New Delhi, May 14 () Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation in India on Thursday announced its support for 'Road to Recovery' initiative, and said it has made an initial commitment of Rs 20 crore under two seed funds.<p>The foundation is working with the Global Alliance for the Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME) and Impact Investors Council to help seed two funds - COVID-19 Sustenance Fund and COVID-19 Liquidity Fund, a statement said.</p><p>"The Dell Foundation is making an initial commitment of Rs 20 crores across both funds to support gig workers and micro entrepreneurs with recoverable grants and loans to help them get back to business," it added.</p><p>Ford Foundation, Kris Gopalakrishnan, the CSR arms of Arvind Group and Claris Lifesciences are the early funders that have already committed their support to the 'Road to Recovery' initiative, it said.</p><p>The initiative has been formed with an aim to stabilise small businesses, micro entrepreneurs and gig workers, whose livelihoods are so important to their families, communities, and the Indian economy, the statement said.</p><p>"Our commitment is to ensure that MSMEs and gig workers can get back to work for their families, communities, and the economy," Geeta Goel, Country Director – India of Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation, said.</p><p>She added that the foundation encourages other funders, investors, CSRs and philanthropies to join these collaborative platforms with the goal of supporting the stabilisation of small and micro businesses.</p><p>Together, these sectors employ over 100 million of the country's workforce.</p><p>COVID-19 Sustenance Fund aims to raise Rs 100 crore and will provide concessional loans or returnable grants for gig workers who have experienced a substantial drop in their income levels.</p><p>Companies such as SuperMoney and Shubhloans, and the CSR platform Samhita will help to disburse grants and loans from the fund, the statement said.</p>COVID-19 Liquidity Fund is a Rs 500-crore fund being set up with Northern Arc (formerly IFMR) with the primary objective of lending to micro and small businesses through non-banking financial corporations (NBFC). <p>Dell married Susan in 1989, five years after he founded his computer business in his university dorm room. He was notoriously shy in those early days and Susan is credited for bringing him out of his shell, <a href="http://www.biography.com/people/michael-dell-9542199#philanthropy">Biography reports. </a></p>
<p>While Susan may not be advisor to Michael about his company, they are big names in their home state of Texas, where they're regarded as huge philanthropists. In 1999, the couple founded the <a href="http://www.msdf.org/about/">Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation</a>, which has given more than $1 billion to charity in the US, South Africa and India.</p>

It's called the <a href="https://www.rebuildtx.org/">Rebuild Texas Fund</a>.</p><p>Dell and his wife Susan are seeding the fund with a $36 million grant from their charitable foundation - half of it up front, and half of it as a match to funds raised over the weekend.</p><p>"Over the Labor Day Weekend, we will contribute another dollar for every two dollars donated to the Rebuild Texas Fund," Dell wrote in a Facebook post Friday morning <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MichaelSDell/posts/10154877025913015">announcing the fund.</a></p><p>While Dell and his company Dell Technologies may be most associated with Austin, Texas, where his company is headquartered, the man himself was born and raised in Houston.</p><p>Dell and his wife are also among the biggest philanthropists in the state, so it's not at all surprising to see them step in with an effort that's more than a big, one-off donation. This fund may be something in place for years; in fact, the fund's page proclaims: "A Texas-sized disaster requires a Texas-sized response."</p><p>Dell says 100% of donations will go to recovery/rebuilding efforts because his foundation and the OneStar Foundation will be picking up the tab for administrative costs. Michael Dell is raising $100 million to rebuild Houston, donating up to $36 million himself

Women-led Kinara Capital raises Rs 200 cr to empower MSMEs in India

She was inspired by the work her father and "for a lack of a better word, his friends" did in making the world more connected through personal computers and the internet.</p><p>"The idea that if we can make the world a smaller place with technology, we can really exponentially expand the boundaries of innovation and what's possible within the world," Dell said. "That movement was incredibly intriguing to me, and I wanted to be part of that."</p><p>In 2013, Dell dropped out of Columbia University to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/alexa-dell-lives-in-los-angeles-not-silicon-valley-2018-3">pursue a career in tech</a>. She now runs a business consulting firm and works as an adviser to dating app company Bumble.</p><p>Business Insider recently caught up with Dell at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/sxsw">SXSW</a> film festival and tech conference in her hometown of Austin, Texas, to hear her life lessons from growing up as a Dell.</p><h2>It's OK to have lots of interests</h2><p>Dell had no shortage of interests growing up, including photography, fashion, tech, and editorial. Her parents, Michael and Susan, encouraged Dell and her three siblings to explore their interests and find what fires them up.</p><p>As a high school student, Dell spent her summers in New York City working at fashion houses.</p><p>In 2013, Dell left college to work at a dating app company that she declines to name. The experience offered a glimpse into life at a startup, where she said a person's good ideas mattered more than their age, status, or gender. Startups wanted to affect change quickly.</p><p>"I could much faster and much more efficiently present and execute on my ideas," Dell said, adding: "I knew the space would be best-fitting for the change I wanted to have."</p><h2>'Hard work is the foundation of success'</h2><p>Dell said there never was a "bring your daughter to work day" at her father's company, but as a child, she often visited the headquarters in Red Rock, Texas, near her childhood home.</p><p>She watched him build a multinational corporation out of a startup that was once based in Michael Dell's freshman year dorm room. While studying at University of Texas at Austin, Michael launched the company formerly known as PC's Limited with a $1,000 family loan.</p><p>"The advice that he's given me is that hard work is really the foundation of success," Dell said.</p><h2>An active lifestyle makes for a happier work-life</h2><p>Alexa Dell's Instagram has a rare few family photos. In a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BF-F3lUoMXj/?taken-by=alexakdell">post</a> captioned "Squad goals," Dell poses atop Grand Canyon National Park with her parents dressed in athletic wear.</p><p>"Both my parents are very active," Dell said.</p><p>She learned from her parents that a healthy lifestyle can lead to increased productivity at work. Dell's home office has a treadmill desk where she prefers to take conference calls.</p><p>"It's great because your blood is circulating and you can think better, you can think more clearly," Dell said. He launched his company in his college dorm. A few decades later, Dell Technologies would become one of the world's biggest technology companies that employed over 150,000 people as of 2019. <p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The names who made the list may seem surprising, especially compared to other rankings of philanthropy. While the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/biggest-philanthropists-2013-2014-2">Chronicle of Philanthropy creates a list of the 50 largest donors any given year</a>, this list in particular uses relative generosity as its main criteria. </span></p>
<h3>12. Michael Dell</h3>
<p>The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation has given away nearly $1 billion since 2000, equal to about 10% of their estimated net worth of $17.5 billion. </p>
<h3>11. Paul Allen</h3>
<p>The Microsoft co-founder gave away $327.6 million in 2011, making him the most generous American of that year. He's given away just over $1.5 billion of the estimated $16 billion he's worth. </p>

<p>The 29-year-old's $992-million gift was the single biggest donation of 2013. He's donated about $2 billion of his wealth, which is now estimated to be $28.5 billion. </p>
<h3>9. Pierre Omidyar</h3>
<p>E-bay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam have given away more than $1 billion, donating $225 million in 2013 alone.  </p>
<h3>8. David Bohnett</h3>
<p>Bohnett made $300 million when he sold GeoCities to Yahoo! in 1998. Since then, his foundation has given away nearly $53.5 million to charitable causes, with a special focus on the LGBT community. </p>
<h3>7. Irwin Jacobs</h3>
<p>The Qualcomm founder and his wife Joan have been very generous over the past few decades, donating around $500 million of their fortune, estimated at $1.8 billion. </p>

<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">When eBay's first president signed the <a href="http://givingpledge.org/">Giving Pledge</a>, he said he hoped to donate nearly all of his $3.8 billion "<span>to the betterment of humanity." </span></span></p>
<h3>5. Tim Gill</h3>
<p>Gill made about $500 million when he sold Quark at the height of the dotcom boom. His foundation has given about $240 million towards LGBT initiatives. </p>
<h3>4. Ed Scott</h3>
<p>Scott, who made his fortune with a software company called BEA, isn't at the Forbes 400 level, but Inside Philanthropy <a href="http://www.insidephilanthropy.com/home/2014/2/10/who-is-silicon-valleys-most-effective-global-giver.html">describes him</a> as "Silicon Valley's most effective global giver." His donations have gone towards fighting global poverty and disease, as well as projects to find better treatments for autism. </p>
<h3>3. Bill Gates</h3>
<p>Gates has donated more money than any other living person, but he wasn't first on Inside Philanthropy's list because his current net worth is $76 billion, nearly twice the endowment of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. </p>
<h3>2. Gordon Moore</h3>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Intel co-founder Gordon Moore and his wife Betty put about half of their wealth into their foundation in 2011. It has since made about $3 billion in grants, focused mostly on scientific research and Bay Area charities.</span></p>

<p> The Cisco co-founders have given more than anyone else, relative to their total wealth. They made $170 million when they walked away from their company in 1990, but they gave about 70% of that money away to charity. </p>
<h2>The Least Generous Tech Leaders<span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></h2>
<p><a href="http://www.insidephilanthropy.com/tech-philanthropy/2014/3/18/meet-the-12-most-generous-tech-leaders-and-6-of-the-least.html">Inside Philanthropy</a> also compiled a list of the least generous people in tech. Though these executives have made valuable contributions to charity in the past, IP argues that these six people have donated the least amount of money compared to their total amassed wealth.</p>
<p>Among the biggest offenders are (not ranked): <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Jeff Bezos, </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Larry Page, </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Steve Ballmer, </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Larry Ellison, </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Jerry Yang, and </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Michael Birch. </span></p>

The Most And Least Generous People In Tech

<br /><ul><li>As many as 92% of Indian youth are unaware of online placement services. </li><li>Over 38% of young professionals want to pursue entrepreneurship.</li><li>88% of youth without a technical diploma or certificate.</li><li>56% of the employed youth in the surveyed sample considered their education and/or vocational training adequate.<br /></li></ul><keyword id="6358907" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="unemployment">Unemployment</keyword> and job crisis is one of the major issues of the Indian economy. As of today, about a million employees are at the brink of job loss in the auto sector, and many more are already unemployed. But it’s not just the lack of avenues to seek jobs that’s causing the crisis. There is also lack of awareness, preparedness, skills, training and, of course, opportunity.<br /><br />As many as 92% of Indian youth are unaware of online placement services, according to a new survey launched at the 6th Annual edition of India Education Entrepreneurship Day (IEED) 2019 hosted by TiE Delhi-NCR in New Delhi. The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) is a non-profit organisation devoted to entrepreneurs in all industries, at all stages, from incubation, throughout the entrepreneurial lifecycle.<br /><br />"TiE's mission has always been to gather major ecosystem stakeholders under one roof with the overarching aim of driving the country towards a progressive future," said Geetika Dayal, Executive Director, TiE Delhi-NCR, who hosted the event.<br /><br />The problem begins right from the point of getting the facts right. According to Sabina Dewan, President &amp; Executive Director, Just Jobs Network, over 12 million people enter the labour force in India every year while the data <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2018/may/22/only-475-million-join-workforce-annually-in-india-not-12-million-as-claimed-1817846.html">shows actual numbers to be less than 5 million</a>. <br /><br />The youth unemployment rate in India is three times that of the overall unemployment, according to the survey. “Our objective is to bring some of the pressing challenges in the Indian education and employment ecosystem to the notice of policy-makers, market participants, and other key stakeholders,” said Rahil Rangwala, Program Director, Michael &amp; Susan Dell Foundation,  a non-profit organisation that works on training poor children in underdeveloped countries for future employment. The organisation was set by the founder of Dell in 1999. <br /><br />Further, about 56% of the respondents asserted that their education and/or vocational training was inadequate to improve their prospects of landing a better, high-value job. “Most people believe that obtaining a three-month-long training or skilling session will compensate for years of education and experience. This is preposterous. Education and skill development need to be considered in a continuum.”said Dewan. <br /><br />It also revealed that 38% of young professionals surveyed want to pursue entrepreneurship. On the other hand, 88% of respondents think they lack a technical diploma or certificate.<br />

In 2017, the individuals and couples on the list donated a median of $97 million, doubling the giving amount from the first list published in 2000. The total donation amount of the 2017 list is the highest amount since the 2008 recession, according to Forbes.</p><p>The 2017 list features 11 individuals or couples from the technology industry accounting for $8.7 billion in donations, or about 60% of the total, suggesting America's philanthropic center is shifting away from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/wall-street" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street</a> and towards <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/silicon-valley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Silicon Valley</a>, according to The Chronicle.</p><p>The top three donors who gave away at least $1 billion each are tech moguls: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/michael-dell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/susan-dell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Susan Dell</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/mark-zuckerberg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mark Zuckerberg</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/priscilla-chan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Priscilla Chan</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/bill-and-melinda-gates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill and Melinda Gates</a>. </p><p>Notably missing from the list is billionaire investor <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facts-about-warren-buffett-2016-12">Warren Buffett</a>, who made a multibillion-dollar donation in Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation in 2017. But because the "annual installment" was part of Buffett's initial 2006 pledge to donate more than $36 billion in Berkshire Hathaway shares to the Gates' organization, the Chronicle did not count it as a 2017 donation.</p><p>Below are the top 25 philanthropists who donated more than $97 million each in 2017. Note that four people passed away after the ranking was first published in February - Porter Byrum, David Rockefeller, Florence Irving, and Henry Hillman.</p>

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Tech firm Salesken on Thursday said it has raised USD 8 million in series A funding led by Sequoia India. <p>"The funding round was led by Sequoia India and also featured a secondary with investors such as Unitus Ventures and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation making partial exit," a statement said. </p><p>The transaction was facilitated by Masterkey Holdings, it added. </p><p>The funds will be used for further development of Salesken's artificial intelligence-based conversation intelligence platform (Salesken.ai) and for expansion across the Asia Pacific and North America markets, a statement said. </p><p>Salesken helps companies with real-time intelligence during their sales conversations to help them win more deals. They can also gauge the sentiments of their customers during the conversation.</p><p>*</p><p>*   *    *Callido Learning raises seed funding from Education Catalyst Fund*</p><p>Edu-tech firm Callido Learning on Thursday said it has raised seed funding from Education Catalyst Fund (ECF). </p><p>While the amount of funding raised was not disclosed, the company said the proceeds will be used to strengthen the technology underpinning its products, fuel growth for its recently launched skills assessment and launch its first retail offering.</p><p> In India, Callido counts schools such as The Shri Ram School, Shiv Nadar Schools, Cathedral &amp; John Connon School, and The Dhirubhai Ambani International School amongst its clients. Internationally, Callido works with schools in 18 countries.</p><p>"We intend to use the funds for product upgrades and to scale our presence in India and overseas. TCS HOBS PPM has streamlined the company's product lifecycle processes, rationalizing its large product portfolio by 80 per cent," a statement said.</p>It empowers Airtel's business teams to manage the product portfolio on their own, and significantly automates new product rollouts across business and IT operations, eliminating inefficiencies and reducing time to market by 90 per cent, it added.
