The company claims that its scooter with 212-kilometre range is better than that of existing scooters, at comparable prices. “Going forward, our biggest priority is to facilitate quick deliveries for customers who have been patiently waiting to get their <keyword id="11904804" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="simple-one" source="Orion">Simple One</keyword> home,” said Suhas Rajkumar, founder and CEO of Simple Energy. This scooter will directly compete with the likes of Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X and the Hero Vida V1 series, among others. Simple Energy was founded in 2019 by Suhas Rajkumar, who is also the CEO of the company. There are also two limited-edition dual-tone versions — namely Brazen X and Light X, which are priced at ₹1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Buyers will have to pay extra ₹13,000 for the 750-watt portable charger. It is powered by a 5kWh lithium-ion battery, split into two packs – one fixed and one removable. This battery powers a motor that is rated to generate peak power of 8.5kW and 72Nm of torque, helping Simple One sprint from 0-40 kmph in 2.77 seconds. It also has a claimed top-speed of 105 kmph. Simple Energy claims that the 5kWh battery can be charged from 0-80% using the 750-watt portable or home charger in 5 hours and 54 minutes. The company refrained from stating exactly how long a full charge will take. The company also said that its Loop fast charging network will be able to charge the Simple One at a speed of 1.5km per minute from 0-80%. However, this fast charging network will be deployed from August. The Simple One also comes with a 7-inch TFT display that is powered by an open source version of the Android operating system. It allows users to pair their phones via Bluetooth, view their scooter statistics using the company’s app, and view distance, speed, range and more. It supports turn-by-turn navigation as well and users will be able to perform software upgrades over-the-air (OTA). Simple One electric scooter launched with 212 km range: Check out price, specifications and other details

<keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword>, EV startup <keyword id="5489470" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="simple-energy" source="Orion">Simple Energy</keyword> is looking to roll out two new <keyword id="440919" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="e-scooters" source="Orion">e-scooters</keyword> in the next quarter which would be attractively priced for the consumers, its founder Suhas <keyword id="6357789" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rajkumar" source="Orion">Rajkumar</keyword> said. With the introduction of affordable e-scooters, the company is expecting to retain not only the existing investors but also onboard institutional players and family offices globally for its proposed USD 100-million fund-raise, Rajkumar told PTI. The company last month launched its maiden premium e-scooter Simple ONE, at Rs 1.45 lakh and commenced deliveries in a phased manner with Bengaluru to begin with from 7th of this month. The introduction of an affordable e-scooter is part of the company's plans to have a portfolio of three scooters, one performance bike and possibly a four-wheeler in the next three years, Simple One founder and CEO said. "Rs one lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh is the affordable price point for a low-end scooter with minimal performance. This is what would matter to the customers. And we are working on those price points and looking to compete with those brands," Rajkumar said, adding that the e-scooters, will be launched in the next quarter. <keyword id="6360326" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="electric" source="Orion">Electric</keyword> two-wheeler sales in the last fiscal surged over two-and-half fold year-on-year to 8,46,976 units (based on data sourced from OEMs), EV manufactures body SMEV had said in April. Of this, the industry saw sales of 1.2 lakh low-speed e-scooters with top speed less than 25 km/hour, while the total sales of high-speed E2W (top speed more than 25km/hr) stood at 7,26,976 during the year. Rajkumar said Simple Energy has shelved plans to develop a vehicle for the last-mile delivery as almost 90 per cent of the market has already been covered by the earlier entrants. Simple Energy's focus will be to develop the B2C model more going forward, he said, adding that the company is working on the charging infra, which is expected to go live in August, Rajkumar said. On funding, he said "we have a great pipeline of existing and new investors in our USD 100-million fund-raise plan for production and expansion." Besides, the company is also tapping in family-offices globally for this round of funding, he said. Earlier in February this year, Simple Energy had raised USD 20 million in a bridge round from a clutch of investors to ramp up production. The company has a manufacturing facility in Shoolagiri in Tamil Nadu with an annual capacity of around 5-lakh units.

The funds will be utilised in a phased manner to ramp up production of the company's maiden e-scooter Simple ONE, which has not yet been delivered to a single customer even after 18 months of its launch. The company has been deferring deliveries of the vehicle since December 2021. "We have received a phenomenal pre-booking response, and to cater to the demand, we are raising funds in a timely manner. The funds raised will be strategically used to aid the production ramp-up and for a quicker delivery commencement," said Suhas Rajkumar, founder and CEO of <keyword id="5489470" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="simple-energy" source="Orion">Simple Energy</keyword>. The company claims that it has received over one-lakh bookings for the e-scooters. This electric scooter is all set to launch next month and promises to offer a range that’s higher than many popular petrol-based (internal combustion engine) scooters in the market. When launched, the Simple One’s unique selling point will be its range – the Bengaluru-based startup promises that its first electric scooter will have a range of up to 240 kilometres in Eco mode, which is more efficient than Sports mode as Eco mode prioritises the range over speed. For instance, the Honda Activa 6G has a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 litres. At an ARAI rated average of 60 km/litre, it offers a range of approximately 318 kilometres. The real-world mileage should be closer to 50 km/l, though. Simple One’s direct electric scooter rival would be the Ather 450X, which has a rated range of 116 kilometres. Further, Rajkumar said he believes India is too big a market to be dominated only by a handful of companies. “I think there’s a lot of room for new players to come. India is such a large market, it can accommodate 10 to 20 Simple Energys [sic] easily,” he added. While this not only increases the cost for the average consumer, it also leads to an invested tax structure wherein companies end up with their funds stuck in the tax system, reducing their liquidity in the process. “Due to the inverted tax structure that currently exists (where EVs are taxed at 5% and battery packs alone at 18%). Several constraints are placed on new OEMs [original equipment manufacturer] as well as the development of new models like Battery-as-a-Service,” Arun Vinayak, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Exponent Energy, told Business Insider. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Bringing down GST to make electric vehicles more lucrative" comment="subhead" text="Bringing down GST to make electric vehicles more lucrative">Bringing down GST to make electric vehicles more lucrative</cmsannotation> Making it more affordable to buy and sell used electric vehicles might be another way to boost awareness and thereby adoption of EVs, according to industry sources. CredR’s co-founder Sasidhar Nigam said “We also expect the government to reduce the GST, which is presently 18% so that there is an increased consumption in used bikes.” CredR is a portal for buying and selling used bikes. Apart from this, Nigam says that a reduction in road taxes and registration costs will also help reduce the burden on consumers. While some states like Telangana currently waive off registration charges on electric vehicles, the policy is not uniform across the country and the waiver is for a limited period or number of vehicles. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Expanding the EV charging network" comment="subhead" text="Expanding the EV charging network">Expanding the EV charging network</cmsannotation> Range anxiety remains one of the biggest challenges in adoption of EVs and industry leaders believe the government needs to step in to help alleviate this problem. One of the ways, the leaders say, is by setting up and expanding the EV charging network across the country. “Since the consumers are concerned about a general lack of charging infrastructure, the government needs to propel the sector by allocating funds to address this area of concern,” said Suhas Rajkumar, co-founder and CEO of Simple Energy. Another option worth exploring is using the existing auto industry infrastructure to double up as EV charging points. “The government should incentivise all existing auto OEMs to use their sales and distribution points, authorised service centres and manufacturing hubs as charging stations for EV vehicles,” CredR’s Nigam added. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Encouraging customer adoption via lucrative finance schemes and subsidies" comment="subhead" text="Encouraging customer adoption via lucrative finance schemes and subsidies">Encouraging customer adoption via lucrative finance schemes and subsidies</cmsannotation> Although electric vehicles can turn out to be cheaper in the long run, they are still expensive purchases even after accounting for FAME subsidies. This acts as another deterrent in their adoption. “Lucrative finance schemes and plans can add to the increased purchase power of consumers,” Nigam said. This can be done in addition to reducing the GST on components, reducing import duties, road taxes and registration charges, and offering low interest finance options. “In the interim, reducing the import duties on Li-ion cells would greatly benefit EV startups to make EVs affordable and spur consumer demand,” Exponent Energy’s Arun Vinayak said. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Subsidies for commercial sector and mandating use of EVs at tourist destinations" comment="subhead" text="Subsidies for commercial sector and mandating use of EVs at tourist destinations">Subsidies for commercial sector and mandating use of EVs at tourist destinations</cmsannotation> Lastly, the government can also push for the use of EVs in the commercial and tourism sectors, thereby reducing the carbon footprint as well as boosting EV adoption. “A strong regulatory push for electric commercial vehicles would also be a welcome move. The Union Budget may provide subsidies for using EVs for commercial and logistics purposes,” said Pushkar Singh, cofounder and CEO of LetsTransport, a last-mile logistics solutions provider. “The government can further leverage the popularity of tourist destinations by converting them into “EV Zones” and provisioning the presence of EVs for tourists travelling and exploring these popular locations,” said Sandeep Mukherjee, co-founder and CEO of B:Live, an e-bike tourism firm.
