, over 30 members of the Congress trooped in to the Well, raising slogans and holding placards demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh over the Lalit Modi and Vyapam issues. 
 
Members from SP, RJD and JD(U) too were in the Well with placards demanding that caste census data be made public, while some TRS members, also holding placards in the aisles, sought a separate High Court for Telangana. 
 
Congress Vice President <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Twitterati-celebrates-VishwaPappuDiwas-as-Rahul-Gandhi-turns-45/articleshow/47732727.cms">Rahul Gandh</a>i was thumping the desk as his party members continued sloganeering in the Well. 
 
As repeated pleas from the Speaker to the agitating members to put down their placards went unheeded, she named several of them, including Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev, Deepender Hooda, K C Venugopal and Rajiv Satav, and later warned them of action. 
 
Opposition members, especially from the Congress, have been protesting against the government over Lalit Modi controversy and Vyapam scam since the Monsoon Session began last month, says the PTI report. 
 
When the House met for the Question Hour at noon, Congress members were up on their feet raising demand for the resignation of Swaraj and two other chief ministers. 
 
Some of them also demanded the resignation of HRD Minister Smriti Irani on the row over her educational qualifications. Irani was present in the House at that time. 
 
Soon after Chairman Hamid Ansari announced that he was taking up the Question Hour, Madhusudan Mistry (Cong) got up to raise a point of order questioning how Swaraj could make a statement without giving any notice, and sought its expunction from the records. However, he was not allowed to speak any further. 
 
Jharna Das Baidya (CPI-M) got up to ask a question to the HRD Minister and she got up to table the answer. However, Baidya could not ask a supplementary question in the din.
