In a list of honorary British awards unveiled by the UK Cabinet Office, <keyword id="20134935" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mittal" source="keywords">Mittal</keyword> receives a KBE under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - one of the highest honours conferred by a British monarch. The 66-year-old entrepreneur said in a statement that he was "deeply humbled" by the gracious recognition from King Charles. "The UK and India have historical relations, which are now entering a new era of increased cooperation and collaboration. I remain committed to working towards strengthening the economic and bilateral trade relationships between our two great nations," Mittal said. "I am thankful to the government of the UK, whose support and keen attention to the needs of business has been critical in making the country an attractive investment destination," he said. The KBE, conferred for a pre-eminent contribution in any field of activity, is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. While the Knighthood conferred on UK nationals gives them the title of Sir or Dame, non-UK nationals awarded the honour add KBE (or DBE for women) after their name. Previous Indian recipients of the Honorary KBE include Ratan Tata (2009), Ravi <keyword id="20006262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shankar" source="keywords">Shankar</keyword> (2001) and Jamshed Irani (1997), conferred by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The investiture ceremony will be conducted by the British High Commissioner to India at a later date, when he will formally hand over the royal insignia to Mittal. The honour recognises Bharti Enterprises' work within the India-UK space, including with the UK government in the field of satellites. Sunil Bharti Mittal led the revival of OneWeb (now Eutelsat), leading a consortium with the UK government and other strategic investors to offer satellite broadband services globally, a company statement notes. Mittal has a strong connection with the UK, as a member of the India-UK CEO Forum and has previously been awarded the Honorary Doctor of Civil Law from Newcastle University and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Leeds. He is also a member of the Vice Chancellor's Circle of Advisors at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, Sunil Bharti Mittal has served on the Governing Body of the London Business School (LBS) and as a Member of the India Advisory Group at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In 2019, Bharti's Airtel Africa was listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE100 Index.

Referring to various measures of the government, the Prime Minister said that access to capital, access to resources and access to technology is the government's priority. During the programme, PM Modi awarded 100 '5G Use Case Labs' to educational institutions across the country.

Airtel has called TRAI a mute spectator. Mittal believes DoT has set up a committee to look into the matter and is waiting to hear from the telecom department and the regulator. Mittal said Jio's entry in the market has impacted both revenues and margins of telecom players however Airtel is not as impacted by the entry of other players.

Ambani stated three must-do tasks for government and industry - "One, we must explore and implement innovative ideas for employment and income generation abilities. We must foster confidence in the society that new technologies—robotics, cloud computing, Internet of Things the blockchain, nanotechnology, 3-D printing, etc.— are enablers of employment and wealth. We need to tap these technologies to generate jobs,” he said. "Second, digital technology can be a boon for achieving national priorities such as water security, energy security and resource security. India must embark on the task of connecting everything and everyone with the Internet of Things," he said. The Third, Ambani said, is that the nation’s human capital is India's greatest asset. "Therefore, digitisation of education, skill training and human resource development in a comprehensive manner is vital to the success of Digital India. Telecom industry will have to be part of this mission." Led by the Department of Telecommunication, the India Mobile Congress is organised by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the industry association of mobile and telecom operators and internet companies. The country is hosting the India Mobile Congress for the first time which would provide a platform for mobile, Internet and technology companies. Earlier on Tuesday, Telecom minister <keyword id="6357016" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manoj-sinha">Manoj Sinha</keyword> on said the Department of Telecom will organise the event every year which would emerge as a global event in coming years. "If a supermarket doesn't sell all its goods in one day, it doesn't get a heart attack or high blood pressure. It will sell the next day, next week, next month,” he said.

Whereas, Reliance Jio has now begun with FTTH network dubbed as GigaFiber broadband and is offering services free till March 31, with a 100 Mbps data speed in select residential areas of Chennai, Pune and Mumbai regions. 
 
Deployed by Chinese gear maker Huawei, Airtel has commercially launched V-Fiber-based broadband services in eight cities that include Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore and Bhopal. It has plans to launch it in Delhi-NCR soon. 
 
Rohan Dhamija, head for India and South Asia at Analysys Mason, told ET home broadband makes sense for service operators only in high average revenue per user (ARPU) clusters in large cities. 
 
"FTTH makes a business case for high ARPU geographical clusters such as highrise residential buildings, while in India, overhead cabling is also done to address the existing right-ofway (RoW) challenges to accelerate such deployments,” he told ET. 
 
India's home broadband penetration is significantly low with only about 18 million connections and both the top telcos, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, have stiff competition with local rivals such as Hathway, Spectranet, Tikona and Nextra Teleservices.

<keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> and Vodafone, which are India's top two telecom operators, have decided to take on <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> Infocomm, the upcoming mobile telephony, broadband services, and digital services provider so that they can maintain their top spot while taking care of their customers’ demand. 
 
In their bid to do so, they are preparing to deploy Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology on their networks, so that they are well-prepared to battle Jio, which is expected to start its operations soon. The deployment would be done in association with Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia. 
 <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea cellular</keyword>, which happens to be at the third position, is also in "active talks" with Nokia for a similar deal, sources close to ET confirmed.

<keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>, which is not even launched yet, is already giving sleepless nights to telecom Czars as many players are gearing up to give tough competition to it. 
 
In a bid to counter Jio, Bharti Airtel is mulling to launch Airtel branded smartphones for only Rs 4,000 by October-November. 
 To capture the <keyword id="6493730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="4G-services">4G services</keyword> market, Bharti Airtel is in advance stage to seal vendors. 
 
"Airtel is in advanced stages to finalise vendors to launch dual mode 4G handset in the price range of Rs. 4,000-12,000. Negotiations are around if it should be only Airtel branded handset or co-branded handsets," an industry source privy to the development told news agency PTI. 
 
Airtel is in talks with Taiwan-based Foxconn, which has set up its mobile manufacturing plant in India. 
 RIL Chairman <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> with Reliance Jio Infocomm, the country will get to see 4G mobile phones at low cost. 
 
Meanwhile, sources told PTI that Airtel handsets would come with long term bundled plan but may not be locked only to the Airtel network. 
 
"It will support both FDD and TDD LTE network. It will not be locked handset but will come with bundled plans which the company feels will glue customers to its network. Expected time line for launch of these handsets is around the upcoming festive season of Diwali, say October-November," the source told the news agency. 
 
Reportedly, Airtel had launched India's first 4G services in Kolkata nearly three years ago and 4G trials have started for existing Airtel customers in Delhi, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Madurai, Chennai, Coimbatore and Mumbai.

ICC, world's largest business organisation, has over 6.5 million members in over 130 countries and Mittal has been selected as its 51st chairman, being only the third Indian to hold the position. 
 
Mittal has earlier been a part of the Prime Minister of India's Council on Trade and Industry.

He also stressed on the need to restore trade and investment as a driver of growth and jobs, especially in developing economies that were affected by the slowdown in raw materials and agricultural commodities markets. "This will be a central focus for my tenure as Chairman of the world business organization," he added.
