Effect of sun on your eyes The light from the sun is nearly 4000 times that of a light bulb. A short exposure can cause a hazy vision for sometime due to numbing of the retinoctyes. A prolonged exposure can lead to serious issues including burning of the retina, called retinopathy. This may cost you your normal vision. No pain receptors in the eye Since there are no pain receptors in the eye, one wouldn’t realise the impact of the sun rays. Two things might affect you the worst. UV rays and bright light, equally damage your eye, similar to a sun tan. This condition is then called as solar retinitis. A more permanent condition, causing loss of vision is called as solar retinopathy. This happens in the rare cases of prolonged gazing at the sun during a solar eclipse. Eclipse and sun rays One might think it is safe to stare at the sun during an eclipse, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Although the sun is shadowed out during an eclipse, the more concentrated rays still do affect your vision nearly the same! Sun is the brightest star of our solar system and it lives up to its reputation. If you’re really keen on star gazing, try those which are far away from us and keep twinkling away in the night!

Staring at the sun is a bad idea - here’s why

Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the <keyword id="24879" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="sun" source="Orion">Sun</keyword>, is getting ready for its launch soon, <keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword> said on Monday. The satellite, realised at U R Rao Satellite Centre here, has arrived at the ISRO's spaceport in <keyword id="6355143" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="Sriharikota" source="Orion">Sriharikota</keyword> in Andhra Pradesh, the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said in an update on the mission. "Mostly September first week," an ISRO official told PTI when asked about the date of the launch. The spacecraft is expected to be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is about 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has a major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation/eclipses, ISRO noted. "This will provide a greater advantage of observing the solar activities and its effect on space weather in real time," it said. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors. Using the special vantage point L1, four payloads will directly view the Sun and the remaining three payloads would carry out in-situ studies of particles and fields at the L1, thus providing important scientific studies of the propagatory effect of solar dynamics in the interplanetary medium. "The suits of <keyword id="3586950" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="Aditya-L1" source="Orion">Aditya L1</keyword> payloads are expected to provide most crucial information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particle and fields etc.," ISRO said. The major science objectives of the Aditya-L1 mission are: study of solar upper atmospheric (chromosphere and corona) dynamics; study of chromospheric and coronal heating, physics of the partially ionised plasma, initiation of the coronal mass ejections, and flares; observe the in-situ particle and plasma environment providing data for the study of particle dynamics from the Sun; physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism; diagnostics of the coronal and coronal loops plasma: temperature, velocity and density; development, dynamics and origin of coronal mass ejections; identify the sequence of processes that occur at multiple layers (chromosphere, base and extended corona) which eventually leads to solar eruptive events; magnetic field topology and magnetic field measurements in the solar corona; drivers for space weather (origin, composition and dynamics of solar wind). The instruments of Aditya-L1 are tuned to observe the solar atmosphere, mainly the chromosphere and corona, while the in-situ instruments will observe the local environment at L1.

ISRO gearing up for mission to study Sun; satellite arrives at Sriharikota for launch

The <keyword id="1281307" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ministry-for-Home-Affairs">Ministry for Home Affairs</keyword> has denied security clearance to 33 TV channels of the Sun Group, owing to 'economic security' reasons. It may reconsider its verdict only in case of an ownership change, or if the current board of Directors is dissolved. 
 
While the company has applied for extension of its licenses, and they certainly won’t go off air immediately, the Rs. 2,290 Crore Sun TV stock crash has left many unsettled about the general health of entertainment channels in India. 
 
After all, India has a vibrant and robust audience for entertainment channels. Among the 830 plus channels now live, around half are divided into entertainment and pseudo entertainment. So is there reason to worry? 
 
“National channels are doing fairly well. Ad revenue is on the rise, the economy is looking robust, and media spending is coming back. However, the market is accruing towards 4 or 5 top players. The lower rung is getting squeezed”, Jehil Thakkar, Head of Media and Entertainment, KPMG India says. 
 
India is touted as a ripe ground for entertainment. But is there an over-saturation of entertainment channels like many believe? 
 
“Entertainment channels in major media markets like the US, UK or Japan address very specific demographic niches. We aren’t there yet, and this is majorly because of our distribution infrastructure. Once that matures, and digitization is complete, we can expect further growth”, Thakkar says. 
 
So is the market creating hindrances for new TV channels which might not be able to match up to the might of the big sharks? 
 
Most industry experts believe there’s still a lot of headroom for growth in the Indian market given one is able to garner distribution, and have ad money pouring in.

Scientists from Australia's <keyword id="199748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="curtin-university" source="Orion">Curtin University</keyword> have shown how the <keyword id="24879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sun" source="Orion">Sun</keyword> may have played an unexpected role in the formation of the "Blue Planet". The study, published in the <keyword id="12639596" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nature-astronomy-journal" source="Orion">Nature Astronomy journal</keyword> on Monday, made the case that hydrogen ions emitted by the Sun were carried by solar winds onto asteroids that eventually crashed into Earth and were later converted into water. Contributing author and director of Curtin University's Space Science and Technology Centre (SSTC) Professor Phil Bland said analysis of existing theories "didn't match with the water found on Earth", which prompted the international team of researchers to search for an explanation of the unaccounted water. "Our research suggests the solar wind created water on the surface of tiny dust grains and this isotopically lighter water likely provided the remainder of the Earth's water," Bland said. Previously the most widely accepted theory for the origin of Earth's water, posited that water came from bodies of icy cosmic dust, or planetesimals, from outside of our solar system, Xinhua news agency reported. The results came from a detailed analysis of dense, near earth "S-type" asteroids, using samples collected by Japanese space probe Hayabusa over a decade ago. "We found [the samples] contained enough water that, if scaled up, would amount to about 20 litres for every cubic metre of rock," Bland said. The discovery bears major implications in the understanding of life on Earth, as the prevalence of water, covering over 70 per cent of the Earth's surface, and has been key to the evolution of the planet and the life that has inhabited it. Lead author Dr. Luke Daly of the University of Glasgow said the research could also unlock new potential in crewed space travel, for which water supply is a major limiting factor. "How astronauts would get sufficient water, without carrying supplies, is one of the barriers of future space exploration," said Daly. "Astronauts may be able to process fresh supplies of water straight from the dust on a planet's surface, such as the Moon."

According to the company, it has earned a net profit of about Rs 1,520.41 crore last fiscal up from a net profit of about Rs 1,371.83 crore logged in FY20. Sun TV's total revenue was about Rs 3,388.03 crore last year, down from Rs 3,653.35 crore earned in FY20. The advertisement revenues for the year was at Rs 994.03 crore as against Rs 1,336.91crore for the previous year ended March 31, 2020. The subscription revenues for the year were up about 10 per cent at about Rs 1,721.48 crore, as against about Rs 1,562.23 crore for the previous year ended March 31, 2020. Sun TV Network's advertising revenue shrinks, but profit jumps 11% on subscriptions

MUMBAI: <keyword id="44642" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sun-Pharma">Sun Pharma</keyword> and <keyword id="82365" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ranbaxy-Laboratories">Ranbaxy Laboratories</keyword> announced that they have entered into definitive agreements pursuant to which the former will acquire 100% of Ranbaxy in an all-stock transaction. The deal being termed as a "landmark transaction", has been estimated at $4 billion. 
 Under terms of the agreed deal, Ranbaxy shareholders will get 0.8 of a <keyword id="90710" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sun-Pharmaceutical">Sun Pharmaceutical</keyword> share for each Ranbaxy share they own. The exchange ratio represents an implied value of Rs 457 for each Ranbaxy share, a premium of 18% to Ranbaxy’s 30-day volume-weighted average share price and a premium of 24.3% to Ranbaxy's 60-day volume-weighted average share price, in each case, as of the close of business on April 4, 2014, said the statement. 
 
The combination of Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy will be the fifth-largest specialty generics company in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in India. 
 The merged entity would create a new <keyword id="139821" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-leader">market leader</keyword> in the immensely fragmented Rs 75,000 crore domestic pharma market, with the company commanding close 9.3% <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword>, according to AIOCD AWACS.
