<br /> The survey was carried out in 341 districts of India to find out the state of <keyword id="48370" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-toilets" source="Orion">public toilets</keyword> and understand what people do when they are outside and need to use a toilet. The survey received over 39,000 responses. <br /><br /> About 42 per cent urban Indians believe availability of public toilets in their city/district has improved but 52 per cent of respondents indicated that there has been "no improvement" in the state of public toilets. <br /><br />The survey said 37 per cent of the respondents found public toilets were "average/ functional"; 25 per cent described them as "below average/ barely functional",  16 per cent found them "terrible" and 12 per cent found the public toilets "so bad, went but came out without using". <br /><br />"However, even in cities like Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru, going to public toilets, unless managed by organisations like <keyword id="6438890" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sulabh-international" source="Orion">Sulabh International</keyword> or having a system of pay to use, or a highly efficient civic body managing them, is generally a nightmare," the survey results showed. <br /><br />The big issue that a large number of people have reported on LocalCircles in the last three years has been lack of <keyword id="6387522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hygiene" source="Orion">hygiene</keyword>, <keyword id="6364130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cleanliness" source="Orion">cleanliness</keyword> and maintenance of public toilets in their area, district or city. <br /><br />The survey said 68 per cent respondents surveyed said they would rather visit a commercial establishment and use the toilet there instead of visiting a public toilet. <br /><br />When the survey delved into the reason for such a preference, it found that only 10 per cent surveyed rated public toilets in their city/district as well maintained while the majority 53 per cent confirmed that they are in poor or unusable state. <br /><br />About 37 per cent of those surveyed said they are just in functional state but not well maintained. <br /><br />In the survey, 69 per cent respondents were men while 31 per cent respondents were women. About 47 per cent respondents were from tier one, 31 per cent from tier two and 22 per cent respondents were from tier three and four districts.

<ul><li><strong>Hundreds of <keyword id="6374440" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="widows">widows</keyword> that stay in <keyword id="6360073" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vrindavan">Vrindavan</keyword> will not play Holi. <br /><br /></strong></li><li><strong>This will be the second consecutive year when the widows will not play Holi.<br /><br /></strong></li><li><strong>The widows gathered at the Gopinath temple in Vrindavan on Monday to offer condolences and pay respect to the departed soul. </strong><br /></li></ul>Hundreds of widows in Vrindavan will not play Holi this year in view of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> outbreak.<br /><br />The Sulabh Foundation that has been working for the welfare of widows, said that it has been decided that the Holi celebrations will be put off.<br /><br />"Holi celebrations lead to huge crowds and playing with water would make the widows, most of whom are old, susceptible to infection," the spokesman said.<br /><br />This will be the second consecutive year when the widows will not play Holi.<br /><br />Last year, the widows had not played Holi as a mark of respect to BJP leader, late <keyword id="6363133" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manohar-parrikar">Manohar Parrikar</keyword>, who had passed away.<br /><br />They had gathered at the historic Gopinath temple in Vrindavan on Monday to offer condolences and pay respect to the departed soul. The widows also held a prayer meeting at the temple where they lit candles and sang bhajans.<br /><br />Vrindavan's Holi celebrations in recent years have become a memorable event for the thousands of widows who till recent past used to face humiliation.<br /><br />In 2012, the Supreme Court expressed concern that the government and its agencies were not doing enough to mitigate the sufferings of the widows of Vrindavan and asked <keyword id="6438890" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sulabh-International">Sulabh International</keyword>, an NGO, to take care of them.<br /><br />

	“I think like Japan, we can also do this. But more participation is required. We have come a long way from being an importer of food to becoming an exporter of food. Like green revolution, clean revolution will also become a success,” he added.<br />
	 

	Pathak thinks that lack of motivation among the citizens is pulling this Mission behind. The passengers of the Shinkansen trains also show that values are equally important. They often dispose of left-over food, beverages and papers in the bin bags held by the cleaning staff at the door on arrival of the train at the station.<br />
	 

	Awareness at a larger scale and change in the mindset of the people are the keys to its success.<br />
	 

	“Why should we depend on the government to build toilets in our own houses? It should not be a movement of the government alone,” he said.<br />
	 

	P. Velusami, principal of WASHi (WAter, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute), said the values of cleanliness should be inculcated in the minds of the people since childhood. <br />
	 

	He too is optimistic about the success of the movement but is apprehensive about the ‘2019 target’ of the Mission.<br />
	 

	“2019 is an ambitious target. We can try but I think a complete clean Bharat can be achieved by 2025. It is a long way to go. Current investment of the government and the citizens in the mission is clearly not enough,” he said.<br />
	 

	More than 300 high speed Shinkansen trains, each having 100 seats, are in service in a single day. Not a single seat in a single train is missed out to be cleaned in those seven minutes they get to do their job. But five years seem to be too less a time for a Swachh Bharat.<br />
