Hyderabad, Nov 15 (IANS) Veteran Tollywood actor Krishna passed away at a hospital in Hyderabad early Tuesday while undergoing treatment after he suffered cardiac arrest. He was 79. <keyword id="1515523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="superstar-krishna" source="Orion">Superstar Krishna</keyword>, one of the last legends of Telugu film industry, breathed his last at Continental Hospital, where he was admitted late Sunday night after he suffered cardiac arrest. According to doctors he was brought to the hospitals in an unconscious state but was revived after 20 minutes of CPR. He was put on a ventilator and his condition was critical. Krishna's son and popular actor Mahesh Babu and other family members were present at the hospital. Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy or Krishna, as he was popularly known, acted in more than 350 films in a career spanning five decades. He also produced and directed a few films. Born on May 31, 1942 at Burripalem in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Krishna entered the film industry in early 1960s with small roles. He debuted as the lead actor with the 1965 movie aThene Manasulu', which became a hit. 'Gudacchari 116' (1966), a spy film, proved to be a superhit, making Krishna one of the most sought after actors. With this success, he got offers for 20 films. He subsequently acted in at least six James Bond like movies. 'Sakshi' (1967) won critical acclaim at the Tashkent film festival. His 1972 movie 'Pandanti Kapuram' bagged the national film award for best feature film in Telugu for that year. Krishna is known for many landmark movies like 'Alluri Seetharama Raju' (19767), which was the first cinemascope movie in Tollywood, 'Eenadu' (1982), first Eastman color film and 'Simhasanam' (1986), the first 70 mm film. The superstar founded Padmalaya Studio in 1970 and produced some highly successful movies. Krishna married Indira Devi in 1965. They had two sons including Mahesh Babu and three daughters. In 1969, he married actor Vijaya Nirmala and had one son from her. She died in 2019. The superstar was reported to be depressed since the death of his wife Indira Devi in September. Early this year, he lost his elder son Ramesh Babu. Krishna was considered close to former Prime Minister Rahiv Gandhi. He joined the Congress party in 1984 and was a critic of legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao and his Telugu Desam Party. Krishna had made few films criticising NTR and his government. Krishna was elected to Lok sabha from Eluru in 1989 but lost the election in 1991 from the same constituency. After Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, Krishna distanced himself from politics He received several awards including NTR national award in 2003. In 2009, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema.

April saw the death of three veteran Tollywood personalities. Director Sarath passed away at the age of 74 after battling cancer. Sarath, who made his directorial debut in 1986 with Chadastapu Mogudu, made over 20 films in his career. He predominantly worked with actors Nandamuri Balakrishna and Suman. While he delivered superhits such as Vamshanikokkadu, Sulthan, Peddannayya, and Vamshoddharakudu, he directed Suman in films Bava Bavamaridi, Peddinti Alludu, and Chinna Alludu. The same month, veteran actor M. Balayya passed away at the age of 94. He had acted in more than 300 films and was popular for playing the role of the elderly and other important roles in several super hit movies. Veteran director Tatineni Rama Rao's death came as another loss to Tollywood. He passed away in Chennai at the age of 84. He started his career in the film industry as an assistant director and made his directorial debut with Navarathri (1966), starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri in the lead roles. He directed more than 65 films in Telugu and Hindi. He directed blockbusters such as Brahmachari (1966), Manchi Mitrulu (1969), Jeevana Tarangalu (1973), Dorababu (1974), Yamagola (1977), Anuraga Devatha (1982) and Pachchani Kapuram (1985). In September, Tollywood lost legendary actor U. V. Krishnam Raju. He passed away at the age of 83. Known as the 'rebel star' of Telugu cinema, he was the uncle of popular actor Prabhas. In a career spanning 50 years, Krishnam Raju acted in more than 180 films. He was also a recipient of five Filmfare south awards as well as three Nandi awards. His most famous works include Jeevana Tarangalu, Krishnaveni, and Bhakta Kannappa among others. Raju served as the Union Minister of state in various ministries in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government between 2000 and 2002. Even before Tollywood could recover from this shock, another veteran actor Tammareddy Chalapathi Rao passed away on December 25. He died of cardiac arrest at the age of 78. Known for his comic and villainous roles, he acted with three generations of top stars in a career spanning over five decades. He acted in more than 600 films. Chalapathi Rao made his debut in 1966 with 'Ghodachari 116'. He acted in supporting roles with leading actors like N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh. He also produced a few films. And if AI brings about a future in which it enriches business owners and investors, but leaves out workers, any <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-06-08/us-income-inequality-fell-during-the-covid-pandemic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">progress made</a> on the inequality front in recent years <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-pay-changed-most-college-workers-ai-chatgpt-inequality-skills-2023-4">could be reversed</a>.Additionally, while many S&amp;P 500-sized corporations might be well positioned to reap the rewards of the AI boom, smaller companies — and their employees — might not see the same benefits, Carl Benedikt Frey, an Oxford University economist, told Insider. "AI will make superstar companies more productive and profitable, but those profits might be achieved at the expense of other companies," he said. "Think of Amazon, which has expanded enormously, using both AI and robots, while local retailers have paid the price."Even among workers at large companies that effectively incorporate AI, not every worker will see the benefit of these increased profits, Mark Muro, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution who has researched AI's impact on the American workforce, told Insider."Workers' experiences may be more dependent on the nature of their firms' adoption of these technologies," he said. "Are they adopted in a spirit of improving processes and creating more and better output? Or are they used crudely just to get rid of workers? That's a difference between 'good AI' and 'bad AI.'" "Where the profits go will depend on how AI is used," he said. "If AI is used to automate existing tasks, or simply to monitor the workforce, turning employees into robots dancing in tune, the gains will go to owners of capital. If, on the other hand, we use AI for innovation, to create new products or even industries, that will increase the demand for workers — prompting wages to rise," Frey added.<h2>Many fear the rise of AI could see companies cut jobs</h2>For Americans to have any chance at seeing any of the profits the AI productivity boost could drive, they have to actually be working — and not have been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-jobs-at-risk-replacement-artificial-intelligence-ai-labor-trends-2023-02">replaced by these technologies</a>. In March, Sam Altman, the CEO of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-little-bit-scared-chatgpt-will-eliminate-many-jobs-2023-3">OpenAI</a>, the company behind ChatGPT, admitted he's "a little bit scared" of his ChatGPT creation and warned that it could "eliminate" many jobs. In a Microsoft survey of 31,000 people across the globe conducted in February and March, 49% of responding workers said they were <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-jobs-people-are-fine-microsoft-2023-5">worried AI could take their jobs</a>. Earlier this month, Arvind Krishna, the CEO of IBM, told Bloomberg that 30% of the company's non-customer-facing roles — roughly 7,800 jobs — could be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ibm-halts-hiring-for-7800-jobs-that-could-be-replaced-by-ai-report-2023-5">replaced by AI</a> over the next five years, though the company has no immediate plans to let these workers go. The British telecommunications giant BT Group, meanwhile, said it's planning to cut as many as 55,000 jobs by 2030 — and that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-telecom-ceo-ai-replace-jobs-chatgpt-bt-2023-5">some form of artificial intelligence</a> could replace at least 10,000 of those jobs.And as AI technologies such as ChatGPT make it easier for people to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-new-ai-chatbot-conversation-with-questions-answers-examples-2022-12">write</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-ai-technology-end-of-coding-software-developers-jobs-2023-4">code</a>, today's writers and coders might face additional competition from ChatGPT-assisted writers and coders for a limited number of jobs — a dynamic that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-at-risk-replaced-ai-chatgpt-oxford-economist-2023-2">could keep wages down</a>, according to Frey. Frey compared it to the introduction of ride-hailing companies including Uber, which resulted in more drivers, increased competition, and ultimately led to incumbent drivers experiencing "wage cuts by around 10% or so," <a href="https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2017-01-26-uber-effect-drivers-wages-are-cut-there-more-work" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his research</a> found."In my view, it's less about automation," he said. "It's more about democratization and competition, potentially leading to lower wages for people in some of these professions."<h2>AI could make people's jobs easier, and create new ones</h2>But there are also more optimistic predictions out there. Acemoglu said that a plausible outcome would include generative AI not replacing many jobs, and some workers using productivity gains to boost their wages. "We tend to underestimate how complex human tasks are," <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-pay-changed-most-college-workers-ai-chatgpt-inequality-skills-2023-4">he said</a>, adding that it's possible AI could complement the work of journalists, managers, and radiologists, for instance, rather than replace them, which could lead to higher wages for workers.It's also possible that AI adoption will not only replace jobs, but create new ones — in some cases, providing workers the opportunity to jump to a new, higher-paying role. In 2018, 60% of responding workers were employed in jobs that didn't exist in 1940, according to a study that the <a href="https://www.goldmansachs.com/intelligence/pages/generative-ai-could-raise-global-gdp-by-7-percent.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MIT economist David Autor</a> led. And there are ways many employees can set themselves up to thrive during the AI boom. Familiarizing themselves with this tech, and figuring out how they can <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-ai-beginner-prompts-learn-the-tech-boost-career-2023-5">apply it to their jobs</a>, is one way to prepare. "Many workers' experience will depend on their ability to guide or use AI," Muro said. "Are they able to leverage it and give it prompts that yield valuable outputs and increase productivity. The promoter of Coffee Day Enterprises was a sharp businessman taken out by bad times, allegedly by aggressive taxmen.  The Income Tax Department countered saying that the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/tax-department-acted-as-per-law-in-ccd-promoter-siddhartha-case-sources/articleshow/70449827.cms">millionaire businessman admitted to</a> having ₹480 crore of unaccounted wealth. However, he did not reveal the source or pay the tax due on that money until his death, according to the department. Siddhartha’s harassment charge at the tax department came at a time while his father-in-law SM Krishna is with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), that’s ruling at the centre and state. He <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/why-sm-krishna-is-an-important-acquisition-for-bjp-1672353">switched his allegiance to the BJP in 2017</a> after being in the rival Congress camp for 46 years. However, Krishna was conspicuous in his silence during the chaotic political power play in Karnataka over the last few weeks. From Shivakumar to Yediyurappa to Kumaraswamy, people across the political spectrum are grieving Siddhartha’s untimely death. It is also a testament to the fact that in India, businessmen cannot thrive without politically astute connections. The Rajkumar Ransom Both the success of his ventures and his father-in-law’s power made Siddhartha important in Karnataka. When S M Krishna’s government was frantically coming up with a massive ransom necessary to free <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/karnataka/rajkumar-case-verdict-the-perfect-script-that-will-remain-a-secret/article25042510.ece">Rajkumar, the Kannada superstar who was kidnapped by Veerappan in 2000</a>, Siddhartha came to help. According to an account, <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/telgi-link-to-veerappan-ransom/cid/729965https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/telgi-link-to-veerappan-ransom/cid/729965">Siddhartha was one of the five people in the room</a> that included the then CM Krishna, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Abdul Karim Telgi. Telgi is better known for his $2.9 billion fake stamp paper scam, and was acquitted from it, <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/india/abdul-karim-telgi-acquitted-in-stamp-paper-scam-year-after-his-death-1987855.html">after his death, for lack of evidence</a>. The government of Karnataka at the time <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/Govt-not-Rajkumar-family-paid-ransom-Ex-DGP/articleshow/29005840.cms">insisted that it had paid for Rajkumar’s release</a> from <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Veerappan-End-of-three-decades-of-terror/articleshow/890585.cms?referral=PM">Veerappan, a dreaded bandit</a> who modelled himself after Robin Hood. However, it has been alleged many times that <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Veerappan-End-of-three-decades-of-terror/articleshow/890585.cms?referral=PM">both government and private money were paid</a> to secure the release of the actor, while thousands of Rajkumar’s fans took to the streets to protest, violently at times. The role and involvement of Siddhartha may remain unclear. The length of the arm between Chief Minister Krishna and his son-in-law in state matters may remain anybody’s guess. While the details of Siddhartha's political prowess may remain unknown, his achievements in business have been celebrated abundantly. Coffee estate to real estate India has always had coffee houses, in the big cities at least, where for decades thinkers, lovers, and revolutionaries have hung out. Siddhartha’s chain Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) brought the 21st century colours to this culture.

 It may have helped that his father-in-law SM Krishna -- Chief Minister of Karnataka between 1999 to 2004 -- was a man with massive political clout at the time. However, Siddhartha’s privilege does not take away the credit due for his business acumen. There are many who own estates in <a href="https://www.indiacoffee.org/coffee-regions-india.html">Karnataka’s coffee belt</a> but it was Siddhartha who made the right moves at the right time and CCD became the go-to place for young Indians at the turn of the century long before competitors woke up to the opportunity. Privileged and benevolent Siddhartha not only built his own empire of coffee chains, real estate, financial services and logistics, he also supported entrepreneurs who went on to become icons in their own right. Infosys is a shining example, which went on to be the first poster boy of India’s IT revolution. However, the company didn’t have enough takers for its shares at the time of its IPO. Siddhartha, who was a stock broker in Bengaluru at the time, had underwritten those shares and bought them. He made a lot of money out of it but only because he knew their worth when no one else did. Infosys and Mindtree are <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/tech-savvy-siddhartha-got-many-a-tech-winner-going/articleshow/70458429.cms?from=mdrhttps://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/tech-savvy-siddhartha-got-many-a-tech-winner-going/articleshow/70458429.cms?from=mdr">only two of the many examples</a> were Siddhartha backed entrepreneurs. He owed a lot of his wisdom and foresight to the training he received under Mahendra Kampani (1959 to 2017), one of the stars of India’s stock market, who was the sitting member of the governing board at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/specials/mahendra-kampani-dies-in-car-crash-197082701105_1.html">until his death in a car crash in 2017</a>. After his Masters in Economics, Siddhartha got his early training at JM Financial under Kampani in 1983-84. Those two years of training and some capital from his father made him an independent broker in Bengaluru later. It was then that he underwrote the shares of Infosys and profited from the investment. The other ventures and profits followed this initial success. However, one may wonder if he could have built his fortune as a businessman in India without being just as savvy politically. <ul><li><keyword id="84792" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rana-Daggubati">Rana Daggubati</keyword> spoke to Business Insider about his latest venture, one that comes straight from the heart. </li><li>Daggubati has partnered with Future Group and <keyword id="173109" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amar-Chitra-Katha">Amar Chitra Katha</keyword> to bring about <keyword id="7482072" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ack-alive">ACK Alive</keyword> - a learning centre in Hyderabad. </li><li>The centre offers 64 courses from Vedic Mathematics to Robotics. </li></ul>Growing up, Amar Chitra Katha has been a part of every Indian’s life for colourful storytelling of India’s mythology. Nestled in the city of Hyderabad, is a mythological learning centre that takes one back to those memories. And at the helm of it is South Indian superstar Rana Daggubati. Daggubati, who brought the world to his notice with his role as the villain in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus <keyword id="6354370" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="baahubali">Baahubali</keyword>, has partnered with Future Group and Amar Chitra Katha to bring about Amar Chitra Katha Alive - a state-of-the-art learning centre spread over 10,000 square feet for art and design, life skills, performing arts and vedic science and ethics. Daggubati claims it's not just another summer school. The ACK Alive centre offers over 64 courses – a modern take on Indian Gods Krishna and Balarama who studied life skills in just 64 days, he said. The courses range from simple courses like Photography, Creative Writing and Theatre to ones like Vedic Mathematics, Tarot reading and even Kalaripayattu – an Indian martial art that originated in Kerala. “The centre offers an all age group learning. You can come at any age or any time of your convenience and pick up a program that you like,” Rana Daggubati told Business Insider. Daggubati who has been involved in mythological movies like Baahubali, realised that there was no brand holding together all the stories that India’s mythology together like Amar Chitra Katha did. Talking about how the partnership happened, he said, “I was actually working on a different project with the Future Group and was then introduced to the idea of the Amar Chitra Katha learning centre.” While the centre was initially supposed to be built in Mumbai, Daggubati, who is now a director at Amar Chitra Katha, brought it to Hyderabad. Why? Better real estate options, of course! “Mumbai was the first option but we wanted to build something of scale. A centre which can have at least 250 people learning at the same time – in Mumbai it would be too expensive. Meanwhile, Hyderabad has an audience which still has great respect for ACK and still has a large readership too,” said Daggubati. The bringing about of ACK Alive also had a personal connection with Daggubati. The centre is today built on Daggubati’s previous office space. “Converting my previous office into a learning centre was quite emotional as this is where I learnt everything I know,” he said. At ACK Alive, Daggubati himself will be enrolling for a Vedic Mathematics course. The curated courses have seen a great response too, with over 200 families coming over in the first few days of its launch. While there are free classes going on until April 15th, many have already registered.
