At a time when you should be celebrating all the knowledge you've gained, you may be grieving what you've lost: the moves you planned, the jobs you earned, and the experiences you were looking forward to. In bleak moments like these, it can be difficult to find hope," Pichai said. He further said: "Be open, be impatient, be hopeful. If you can do that, history will remember the Class of 2020 not for what you lost, but for what you changed. You have the chance to change everything. I am optimistic you will". Pichai sought to assure the students that classes at various points in time have had to overcome challenges - whether it was the class of 1920 that graduated into the end of a deadly pandemic or the class of 1970 that graduated in the midst of the Vietnam War, and even the class of 2001 that graduated a few months before the 9/11 attack in the US. "...and in all cases, they prevailed. The long arc of history tells us we have every reason to be hopeful. So, be hopeful," he said. Pichai pointed to how generations often underestimate the potential of the following one. "It's because they don't realise that the progress of one generation becomes the foundational premise for the next. And, it takes a new set of people to come along and realise all the possibilities," he explained. Pichai drew comparisons between how he had grown up without much access to technology, and children nowadays growing up with computers of all shapes and sizes. "There are probably things about technology that frustrate you and make you impatient. Don't lose that impatience. It will create the next technology revolution and enable you to build things my generation could never dream of. You may be just as frustrated by my generation's approach to climate change, or education. Be impatient. It will create the progress the world needs," he said. He exuded confidence that the youngsters will make the world better in their own ways. "The important thing is to be open-minded so you can find what you love... So take the time to find the thing that excites you more than anything else in the world. Not the thing your parents want you to do. Or the thing that all your friends are doing. Or that society expects of you," he said. He spoke of his early years in the US, and the challenges he faced in those years. "My father spent the equivalent of a year's salary on my plane ticket to the US so I could attend Stanford. It was my first time ever on a plane," Pichai said adding that a bright spot for him during that time was computing. "The only thing that got me from here to there-other than luck-was a deep passion for technology, and an open mind," he noted.

In a recent interaction with employees, Pichai was bombarded with questions from employees related to travel and entertainment budget cuts, productivity, hybrid work and potential layoffs, reports CNBC. "I remember when Google was small and scrappy. We shouldn't always equate fun with money. I think you can walk into a hard-working startup and people may be having fun and it shouldn't always equate to money," he apparently told employees. Pichai responded to a question about why the company has shifted from "rapidly hiring and spending to equally aggressive cost saving." "I'm a bit concerned that you think what we've done is what you would define as aggressive cost saving. I think it's important we don't get disconnected. You need to take a long-term view through conditions like this," Pichai elaborated. Pichai aims to make the company 20 per cent more efficient, hinting at job cuts. Reports have surfaced that Alphabet is giving some workers 60 days to apply for a new role at the company if their jobs are set to be cut. Last month, Google fired more than 50 workers at its incubator Area 120 and gave them extra 30 days to find another job at the company. A Google spokesman was quoted as saying that nearly 95 per cent of employees found new roles within the notice period. Pichai said the company is "still investing in long-term projects like quantum computing. But it's important "to be smart, to be frugal, to be scrappy, to be more efficient." "We're committed to taking care of our employees. I think we're just working through a tough moment macroeconomically and I think it's important we as a company align and work together," said Pichai. Earlier, addressing the gathering at the Code Conference in the US, Pichai said that the more the company tries to understand the macroeconomic conditions, it feels very uncertain about it. "The macroeconomic performance is correlated to ad spend, consumer spend and so on," he told the audience. Google has suspended hiring new employees and reportedly told some existing employees to "shape up or ship out" if expectations are not met. But Google Vice President Sundar Pichai says neither of those things are true.
"WhatsApp was definitely an exciting product," <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/10662526/Google-did-not-bid-for-WhatsApp.html">Pichai said at World Mobile Congress</a> this week in Barcelona. The Telegraph's Matt Warman first reported the quote. "We never made an offer to acquire them. Press reports to the contrary are simply untrue."
It's not clear what Pichai's definition of an "acquisition offer" is. He may mean no formal offer was ever given, or he may mean the talks never happened. Pichai says the two companies had been communicating, but not about an acquisition.

Google CEO blames employee leaks to the press for reduced 'trust and candor' at the company

When <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sundar+pichai&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Google CEO Sundar Pichai</a> visited India in December last year, he said the search engine giant had plans to tap the local engineering talent pool as well as the domestic market. 
 
It seems Pichai is keeping his word as apparently <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=google&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Google</a> just bought 1 lakh square feet office space on lease in Bagmane World Technology Centre in Bengaluru. 
 
"The company is also looking for additional space in Hyderabad, apart from setting up its largest campus," ET quoted a person as saying. 
 During his visit, Pichai had said <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> will ramp up our engineering investments at Bengaluru and Hyderabad facilities and even invest nearly Rs 1,000 crore in building a new campus in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area, biggest campus outside the US. 
 
Google wants to double the number of its head count in India to 13,000 by 2019. 
 
Pichai wants to make the internet more relevant for Indians and set up free Wi-Fi across 100 train stations across the country. 
 
It is noteworthy that Google had leased 430,000 sq ft of office space from Unitech in Signature Towers II project in Gurgaon last year.
